1. Introduction

When they had first met, it was soon forgotten. A nearby display of notes had resonated in the hallways, delighting the ears of the pianist. He had turned his head, searching for the origin of where the music came from. Peeking into a classroom, he saw a girl, swaying in time with the music with her lips forming a pout. He had wanted to walk in, to tell her that her playing was beautiful, but had heard someone calling for him. He shifted, deciding to look for this girl later, when he had the time to slowly tell her his respect for her music.

2. Love

How he was stuck with this parasite, he would never know. She had disgusting habits, never having regular showers and never cleaned her own apartment. She had terrible fashion, wearing only plain clothing. It was when he had been forced to play a duet with her, did he realise what kind of person she was. How could he still discriminate her due to her looks? But what he really hated about her was when she somehow effortlessly made him fall in love…

3. Light

When Shinichi opened his eyes, sunshine flooded in, burning his eyes. Beside him, the blanket shifted, auburn hair peeking out. Sitting up, he looked over to his right, smiling when he saw the pout on her face. She must be dreaming about playing piano, he thought. Never did he think that she had actually been awake for a long time, pouting that he woke up before she could see his sleeping face bathed in the morning light. Not everything goes to plan though.

The smell of copper came from the other side of the door, raising fear in his heart. Who knew what kind of stupidity Nodame had done this time. He could only hope she didn't bleed to death. Opening the door, he heard a shout from said girl coming from the bathroom. He cautiously crept to the door. The stench of blood became stronger as he edged closer to the bathroom. Knocking the door to know he was there, he raised his voice.

"What is it, Nodame?"

"Ah, Shinichi? Can you do me a favour? There are no more pads… There's nothing stopping Mother Nature, is there? Sorry…"

Under the sun, they were professionals. They had careers to fulfil, and personalities to fit into. They were stereotyped, having to prove society wrong and that they did know who they were. It was under the stars, that all expectations fell off their shoulders and they could bask in each other's attention. She would occasionally play their beloved piano, while he stood over her, correcting and enjoying her music. With the moon as their witness, they could truly be relaxed, sharing their warmth.

Eyes blindfolded, she breathed in the heavy scent of wood, fingers itching in anticipation. He had said he would give her a surprise, but never had she thought he would go to such lengths. Feeling delicate hands undo the knot of the material on her eyes, it slipped away and she blinked. Drawing back, her eyelids continued to flutter, getting used to the suddenly bright lighting. Widening her eyes, she realised that in front of her was a masterpiece. It was a legacy; something that would be passed on through the generations. It was a piano. A piano that was filled with something the couple both cherished with their hearts; music.

There was no movement, other than the pouring rain. There was no sound, other than the pattering water drops. There was no one around, other than the two drenched couple. There was nothing to deny, other than the fact that she was hurt. But she didn't bleed, nor did she wail in pain, No, she was hit, a blow to her heart, wrenching in her chest. Tears slid over her cheeks, neither acknowledging the man in front of her, nor the worry in his eyes. Neither moved, neither said anything. The rain washed everything away.

Fitting the jigsaw was hard. Shinichi had always believed that love was his choice; that he would be the one to decide who he loved or not. He loved his mother, he didn't love his father. He loved his teacher, Vieira –sensei, he didn't love his other mentor, Stresemann. He loved his previous girlfriends, not this stupid pest that continued to suck away at his patience. But he had to admit, they all made up a part of his life, and though he hated to admit it, Nodame was a big part. She was his last piece. Her love was all he needed.
