The Wondrous World of Pokémon! A world filled with mysterious creatures known as Pokémon, who come in all shapes and sizes. They live everywhere imaginable. On the land, in the seas and skies, and some even come from outer space. These creatures can bond with humans thanks to the special capture devices known as Pokéballs. Those who use Pokémon for battle are known as Pokémon Trainers. After our heroes explored Viridian Forest, and obtained new friends, such as Grookey, Nymble, and Pikachu, they continue on their way to Pewter City, the site of Latrell and Silver's first Gym Battle. Let's see what kind of challenge Latrell and Silver have to face to earn their first badge, and the kind of Trainers will they meet.

Pewter City, Kanto Region

With the group arriving at the Pokémon Center

Blue: We finally made it to Pewter City!

Eevee: Ee!

Fiore: We would've been here about 15 minutes ago, but Silver kept insisting he knew his way.

Silver: Wasn't my fault.

Latrell: It definitely was, don't try to deny it. I have

Silver: Denial's a River in Egypt.

(The other three give Silver a confused look)

Silver: We should get our Pokémon checked out. Especially since the first Gym is here.

Latrell: Yeah, let's go. (Walks up to the counter with the others)

Nurse Joy: Hello, welcome to the Pewter City Pokémon Center.

Blue: Hello, thanks again for all the info you gave us two days ago.

Nurse Joy: Hmm?

Latrell: Back in Viridian City. Don't you remember?

Nurse Joy: Viridian City? You must be talking about my youngest sister.

Fiore: You said what now?

Nurse Joy: Look, here's a picture of our latest family reunion. (Shows the group a picture of all the Nurse Joy's in Kanto, who are all identical, with the only major difference being the color pin they're wearing on their dress)

Silver: Wow, I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..

Fiore: (Deadpans) Did it even fall off the branch?

Latrell: Anyway, can you look after our Pokémon?

Nurse Joy: Gladly, I'll just need to see your Pokémon.

Latrell: (Hands Nurse Joy his 3 Pokéballs)

Silver: (Hands Nurse Joy his 2 Pokéballs)

Blue: (Hands Nurse Joy Pikachu's Pokéball as Eevee jumps onto the counter)

Fiore: (Hands Nurse Joy Piplup's Pokéball)

Nurse Joy: Alright, I should be done in around an hour. Stay near the Pokémon Center, I'll notify you when your Pokémon are all good.

Silver: Alright, thanks a lot. Let's go eat.

Fiore: I can agree to that.

Latrell: Yeah, let's go.

About 1 hour later

Latrell: (Drinks some pineapple soda) So, you have a plan for the Gym, Silver?

Silver: Not sure, especially since I know nothing about the Gym.

Blue: Fair point.

Nurse Joy (Loudspeaker): Will the four Trainers, two boys and two girls, who have an Eevee with them come to the counter? All your Pokémon are ready.

Fiore: Alright, let's go get our Pokémon.

Back at the counter

Nurse Joy: (Hands the Trainers their Pokéballs as Eevee jumps onto Blue's shoulder) All your Pokémon are in perfect shape.

Latrell: Thanks. Now me and Charmander are gonna show that Gym who's boss.

(Just then, a male with skin a bit lighter than Fiore's, with black hair in a basic short cut, wearing a green hoodie and black sweatpants walks up to the counter)

Male: You're actually gonna bring a Charmander into the Pewter Gym?

Latrell: Yeah, what's the problem with that? And just who are you?

Nurse Joy: Oh, Mike. Your Squirtle is all better. (Hands Mike his Pokéball)

Mike: Thanks.

Latrell: Mike, what did you mean about me bringing Charmander into the Gym?

Mike: I'm going to give you some help since you're clearly a moron.

Latrell: What was that?!

Blue: What are you talking about?

Mike: I happen to have some info on the Gyms in the Kanto Region. Each Gym has a Type Specialty. Among the Kanto Starters, Bulbasaur and Squirtle have a Type Advantage against 3 Gyms, while Charmander only has a Type Advantage against 1. That's why I chose Squirtle over Charmander when I chose my Starter Pokémon.

Latrell: So you're from Pallet Town too?

Mike: Yeah. I'm assuming you're the chump who got unlucky enough to be stuck with Charmander.

Latrell: What did you call me?!

Mike: Pewter City's Gym specializes in Rock Types. Water, Grass, and Fighting Pokémon all have a Type Advantage against Rock Pokémon amongst other types. Meanwhile, Fire Types like Charmander are weak to Rock Types. So if you're planning to use Charmander in the Gym, you're asking for a bad time. Unlike me who beat the Gym with just Squirtle.

Latrell: How about we battle and I can show you exactly how strong Charmander is.

Mike: No thanks. I beat the Gym yesterday and I just caught a new Pokémon, so I have no more reason to be here. See you later, whatever your name is.

Latrell: My name's Latrell.

Mike: Alright, Latrell, if you manage to beat the Pewter Gym, I'll give you that battle you want next time we see each other. (Walks out of the Pokémon Center)

Latrell: (Glares at Mike as he walks out)

Fiore: That guy seems like a douche.

Blue: Yeah, let's head for the Gym now.

Silver: What she said.

Latrell: Alright, thanks for helping our Pokémon, Nurse Joy. (Walks off with the others)

Nurse Joy: Of course, come back anytime. (Waves to the group as they walk away)

Outside the Pewter Gym

Latrell: Alright, it's go time.

Silver: Yeah, let's get this.

Blue: So, which of you two are going first?

Latrell: Crud, we never discussed that.

Silver: Wanna do Rock, Paper, Scissors?

Latrell: Sure.

(Latrell and Silver do Rock, Paper, Scissors. Latrell chooses Paper and Silver chooses Scissors)

Silver: Yes! Alright, wish me luck.

Latrell: Good luck, man.

Fiore: You've got this!

Inside of the Pewter Gym

Silver: Hello, I'm here for a gym battle.

Brock: (Stands up from his meditation) Hello, I'm Brock, the Gym Leader here in the Pewter City Gym. So, you're gonna be challenging me today?

Silver: Yep, I'm Silver from Slateport City in the Hoenn Region.

Brock: The Hoenn Region? That's a pretty long way from here in Kanto. Let's see what you've got.

Blue: Excuse me, Brock? Can we stay and watch the battle?

Brock: Of course. The stands are right there. (Points to the bleachers)

Fiore: Thanks! (Walks to the stands with the other two)

Latrell: You've got this, bro.

Brock: Alright, have you been to a Gym before?

Silver: No, this is my first Gym Battle.

Brock: Our battle will be judged by a referee. Hey, could you explain the rules?

Referee: (Walks onto the middle of the court then goes to the edge of said court) Gladly. Alright, I'll explain the rules of the Pewter Gym. It's a 2-on-2 Battle, with the challenger allowed to switch out their Pokémon at any given time, the battle ends when 2 Pokémon on either side are unable to battle. Understand?

Silver: Got it.

Referee: Battle... begin!

Silver: Mankey, let's go! (Throws his Pokéball to reveal Mankey)

Brock: Geodude, come on out! (Throws his Pokéball to reveal Geodude)

Latrell: What is that? (Pulls out his phone's Pokédex on Geodude)

Fiore: Looks like a rock with arms if you ask me.

Rotom Phone: Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. A Rock and Ground Type. At rest, a Geodude looks just like a rock. Carelessly stepping on one will make it swing its fists angrily.

Blue: Let's see how strong it is.

Mankey: Man! Man-Key!

Geodude: Geo-Dude.

Silver: Mankey, use Karate Chop!

Brock: Geodude, use Defense Curl!

Geodude: (Rolls up into a ball and deflects Mankey's Karate Chop, sending it flying)

Mankey: (Slides back to where he was when the battle started)

Silver: Mankey, are you okay?

Mankey: Key! (Nods)

Brock: Now, use Rollout!

Geodude: Dude! (Uses Rollout and hits Mankey head on)

Mankey: (Sent flying in the air and hits the ground)

Silver: Mankey, hang tough!

Geodude: (Bounces off the wall and back towards Mankey, hitting him again)

Mankey: Man! (Flies into a rock which breaks on impact)

Latrell: What kind of move was that?

Referee: That's Rollout. It's a move that gets faster and stronger with each hit the target takes.

Blue: Sounds like it'll be hard to deal with.

Referee: That's not all. Since Geodude used Defense Curl earlier, his Rollout is that much stronger.

Fiore: How is Silver gonna deal with this?

Latrell: I'm not sure. His back's against the wall already.

Mankey: (Flies back to in front of Silver from the impact of another Rollout)

Silver: Mankey! C'mon, you've got this!

Brock: That makes four times now. The fifth one is the strongest, so be prepared.

Geodude: (Rolls fast towards Mankey)

Mankey: (Braces itself)

Silver: That's it! Mankey, use Low Kick to intercept that Rollout, aim straight up!

Mankey: Key-Key! (Nods and does as he's told, sending Geodude flying into the air with Low Kick)

Geodude: (Hits the ceiling and gets lodged inside of it)

Brock: What?!

Fiore: Geodude's stuck!

Silver: Mankey, jump and use Low Kick, back to back!

Mankey: (Jumps to where Geodude is stuck and hits it with two Low Kicks before falling back down due to gravity)

Geodude: (Exclaims in pain then just manages to slip out of its hole and starts falling to the ground)

Silver: Mankey, finish it with Karate Chop!

Mankey: Man! (Jumps towards the falling Geodude and hits him with Karate Chop)

Geodude: Geo-Dude! (Exclaims in pain again as he falls and lands right in front of Brock, now being unconscious)

Silver: Yes!

Referee: Geodude is unable to battle, the winner of the match is Mankey!

Silver: Yes!

Brick: Geodude, return. (Returns Geodude to his Pokéball)

Silver: Nice going, Mankey. Just one more Pokémon to go.

Brock: Don't get cocky, even though you got me down to my last Pokémon. Let's go, Onix! (Throws his Pokéball to reveal Onix)

Onix: (Roars)

Fiore: That Pokémon is a giant!

Latrell: It looks strong. (Uses his phone's Pokédex on Onix)

Rotom Phone: Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. A Rock and Ground Type. As Onix digs through the ground, it absorbs many hard objects. This is what makes its body so solid.

Fiore: It's definitely gonna be a tough opponent.

Referee: And it just so happens to be Brock's strongest Pokémon. Your friend is really gonna have a problem with Onix.

Blue: Really?

Latrell: Silver's got this, just watch.

Silver: Mankey, use Karate Chop!

Mankey: Key! (Jumps at Onix and attempts Karate Chop)

Brock: Onix, knock him back down using Slam!

Onix: (Makes a low growl as he does what Brock said, using Slam with his tail, which knocks Mankey back into a rock, which breaks on impact)

Latrell, Blue, and Fiore: (Gasps)

Silver: Mankey!

Mankey: Key... (Struggles to get up as the dust settles)

Brock: Your Mankey is resilient, but I'm ending this. Onix, use Slam again!

Onix: (Roars as he attempts to use Slam on Mankey with his tail)

Silver: Mankey, fight that Slam with Low Kick!

Mankey: (Meets Onix's Slam with Low Kick at the last second before Slam would've hit Mankey)

Latrell: Yeah! Fight back, Mankey!

Fiore: Yeah! Go Mankey!

Referee: That Pokémon's got some vigor

Silver: Yeah, you've got this!

Mankey and Onix: (Both scream in exertion, trying to outpower the other)

Silver: Mankey!

Brock: Onix!

Onix: (Roars as he manages to beat out Mankey's Low Kick and uses Slam on Mankey)

Mankey: (Falls unconscious as the dust settles from Onix's last Slam)

Referee: Mankey is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Onix!

Silver: Dang it. Mankey, return! (Returns Mankey to his Pokéball)

Brock: Mankey's strong, I'll give you that much. Now, show me your last Pokémon.

Silver: Treecko, you're up next! (Throws his Pokéball to reveal Treecko)

Treecko: Tree!

Blue: Now Silver's down to one Pokémon.

Fiore: Treecko has a Type Advantage against Onix, so he should be just fine.

Referee: Don't think Type will make this easy. Look what happened to Mankey.

Latrell: He has a point. Mankey lost and he had a Type Advantage over Onix.

Silver: Treecko, use Quick Attack!

Treecko: Tree... Co! (Rushes at Onix with Quick Attack)

Brock: Onix, use Rock Throw!

Onix: (Roars as he manifests rocks and throws them at Treecko)

Silver: Dodge!

Treecko: (Dodges the first two rocks but gets hit by the third one then falls and hits the ground)

Brock: Onix, use Slam!

Onix: (Does a low growl as he attempts Slam on Treecko)

Silver: Treecko, use Slam against Slam!

Treecko: Co! (Swings his tail and clashes Onix's Slam with his own, but quickly struggles to match Onix's strength and is forced to back away)

Silver: That Slam is annoying. Treecko, jump high and use Bullet Seed at Onix's face!

Treecko: (Jumps high into the air and uses Bullet Seed, hitting Onix in the face)

Onix: (Roars in pain)

Brock: Onix, use Slam while Treecko's in midair!

Onix: (Makes a low growl as he swings his tail in the air at Treecko)

Silver: Treecko, brace yourself!

Treecko: (Readies his body just in time to not be knocked back by the Slam)

Fiore: Has Silver gone nuts?!

Silver: Treecko, climb onto Onix's head!

Treecko: Tree! (Hooks onto Onix's tail and runs on it to get to Onix's head)

Brock: What?

Silver: Bullet Seed!

Treecko: (Hangs onto Onix's horn and shoots Bullet Seed at Onix's head)

Onix: (Roars in pain)

Referee: Wow, I didn't see that coming.

Brock: Onix, use Dig!

Onix: (Makes a low grab and uses Dig to retreat into the ground with Treecko still on his head)

Latrell: What was that move?

Referee: It's Dig. The user of the move digs underground and then attacks the opponent from underground. From the range Treecko is in, that's gonna do major damage.

Onix: (Roars as he flies out of the ground with Dig, and Treecko falls off of Onix's head towards the ground)

Silver: Treecko!

Brock: Onix! Finish this with a Slam in midair!

Onix: (Growls as he turns around and attempts to use Slam on Treecko again)

Silver: Hit it! Bullet Seed!

Treecko: (Stops Onix's Slam with Bullet Seed, and the two attacks clash)

Referee: This is getting close...

(The attacks continue to clash, until eventually, Treecko's Bullet Seed overpowers Onix's Slam and causes it to hit Onix alongside Treecko's Bullet Seed, and both Pokémon hit the ground)

Silver: You okay, Treecko?

Brock: Onix, no!

(The dust settles and reveals Treecko to be standing, while Onix is laid out, unconscious)

Referee: Onix is unable to battle! Treecko wins the match, making the winner of this battle Silver from Slateport City!

Silver: Yes! We did it, Treecko!

Treecko: Tree! (Runs over to Silver and hops onto his shoulder)

Brock: Onix, return. (Returns Onix to its Pokéball)

Blue: Silver did it!

Fiore: Yippee!

Latrell: Nice going, bro!

Outside of the Pewter Gym with the group, Brock, and the Referee

Brock: Silver, you showed strength, tenacity, and a true understanding with your Pokémon during our battle today. You've earned this, it's the Boulder Badge. (Hands Silver the Boulder Badge)

Silver: Awesome! I got the Boulder Badge.

Latrell: Brock, I'm going to be challenging you tomorrow, and I won't lose.

Brock: I'm looking forward to it. I guess I'm gonna have to bring my A-Game.

Latrell: Likewise.

The Next Day, with the group at the Pokémon Center

Latrell: It's time for my Gym Battle!

Blue: So, do you have a plan?

Latrell: Uhh...

Fiore: You idiot.

Latrell: Well, it's a 2-on-2 Battle, and I have 3 Pokémon.

Silver: So someone's gonna have to sit out.

Blue: I think Grookey should be in the battle no matter what, since he has the Type Advantage.

Latrell: Yeah, definitely. But who's gonna sit out between Charmander and Nymble?

Silver: Well, Nymble knows Double Kick, which is strong against Rock Pokémon.

Fiore: But he's pretty small compared to Charmander. Meaning he's probably more vulnerable to attacks.

Latrell: Hmm... alright, I've made my choice.

At the Pewter Gym, with Latrell, Brock, and the Referee standing in their respective spots on the field and Silver, Blue, and Fiore in the bleachers

Brock: Latrell, I've been looking forward to your challenge since yesterday.

Latrell: I've been itching to battle you too.

Brock: Bring me your best!

Referee: Same battle rules as yesterday. Do both trainers understand the rules? If so, send out your first Pokémon.

Brock: Yep.

Latrell: Got it! Charmander, I choose you! (Throws out his Pokéball to reveal Charmander)

Charmander: Char!

And with that, Silver has conquered Brock and earned his first Gym Badge. Now, Latrell has a new rival, and a new challenge to face. How will he fair in his first Gym Battle? Will he be able to get his first Gym Badge? And will he get the chance to battle Mike? Find out next time. As the Journey Continues!
