Bede is Back
The next morning, the group wakes up and exits the motel they were sleeping at; once outside, they hear a familiar voice.
"Hello, everyone." said Sonia.
"Hey, Sonia." replied Lincoln. Sonia looks down at Yamper.
"Looks like Yamper really likes all of you." said Sonia.
"Sure does." said Lana, patting Yamper's head.
"You guys know the mural here on Stow-on-Side?" asked Sonia.
"No." said Lola.
"Well, it's said to tell the story of the hero of Galar as well." said Sonia.
"Really; maybe we can check it out." said Lincoln.
"Sure, although what's there today is actually a replica of the ancient art that used to be there." said Sonia. "You tend to have surprisingly sharp insight, so I was wondering what you might think when you see the ruins." They suddenly hear a loud explosion nearby.
"What was that?!" asked Lincoln. Sonia turned towards a flight of stairs near the stadium.
"Sounds like it came from the direction of the ruins!" said Sonia. "Let's have a look; come on, Yamper." She and Yamper ran to the stairs; Lincoln turned towards the others.
"Should we check it out?" asked Lincoln.
"Might as well." said Ronnie Anne. The group ran towards the direction Sonia and Yamper were going and went up the stairs; when they reached the top, they saw a painting on the side of a cliff wall; but to their surprise, they saw Bede and a large, dark green, elephant-like Pokemon standing in front of it.
"Oh great, it's that Bede jerk." said Luan.
"But what's that Pokemon with him?" asked Ronnie Anne as she takes out her Rotom Phone and holds it towards the Pokemon.
"Copperajah, the Copperderm Pokemon, and the evolved form of Cufant. These Pokémon live in herds. Their trunks have incredible grip strength, strong enough to crush giant rocks into powder." said Ronnie Anne's Rotom Phone.
"Destroy it! Destroy it all!" yelled Bede. "We're going to find those Wishing Stars! We're going to bring the chairman more Wishing Stars if we want to please him." He turned towards Copperajah. "Copperajah, if you're truly the chairman's Pokemon, then you should feel grateful for this chance to help him find Wishing Stars!"
"Hey, what are you doing?!" yelled Sonia, running to Bede with Lincoln and the rest of the group following him, getting Bede's attention.
"You fools again?" asked Bede. "So, you think you can start collecting Wishing Stars now and get in the chairman's favor?" He pulls a pokeball out of his pocket. "Well, I won't have it! I won't allow anyone to stand in my way!" Ronnie Anne steps forward while pulling out a pokeball.
"It's not cool what you're doing to that!" said Ronnie Anne, pointing at the mural on the cliff wall and pulling out a pokeball.
"So, you wish to battle me?" asked Bede. "So be it; Duosion, go!" He throws a pokeball and releases a pale green Pokemon with a large head and stubby arms. Sam takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Duosion, the Mitosis Pokemon, and the evolved form of Duosion. Its brain has split into two, and the two halves rarely think alike. Its actions are utterly unpredictable." said Sam's Rotom Phone.
"Bede's Solosis must have evolved." said Lucy from behind Sam, scaring her.
"Let's go, Sneasel!" said Ronnie Anne as she throws her pokeball, releasing her Sneasel. "Sneasel, use Leer!" Sneasel glares harshly at Duosion, making it nervous and lowering its defense.
"Duosion, use Rock Tomb!" shouts Bede. Duosion uses its psychic powers to pull rocks out of the ground and drop them on Sneasel, doing super effective damage, and lowering his speed.
"Sneasel, use Fury Swipes!" said Ronnie Anne. Sneasel quickly moves at Duosion and swipes at it with his claws, dealing damage to it.
"Duosion, use Rock Slide!" said Bede. Duosion pulls more rocks out of the ground and drops them all on Sneasel, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"No way!" said Ronnie Anne.
"Heh; now do you see how inferior you are?" asked Bede.
"Don't give up, Ronnie Anne!" said Leni.
"I'm no quitter." said Ronnie Anne before returning her Sneasel to his pokeball and putting it on her waist; she pulls off another one and tosses it, releasing her Lycanroc. "Lycanroc, use Bite!" Her Lycanroc runs at the Duosion and bites down hard on it, dealing super effective damage, and making it flinch. "Now hit it with Rock Slide!" Lycanroc summons up large rocks and drops them onto Duosion, doing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"Way to go, Ronnie Anne!" said Clyde.
"Show that jerk who's boss!" said Lana.
"Hmph. You just got lucky." said Bede. He returns his Duosion to its pokeball, puts it in one of his jacket pockets, pulls out another one and throws it, releasing his Gothorita.
"Careful, Ronnie Anne!" said Leni.
"Lycanroc, use Bite!" said Ronnie Anne. Lycanroc runs at the Gothorita and bites down on it, dealing super effective damage; unfortunately, it doesn't flinch.
"Gothorita, use Psyshock!" said Bede. Gothorita fires off blue, light blue, and purple energy orbs at Lycanroc.
"Lycanroc, use Counter!" shouts Ronnie Anne. A red aura covers Lycanroc as the attack hits her; she then channels the attacks energy into her front paw and strikes Gothorita, knocking it to the ground.
"Gothorita, finish it with Payback!" said Bede. Gothorita releases a blast of dark energy at Lycanroc that hits him and knocks him out.
"Lycanroc!" said Ronnie Anne.
"Poor Lycanroc." said Leni.
"I hope Ronnie Anne can turn this around." said Clyde. Ronnie Anne returns her Lycanroc to his pokeball.
"You did great, Lycanroc." said Ronnie Anne. She puts her Lycanroc's pokeball back on her waist and pulls off another one and throws it, releasing her Luxray. "Okay, Luxray, use Bite!" Luxray lunges at Gothorita and bites it, dealing super effective damage to it, and making it flinch. "Now use Spark!" Luxray becomes surrounded by electricity and charges at Gothorita; he rams into Gothorita, knocking her to the ground. Gothorita becomes surrounded by electricity and begins twitching.
"Looks like Gothorita's paralyzed." said Lincoln.
"Gothorita, use Psybeam!" said Bede. Gothorita fights through its paralysis and fires a multicolored beam of energy at Luxray, hitting him.
"Bite, Luxray!" said Ronnie Anne. Luxray lunges at Gothorita and bites it, knocking it out.
"You go, Ronnie Anne!" cheered Luna. Bede returns Gothorita to its pokeball and pulls out another one; he throws it, releasing Ponyta.
"Ponyta, use Stomp!" said Bede. Ponyta runs at Luxray and stomps on him with its front hooves, damaging him, and making him flinch. "Now use Psybeam!" Ponyta fires a multicolored beam out of its horn and it hits Luxray.
"Luxray, Charge!" said Ronnie Anne. Sparks covered Luxray's body and his special defense increases.
"Ponyta, Psybeam!" said Bede. Ponyta fires another multicolored beam of energy from its horn and it hits Luxray, but not doing as much damage as the previous Psybeam due to Luxray's special defense being increased; Luxray begins stumbling around dizzily.
"Uh oh, Luxray's confused." said Clyde.
"Luxray, try using Spark!" said Ronnie Anne. Luxray fights through his confusion and his body becomes surrounded by electricity; he charges at Ponyta and rams it, knocking it to the ground. Ponyta struggles to get up.
"Use Stomp!" said Bede. Ponyta stomps down on Luxray with its front hooves and knocks him out.
"Don't worry, Ronnie Anne; you can still turn this around." said Lincoln. Ronnie Anne returns Luxray to his pokeball.
"You were amazing, Luxray." said Ronnie Anne. She puts Luxray's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Larvesta, go!" She throws Larvesta's pokeball and releases her.
"Ponyta, use Stomp!" said Bede. Ponyta runs at Larvesta and stomps her with its front hooves, damaging her.
"Use Flame Charge!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta becomes covered in fire and she charges at Ponyta, ramming it, and knocking it out.
"Take that, Bede!" said Lana.
"Keep it up, Ronnie Anne!" said Sam. Larvesta begins surging with energy and her speed increases from Flame Charge. Bede growls and returns Ponyta to its pokeball, then pulls out another one.
"Hattrem, go!" said Bede, throwing the pokeball and releasing a small, pink, humanoid Pokemon with a large mass of light blue hair with braids on its head. Lola takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Hattrem, the Serene Pokemon, and the evolved form of Hattena. Using the braids on its head, it pummels foes to get them to quiet down. One blow from those braids would knock out a professional boxer." said Lola's Rotom Phone.
"Hattrem, use Brutal Swing!" said Bede. Hattrem leaps at Larvesta while one of her braids glows pink and it hits Larvesta with it, knocking her back.
"Larvesta, Leech Life!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta lunges at Hattrem and bites it, dealing super effective damage and healing some of her wounds.
"Hattrem, use Confusion!" said Bede. Hattrem's eyes glowed purple and Larvesta gets lifted up into the air; she gets slammed down onto the ground. As Larvesta gets up, she begins stumbling around.
"Now Larvesta's confused." said Lincoln.
"Larvesta, try using Leech Life!" said Ronnie Anne. Unfortunately, confusion gets the better of Larvesta and she bites into a rock, making her damage herself.
"Hattrem, Brutal Swing!" said Bede. Hattrem leaps at Larvesta and strikes her with its braid, knocking Larvesta to the ground.
"Larvesta, use Leech Life!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta leaps at Hattrem, but she rams into a rock instead, damaging herself.
"Psybeam!" said Bede. Hattrem holds out her hands and fires a multicolored beam of energy from them, hitting Larvesta, and knocking her out.
"Oh man; now Ronnie Anne has one Pokemon left." said Leni.
"Ronnie Anne can still turn this around." said Lincoln. Ronnie Anne returns Larvesta to her pokeball.
"You did your best, Larvesta; you rest now." said Ronnie Anne. She puts Larvesta's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Blastoise!" She throws Blastoise's pokeball and releases her. "Okay, Blastoise, Rain Dance!" Blastoise begins dancing around and gray clouds form above both trainers and their Pokemon; rain comes down from the clouds.
"Now Blastoise's water attacks are stronger now." said Lincoln.
"Hattrem, use Brutal Swing!" said Bede. Hattrem leaps at Blastoise while her braid glowed pink.
"Iron Defense!" said Ronnie Anne. Blastoise tucks her limbs and head into her shell and it glows white and shines, greatly raising her defense before Hattrem hits her, but not doing much damage. "Now use Aqua Tail!" Blastoise's limbs and head pop out of her shell; water begisn spiraling around her tail and she swings it at Hattrem, hitting it, and knocking it to the ground.
"Psybeam!" said Bede. Hattrem fires a multicolored beam of energy from her hands and it hits Blastoise, making her take only a step back.
"Water Pulse!" said Ronnie Anne. Blastoise fires a blue ball of water out of her left cannon and it hits Hattrem, damaging it; it begins to stumble around.
"Ha! Now Hattrem's the one confused!" said Lola.
"Hattrem, Psybeam!" said Hattrem. Hattrem holds out its hands and multicolored energy forms on them; but confusion gets the better of Hattrem and the energy explodes, knocking Hattrem to the ground.
"Now use Aqua Tail!" said Ronnie Anne. Blastoise's tail become surrounded by water; she swings it at Hattrem and hits it, knocking it out.
"Ronnie Anne did it!" said Lincoln.
"In your face, Bede!" said Lana before letting out a belch.
"Woot woot; way to go, Blastoise!" said Ronnie Anne. Blastoise lifts up her arms and cheered. Bede drops to his knees and returns Hattrem to its pokeball.
"How can this be?" asked Bede. "How can you kids get in my way? I was the one chose by the chairman! I was the one to defeat the champion! I'm one of the elite, someone who can shoulder the future of the Galar Region!"
"Challenger Bede!" they hear someone yell. Everyone looks to see Oleana, followed by Chairman Rose, and two league officials running up the stairs and stopping on the top. "I wondered what you were up to when you asked to borrow Chairman Rose's Copperajah. I can't believe you'd try to use the chairman's Pokemon to destroy a historical sight."
"Who cares for some ancient ruin when the next thousand years are at stake?!" asked Bede. "Did you stand in the path of a Pokemon's Simple Beam or something? How do you expect to support the chairman with that sort of thinking?"
"Young Bede." said Chairman Rose, shaking his head, sadly. "It pains me to have to say this, but I am truly disappointed. It's true that I am the one who found you, back when you were all alone." He clutches his forehead and shakes his head. "I saw talent in you. You reminded me a little bit of myself, back when I was young. That's why I sent you to Trainer's School, to give you a chance at success, but trying to destroy the mural, part of Galar's history, you show no love toward Galar. You are clearly not a worthy challenger for the Gym Challenge."
"You could say that again." said Luna.
"We will decide what to do with you, later." said Chairman Rose. "For now, you will return to Hammerlocke." A stunned look appeared on Bede's face.
"You...you must be joking, right?" asked Bede. "You're disqualifying me from the Gym Challenge?! You're the one who endorsed me! There are hundred different ways to sort this out, why are you choosing the worst possible option?!"
"Challenger Bede; I will be taking those Wishing Stars you have gathered." said Oleana. The two officials approached Bede and took all his Wishing Stars while Chairman Rose returns Copperajah to its pokeball. Moments later, the group were alone with Chairman Rose and Oleana.
"Terrible shame, all of this. An absolute disaster." said Chairman Rose. "I never wish to see us lose challengers for this sort of reason; yet we do what we must to keep things fair and sportsmanlike." Chairman Rose and Bede then turned and walked away.
"Bede got what was coming to him." said Lincoln.
"I'll say." said Clyde. "Vandalism just isn't right."
"You know, during one of Bede's matches, I heard the announcer say that Bede has no family." said Sonia.
"Really?" asked Leni with a sad look on her face.
"Yes, and apparently, it was Chairman Rose who took Bede under his wing, and so Bede was battling for the chairman's sake." said Sonia.
"Still, it wasn't right of him to go this far." said Lincoln as he and the others look at the damaged mural.
"What an awful turn of events." said Sonia. Suddenly, the mural starts to crack.
"Guys, watch out!" said Lincoln as the cliffside crumbles apart and rubble falls; everyone manages to avoid getting buried.
"That was close." said Ronnie Anne.
"Is everyone okay?" asked Clyde. Once everyone confirmed that they were unharmed, they look to see where the mural was to see two large statues of Pokemon; one holding a sword in its mouth while the other one had a shield, behind the Pokemon statues were two more of two men wearing crowns, that were hidden in the mountain side.
"What are those?" asked Luna.
"They're statues." said Lucy.
"Are they of Pokemon?" asked Lana.
"What about the two people wearing crowns?" asked Lola. While the group was looking at them, Sonia was contemplating something; she soon comes to a realization.
"Not a brilliant turn of events, but the ruins were brought into the light for us to see." said Sonia. "What does this tell us about Galar's legends?"
"You mean the Pokemon with the sword and shield?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes, more than any hero, those Pokemon are what stand out the most!" said Sonia. "Anything else look interesting to you all?"
"That there were two heroes?" asked Clyde.
"But wasn't there a statue of one hero back at the Budew Drop Inn?" asked Lincoln.
"Exactly; what does it mean?" asked Sonia. "Perhaps these ruins show us the truth of what happened years ago."
"Maybe the sword and shield that the statue was holding represented the two Pokemon that these statues are of." suggested Lana.
"That is an interesting theory." said Sonia. "I need to look into this further. You all just continue with the Gym Challenge." The group then head to the Pokemon Center to get Ronnie Anne's Pokemon treated.
"This adventure keeps getting more and more interesting." said Ronnie Anne.
"What else do you think we'll discover?" asked Luna.
"I'm not certain." said Lincoln. "But we should focus on our Gym Challenge in the meantime."
"Good idea." said Lucy from behind Lincoln, startling him.
The group has learned more about the history of Galar. What else will they experience as their Galar adventure continues?
