'This is bad. It's really bad.' , was Thomas's first thought after witnessing the situation. 'If this keeps on happening, then I'll become addicted to it.'
He looked at Newts relaxed face, slightly tipped towards Thomas.
When Thomas woke up, he found himself to be cozily sprawled over Newt's chest with their legs entangled. He shifted his head slightly to look at Newt's face and went into deep thoughts. After a while, he moved his leg a little and froze just as he felt an aching between his legs.
'Oh no! Now it's seriously bad! What do I do? What if Newt finds out about this!?' His luck must have finally turned bad because at that exact moment Newt stirred a little. In a moment of panic, Thomas quickly got up and backed off from Newt.
"Tommy?" Newt's confused from still in sleep voice asked.
"Oh! Hey!" Thomas said as he was creating distance between them, "I… I'm- Ah!" and he fell off the bed.
That made Newt wake up completely as he looked down in alarm, "Tommy!"
Thomas was sitting with a blanket fallen over him on the floor as he massaged his back with a pained expression.
"Are you alright?" Newt asked as he made his way down to help him. But Thomas quickly stood up, rushed towards the bathroom with the blanket.
"I'm fine! Sorry! Thanks!" were the words Newt heard before the closing of the door.
"Why the shuck are you yelling in the morning?" Frypan groaned and went back to sleep.
'Did I make him uncomfortable? Maybe he doesn't like being close.'
"Everything alright?" Minho asked from above, looking at Newt, who stood froze with a guilty expression.
"I don't know." He whispered back and sat down on Thomas's bed, which had been abandoned by him since yesterday.
After a while, Thomas returned with a flushed face and blanket neatly folded, which he tossed aside on the bed not being able meet Newt's eyes.
"Tommy! What happened?" Newt asked. "Are you alright?
"You don't what happened?" Thomas asked in a surprised tone.
"I…" Newt looked confused, 'Is he really mad at me for sleepin' next to him. But we slept together before, too. No, but Minho was there too. I should apologize to him...'
"I'm sor-"
"Fever!" Thomas yelled suddenly, cutting off Newt's words. "I thought I had a fever."
"What? Is that why you're red?" Newt touched his forehead.
"No!" He yelled again, making Newt drop his arm while he touched his own face. "I mean, ahem, no, I don't have a fever. I thought I had a fever and didn't want you to catch it, so I rushed in to splash some water on my face so that my temperature would lower down, but I accidentally opened the hot water tap, ahem, and now I'm even more red, but don't worry you won't catch me- I mean fever you won't catch any fever." He babbled all, while Newt didn't understand a single thing that he said.
Suddenly a pillow was thrown over Thomas's face and Newt found out it was Frypans. "Shut it!"
"Are you taking revenge for how I woke you up yesterday?" Minho said, getting down from his bed.
"No." They both said in unison and then went silent.
Minho looked at both of them with a bored expression, then went into the bathroom. Newt followed him inside and so did every other Glader one by one for their morning rituals. Thomas now stood alone and even more flustered at the memory of how he had just relieved himself of the problem caused by Newt after he rushed inside the bathroom. He tried to calm down his mind and make the red all over his face go away.
"Do you see any of our Gladers here?" Newt asked.
"No," Thomas replied. "Nor do I see Teresa."
A guard just like yesterday came and took them to the canteen for breakfast. They were told that their other Gladers and Teresa were watching that documentary, that's why they couldn't meet. But even now they can't seem to find them.
"I don't feel good but this." Minho said. "We should talk to him." He pointed at Janson who was currently calling out names of people who would get to leave this place.
"Well, That's it for today. Don't worry. There's always tomorrow." Just as Janson finished, Thomas got up and walked toward him.
"Hey, Where's Teresa and our other friends?"
"I told you yesterday. They're watching the documentary."
"Still?"
"How long did it take you to finish? A whole day. You can't expect them to finish watching it this early. They started last night. They'll also need to sleep and eat. They can't just sit there and watch it for straight-up nine hours. That's why their schedule has changed a little from yours. Rest assured, I think you'll meet them tomorrow."
"You think?"
"There's more than a hundred batches of people here. I can't remember all of there's schedule." He turned around and started walking.
"What're we supposed to do? Just wait for them in our dorms?" Minho asked.
"We have a library and gym here. Knock yourself out." And he left hurriedly.
The guard standing next to Janson looked a little surprised but restored his no expression face and came up to them, "So where do you wanna go?"
The Gladers exchanged looks then Newt, Minho and Thomas, all said in unison. "Library."
In reality, Frypan, Winston and Jake had no idea what the other three were thinking, so they just let the trio answer because they trusted them and followed them to the library.
The library was big, filled with thousands of books and a cabin at the corner which had computers inside. To their surprise, there was no one in the library except for a few soldiers who were carrying some large boxes.
Minho got a glimpse of books inside those boxes. And as the soldiers passed through the Gladers with those boxes, he asked, "Where are you taking those books?"
"These are the older version. We replace them with newer ones every year. Happy reading." With that, the soldiers left, leaving the six Gladers alone in the library.
"So, What're we doing here?" Frypan asked.
"Everybody spread up and find anythin' we can related to these people." Newt ordered.
"What?" Winston asked. "Is there something wrong?"
"Are they dangerous?" Jake asked.
"I hope not. Just find somethin'. Anythin' that can tell us about who these people are."
"Wait, why are we doing this?" Winston asked.
"We can't trust these people. We don't know who they are." Thomas answered.
"Yes we do." Frypan said. "They're the ones that saved our ass from WCKD."
"That doesn't exactly make them good." Thomas said. "Look, I don't have a good feeling about these people."
"Why?" Frypan pressed.
"Enough!" Newt yelled. "We don't have time for this. Look, Fry, They're hidin' somethin'. I don't what it is, but… have you seen the rest of our Gladers recently. We've no idea where they are."
"But they said-"
Frypan got cut off by Minho, "How can you trust anything these people say? We have no idea who they are and why they're helping us."
Everyone finally understood what the trio's concern was and got to the job without wasting any time. Newt, Minho and Thomas went directly inside the cabin, so that they could hack into the computer. But to their dismay, "It's not connected to any network." Newt aggravated.
"This one's also not connected." Thomas replied.
"Check all the offline files." Minho told them.
Newt, Minho and Thomas were sitting on a round table in the middle of the library, frustrated as they couldn't find a single thing through the computers.
"There's nothing of importance here." Frypan said as he approached and sat down next to them.
"None of the books contain any information about these people or WCKD. I think new books have stopped being made, 'cause this place doesn't have one that's less than 50 years old." Winston said.
"Then what the bloody hell were they replacin' a while ago." Newt's voice sounded irritated. He was irritated not only because he couldn't find anything, but also because he didn't want to trouble the other Gladers with the situation in hand.
But they deserved to know that something was wrong. He had to share his concern with them because half of the Gladers were missing, these people were really suspicious, and this place was slowly starting to feel like the maze.
"So we gonna spend our all day here now?" Frypan asked.
Minho groaned with his face hidden between the folds of his arms, lying on the table. "This a library. Go read something." His voice was a little muffled.
The Gladers knew the trio was irritated, so without arguing, they went separate ways to find something to entertain themselves.
The three of them remained seated on the table. Newt's hand on his temple, Minho's head down on the table between his arms and Thomas slumped on the chair looking at the ceiling.
"Let's sneak out, search the building." Minho suggested as he looked up, making Thomas sit up and ready to get the plan into action.
"Their watchdog is standing right outside." Newt said, and both of them went back to their previous positions in defeat.
"Let's search the history books. We might find something." Thomas tried.
They doubted they would find anything, and besides it would be a waste of that nine hour documentary they skipped yesterday. But still they sighed and went to the history section of the library.
Their frustration grew when, even hours later of their research, they were with the same amount of information that they had before. All the books that documented the history before the last two decades were detailed. But not a single book contained any actual information related to what happened during the last two decades. All of it was written very vaguely.
They had completely given up on the idea of finding anything inside this library when the guard came inside and reminded them that it was lunchtime. All the six Gladers gathered together, but there was a clear difference of mood between half of them.
Newt, Minho and Thomas, given the situation, looked tired and frustrated. Frypan, Winston and Jake on the other hand looked carefree and surprisingly happy. While they were walking towards the canteen, they found the reason why.
The three of them had found some old movies on the computer and were enjoying the whole time the other trio was banging their heads on history books. Somehow, this didn't make Newt anger but relaxed. Everything was fine as long as his friends were fine.
They sat down together at the table after filling their plates when suddenly someone called, "Oh hey guys."
They looked up and were shocked...
