Song Inspiration: Never Knew I Needed by Ne-Yo

Mercedes looked in awe as she drove down the country road she was currently on, the vast fields of wild flowers and trees were something she'd never experienced but ever since her mother finally told her about her father and his family she finally reached out. She was headed to a small town in Alabama and against her mother's better wishes she decided to drive the fifteen hours from school to her great-grandmother's home.

Her father passed away when she was one and she had no real memories of him, only the ones her mother would tell her but for some reason her mother decided it was time she knew his side of her family. Mercedes was twenty years old and a sophomore at NYU, city life was all she knew and now here she was in the middle of nowhere absolutely stunned at how beautiful her surrounding were. She couldn't help but smile as her GPS updated her on her estimated time of arrival because she was technically only a few miles away from finally meeting a side of her family she's always wondered about. That is until her car started sputtering, she wasn't too sure what to do but she told herself not to panic.

"It's fine, just check all the little lights." She said to herself knowing she didn't know a damn thing about cars. She had a full tank of gas, the lights that were on when she last stopped were still on which she assumed was normal. She thought maybe it was her tire so she pulled over onto a side road and got out noticing the once really beautiful blue sky was slowly turning grey and she prayed it didn't mean rain, she hated driving in the rain. She kicked all her tires assuming they were fine and decided to give her car a break and her some time to stretch her legs before getting back on the road.

"Worst freaking idea… who gives their car a damn break huh?" Mercedes said to herself trying to turn the engine over once more but still nothing and to make matters worse it started to rain, hard. She pulled her picked her phone up again hoping a signal would magically reappear but nope nothing. She figured calling 9-1-1 would be a bit of an over kill but she couldn't stay out in the rain and if she was honest it was beyond raining and the thundering that started was beginning to scare her.

Tap! Tap!

"Oh great, I'm about to die." She said when she heard the tapping at her window assuming it was hail or rocks.

TAP! TAP!

"Hey! You can't be out here!" She heard and she whimpered slightly because she didn't know what to do.

"There's a bad storming coming you have to get inside!" She heard the voice say before her door flung open.

"Jesus woman, you can't stay in your car!" A man, very handsome and wet man said looking at her like she was crazy.

"I… what are… hey don't touch me! What are you-" She was stunned silent when the man basically yanked her from her seat and tossed her over his shoulder like she weighted two pounds before placing her into the open door of his truck.

"Do you have any bags in there?" He asked and she nodded still trying to comprehend what just happened. He just turned back around and searched her car before opening her trunk and grabbing all her things, her phone and keys and closing her door before getting into his truck and shooting her a hard look that made her both nervous and slightly turned on.

"Damn city girl." He muttered before driving off down the road right as a bright stream of lightening flashed through the sky making her jump slightly. She wasn't sure what was about to happen but she needed an exit plan quickly.

The drive was short, but the man beside her remained a mystery. His hard glances and muttered words made her angry, wondering why she deserved such treatment from a perfect stranger. Despite this, she couldn't help but steal glances at him, finding his wet appearance and perfectly fitted white shirt accentuating his toned body and broad shoulders undeniably attractive. Those same shoulders had held her up with ease, as if she were weightless, though she knew for certain that she was no feather. She was proud of her own appearance - short in stature compared to the mysterious man, with deep brown skin, doe-like eyes, full lips, and curves that her mother's best friend Santana always praised. "You've got a body most people pay for," Santana used to say, "and you should be damn proud of it." And proud she was, because she took care of herself and never received complaints from any of the lucky few who had seen her body without clothing. Not that she was vain by any means - just confident in her own skin.

The man beside her was tall and fit, with a golden tan and a pronounced jawline that he kept clenching. His hair fell past his shoulders, damp from the recent rain, and was hidden under a dark brown cowboy hat which obscured his eyes but not his full lips, pressed together in a deep frown.

"What the hell were you thinking?" MM asked her taking her from her obvious staring.

"I… my car just stopped and I didn't have a signal then it started to rain and- wait why am I explaining myself to you? You're the one that kidnapped me!" She replied furrowing her brows at him.

"You wanna get out?" He challenged stopping his truck and looking at her and this time she could see his eyes. His hard, very much gorgeous green eyes that made her forget why she was mad before he rolled them and continued the drive down the road before finally stopping at an old looking farm house. He got out first before her door opened and he nodded her out to which she looked at him like he was crazy and he let out an annoyed growl before grabbing her and throwing her over her shoulder yet again.

"I'm not some damn rag doll!" she shouted but if fell on deaf ears as he quickly jogged inside before literally dropping her grumbling under his breath before going back outside as a loud rumble of thundering crashed throughout the home and strong gusts of wind made the shutters slam harshly against the old house.

"I see he found you in enough time." A voice said from behind her and she scrambled to get off the floor turning slowly being greeted by an older man with soft blue eyes and an amused smirk on his face.

"I'm sorry what?"

"My grandson has this whole place wired with motion sensors, had he gone left instead of right you my sweet would be stuck in a very nasty storm."

"Oh... I just, I was just giving my car a break and then it wouldn't start." She explained feeling more at ease with the order man before he tilted his head looking at her intensely.

"You look familiar..."

"I'm not from here, I'm from New York and my mom-"

"Damn city girl got stuck out on Stevens Road." MM muttered before tossing her bags down at her feet officially soaking wet. He took his hat off and she was finally able to take in his full appearance. Her first assessment of him had been accurate, he was handsome.

"I have a name you know." Mercedes said shooting MM a hard look but taking a step back when he invaded her personal space.

"I don't care." He said towering over her and narrowing his eyes at her. "You could've been hurt or worse if I hadn't found you in enough time... then you had the damn nerve to fight me on getting you out of there."

"Forgive me for not wanting to be kidnapped by a damn stranger." She muttered earning another growl from him.

"Go start the fire, we don't need her getting sick." His grandfather said still looking at Mercedes before she placed her hands on her hips and huffed.

"You're a Jones aren't you?" He asked her and she looked at him shocked.

"Ah. Well my dad's last name was Jones so yes."

"Jesus, of all people you bring a Jones here?" The older man boomed at MM.

"How was I supposed to know? I couldn't just leave her there beside Pop Pop is sleeping, so it's fine."

"The hell I am." A loud rough voice said and Mercedes suddenly felt beyond nervous, so nervous that she took a step backwards not looking behind her before she fell over hitting her head on something hard, then blackness.
