Rise of the Reborn: Descendant of a Folk-Hero [DxD]

Chapter 1: Taking Issei's place

Rain poured on the town of Kuoh as night rapidly approached. "Oh man, I can't believe how let it is! Mom's going to be so pissed at me!" Issei Hyoudou shouted as he raced down the street on his bike. 'Well, it's not my fault, me and the boys had to make our game plan! I mean, come on! My second year at Kuoh Academy starts in two days! I refuse to be a boobless loser this year! I swear this year is the start of my harem!" Issei shouted to the night sky, peddling his way home; he only needed to cross one last bridge before reaching his street.

Issei never saw the attack coming. A magic bullet slammed into his chest, and the boom from the bullet being fired shook the air like thunder. On impact, the magic bullet exploded into chains; it was a binding shot, knocking Issei off his bike, off the bridge, and into the river below. Once Issei's chain-wrapped body hit the water, he was carried away by the heavy waves. In less than a minute, Issei was dead, and once his heart stopped beating, the chains created by the magical bullet vanished, leaving no trace of what really happened.

Once Issei was long dead, a young man wearing a hooded cloak stepped out of a shadowed alleyway. The cloaked young man stared at Issei's fallen bike. 'Sorry about this, Issei, but I didn't get reborn into this world, kill a bunch of monsters, and travel across the world to play sidekick to you.' He thought. He then lifted the silver revolver in his right hand and recalled it, causing it to vanish. 'I made it just in time to kill you off right before canon. Before Rias notices you and realizes you have that sacred gear, no one is going to bat an eye at your death. You'll just be another poor soul drowned in a rainstorm, sad but common.'

It was a beautiful day as the young man, still wearing his hooded cloak, made his way to Kuoh Academy; he could hear ambulance sirens in the distance heading towards the river as he neared the school. He ignored them in favor of entering the school's gates, but a shiver went down his spine the moment he did. 'Those are some heavy wards.' The young man thought as he kept walking. The day he woke up in this world, he gained many things, including the ability to sense the supernatural. With this ability could sense the devils within the schools grounds, he couldn't tell who was who, or even how many, it was more like a blob of energy at the edges of his vision. 'Good, they're here.'

The young man could sense two masses of supernatural energy on school grounds, one from the main school building and one from a separate building around the back. Without missing a beat, he ignored the main building and headed for the building to the back.

The red-headed Rias Gremory yawned as she leaned back in her chair. "No sleeping on the job, my King." Akeno, Rias's black-haired queen, said while placing a steaming cup of tea on the table.

"But Akeno!" Rias whined. "Sona is forcing me to do all this paperwork to register our club for another year. Gah, she's a true devil." Rias exclaimed, then slumped onto her desk.

"Oh, it's not that bad-" Akeno started to say but stopped when she and Rias sensed someone right outside their door.

Three solid knocks against the wooden door echoed around the room. The air felt tense, but Rias nodded to her queen and watched as Akeno approached the door. The dark-haired queen opened the door in a smooth, practiced motion and immediately locked eyes with the cloaked, hooded figure standing at the door. She could only stare into his intense brown eyes as everything below them was covered by a deep red bandanna wrapped around his face.

"Can I help you?" Rias asked while trying to be polite. She could sense it, the trace of a sacred gear. If the sacred gear was as powerful as she was feeling, she didn't want to burn any bridges by being rude.

The cloaked figure stepped into the room and turned to the coat stand next to the door. "Sorry, one second, this stupid cloak is killing me," the figure said in a male voice.

'Spanish? Sounds young too.' Rias thought once the figure spoke. While the cloaked man's words came out of his mouth in Spanish, Rias's natural ability to understand all languages instantly translated them to devil's tongue.

"I hate this thing. I wouldn't wear it, but my normal clothes stand out too much." Undoing a few buttons around the neck, the young man pulled out of the cloak and revealed something Rias wasn't expecting.

'What in the name of the four Satans? Is he some kind of bandito?' Rias thought as she took in the young man before her. Messy black hair, sharp eyes, bandanna-covered face, a black and white poncho with rune-like designs was thrown over his body to hide two bandoleers diagonally crossing his chest, there was a wide-brimmed sombrero on his back hanging from the string around his neck but what really caught Rias's eye were the pair of twin silver revolvers hanging from the hostlers on his hips. 'He looks like one of those villain banditos from that old west anime I watched last month. From bandanna down to his jeans and boots. Is he my age? No, from his looks, he has to be seventeen.' Rias thought when he removed the bandanna to reveal a young, ruggedly handsome face, only marred by a thick scar across the bridge of his nose and down his cheek.

"My name is Luis Alvarez, but you can call me Pancho," Pancho said with a wide smile. He made his way towards Rias's desk, and Akeno followed behind him.

"Pancho?" Rias couldn't help but ask.

"Just a nickname. You can say it runs in the family." Pancho replied. He then took a seat in front of Rias's desk.

"Well, Pancho, my name is Rias Gremory, President of the Kuoh Academy Occult Research Club. This is Akeno, my assistant." Once Rias introduced her, Akeno gave Pancho a small wave and a small smile. Now, what can I do for you?" she asked politely while lacing her fingers together.

"Oh? You speak Spanish? That's great. I'm afraid my Japanese isn't too good, but I do know English," Pancho said with a grin. "But, as for what you can do for me, well, can you tell me what type of supernatural creature you are? I'm still debating whether or not I should kill you," Pancho said bluntly. He had no plans to kill them, of course; it was all part of his cover story.

Rias slightly flinched at Pancho's words, but hid her reaction well. "You want to kill us? I'm sorry, but have we wronged you?" She asked with a cute slight head tilt. She was already trying to use her looks to her advantage.

"Don't misunderstand. When I kill, it's never personal or revengeful. I'm simply a traveling hunter. I travel around hunting monsters." Pancho started to explain. "I came to this school because I sensed powerful supernatural beings here. So I just wanted to check it out, see if you were dangerous enough for me to hunt."

"Oh?" Rias leaned back and crossed her arms under her breast while Akeno stood off to the side, ready in case Pancho suddenly attacked. "So what do you think? Are we going to be put on your hunting list?" She asked sweetly.

"Hmm, nah, I normally only kill actual monsters. You know werewolves, man eating plants, killed a chupacabra once, so I wouldn't feel right attacking a pair of school girls. But I ask again, what exactly are you two?" Pancho asked with a smile.

Hearing his question, Rias briefly turned to Akeno, then nodded and turned back to Pancho. "We are devils," Rias announced while revealing her black devil wings. She watched closely to gauge Pancho's reaction, but he showed none. His smile didn't even twitch.

"Devils, huh? Well, that makes sense." Pancho says while his eyes obviously trail down Rias's body and back up to her eyes. "I would definitely commit a few sins to get your sinful body in my bed for a night. You devils really know how to tempt humans."

Rias's eyes widened at Pancho's words, completely caught off guard by what he said. Before Rias could reply, Akeno placed a hand over her mouth to hide her smile. "Oh my, fufufu~" she giggled. A faint blush grew on Rias's face as she turned to glare at her best friend.

Pancho spoke up as Rias glared at Akeno. "But I must admit, you guys don't seem very devil-like, sitting here drinking tea and doing paperwork. I suppose I have no reason to hunt you." Pancho explained with a sigh. "For now, at least." He finished with a smile.

Taking a deep breath to reset herself, Rias turned back to Pancho. "So, you said you're a traveling hunter? May I ask where you are from?"

"Mexico, I know I'm far from home, but I've always wanted to come to Japan. It's a bit embarrassing, but I love anime." As Pancho explained, he pulled out a limited edition 'Drag So-Ball' key chain from his pocket. "It's been a great trip so far. I even managed to win this from a random gacha machine on my way into town."

Rias's face lit up the moment he mentioned anime, just like he knew it would. This was also part of his cover story. "You like anime too?! I love Drag So-Ball!" Rias exclaimed while exactly sitting up in her seat. "Oh! Oh! What's your favorite arc? Mine is-"

"Now, now, my King," Akeno quickly spoke up, interrupting Rias. "That paperwork is due today, so we don't have time for one of your ten-hour cartoon talks."

"C-Cartoon!?" Rias shouted while turning to Akeno.

"Ha, who knew devils were so funny." Pancho laughed while standing up. "Here, you can have it."

"Wha-Really?" Rias asked while reaching out and taking the key chain.

"Of course, I plan on staying here in Kuoh. So take this as a token of peace." Pancho explained.

"You plan on staying in Kuoh? May I ask why?" Rias asked.

Pancho gave Rias his best smile. "I just met the most beautiful girl in the world; I wouldn't be a man if I packed up and moved on."

Once again, Rias was caught off guard by Pancho's words, and Akeno placed a hand over her mouth to hide her smile. "Oh my, fufufu~" she giggled once more.

"I was only joking. I was planning on staying in this town before I met you," Pancho said. "I have the ability to sense the supernatural. It's not like a radar but more like a feeling. I feel like this town is going to be a perfect monster hunting spot for me." Pancho explained with a half-truth. He did have a weak ability to sense monsters, but more importantly, he saw the DxD show in his past life.

Clearing her throat, Rias tried to look professional once more. "If you do plan on staying in town, then there are some things you must know and some rules you must obey."

'God, I'm so glad I was reborn into this world.' Pancho thought as he looked at Rias. The anime did not do her justice. 'I'm sorry again, Issei, but I will be the protagonist of this story. Oh, and just like you always shout, Rias's boobs belong to me!'

A/N: Just a bit of fun I thought up. I have a question that totalllitlyy~ may or may not be related to future chapters of this story. But if you had to pick between the following fallen angels- Raynare, Kalawarner, Mittelt, who do you wish survived canon to see more of in the story?
