Chapter 10 Bridge Battle

There were still people being evacuated as Susan skated to the bridge with Helen on her shoulder and Dash running close behind them. Susan was having a bit of trouble slowing down and she was doing her best not to hit any of the moving cars. Many of the evacuating citizens were stunned by the sight of a giant woman using cars to skate and one distracted driver of a eighteen wheeler ended up first grinding against the wall before losing control and ended swerving to the side. The driver over corrected and the the eighteen wheeler ended up on it's side skidding a few feet before coming to a stop blocking both lanes. Cars that had been behind the truck quickly screeched to a halt to avoid crashing.

Susan and Helen took notice of this and Susan managed to stop her makeshift skates. The giant woman looked at the wreck and at the bay where the Robot Probe was making it's way to the bridge. Susan momentarily considered running from the scene in hopes that the robot would ignore the people on the bridge and continue chasing after her as she lured it away, but she couldn't just ignore the people in the wreck. It wasn't right.

Susan knocked her skates off and raced to the crash site. The truck was too damaged to continue on, so Susan moved it out of the way, so it wasn't blocking both lanes.

"It's ok. I'm going to clear a lane for you, but you need to get off the bridge fast!" Said Susan to the stunned onlookers.

Helen jumped off of Susan's shoulder and helped the driver of the wrecked eighteen wheeler out of his cab, before waving down one of the passing cars and loaded him up into it. Dash also waved the other cars on. The car drove through the clear lane followed by several others. Even was running fairly smoothly, when one motorist driving by Susan screamed loudly in terror and pointed in Susan's direction. It took Susan a quick second to realize she wasn't the one the driver was freaked out about and it was something behind her that terrified the driver. Susan whiled around and was horrified to see that the Robot Probe had reached the bridge and was plowing into with it's giant body and weight.

A section and the railing of the bridge was instantly destroyed by the Robot Probe as it slammed into the bridge. The Robot Probe lunged at Susan with it's clawed hands getting it's lefthand tangled up in the bridge cables forcing it closed, while the other remained free and went after Susan. Susan managed to leap back and avoid the snapping claw as it slammed down on the bridge. The Robot Probe laid it's weight on the bridge causing it to tilt forward. Susan managed to jump up and grab the railing in the center of the bridge to keep herself from falling towards the Robot Probe. Helen grabbed Dash and used her powers to grab the railing as well. For a few seconds Susan managed to maintain her grip, but then she lost it and began sliding towards the Robot Probe.

A section beneath the Robot Probe's eye opened up to reveal a large mouth full of spinning drills. Susan's eyes went wide and she screamed as she got close to the mouth. It seemed like Susan was about to meet a violent and gruesome end, but Insectosaurus arrived on the scene on the other side of the bridge letting out a mighty roar as the big monster used her arms and weight to right and straighten out the bridge. Insectosaurus then fired a glob of silk from her nostril that nailed the Robot Probe in the eye and made it reel back a little.

"Insectosaurus!" Said Susan feeling glad to see the big monster.

"That is so cool!" Said Dash as Helen set him down on the ground.

The other supers and monsters began to arrive on the bridge and head towards Susan and the others.

"Sorry we're late." Said Link.

"What's the situation?" Asked Mr. Incredible.

"That thing is trying to kill me! I have no idea why!" Said Susan pointing at the the Robot Probe.

The Robot Probe blinked it's eye several times removing the silk and then it lunged at Susan and slammed down on the giant woman with it's free claw. The heroes and and monsters looked on horrified thinking that Susan had just been crushed to death, but then there was a groaning sound from the claw and then it began to open. Everyone stared in awe as they saw Susan apparently ok and still alive pushing the claw open and forcing the arm back a little.

"Astonishing!" Said Dr. Cockroach.

"You're doing great Susan!" Cheered B.O.B.

"I'm doing everything!" Yelled Susan in annoyance.

"Not for long! Come let's go help!" Said Link as he charged at the robot and was immediately sent flying back by a deflector shield and crashed to the ground dazed.

"A deflector shield. Typical." Said Dr. Cockroach with a scowl.

Mr. Incredible and Helen took charge of the situation.

"Alright, kids. I want you, Voyd, B.O.B, and Screech to evacuate all the citizens off the bridge." Said Helen.

"The rest of us will back Susan up and fight the robot." Said Mr. Incredible.

Violet and Dash nodded before they ran off with Voyd, B.O.B, and Screech to get the bridge evacuated.

"Help me get into that machine and I can see about shutting it down." Said Dr. Cockroach.

"I'm on it." Said Frozone as he fired a freezing blast at the mouth full of drills and managed to freeze a section of it.

Dr. Cockroach crawled onto Susan's body, then onto the Robot Probe's arm, and jumped into the mouth and slid across the frozen section and into the machine's body. The doctor went deeper into the machine and found a large red metal orb with cables in it. Dr. Cockroach began to pull cables and plug them into different outlets. He plugged one cable in and received a powerful electrical shock that sent him flying back into a wall dazed. Dr. Cockroach's tampering caused the Robot Probe short circuit a little becoming unbalanced and a bright light to shine from it's eye and into the eyes of Insectosaurus putting her in a trance and making her let go of the bridge. The bridge began to shake and become unsteady.

"Insectosaurus!" Cried Susan in alarm.

"We're coming in!" Yelled Mr. Incredible.

"Wait! I have an idea! Mr. Incredible. You and Brick grab that tied up claw and start pulling it forward." Said Susan.

Mr. Incredible and Brick raced over to the tied up claw and began to pull it forward. Susan grabbed some nearby bridge cables with one hand and jumped out of the claw that held her and wrapped the cable around it. The giant woman grabbed the cable forward. The combined strength and effort of Susan, Mr. Incredible, and Brick pulled the Robot Probe forward and it began to lose it's balance and began to topple forward. The supers and the monsters saw this and quickly began to flee the bridge as fast as they could climbing over the Robot Probe's arms in the process. Susan scooped up the still dazed Link and caught Dr. Cockroach as he fell out of the Robot Probe's shoulder.

The Robot Probe smashed through the bridge sending concrete and metal flying as it crashed into the ocean. One of the bridge's arches broke off and twisted and fell towards the down Robot Probe. The Robot Probe's eyes went wide in alarm as the arch came down like a guillotine that chopped the top of it's head right off! The eye went black as the machine went dead. The battle was over.

The supers and monsters stood on land as they looked at the destroyed bridge and robot. People stared at the supers and monsters. Then one person spoke up.

"That giant lady and those super heroes stopped the robot! They saved us!"

The crowd began to cheer and clap as all Susan could do was smile and wave in thanks.

"You know I could get used to this hero thing." Thought Susan as she soaked in the praise.
