A/N: Hello, people!
I don't own Naruto.
I have no beta.
ENJOY!
CHECK ME OUT ON TUMBLR. HELLY-WATERMELONSMELLINFELLON.
Been a while. Sorry. Going from Homelessness for 2 years, in a van or the occasional motel, to a home, but then finding out we could only stay for 5 months and then go back to being homeless again, sucks.
K0-F1 and P4TREON only go so far.

Yuuki considered the collection of people in line for their medical exams, and wondered just how long the day was going to be. Apparently, this was something that Tsunade like to do often. Life did not always follow a meaningful schedule for people to keep track of. Sometimes there were hiccups along the road and situations that would break up the monotony of life.
Gotta keep the people on their toes!
Therefore, the woman had decided that she would randomly put all of the medical trainees through surprise examinations. This way, she could properly gauge if the students were at the level they were supposed to be, and that they did not just mass cram information the night before a known exam.
Yuuki had done that a few times in the Academy but it wasn't like she forgot the information afterward. Not many people were capable of doing the same though.
Every student was sent into a room with a qualified Iryo-Nin(it was Shizune), and then expected to do something. As Yuuki waited in line, she got to hear several different accounts of people coming out of their exams in various levels of disarray or levels of disturbance. Some students were expected to reset bones and others had to put someone's shoulder back into socket.
A girl ended up having to be rushed out of her exam room when she was asked to draw blood from a certain location on the body that she had little to no experience with. She had to be rushed to a bathroom before she vomited all over the floors and made unnecessary work for everybody.
Yuuki had once been on mopping duty and she knew the pain of having to clean up vomit. It wasn't pretty. And the stench didn't go away either no matter how much floor cleaner the sponge/rag was soaked in.
One thing that did seem explicitly clear was the fact that each person was expected to do something that was against whatever it is they wanted to do. Enough for some students to be forced to face their fears or something that disgusted them. Basically, anything that could potentially make them trip up in the middle of a high tension situation.
This meant that Yuuki had to give serious consideration to what it could possibly be that would make her incapable of thinking clearly when a life was on the line. Her greatest fear in life would probably be going back to absolute poverty and she wasn't exactly certain how they could simulate something like that in the middle of a medical disaster.
Like, one of the things that they did when people had signed up for the courses was to make them have to do basic work on people under Henge to look like those they did not like. The whole point as medics was to help everybody, regardless of whether or not you liked them. If you couldn't even do your job on somebody that you didn't like while being supervised, how could you be trusted to do your job without supervision? This was not a new concept in Tsunade's hospital.
However, she would like to point out that this was something that people expected to happen when they came in to apply for the medical courses. This was never something that anybody had been aware of existing prior to Tsunade coming back to the village. This meant that this was a recently added thing to the curriculum in order to keep track of who was truly learning and who was just getting by.
Yuuki could personally name a few people, from big clans, who were just getting by. She wouldn't actively say anything unless outright asked, but their faces did come to mind instantly and she knew that this was going to be a problem for those specific individuals!
The one thing about her master's master was that she did not like wasting time on people who did not take this job seriously. To get into the medical field meant you had to deal with people's lives on a constant basis and if you wanted to be an active Shinobi out on the battlefield, having to treat people in the middle of missions, that meant that you needed to be trained a certain way and you had to deal with certain expectations being placed upon our shoulders.
Tsunade had advocated for decades to get at least one medic on every team that was sent out of the village, and she would continue spending however many years she had left advocating for better and more detailed lessons for the medics and their training. She did not care about feelings when they were working to save lives.
So there Yuuki stood, wondering what exactly her exam was going to feature. She wasn't aware of having any fears or medical concerns that she needed to watch out for. Or maybe they would try some psychological manipulation and use the face of one of her friends to try and make her panic. That wasn't something she would put above them though it didn't seem to be up Tsunade's alley either.
At the very least, Yuuki would like to think that she was a level headed enough of a person to not begin panicking in the middle of a dangerous situation. Regardless of whatever method they chose to try and test her, she doubted that she would physically have a reaction. Yuuki's temperament was what made her rather boring to be around, and why a lot of people came away thinking that she was emotionless. No matter what she tried, her face was still in the same shape and her voice was still without inflection no matter how excited she got.
She didn't know how to fix that. She also wasn't sure if it was something she'd need to fix.
Unfortunately, as Yuuki always ended up at the very end of lines because of her name, she had to sit by and wait for everybody to go in front of her. She did not have a clan name like many others, so all of the clanless students were always at the back of the lines anyway. She however, had no surname either, which put her behind clanless but surnamed individuals. But then because of the placement of the characters of her name, she still ended up all the way at the back behind those people too.
There had been a moment there where she had asked her shishou when came out to get the next person, if it was possible for her to go and do something else, and just wait for her turn to pop up, since she was basically all the way in the back. Unfortunately, it was only fair for everybody to do their due diligence and wait their expected to turn like everybody else did. Yuuki could have a lot of patience depending on the situation, but sometimes just standing around and doing nothing while waiting for people to do their own stuff was frustrating!
The worst part about it all is the fact that they weren't even allowed to pass their time with a book or something, in case it meant they might be trying to cheat. Yuuki always kept a few medical scrolls and books on her person just in case she had a bit of free time and didn't know what to do with herself. And she couldn't even pull them out!
Finally, after three literal hours, Yuuki got to take her turn in the examination room.
Shizune stood there, as she had for everyone else. Beside her was none other than asshole extraordinaire, Komatsuzawa Hanataro. The very person who ended up getting her into the Academy because of his own actions. Probably the one person she wasn't on good terms with.
Yuuki sent him a clear look and said, "A reminder that between the two of us you are the one with counts against you and a history of criminal behavior. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a civil suit. And your specific past with me will be brought up, and I can get Uchiha Sasuke to speak as a witness for a past offense done in public. Think carefully about opening your mouth, Komatsuzawa-san because your history of sexual harassment can also be referenced very quickly, and your wealth will mean nothing with the Hyuga and Uchiha speaking against you."
Hinata would gladly come to her defense if she asked. And there was that Hyuga who had caught the whole event back then. He could be brought in with ease. Yuuki was not above using her connections if those people had already offered their aid.
The widening smirk on Komatsuzawa's face deadened immediately as he realized that what position he was currently in. Throwing around money and names didn't work in Tsunade's hospital.
Shizune, who had been listening to Yuuki speak with an emotionless look, had begun to look visibly agitated upon realizing just how bad Yuuki's history with this specific person was.
Yuuki sent Shizune an expectant look. "I'm ready, shishou."
The woman nodded. "You will be giving Komatsuzawa-san a prostate exam."
"WHAT?!" Komatsuzawa asked, shrinking back on the table. His hands were already shaking and he gripped the edges of his shirt even tighter around his torso. "That wasn't listed!"
Shizune held up a thick stack of papers. "It was in fact listed, among other options, on Page 4, Section 1, Subsection A, on the third column down. You signed the papers giving us permission to perform one of any of the basic procedures on this list. Did you not read it, Komatsuzawa-san?" And there was her devious side coming into play.
"I ain't taking it up the ass! I'm no girl!"
Yuuki's head tilted as she tried to work through his insane thought process. That made no sense at all. "The anus and the vagina are not even remotely similar. They don't even have similar functions in the human body. How would having your prostate checked make you in any way a girl or like a girl? Typically, biological females do not possess prostates, right shishou?"
"Exactly. So, Komatsuzawa-san, you came here to assist our trainees and even signed your permission for this process. If you truly do not wish to participate, you may leave at your nearest convenience," Shizune said with a pleasant smile that spelled out danger in several ways if he didn't get the hell out as soon as possible.
She was barely finished before the fool was up and out of the room in a heartbeat.
Yuuki looked at her shishou and asked, "So, do I still need to give a prostate exam to someone?"
Shizune sighed. "...I'll find someone. Wait here."
...This wasn't as bad as she'd been expecting it to be. Anyone but him would be fine. Get in, get out, and get it done.
"So, how've things been lately?" Shikamaru asked as Yuuki placed a platter of treat down on the table between them. She'd come bearing a massive bag of goodies and looked eager to share them. "We wanted you to join us on a C-Rank but you were busy at the hospital with courses."
By the look of her, Yuuki hadn't be getting a lot of sleep lately. He was worried but wasn't sure if she'd appreciate him mentioning it. Yuuki was very self-sufficient after all. "So, it seems that Tsunade-sama has made it her mission to really put us all through it. You know how we did pop quizzes in school? She pulls those but with basic medical procedures catered to each specific trainee."
"And how'd you do?" Choji asked as he reached for a cookie and a chocolate-covered 'pu-re-tu-zel' that Yuuki had made for them.
The way Yuuki took a deep breath forewarned Shikamaru that he would probably regret Choji asking that question. He simply knew her too well by now after all.
"Well, my first patient ended up running away because he realized he signed the paperwork without reading it and he didn't want to go through with my exam. The second became incredibly awkward because of the age difference between us despite me technically being a legal adult. So they had to get another man to come in and just deal with it. Unfortunately, he might have been homosexual, or maybe stimulating the prostate is just that good, because he ejaculated on the table within seconds and then wouldn't look at me at all."
Choji instantly choked on his cookie and Shikamaru's hand, which had been outstretched to grab a cookie of his own, froze in place as he registered her words. Yep. Regretting that question entirely.
"I'm sorry, what?!" Shikamaru asked, hoping she'd clarify what the hell she meant because of all the things he expected… those words in that order were not it. He knew it would be bad, but that was certainly… unique.
Yuuki, oblivious to the awkward air that had entered the conversation, plowed on like everything was still fine. "See, they were putting each of us through specifically manufactured, stressful medical scenarios to test if we have been learning and to make certain that we are still willing to work in this profession, even if it forces us to have to interact with people we do not like. So my first patient was actually Komatsuzawa. Yeah, that one."
The one who had harassed her into knocking him unconscious which resulted in her joining the Academy so late. The Heir to the Komatsuzawa family, who were considered the richest of the civilian clans in the village.
He still wanted to ruin that shitty family's reputation for that.
"I have no doubt in mind that he somehow pulled some kind of strings with all that infinite wealth his family seems to have, just so he could deal with me during my exam. The problem is that he did not read the paperwork before signing and did not realize that he basically consented to the potential scenario of me shoving my finger up his anus. This offended his delicate sensibilities and he swore that going through such a thing would make him a girl even though girls typically don't have prostates or anal intercourse. He then fled."
It was clear by the look on her face and the intonation of her words that Yuuki did not fully understand what her nemesis' problem was with the exam. It was probably safe to assume that the Heir to the Komatsuzawa clan was probably an intolerant piece of shit and that he had very misogynistic and homophobic views on any kind of anal penetration. Whether sexual in nature or not. Yuuki would not understand the correlation between such things because it would make no logical sense in her mind.
Shikamaru wasn't even sure if he should bother explaining it to her.
The look on Choji's face begged him to just keep his thoughts to himself and not make dinner more awkward. Yoshino was in the kitchen after all. She had definitely heard the discussion up until now and probably had formed her own opinions.
"So, then you had to go on to a different patient, but he didn't feel comfortable with an underage girl doing it and you had to settle on the last man who apparently enjoyed it a little too much?" Shikamaru concluded quickly, hoping to move on.
Their friend nodded, not the least bit concerned by the topic of conversation. "He was mortified, of course. I don't think he expected that to happen and the fact that it happened with me, of all people, definitely seems to have made it especially terrible."
And Shikamaru could understand because that happening at all was already weird enough, but with a teenage girl doing it despite being legally allowed to, hm…
He had to wonder if it was morally correct to petition the hospital to make certain that medics-in-training who were underage, could not participate in such procedures. Like, he understood the fact that these people were getting into this profession because they wanted to, but there was something a bit weird about them allowing somebody so young to be doing such a thing to a grown adult. Hell, it would still be weird, even if Yuuki was doing it to somebody who was the same age as her.
And, of course, the moment his mind got to thinking of Yuuki shoving her hand up the back door of someone who was the same age as her to check their prostate, his mind just had to trail in other directions.
Shikamaru buried his head in his folded arms and refused to look up. Not even when Choji began to snicker at him, did he dare to show how red his face had gotten. He did not need any further reminder or what he was going through, thank you very much!
Of course, his troublesome best friend just had to keep it going though, right? Even after he wanted the topic to settle down moments ago!
"So, beyond your patient's initial reaction to that whole thing, was there anything else peculiar about the exam that should be noted?" Choji asked with faux innocence.
"Oh yeah! So, when removing the hand, apparently, in the patient's experience it will feel like they are defecating. And yes, my glove was dirty because while I didn't have to go too deep, it was still deep enough."
The man thought he'd shit in her hand. And in a way he had. Right after getting a sudden erection and then releasing all over the table.
Fuck sake. Shikamaru hated everything.
"How did your shishou handle that situation?" Shikamaru had to ask, hoping the woman had some common sense in her at the very least.
"Well, she told me that I had passed with a perfect score and then she told me that she could handle everything else. So I patted the guy on the back, took my gloves off, and then proceeded to go and wash my hands very thoroughly. Just to be safe, I washed all the way up my arms too. I didn't see him or shishou after that, but at least I passed! My first prostate exam on a real person too!"
Choji, the traitor that he was, was struggling to keep his amusement in check. Yuuki already had a cookie stuffed into her mouth, and she was watching him with obvious concern.
Shikamaru was mortified by the fact that his mother had to hear that entire conversation. And what was worse was that she would no doubt tell his father about it sometime later on! And they'd probably bring it up some time in the future to get a good laugh at his expense!
What a drag.
Sakura was already several weeks into her medical training at the hospital, by the time she was given a shift. Of all the things she had expected herself to be saddled with cleaning out bedpans and mopping floors was not among them.
To be more real than she would ever be any other time in her life, Sakura would admit to herself that she would much rather mop the floors in the corridors than clean out bed pans. Bed pans were the literal worst because it was always a gamble between three potential things, and all of them were bad!
There is a whole list of things that she was not allowed to touch, and a very small list of things that she was allowed to touch. There were rooms she was not allowed to go into, and rooms that she would have to stay in if somebody she directly had to report to told her to. And every day on the bulletin board in the workroom, was the list of currently active senior staff members for the day, plus their shift times.
Her current shift supervisor had just ordered her to go and collect the bed pans in the second floor's North Corridor. She was to put on a face mask and gloves, knock twice, enter the room with a new bed pan, and replace the used one before leaving. She then had to wheel the cart holding them all back down to the ground floor and see to washing them herself.
No speaking to the patients. No looking at the patients. That was not within her current level of allowance.
When Sakura moved to deposit her dozen or so bed pans into the massive sink for cleaning, she found none other than Yuuki standing by her side. When at work, Yuuki wore the required uniform of medic-in-training, which consisted of a white apron with a stitched-on rhombus in the center. The color of the stitching showed her level of clearance. She wore matching white gloves and a face mask, but also had a stethoscope around her neck, and a clipboard in her apron's pocket.
"Hi," Yuuki said simply. "I noticed your pink head from a distance, and then noticed the pink bed pans, and decided to see how things are going considering..."
"Considering they suck?" Sakura grumbled, trying to ignore the smell.
"Yeah. It'll be like that for a while. If you progress in your lessons faster, they'll give you jobs more in line with your skill level. You've got good Chakra Control so it shouldn't take too long."
Thank goodness! Sakura didn't really know anyone in the courses she had to take, and most of them were people from clans and they acted… not great.
"Is it really hard to improve?"
"Not really. For those who already have the skills required of a medic, it's a lot easier. It'll be hard no matter what, but at least it's not going to be an impossible hurdle to clear."
"And a tip from your senpai… Use the orange soap for the bed pans. It gets the grease and oil to fuck off."
The Chunin Exams were finally upon them and seemed like the village was just full of Shinobi from all the other nations. Of course, that was a drastic hyperbole to be making because the fact of the matter was that Konoha did not have alliances with many of the other nations. So none of those nations they weren't on at least decent terms with, would be allowed to take part in Konoha's Chunin Exams this time around.
Still, you could look in every direction and see a Shinobi wearing a completely different hitai-ate. And because Konoha placed such intense requirements on teamwork, they had to arrive in teams of three. So it was just small groups of Genin loitering about different shops and stalls, trying food or trying to collect information on Konoha while they had the chance to.
Personally, Sasuke did not really care much for all these strangers clogging up the streets. It was bad enough with just the people from his village alone, but now he had to deal with foreign girls also doing the fangirl thing. And the problem was that he had taken to not even wearing his Uchiha symbol on his clothing anymore. So it was completely impossible that these strange girls from other nations were just suddenly asking for his name and if he was single because they thought he was pretty enough to be worth the effort.
When it came down to it, the looks of the Uchiha had been passed on to Sasuke, but when compared to the others in his family, he was not particularly striking. He took after his mother in terms of being almost a complete body double, but it was obvious that she had worn their face better.
Sasuke was not unaware of the fact that the girls in Academy had first latched onto him because he was an Uchiha, and not because they had thought he was more attractive than anyone else. They had later convinced themselves that he was the most attractive option, but it did not start from a place of genuine admiration. Therefore, he should technically be glad that these girls did not actually know who he was and were basing their interests purely off of his face, but at the same time, it made him still feel more like a commodity and less like a person.
And while Sasuke wanted to move up and rank – he needed to move up and rank as soon as possible – he wasn't exactly looking forward to all the politics that would be involved. Sometimes Sasuke had to wonder if he got to where he was through purely his own merit, or if somehow there was somebody on a council somewhere trying to pull the strings because they wanted the last Uchiha to be pushed forward as an example for the rest of the nations. To prove that even with only one left, the might of the Uchiha was still with Konoha.
Sometimes Sasuke really hated his village.
He knew that such thinking would absolutely break Naruto's heart, but Naruto was simply too kind-hearted. Even after everything he had been through growing up and the way the people treated him to this day, Naruto still managed to be such a positive person. Somebody who was willing to give anybody the benefit of the doubt and was willing to give people a second chance. Despite everything this village had done to him since he was literally born. Naruto would probably give his life for the village if it ever came down to it.
Unfortunately, Sasuke knew that he could not say the same. There were very few people in the village that he would ever even think about risking his life for. Not these days.
Naruto could count himself among a small number of people that Sasuke would admit to giving a damn about. Being around Naruto was both terrifying and exhilarating. He was a great companion to have when training, because he just kept getting back up, and he kept trying again, and he would never give up. He was fun to be around because he was so silly and so hard to predict that literally anything could happen that you would never expect it.
At the same time, Sasuke spent so much time worrying about what would happen if he was visibly invested in anything. He did not know if the Council of Elders would try and get involved to separate him from anyone. He did not know if he would have any political standing to protect himself should something like that occur. He did not know that if he was obvious enough with his favoritism, to Naruto, whether He would return at some point and do something about it.
Considering his personal situation and his past traumas, could Sasuke truly form connections with other people and be absolved of any guilt if something were to happen to them because of their association with him? Would it ever be safe for Sasuke to admit that he had friends and loved ones? And if so, how long into the future would it be before he could do that? Would he need to be at a certain power level first? And if that was necessary, would he have to make certain that the loved ones in question would have to be on par with him too?
He wasn't the average foe. He wasn't normal.
Until He was truly dealt with, Sasuke couldn't hope to have a normal life.
Any further rumination was cut off by the very loud and familiar voice of Naruto calling out to him from down the street. The blond looked excited as he rushed on over, babbling something about all the foreign Genin that were filling the village, and how excited he was to finally take on this new exam with Sasuke by his side. How they would 'totally rank up because they were badass -ttebayo!'
It was nice that, despite everything, Naruto had found his place in the world, and he had found reasons to still be happy. On one hand, Sasuke would love to lean on Naruto and share his burdens. But at the same time, Naruto had his own burdens. Was it really fair of Sasuke to emotionally dump on him for a rare chance at inner peace?
"I've been looking for you for the past hour, teme! Did you see all of the people coming into the village? Did you see all the cool clothes and all the cool weapons that they have? I met this girl who's from Yugakure, and she was super nice! She told me about slugs and asked me if I'd ever want one as a pet! She had pink hair too! -ttebayo!"
Okay. So, maybe Sasuke felt a slight bit of jealousy and maybe a little bit of resentment because Naruto came up to him to talk about a girl. He would like to say that it was a completely normal reaction and that there was no reason to be angry because he was not jumping for joy in this particular moment.
Still, he had to do something so that Naruto wouldn't pick up on the fact that he was not pleased about this current situation. And what was the tried-and-true method to get Naruto distracted? Ramen.
"Want to go to Ichiraku's?" Sasuke offered, already turning toward the nearest street that would take them to said noodle bar.
Naruto gasped and fell into step. "Yes! Could I get an extra bowl on the side for Yuuki? She's been working really hard lately, and apparently, she had to give some guy a prostate exam thing as a pop quiz or something, and then he pooped in her hand and ej- ajac- ejacu- I don't know! He did something else on the table! It's been a rough week for her and I think some hot ramen when she gets home would be nice!"
Sasuke was trying very hard to ignore the fact that the word ejaculated almost came out of Naruto's mouth. He did not want to think about Naruto and ejaculation right now.
Nope!
No way!
...And to be honest, he really didn't want to think about Yuuki and ejaculation either.
Tsunade looked over Shizune's summary of Yuuki's progress from graduation until now. She had fulfilled her requirements to entire the Chunin Exams, and she had grown in leaps and bounds under Shizune's tutelage at the hospital.
For her age group, she was ahead of her peers. One could even say that Yuuki was giving her Hyuga contemporaries a run for their money, because she did not have fancy eyes that allowed her to progress faster training. Yuuki had taught herself many things before signing up for the medical courses and she'd used her own memory with her standard vision to get to where she was.
Tsunade was not her shishou though. Despite occasionally giving her Taijutsu tips, it was Shizune who ultimately made the calls about Yuuki's progress. And Tsunade trusted Shizune to understand the girl well enough to make the right decisions for regarding her training and future.
"Yuuki has the bedside manner that one would require of a nurse of several years. She simply takes situations as they come and does not overreact to anything happening. Despite her emotionless disposition, she is actually a very calming person to be around when matters of concern are at hand. Her fellow trainees often look to her for guidance when it seems like things are about to escalate. Seeing that she has remained level-headed puts them at ease much more quickly."
Yes. Just as Shizune had said, despite Yuuki's face, she actually was very good at reading situations and acting accordingly. If there was no physical reaction on Yuuki's face at all, then the severity of the situation was probably not as high as the other students would think it to be.
Yuuki had all the potential in the world to be an incredible leader. And when among people who understood her and knew her well enough, that remained true. The only issue was when she was faced with people who were not familiar with the way she was as a person. Tsunade was all too familiar with how hard it was to take orders from somebody that you did not understand or could not find it in yourself to trust.
The fact at hand was that Yuuki was going to be placed with two career Genin from the Genin Corp in order to take the Chunin Exams. The chances of those Shinobi being far older than her were incredibly high, and the chances of them being willing to take the orders of an emotionless thirteen-year-old were incredibly low.
As Yuuki had only recently graduated and was already vetted to participate in the Chunin Exams, it was going to be very clear that she was considered more capable of taking the exams now. The other two ninja that she would be assigned to probably would not appreciate the fact that she was so much younger than them and already considered so much more capable. And it was entirely possible that those two other ninja had probably built up some kind of rapport over their work as career Genin.
Konoha thrived in teamwork above all else, so it was required for teams to make it two-thirds of the way through the exam together. That did not mean that the other two ninja would be welcoming of Yuuki as a person. Nor did it mean that they would be willing to go above and beyond the bare minimum in order to see their duty concluded.
In a way, it was actually very beneficial that Yuuki already had experience with opposition. In both work and personal life. At the very least this could prepare her for any kind of arguments in the future. And there would be very few situations she was not familiar with.
Still though, perhaps Shizune would be able to choose who Yuuki got paired up with. At least so she could be sure there wouldn't be too much hostility between the Genin.
"I would advise you to head over to the Administration Building and take a good look at all the active career Genin on file. Pick those that you feel show growth from when they entered the Corps. Pay special attention to what their superiors and their clients have to say about them. Never disregard the common folk's opinions on a career Genin as they tend to be the ones interacting with them the most."
"Of course, shishou!"
"And congratulations on teaching such a smart cookie."
The proud smile on Shizune's face reminded Tsunade of the time Shizune came back from her first solo C-Rank looking much the same.
Time really flew, huh?
Yuuki was set to meet her temporary teammates at noon, the day before the Chunin Exams were to begin. It had been a sudden thing, but she'd gone along with it because those were the rules and she couldn't do anything to change them by complaining, so why bother?
Neither of her temporary teammates looked familiar in any way. They were both men, obviously adults, and both did not look particularly glad to see her. Not mean, but definitely not thrilled.
"Hello," she murmured as she slid into the seat across from them at the small stall they'd agreed to meet up at. "My name is Yuuki, and I am going to be your temporary teammate for the exams. I feel that it is best to just cut to the chase and be honest with you. My face always looks like this. My voice always sounds like this. They are not going to change, and there are very few instances where I would be overly emotional. I am a pragmatic and frugal individual. I do not overestimate anything and prefer to be realistic about everything."
She sat back, taking turns looking both men in the eye as she memorized their features. Red hair and blue eyes, and black hair and green eyes. Pretty. Not as pretty as Shikamaru or even Sasuke, but decent enough. Frown lines on both of them. One had a smoking habit that he needed to curb soon as it was turning his teeth yellow.
"To be frank with you. I do not necessarily need the Chunin Exams in order to rank up. I am currently in medical training and am far more advanced beyond my peers. I will get to a point within the year where I will be sent on high-ranking missions regardless of my personal rank, because my skills as a medic will be necessary. I could be field promoted at any time within the next year, so if you are not serious about the exams and do not care about potentially ranking up, please tell me now and we can just end this here. I will go back to the hospital and see if I can take up a half-shift for the rest of the day and life will continue on."
There was a moment where the both of them just stared her down, before finally, the dark-haired one spoke up. "Why did you not end up on a team when you graduated?"
She shrugged. "I was in the class of clan heirs. We all know those teams are basically decided the moment they enter the Academy. I joined the class a bit later as I was in the civilian school because the ninja who scouted the orphanage never noticed that I could use Chakra and had been using it for years. The school bully was bothering me and I knocked him out with a fist full of Chakra. A passing Hyuga who had been keeping track of the confrontation, reported it to the Hokage out of concern and I was tested and placed in the clan class. I made the numbers odd so when we graduated, there were no other teams to be placed with, but being so high in the scoring meant I could not be relegated to the Genin Corps and potentially be lost among the lot when my skills were already so advanced."
Yuuki did not believe in holding back the truth, because it wouldn't make anyone feel better to lie. Lies always came back after all.
"Also, I would hope that you will remember that my graduating class and your graduating class were vastly different, and that my class got to benefit mostly from the completely rehauled curriculum of the Academy. The reason that the newer Shinobi are more advanced upon graduation is because they were taught more things while still in school and had more time to become acquainted with this new knowledge. It's not your fault that people weren't aware of the corruption in the Academy during your time at school."
In fact, Yuuki was of half a mind to report that as a concern. The career Genin in the Genin Corps did not get to benefit from all the lessons that her class had. They should have the same opportunities to learn and should not be left to files and paperwork all day.
It might sound cruel on the surface, but if the Genin who were currently in the Genin Corps, could not keep up with the Green Genin, who had just graduated from the Academy, then perhaps they had to go back to the Academy and retake their graduation exams. If they could not keep up with all of the Academy's current requirements, then they needed to be taught properly and fairly.
She'd bring it up to Shizune later on.
