Hisashi closed the front door of the apartment behind him as he stepped inside and slipped his shoes off. Tenko was sitting on the couch of the living room, playing games on the console Inko had gotten him a few weeks ago.
"Hey Uncle Hisashi," he said, not looking up from whatever he was so focused on.
Hisashi smiled fondly. "Hey, kid." He flopped down on the couch next to him, making Tenko grunt at the movement but not look up. "What are you playing?"
"Quirks and kings. I'm on the very last level, the boss battle."
Hisashi leaned in to watch over the boy's shoulder, but not enough to be in the way. He cheered him on lightly and watched as different characters in the screen used different quirks to defeat a giant monster.
"C'mon," he whispered, but accidentally jostled Tenko's shoulder too much. The boy mis-clicked and an ice wall flew up in front of the beast.
"No!" He groaned, fingers hurrying to try and make up for the accident. "I needed to save that move!"
The beats roared and the ice wall came crashing down with the noise. A few second later, the words Game Over flashed across a picture of his now dead character.
Tenko turned and narrowed his eyes in a glare at Hisashi. Hisashu raised his hands in surrender. "Hey, it was an accident."
Tenko grabbed a pillow from beside him and flung it into Hisashi's face. With a laugh, Hisashi grabbed a pillow of his own. "Oh, your on!"
They we about five minutes into their pillow war, on the floor beside the couch, and had pillows scattered all about the room by the time Inko walked in from the bathroom.
At first, neither took notice of her, too busy tackling one another to the ground and using cushions to soften or worsen blows. It wasn't until they heard her laugh, a broken and crackly sound, nothing like her usual cheerful tone, that they both looked up at her.
And realized she'd been crying.
Hisashi was at her in an instant. Tenko sat up and watched, seeming to want to do the same, but eventually thought better of it and instead turned to picking up the scattered pillows and cushions, but most definitely still listening.
"What's wrong, dear?" Hisashi bent over slightly in front of her to look her in the eyes, and gently placing his hand on the side of her face, using his thumb to wipe away a tear on her cheek.
She looked up at him and smiled genuinely, leaning into his touch and resting her own hand on the other side of his. "Nothings wrong, these are happy tears."
Hisashi furrowed his eyebrows slightly. "Ok, what happened?"
She chuckled lightly and smiled wider. "We did it."
His eyebrows burrowed farther.
She carefully let go of his hand and pulled out of his touch, then held out her free hand to him. In her hand as a familiar pink and white stick with a small screen. He'd seen them plenty of times, as Inko had been buying them for several months now. What was new, was the two red lines on the screen, instead of one.
His breath did a combination of sputtering, gasping, and stopping entirely before he found himself just frozen stiff, staring at the small object.
Eyes wide, he coughed and forced himself to resume breathing, looking up at Inko with wide eyes. "Does this mean...?"
With a wide smile and new tears in her eyes, she nodded.
He grinned and scooped her up into a big hug, pulling her off the ground and laughing. "Yes! Yes, yes, yes!"
Hisashi set Inko down, but still had his arms wrapped around her tight as Tenko approached. "What's going on?" He seemed slightly weary, but Inko and Hisashi just grinned at each other.
Inko pulled away from Hisashi and, still with tears in her eyes and on her cheeks, crouched down to be eye level with Tenko. "Tenko, dear, your going to be a big brother."
Tenko was dead.
Him. A big brother.
What the heck.
He was always the youngest. The younger brother, the baby. Now he was supposed to be the older one!? He didn't know the first thing about being the older one! Was he going to have to help take care of a baby?
Wait, was he going to have to help change diapers!?
Hana said that what she had to do with him and that it was disgusting. He didn't want to touch poop!
Some of his emotions must've spilled into his expression because Inko suddenly looked worried. "Or- or an older cousin, if we're going by blood. But um, yeah! Uh- what do you think?"
"Will I have to touch poop?"
She blinked at him and Hisashi snorted in the background. "What?" She asked.
"Hana said she had to help change my diaper and that it was really gross. Will I have to...?"
Hisashi laughed harder and Inko smiled. "No, no, me and Hisashi can do that."
"Oh," Tenko breathed.
Well then, if they were pushing aside the whole poop thing...
He grinned. "That's awesome! You guys are having a baby!?"
Inko sagged in visible relief and smiled, cheeks still stained with tears. "Yes, dear."
"Will it be a boy or a girl?" He asked eagerly.
Hisashi, still chuckling, stoped closer. "We don't know yet, we'll have to wait and see."
"Aw, you guys don't get to pick?"
Inko chuckled. "No, dear. It's picked at random. But in a few months we can have a little party to reveal what it will be."
"And until then," Hisashi grinned. "We can make bets. What do you think it'll be?"
Tenko thought for a second. "I hope it's a boy. I've already had a sister, I want a brother now!"
"Yes!" Hisashi raised a hand. "Team boy!"
Tenko gave Hisashi a high five and Inko smiled. "Well, I'm hoping for a girl. But we'll just have to wait and see who's right."
Tenko couldn't stop grinning the rest of the night.
Him! A big brother! This was going to be awesome!
