Chapter 41: Escape From Duel Academy Part 2

While his comrades broke out Rin and Lulu, Dennis made his way to the docks to find an escape boat. After a while of searching, he found a suitable vessel.

"Perfect! And the keys are still in there. Now I just need to wait for…"

"My my my, looks like the spider has caught a fly in his web."

Before Dennis could do anything else, a duel anchor latched itself around his wrist, yanking him off the boat and face to face with Yuri.

"I should've known it was too good to be true."

"I expected this behavior from Serena, but not you Dennis. But I'm sure The Professor will be happy to know that the one who let his precious treasures escape will soon be two-dimensional."

"I'm not afraid of you, Yuri."

"You should be."

DUEL!

Yuri: 4000

Dennis: 4000

Before Yuri could make a move, a huge cage surrounded the two of them.

"What's going on?"

"Just a program I installed on my duel disk. This will prevent any outside interference with our duel."

Yuri scoffed at the notion.

"Please, like I need help to defeat the likes of you. I'll start with Predaplant Cephalotusnail (1300/1200) in attack mode! I end my turn."

"No fusion monsters? You're not going easy on me, are you?"

Yuri scoffed.

"Take your damn turn."

"Gladly. SInce you control a monster and I don't, I can special summon Performage Wind Drainer (2100/0) in attack mode! And since he was special summoned, I can reduce his level by 1. Next, I'll bring out Performage Ball Balancer (1000/1000) in attack mode! Now I'll overlay my two level 4 monsters to build the Overlay Network! Come out, Performage Trapeze Magician (2500/2000)!"

Yuri scowled.

"You're still using those wretched Xyz monsters? You're a disgrace."

"These monsters may have been part of my espionage act, but I've come to love them as my own."

"Interesting. Tell me, does Lulu know who you really are?"

Dennis growled, but continued.

"I'll attack Attack Cephalotusnail!"

"Cephalotusnail can't be destroyed by battle while in attack mode, and any damage I take is cut in half!"

Yuri: 3400

"I activate the field spell Hidden Village of the Spellcasters!"

The docks slowly transformed into a small village nestled in the woods.

"As long as this field spell is active, if I'm the only one who controls a Spellcaster, you can't activate your spell cards, which means no Polymerization for you! With one card face down, my turn is over."

Yuri scowled, frustrated with the setback. He was just about to play his first card when Dennis interrupted.

"I activate my trap card, Mage's Fortress! Now since I control a Spellcaster, you can't declare an attack!"

"Oh, no! You've completely locked down my entire strategy! I guess the only thing I can do is set one card face down and end my turn."

Dennis narrowed his eyes. He could've switched his snail to defense mode, so why wouldn't he? Even with his monster's effect, life points weren't something Yuri could afford to lose.

"I activate the spell card, Card of Demise. Now I get some more cards to play with! And what do you know, I got Polymerization! So I'll fuse the two Flame Eaters in my hand to summon Performage Trapeze Witch (2400/1800)! Next, I activate Magician's special ability! By detaching one overlay unit, Trapeze Witch can attack twice this turn! Trapeze Magician, attack Cephalotusnail! But don't forget about Trapeze Witch's effect! When a Performage does battle with one of your monsters, your monster loses 600 attack points (1300-700)!"

Yuri: 2500

"Now Trapeze Witch, have your fun! And unfortunately for you, her effect isn't once per turn (700-100-0)!"

Yuri: 2500- 1350- 150

"I activate the trap card, Predaplanning! By sending Predaplant Flytrap from my deck to the graveyard, each face up monster on the field gets a Predator counter!"

"I'll end my turn there. Ordinarily, my Witch would've been destroyed due to Trapeze Magician's effect, but thanks to her effect my Performages can't be destroyed by card effects. Sorry Yuri, but I guess your winning streak ends here!"

At that, Yuri burst out laughing.

"What's so funny?"

"That you think you have an actual chance of winning! I had everything I needed to win last turn!"

"What? But why would you-"

"Because It's so much fun giving you hope just to crush it! I summon Predaplant Chlamydosundew in attack mode! And since your Trapeze Witch has a Predator Counter, I can use her to fusion summon!"

"Oh no!"

"Oh yes! Come on out, Starving Venom Fusion Dragon! And with his effect, he gains your Magician's attack points (2800-5300)!"

Dennis momentarily panicked, but calmed down once he remembered his defenses.

"Impressive, but thanks to my trap card you still can't attack!"

"You're right, so why don't we fix that? Since I fusion summoned a Dark monster while Predaplanning is in my graveyard, I can banish it to destroy to destroy Trapeze Magician!"

"What?"

Large vines shot up from beneath the ground, ensnaring Dennis's monster as they began to sink back into the earth. The Xyz monster tried to fight them off, but was overwhelmed and went under.

"Now Starving Venom, attack him directly and end this duel!"

Dennis tried to run, only for the plant dragon to wrap one of his vines around his ankle, dragging him into the air before slamming him against the bars of the cage, dropping his life points to zero.

Dennis: 0000

"Ugh, finally! Now to…"

But when Yuri turned to the boat, he was met with an empty dock, his targets having long since fled, much to his fury. Despite the pain he was in, Dennis wheezed out a laugh from the ground.

"Should've been less worried about me, huh?"

"You! You planned this, didn't you?"

"Go ahead and card me if you want. I've redeemed myself for my part in all of this."

Yuri raised his duel disk, ready to card the traitor, but just as he was about to press the button The Professor called him.

"Stand down, Yuri. Bring him to the lab."

Yuri sighed, but knew better than to disobey a direct order.

"Yes, sir. But what about the other targets?"

"Let them go, we'll deal with them later."

"Understood."

Yuri hung up and then grabbed Dennis, slinging him over his shoulder.

"Looks like today's your lucky day. The Professor has plans for you."

Dennis gulped nervously. He didn't like the sound of that.
