Chapter 36: Student vs The Master

At the moment, Yuya and Zuzu were running through the volcano area to get away from the Obelisk Force. While they had tried to fight them off at first, there were too many and they were forced to retreat, Zuzu still not fully understanding the situation.

"Yuya, what's going on? What's with those guys in masks?"

"Just hold on. Once we get to Leo Corp, Declan can explain everything."

"Going somewhere?"

Just as they turned another corner, they found Sora blocking their way, along with three members of the Obelisk Force.

"Sora? You're one of them?"

"Took you long enough to figure it out! Now then, are we going to do this the easy way, or the hard way?"

Sora's underlings griinned, maniacally, raising their duel disks.

"Three on two? That's not fair!"

"Life's not fair, now put your deck where your mouth is!"

Yuya, realizing they wouldn't stand a chance as it was, took out a card from his deck and placed it on his duel disk. Performapal Elephammer appeared, and charged. The Obelisk Force, not wanting to be in the way, ran off, Yuya running after them,

"I'll take care of those three! You put Sora in his place!"

"Be careful, Yuya!"

"What're you three doing? Get back here!"

"Forget about them, I'm your opponent now! Or are you too scared?"

Sora laughed wildly.

"Scared? Of you? Did you forget who it was that taught you how to Fusion Summon?"

"Shut up and duel!"

"Fine, if you're in such a hurry to lose."

DUEL!

Zuzu: 8000

Sora: 8000

"I'll start things off with Polymerization! With it, I'll fuse Mozarta the Melodious Maestra with my Elegy to Fusion Summon Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir! I'll end my turn with one card face down."

"Please, like I don't know what you're trying to do! I know all about your Bloom Diva's effect, and I know just how to counter it! First, I'll activate the spell card Future Fusion! First, I reveal my Frightfur Cruel Whale in my extra deck. Now, by sending Fluffal Wings and Edge Imp Chain from my deck to the graveyard, I can summon him in two turns!"

"That's assuming you'll last that long!"

"It's cute that you have that much faith in your abilities. Stupid, but cute. I activate Frightfur Fusion! Now I can cut to the chase and summon Cruel Whale right away, as long as I banish the materials from my graveyard. So join the show, Frightfur Cruel Whale (2600/2400)!"

Zuzu grimaced as the demonic stuffed whale splashed out of the lava pool, hissing at her as it sharpened its blades.

"Yeah, bring it! Just remember Bloom Diva's effect!"

"I did, which is why I summoned him! See, when Cruel Whale is summoned, I can destroy one card on both sides of the field! I think I'll say goodbye to my Future Fusion and you're Diva!"

Zuzu gasped as her Fusion Monster was washed away by a dark red stream of water from the whale's open stomach.

"Next, I'll summon Fluffal Dog (1700/1000) in attack mode! Attack her directly, my pets!"

Zuzu tried to find an action card but failed, the sharp blades of the whale just barely grazing her leg as she tumbled out of the way of its attack, only to be pounced on by the dog.

Zuzu: 3700

"I'll end my turn with one card face down. Face it Zuzu, there's nothing that can help you, so just give up and come quietly. I know The Professor is very eager to meet you."

"If you think I'm going anywhere with you, then you have another thing coming! I'll start with the spell card Pot of Greed, letting me draw two cards from my deck. Next, I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Mozarta, and with her effect I'll summon my Athena in attack mode! Lastly, I summon Aria the Melodious Diva attack mode!

Sora: 7400

"Now Mozarta, attack his Cruel Whale!"

"Please, like It'd be that easy! I activate Cruel Whale's effect! Once per turn, I can send a Frightfur from my deck or Extra deck to the graveyard, like my Frightfur Daredevil! Then one Fusion monster gains that monster's attack points, like my Frightfur Cruel Whale (2600-5600)!"

"I activate my trap card, Reverse Trap! Now instead of gaining those attack points, your Cruel Whale loses them instead (2600-0)!"

"Hey, no fair!"

"Life's not fair!"

Without the attack point gain, Sora's monster stood no chance, and was quickly cut down to size.

Sora: 5200

"Now Shopina, attack his Dog!"

Sora: 4600

"And last but not least, my Aria will attack you directly!"

Sora: 3000

"Have you had enough yet? I end my turn."

"Had enough? I'm just getting started! I'll start with some charity by activating Cards of Sanctity."

Both he and Zuzu refilled their hands, Sora grinning wildly when he saw the cards he drew.

"Get ready Zuzu, because I'm about to kick this duel up a notch! First, I summon Edge Imp Frightfurloid (1300/1300)! Next, I activate another Frightfur Fusion! By banishing my Frightfurloid, my Cruel Whale and my Daredevil, I can Fusion Summon once more! Meet your ultimate nightmare: Frightfur Chimera!"

Sora's frightening toy appeared from the vortex with a feral roar, making Zuzu quake in fear.

"Next, I'll activate my trap card, Metalmorph to give him 300 more attack points (2800-3100)! Now Chimera, attack her Athena (3100-4400)!"

Zuzu spotted an action card and grabbed it. Sora just cackled in delight.

"Don't even bother! When my Chimera battles, my opponent can't use any of their cards or effects! Sorry, but them's the breaks!"

Zuzu watched in horror as the chimera grabbed her Athena and tossed her into the air, before swallowing her whole.

Zuzu: 1900

"But it gets better, because now I can special summon that monster with their attack points halved (2600-1300)! Next, I'll use Shrink to cut your Aria's attack points in half (1600-800)! Attack her Aria, Athena!"

The goddess shot the singer through the heart with an arrow, depleting Zuzu's life points even farther.

Zuzu: 1400

"I'll end my turn there. Give up Zuzu, you can't beat me!"

As Zuzu drew her next card, she paused for a moment.

"Hey, hurry up! Or do you want to surrender?"

"Why are you doing this? We've done nothing to you!"

"Why? Because in this world, the strong thrive and the weak get crushed, that's why! I'm the lion, and you're the gazelle. But don't worry, I'm not going to card you. The Professor wants you alive, and with your help he'll merge the dimensions into one big utopia!"

"Utopia? Are you crazy? After all the destruction you've caused, you think any kind of peace can be maintained?"

Sora just shrugged nonchelantly.

"Stuff happens. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs."

Zuzu clenched her teeth in anger, her hand becoming a fist as her blood boiled.

"I've got to beat some sense into him! But how?"

Zuzu cursed when she saw the card she had drawn.

"Damn, this won't help at all! I might be able to get Athena back, but I won't be able to do much else besides that! And then his Chimera will rip them to shreds! If only I had something I could summon, but what?"

Just then, her pendant and Extra Deck started to glow, catching her attention. When she checked it, she found a card that had not been there before.

Huh? I've never seen this card before! But its effect can help me win, if only I could summon it.

Looking at the card she had drawn, she knew her only chance was to draw the right cards.

"Hey, hurry up! Or have you decided to throw in the towel already?"

"Fat chance! I activate the spell card Card of Sanctuary, letting us refill our hands!"

Perfect!

"This duel is over! First, I'll use Owner's Seal to take back my Athena. Next, I'll use Mozarta's effect to summon Shopina the Melodious Maestra!"

Sora: 2400

"So what? Not one of your monsters can stand up to my

"Maybe not, but do you know what my Athena and Shopina have in common? They're both Level 7!"
"So? What does- wait, you can't mean!"

"I can, and I do! With these two monsters I build the overlay network! Rise from the depths, Dark Anthelion Dragon (3000/2500)!"

Sora was intimidated at first, but quickly went back to being overly cocky when he saw his monster was still stronger.

"Better, but you're still 100 points short! Face it, you can't beat me, especially not with an Xyz Monster!"

"Oh yeah? I activate Dark Anthelion Dragon's effect! By detaching one overlay unit, your Chimera's attack is cut in half, and he gains attack points equal to the amount it lost!"

After eating one of its overlay units, Zuzu's new Xyz Monster shot out bursts of green energy, which wrapped around Sora's chimera and weakened it, before returning to its origin (3100-1550) (3000-4550).

"This duel is over! Dark Anthelion Dragon, attack his Chimera!"

Before Sora could even hope to find an Action Card, the monstrous dragon had already eaten his Chimera and finished off his life points.

Sora: 0000

"Fine, you won one time! That still doesn't change anything! One way or another, your dimension will fall, just like Heartland!"

"How would you like it if someone did that to you? Just came in and destroyed your entire way of life?"

At this, Sora went silent, not having a comeback to that. Then, he raised his duel disk and hit the return function, and began to disappear in a flash of light.

"Sora, wait!"

But Sora was already gone before she could reach him, leaving her to sadly stare at the empty space where he had once stood.

"Sora…"

Suddenly, a loud explosion from behind her went off, drawing her attention.

"Yuya!'

Luckily, her best friend came over, leaving the Obelisk Force he had been dueling bruised and beaten.

"Come on, let's go."

"Yuya, what's going on?"

"No time to explain, we need to get to Leo Corp."

"Um, right."

Cautiously, Zuzu followed Yuya, sure that whatever the explanation was she wasn't going to like it.
