This chapter is a little special. It's from Brownie's perspective.

It was difficult to write as Brownie, as a dog, can't actually talk and everything he 'says' or does are thoughts and actions. To make everything hopefully clear. His thoughts are written in normal text, while actions he does are written in cursive. I've also tried to keep Brownies thought's in first person POV but I know i've failed sometimes. Sorry for that, I hope everyone can still enjoy!

Hi! I am Brownie Good Boy! Brownie for short! That's what my human calls me and I love it!

Who's my human? My human is right here!

To point out said human, he jumped on the couch, giving kisses to his favourite human.

"Gah hahahhah Brownie! Don't lick my faaccceee"

This is my human! His name is Ace Darling Firefly! But that's long so I call him Ace! Ace my favourite human!

My human is special! Very special! Because… he has spots all over his face! No matter how much I try to lick over them, they stay! Magic spots!

Other human also tried to clean them. Licking and rubbing over them, but they never leave. Stubborn spots! But Brownie will keep trying to clean Ace! Because I love Ace!

Other human?

Oooooh yes! There's another human in the house too. Looks like my squeaker! But human doesn't squeak, boring, I tried multiple times. Gentle bite when human wasn't paying attention, but never a squeak.

Name?

Other human is called Marco Mar Birdy Yoi! Humans have long names! Many names! So I only use the first one. They always react to it.

"Brownie-"

Woof! That's Me! Brownie!

"Haha such a happy boy! Wanne go for a-"

He couldn't help himself and jumped down, jumping in circles around himself.

Woooooooff! Yes!

"I haven't said it yet!"

Brownie knows!

"Walk"

WALLLLKKKK!

"Haha let's get your harness on."

With a bark he followed his human, tail wagging with excitement.

Where will we go?!

Oh-Work! Ace put on my special vest! It's Brownie's vest, show everyone that I'm working!

Proud in his vest he stood waiting for when his human was ready.

Protect human! Protect Ace! Brownie will guide!

"Let's go to the park, Brownie. Park."

Park! Ducks!

He kept his tail from wagging too excitedly, he had a job to do and looked to Ace.

Ready? Ready? Yes? Let's goooooo!

With steady steps he started the way to the park, not going to fast as he knew Ace had to follow him.

I am... how did Marco say it... I am Ace's eyes! Brownie looks around for Ace and Brownie!

Stick! Stick standing in the way! Be careful Ace! Must avoid!

Slowly he changed their path, making sure Ace didn't hit the stick in the way. Once passing it they went back to their usual path.

Oof, close one! Stick always there! When I was free with Marco, I've barked at it, tried to get it to leave, but it always stayed! Mean stick trying to make Ace hit it!

As they walked, he made sure to look back plenty of times, keeping an eye on Ace and walking close to his legs, barely touching.

Have to make sure I don't lose Ace, Ace gets lost easily, but not with me by his side!

Snout in the air he stopped to sniff for a moment.

Smell... nice smell. Ducks. Smell ducks-

"Brownie?"

! Oh no! He lost concentration! Bad Brownie! Park! Have to get to the park! Park is close!

He didn't let the chuckle distract him as he started walking again for the park, eyes on the goal ahead!

"Haha, silly doggy. You can run loose in the park, don't worry, boy. We're staying long enough for playtime."

A few minutes later

Hmmmmmmmm Right… Need to go right... Right side is hmmmmmmmm what was it! Ah! White paw side! Yes! Right paw side is left!

Next turn is left so if right side is white paw side then... Left is other white paw side! Yes! Brownie so smart! Brownie Good boy!

Park is close now!

Oh no!

He screeched to a halt as a block suddenly crossed their path and didn't move anymore.

There are no blocks here!? Never blocks here! Why is there a block here?! Where did it come from?

"Brownie, what's wrong?"

Wruf! Bad block in the way! Moving blocks… cars yes! Car in the way! Ace! Danger, can't go!

"Hmm forward."

Looking up to his human he shook his head, ears flopping as he did.

No! Danger! Bad! Bad block... Car hurt! Now not move, but maybe move and then hurt Ace! No want hurt Ace!

"Other way. Find another way"

Yes! Brownie find another way, safe way for Ace!

Hmmmmmmmm white paw side or other white paw side… white paw side has unmoving blocks, like his home... house, big houses, can't go that side. Other white paw has the hard floor, opening besides car! White paw side!

Proud he found another way he tugged Ace gently towards the new direction, almost hugging the car as he threated over the small leftover part of the walkway around the parked car until they could walk again close to the building. Safe distance from the moving car in the road.

"Goodjob, Brownie, good boy."

GOOD BOY BROWNIE YES! OH TREAT!

As he chewed happily on the treat he started walking again, pulling Ace towards the entrance of the park just a few steps away. Gently nudging the leg when they made it inside.

Made it to the ducks! There they are! You see them, Ace? Don't worry! Brownie looking for you too! Many ducks! Big duck, small duck, delicious duck, tasty duck!

"Thank you, Brownie, Love you."

Setting: The day Marco went to pick up Ace from his work and got stuck before a puddle, see Chapter 11 – Marco and Brownie.

"Brownie, geez, you're making a whole whirlwind with how fast you're wagging. Just let me prep your harness and click you in and we can go-yoi."

MARCO! FASTER! BROWNIE IS READY-

Oh? Oh? No harness? NO HAR- BROWNIE IS FREE?!

"Let's go get, Ace."

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WALKIES!

His tail wagged more at the laugh escaping his blond human when they got outside. Only slightly tugging to get Marco to hurry up.

No harness meant not working. So... sniff everything I want! And... peee! Gotte mark my area! Every stick sticking out of the ground got their own marking, this is a fight for territory! And oh- Evil stick in the middle of the way! The one trying to hurt Ace! NO PEE FOR YOU! BAD STICK! Woof!

"You really hate this stop-sign-yoi. Always trying to start a fight haha."

Because evil! Try to hurt Ace!

Huh-?

He stopped walking when he didn't feel tugs on his neck anymore and looked back, was Marco lost? Marco usually doesn't get lost.

Is that-? Why do you have Brownie's leash in hand? My leash! Put back on! Silly Marco, why do you take that off?

"It broke?"

Brownie wait! C'mon! Need to pick up Ace! Hurry! Ace going to get lost!

Waiting he patiently sat down, humans sometimes were so slow. Just in case Marco had forgotten that he was there he nudged his leg and got pats in return, making his tail wag out of happiness.

Pets for Brownie! Love pats!

"Good boy-yoi. What a good thing you're trained so well. This was your chance to just run."

GOOD BOY! BROWNIE GOOD BOY! Huh? Work? Brownie work now?

A little confused he had looked back, making sure he felt right that Marco had put his harness on. Looking at the blond when he crouched before him and crunched his face.

"You're free Brownie, no working, free."

Silly Marco! Not free! Brownie now work! Work like good boy! Brownie shall now show the way!

Even if his human was silly, he didn't mind, he would help him and kissed Marco's face to tell him this.

Good human. Good silly Marco.

"Haha, Well, let's try this-yoi."

Just like he did with Ace, he guided Marco slowly to their destination. Making sure to avoid any obstacles the blond could run in against or slip over.

Marco wasn't as good at listening to me then Ace. At one point Marco just tried to cross the dangerous path that had moving blocks on them! Without asking me! Without asking Brownie! But being a good boy, I stopped him! Saving him from danger!

After they safely got across the road, lots of head pats were given to him. And while it was really fun and his tail was wagging a lot, he kept up the pace to lead Marco to his destination.

Almost there! Almost with Ace! Favourite human!

Knowing the way by heart, they rounded corners until they were on the last straight path towards the house Ace was in. Everything was going well un till they reached-

Danger!

Just like at the road, he stopped before the danger in the way, even taking a step back to tug the blond human back as he was about to step into the danger.

No! Stop! Listen to Brownie! Danger! Marco going to fall! Het hurt!

"C'mon Brownie-yoi. Ace's work is right there."

Brownie knows! Smell Ace! Close! But no go! Danger!

As Marco tried tugging him forward, he sat down, showing clearly he wasn't going to move.

"Brownie, please. Why aren't you going?"

Ruff! Danger! Look! Hard floor is gone!

With a paw forward he carefully touched the thing before him, looked like what was in oen of his bowls at home. As he touched it ripples appeared, but no floor.

No floor means no place to put paws! Danger! Marco will slip!

"Go Brownie... forward-yoi? Forward?"

Unimpressed he looked up.

Marco... No is no. Listen to Brownie. Brownie smart. Brownie working and protect. Listen. To. Brownie!

As the blond started to throw more commands, trying to get him to move, he just tuned him out. Repeating anything was not going to work. He wasn't going to put his human in danger in any way.

5 minutes later

"Hi Mar! You here? I'm just coming down."

Ace?! Ace!? Where-?!

Hearing his favourites human voice he looked around, trying to find him but only found Marco speaking into some weird other kind of block. Block that had lights. They often used it and always voices came through, but he never saw the one the voice belonged too, weird thing.

"-e's sitting. Yea, he didn't move when I said forward. I'm sure that I'm not tugging on the harness-yoi. Let me try again. Forward Brownie..."

Still with that? I thought you learned Marco. Me is not moving.

"Nope, not working. Maybe he's feeling sick? Does he need to pee if he does this? Do you need to pee Brownie? You can pee Brownie. Go pee. Or poo. Whatever business."

With a snort he looked forward again, going back into ignore modus.

Already peed and pooped before work. Brownie knows no pee and poo during workhours.

Another few minutes later

"Mar."

ACE! THAT WAS ACE! HIS FAVORITE HUMAN!

He wanted to get up and greet him, but he couldn't, he stayed seated as he had to protect Marco. Marco was holding him now. So instead he wagged his tail over the ground, looking happily towards his dotted human walking over.

The two talked together, often talked together, he didn't understand it all, it was just gibberish. But he loved them anyway.

"Brownie's doing his job wonderfully! Aren't you Brownie!"

Ears perked up at those words, those he understood.

Yes! Woof! Brownie is me! Aaaah come closer Ace! Wanne be with you!

"He's protecting you from tripping. He's not walking over the puddle before you because Brownie probably can't see the pavers underneath and thus won't let you walk across it as it can be a danger, you can slip. And he's not going around like he usually does because the trash is blocking the way. And as trash is uneven, you can trip over it. With the whole pavement blocked, your only option is to go over the road, but he won't go into that without a command because he knows the cars are dangerous."

Aaand back to ignore! So much talking. Oh squirrel! Run squirrel run! Go up the stick with green leaves. Home of squirrel. Brownie smart. If not working I would catch. Catch squirrel for Ace. Ace loves squirrels. And birds. And Marco. But I already caught Marco for Ace. Gotte catch more for Ace. Everything his human wants, Brownie will get fo-

"Brownie, find a way, find another way, forward."

! Ace has giving commands! Commands he can follow! Yes! Brownie shall find another way! Let's seeeee! Let's see. Danger before, danger to the side, houses to his other white paw side, only his white paw side is free. But there's cars, moving blocks, dangerous. Have to be careful!

With a few tugs he made Marco followed and walked towards the edge of the pavement, waiting until the moving blocks were far far away. Looking up he made sure the blond was ready to go, they both had to be ready!

"Brownie, find a way, find another way, forward."

Yes! We wait... wait... NOW!

Fast as lightning... a normal pace Marco could follow, he stepped into the road. Staying close to the edge of the pavement as he walked a few steps to avoid the dangerous puddle and trash. Once at the other side he stepped onto the pavement, waiting for Marco to make the step up.

C'mon. Step up. Up. Need to make sure you don't trip.

"Thanks, Brownie-yoi"

Yes! They passed the danger! Good job Marco!

"You made it!"

! HE MADE IT TO ACE! And oh! HAND! Ace is giving his hand! PATSSSS!

"Such a good doggy! Goodjob Brownie! Goodjob!"

He nuzzled into the hand that was held out to him, tail wagging as he received kisses and pats from Ace. Even a treat was held out to him.

Treat! Brownie gets treats Because I am a good boy!

"You guided papa so well! Made sure he wouldn't trip even if he was confused ahha"

He beamed with all the attention on him.

Love Ace's pats so much! They're the best pats in the whole wide world!

"Let's go to the park, Brownie."

Looking up he saw that Ace was holding him now and quickly changed from being next to Marco's legs to be close to Ace. Standing besides him to guide him.

"Park."

With a small wag to his tail he strutted further, happy he found Ace. Now both his humans were together and safe. He would guide them to the park safely. And then he could get his free time.

First work. Then free. Going to get lots and lots of pats and cuddles in free time! Brownie loves his humans so much!
