Prologue: A Deal Come Due

James had made a huge mistake.

As he looked down at the still form of Severus Snape, the boy's body torn to pieces and leaking blood onto the ground, he realized that this wasn't something he could talk his way out of. While he may have gotten in trouble with some of his previous antics, he was always able to escape the worst of the punishment since they were just mean-spirited pranks. No one was hurt and they were only inconvenienced or annoyed,

However, this is something that not even Dumbledore could ignore. A dead student was bad enough. The fact that he died because of a werewolf student is even worse. But the worst thing was the fact that he was only there because James had tricked and taunted him into going. If it wasn't for him, then Snape would never have been in danger.

Sirius had talked some sense into him when he had heard, but they had arrived too late. Severus had reached Remus after he had changed and was immediately hunted down. The two of them could only watch as the boy that had been the target of many of their jokes was ripped to pieces by one of their best friends.

James tried to use any healing magic he knew on Severus while Sirius attempted to subdue the feral Remus. Despite both of their respective efforts, they were failing on both fronts. The sheer number of deep wounds in Severus was far more than James' meager healer knowledge could combat while the magic-resistant hide of a werewolf made Sirius' attempts to stun and pin him down fail.

Right when James could see the light in Severus' eyes fading, everything seemed to freeze. While this could be explained as his brain speeding up to try and come up with a solution, the sounds of the battle had also disappeared. He looked over to see Remus frozen in place with a snarl as his claws slashed towards Sirius. Sirius had a look of fear on his face as he dodged away and one of his spells hung motionless in the air.

"What is going on?" James whispered in shock.

"I just felt like it would be better if we had some peace and quiet for our chat," a voice said.

James whipped his head around to see Peter, the last member of his friend group, the Marauders. The typically shy and reserved boy now possessed an amused grin as he walked with a confidence that was completely alien.

"What's going on, Peter?" James asks. "Why is everything frozen?"

"I didn't want anything to interrupt," Peter admitted. "But more importantly, my name is not Peter. That is just the name that this pitiful body goes by. I would have preferred something a little nicer like the Black heir, but the dark families always were smart enough to mark their children with the symbols necessary to resist possession."

"What do you mean possession?" James asked as his mind raced to try and make sense of the situation.

"I expected an old family like the Potters to know about us," Peter said. "Maybe this will give you a hint."

With a flicker, Peter's eyes changed from a dull brown to a sharp yellow that filled the entire eye. Just as soon as it appeared, Peter's eyes returned to normal.

"Demon," James whispered in fear. He remembered hearing bedtime stories from his mom about demons. They were human souls that had fallen to hell after they died. After being exposed to the corruption for long enough, they ceased to be humans and became demonic spirits that possessed humans on the mortal plane to make deals and sow chaos.

"So you have heard of us," the demon replied with a chuckle. "That makes this easier."

"What do you want from me?" James asked. "My soul?"

"I have more souls than I could ever need," the demon said, waving off the suggestion. "Far too many humans are so quick to give them up that I can stand to pass on yours."

"What do you want then?" James asked, his voice almost trembling in fear.

"I want to make a trade," the demon said. "I will help you with your little problem right now and you help me with one in the future."

"How can you fix this?" James asked once more.

"I will make this all like it never happened," the demon explained. "It would be Sirius who told Snape, you would have saved him, and no one would ever know the truth. Just think of it. Wouldn't Lily be so happy that you put aside your grudge with Snape and saved her former friend?"

James was about to refuse on principle until the demon mentioned Lily. If nothing changed, then his life would be ruined. He would have intentionally caused another student's death, Lily would never talk to him again, he would be expelled from Hogwarts, his wand would be snapped, and he would lose his heir status. He had everything to lose, but also everything to gain.

He could be the man who saved his enemy despite their animosity. Lily always said he needed to grow up. If it worked the way the demon said, then it would look like he had grown up and moved on. There is no way Lily would be able to turn down a date with him when he had matured and saved her ex-best friend.

"What would I have to do for you?" James asked.

The demon smiled as he knew the foolish boy had already been hooked. The rest of this would just be soothing the wizard's dying sense of morals. If there was anything the demon was experienced in, it was helping people to justify their own actions.

"It would be simple," the demon assured. "I have a vested interest in seeing a child brought into the world. You do not have to worry about me tainting any of your future children. The cost of the deal would be that the first pregnancy you and your future wife have will include a little something extra. What would be one child will instead be two. The second baby will be mine. He won't be related to either of you in any way, physically or spiritually. He will be a wisp of spirit that takes physical form in the womb. The mother will serve as a surrogate for bringing the child into the world and you will take care of him until I one day claim him."

"Is he the Antichrist?" James asked, his confidence in the idea fading as he realizes he might be bringing about the apocalypse.

"Of course not," the demon replied with a dismissive wave of his hand. "The Antichrist is born as the son of the fallen archangel himself. At worst, the child would be a demon in human form. Dangerous? Possibly. Apocalyptic? No."

"Fine," James said. "How do we confirm the deal?"

"A simple handshake will do," the demon said as he extended his hand forward. "You can always say no. This is your choice."

The statement was more of a formality than anything because it did not change James' mind in the slightest. He immediately reached out and grasped the man's hand.

"One last thing, I might visit on Halloween nights to check in," the demon said as an afterthought. "I would suggest that you avoid interrupting me."

James didn't have any time to respond before he suddenly found himself sitting in the Gryffindor common room. A glance out of the window showed that it was currently night.

"Thanks for fixing my mistake, James," Sirius says from beside him. "I don't know what would have happened if I had gotten the greaseball killed."

"Yeah, sure," James said, a smile spreading across his face. "What are friends for?"

--

The years passed and James' life turned out very well for him. He graduated from Hogwarts with high NEWT scores that let him join the aurors. Lily started dating him and they got married. Everything was going perfectly for him despite the war against Voldemort. Well, almost everything.

As he looked down at the crib filled with two sleeping babies, he felt a sense of unease as he took in the sight of one. While his daughter was normal by every metric, the infant boy beside her was not. When she would cry and wail, he would be completely calm. While she would be picky when eating and throw food, he would sit there and eat without concern. Every time that his daughter would laugh and giggle as she played with her toys, the boy would sit there and attempt to understand the toy instead.

Lily thought it was cute and adorable how their daughter would cuddle up to the boy as they slept, but James knew better. It wasn't even human. The only reason he didn't try and kill it is because he knew the demon was keeping an eye on him and he wasn't stupid enough to try and break a contract.

So, he just stomached his hate for the hellspawn whenever he had to. Lily had wanted to name him James, but he was able to steer her to the name of Harry instead since it was her favorite grandpa's name. As a compromise, they named their daughter Jasmine since it was similar to James and it was a flower like Lily's family tradition of flower names for girls demanded.

As it stood, he did his best to limit how close his family was to the demonic child. He nudged Lily into spending more time with Jasmine since she was the fussier of the two. He used the excuse that he should have some time for father-son bonding while she enjoyed mother-daughter time as well. Neither James nor Harry tried to use this time to anything more than pursue their own interests. The boy had recognized James' distaste for him long ago and stopped attempting to interact with the man. Thus, any time they were forced to be in the same room resulted in James reading a quidditch magazine while Harry colored or did some other activity.

His only annoyance is that Jasmine seemed to enjoy spending her time with Harry more than he could deter. It likely stemmed from the fact that she had not had the chance to be around other children her age much before they had to remain under the Fidelius barrier. As such, she had bonded closely with the only other person that was like her, Harry. James did what he could to limit it, but Lily was too nice for her own good at times. She had vetoed the idea of separate cribs since it would have stopped Jasmine from cuddling with her best friend. James had to hold himself back from saying that was the whole point.

Letting off a deep sigh, he left the room and gently closed the door behind him. If he made a loud sound, he knew that it would wake up Jasmine and it would be an ordeal to calm her down. Harry would only be slightly annoyed if it even managed to wake him up to begin with.

The reason James didn't want to take any risks was because it was Halloween. He remembered the final warning the demon gave. As such, he made sure that Lily would not enter the nursery tonight.

As he rested in the living room with his wife after dinner, he didn't expect the front door and the wall surrounding it to be blasted out with an explosion. Dust flew through the air along with debris as James immediately protected his eyes from damage. Once the initial barrage of splinters abated, he saw a figure step through the newly made hole into the house.

The man who had single-handedly started a war among wizards in Britain. The first Dark Lord to appear since Grindelwald. A wizard who could fight Dumbledore himself on equal footing. A man who had given up his humanity for power long ago.

Voldemort.

"Run, Lily!" James shouted. "Hide!"

"I will get the kids," Lily said before running upstairs. James didn't have a chance to stop her before a barrage of spells from the approaching dark wizard forced him to defend and focus on the threat.

As James attempted to hold off the Dark Lord, he could tell how much more powerful Voldemort was. The only reason that he hadn't been killed with the dark wizard's initial spell-chain was because the man was toying with him. The sadistic smile on his face just proved that.

Despite this, James did his best to distract him and prayed that the demon had not come to the home yet. The momentary distraction was all that Voldemort needed to break through James' shield before casually throwing him into the wall. James collapsed to the ground unconscious with blood pouring down from a cut on his head.

--

Lily rushed into the nursery only to see a figure standing in front of the crib. The only reason that she could make out his form in the darkness is because the window in front of him provided enough contrast. He was looking down at the two infants inside as they slept.

"Who are you?" Lily asks as fear coursed through her body and she aimed her wand at the intruder. Was this one of Voldemort's Death Eaters?

The man turned and the only feature that she could make out through the dark was the solid yellow eyes that almost seemed to glow as they looked back at her. He flicked his hand and sent her wand flying to the side. Another flick tosses her in the other direction where her head strikes a dresser and renders her unconscious.

The demon looked back at the children and idly notices that a few drops of his blood had fallen on the human child instead of into the boy's mouth. She began to writhe in her sleep, discomfort mixing with pain as she began to make sounds of distress. The demon wondered what would come of the exposure given time. His musing was interrupted by the entrance of a wizard.

The man was dripping with so much dark magic it was surprising that he had not already made a deal with a demon. His soul was so fragmented and corrupted that he would convert to a demon quickly when he ended up in Hell. His physical form showed this better than anything since his eyes were an intense red, his skin a pale white, his hair had all fallen out long ago, and his nose had faded to a pair of slits in his face.

The wizard saw the demon and attempted to cast a green spell at him. Since it was designed to separate a soul from a body, it doesn't work on the demon because the demon has no soul to affect. The wizard was surprised for a brief moment before the demon flung the spell back at him. The deformed wizard burst into ashes as he was struck, his spirit flying away instead of crossing to the afterlife.

As he looked around the room and considered the mother and daughter present, he had the idea to take back the happiness that James had been able to acquire through their deal. Since the deal culminated in this family, why not take them away? A wicked smile crossed the demon's face as he decides on the plan.

He turns to the infant girl first. After all, what pain is greater than losing a child at such a young age? He would awaken the mother so that she could properly fall into despair at the sight of her dead child before he killed her too. Then, he would burn down the house and force James to continue raising the boy. They still had a contract and it was just James' fault for not adding in any clauses about harming his family.

The demon flicked his finger at the girl to cut her life short when he felt the attack reflected back at him, much like he had just done to the wizard. He was able to counter the attack before it struck him since it wasn't a full power, but he had never encountered something that could reflect a burst of demonic telekinesis like that before. His eyes were drawn to the only thing that could explain it and he was surprised by a sight that he had not seen in all of his centuries of existence.

One of the boy's eyes had shifted to the demonic black possessed by most demons. However, the real shock came from the other eye. It glowed with the blue light of an angel.

"You really underestimate these humans, don't you, Azazel?" a voice says from behind him. The demon turns to see a brown-haired man walk forward before he peers into the crib. "You never considered that your little pet project would take issue with you trying to kill his cribmate."

"He isn't human, Gabriel," Azazel growls. "What gives you the right to interfere? I thought that you were still hiding from Heaven as that Norse god, Loki."

"That was only a temporary measure," Gabriel admits. "I was always looking for a better long-term option. Lo and behold, here he is. A child who is the perfect vessel. A being who would allow an angel or demon to release their full power in the mortal world while never burning out. You weren't completely wrong when you said he wasn't human. He is a human soul with a spark of angelic grace and a wisp of demonic miasma. Not enough of either to be a nephilim or a cambion. Quite a lucky find in the pits of Hell."

"I found him first," Azazel says. "My blood binds him to me."

"I am bond to him as well," Gabriel replies with a smile. "He wanted to make a deal because he wasn't strong enough to counter you alone. Part of me and part of you both reside inside of him. How about we make a game of it. We both clearly want him as a vessel. Why don't we drop him in the most chaotic environment and see what wins out in the end? Good or evil. Heaven or Hell. Angel or demon."

"Where would we find a neutral party that fits the bill?" Azazel asks. As annoying as the rogue archangel was, he proposed an interesting way to balance the chances.

"What better place than with one of your other test children?" Gabriel asks. "A family touched by the demonic and tied to the angelic. You know what their future holds. Their potential for my brothers."

"That is your solution?" Azazel confirms. "You think that the best place for a tiebreaker is by having him grow up with hunters?"

"Of course," Gabriel replies with a laugh. "What better place to get a taste of light and dark than with that family? Say what you will, few families are as chaotic as the Winchesters."

Author's note:

Another first chapter for another new story! I am once more delving into a new fandom with Supernatural!

To be honest, one of the main reasons I wanted to try this out is because I could never seem to find any Supernatural fanfics, crossover or not, that did not include some form of weird romance with Dean and Cass, or Sam and Cass, or Sam and Dean, or all three of them.

Worry not dear readers! This will be a story where those guys have their own romances with the many beautiful ladies of the Potterverse.

Harry will grow up as Harry Winchester. I will be doing a time jump to the beginning of the first year at Hogwarts to try and cut out filler for the most part. I will also be bumping up the age of first years to 18. This is mainly to help give time to allow Harry to have become a hunter himself and become part of the team instead of serving as their preteen sidekick.

I will be updating this again soon because I was halfway through writing the first chapter when I realized I hadn't done the prologue yet, so stay on the watch for that.

Let me know how I did with a review. They really help keep my writing momentum up so that I can continue to pump out chapters. Is the story working so far? Did I mess anything up? Feel free to let me know.

If you want to keep up to date on the story, favorite and follow so that you are notified when a new chapter is released.

A pleasure as always,
