It was a dark place. There weren't a lot of laws in the kingdom of Auradon. This wasn't surprising considering that it was ruled by evil. The thing was despite the tyranny, the nation was thriving. Most people accepted the rule of the king and queen: Hades and Maleficent. The two of them were the most powerful beings with the king being a literal god. No one sought to challenge him. There had been some challengers in the past, but they were all banished to the Isle of the Lost. It was the place for the would-be heroes who dared to challenge the king. No one could leave the Isle due to a magical barrier and no magic would work on there either.
Of course, Hades was not entirely the bad person that everyone made him out to be. He was a loving father to his daughter Mal. In fact, he was even considering returning to the Underworld in order to leave her in charge of the kingdom. Of course, he would need to know that she was fit to be a ruler in order to do that first. She was still only 15 years old and thus hadn't even fully matured into her immortality yet. While she had inherited some magic from her mother, he wasn't sure if she possessed all of her powers. He decided to call her to the throne room in order to let her know his potential choice. She walked inside wearing her royal purple dress with her black tiara on her head.
Mal's POV
"Mal, please take a seat." Dad declared.
"What is this about?" I asked. "I was just about to place a curse on Gaston for his latest dish being terrible."
"And while we appreciate your initiative, your father and I something important to tell you." Mom told me.
"What is it?" I questioned. Though they were the most powerful beings in the world, I wasn't really interested in what they had to say. I enjoyed being a princess but it did feel like things were missing at times. I never really felt challenged. I didn't just want to be a princess. It was kind of boring.
What was the point of being evil when everyone mostly did what you said. I didn't even think I would curse Gaston, even though the latest dish at his tavern was not up to his usual standards. To truly find joy in being evil, you would need someone to challenge you. There wasn't anyone who was on the side of good around. Things would need to change around here in order to make it less boring. Of course I didn't know how that would happen considering that all those who claimed to be good were on the Isle of the Lost. If I was Queen, I would change things.
"I have been thinking of returning to the Underworld in order to rule there." Dad stated. I was a little bit shocked. I didn't know why he would want to be surrounded by dead people.
"Why do you want to do that?" I asked. I knew that I did not want to go there. Despite being the heiress to the Underworld, I had never been there myself. The main reason was Dad never wanted to leave because he felt that someone else might try to seize the throne. I had never been outside of Auradon. "Not to mention, someone else would try to take over if you left."
"That could only happen if a successor was not named first." He told me. "And I have to have my successor in mind."
I couldn't help but wonder who he thought was capable of leading the king as well as he was. I also didn't want anyone else to be in charge because I wasn't sure what would happen to me because I didn't want to go to the Underwood. I was still in school and I didn't want to leave any of my friends. I also had a girlfriend, even if she could be a little bit hard to handle at times. I could say that I was definitely not on board with his idea and I hoped that he would listen.
"By that he means that you will become queen." Mom declared. Now that was an interesting idea that I had never considered. I was a little bit surprised that he wanted me to be in charge, but I had an idea for what to do. I hadn't considered that I would ever be queen considering both of my parents were immortal and there was no easy path to succession.
"Well in that case, I already have something that I want to change here." I declared as I put my hands together. I couldn't help but wonder if they would even let me make a proclamation so early into my reign.
"And what would that be?" Dad responded.
"I want to open up Auradon Prep to some of the children of the Isle of the Lost." I stated.
"Absolutely not. Those kids are just a bunch of goody-goodies." Mom responded.
"They're parents are. They shouldn't have to suffer for the sins of their parents. I believe that we can teach them our ways." I stated. There was also the chance that some of them could try to rebel which would lead us to having a fulfilling battle that I had always dreamed of. My parents got to deal with the exciting parts of being evil, but I was just stuck with the boring parts. I had purposely chosen the ones who I thought would be most likely to challenge our rule. "I've decided to do this in phases though, and I want to begin with four of them."
"And who are the four children that you plan on bringing here?" Dad responded. I knew that my mother would not be happy with one of the choices, but I felt like it was a good idea because I had a plan.
"I have selected the son of Cinderella, the daughter of the Fairy Godmother, the son of Belle and the Beast, and finally the daughter of Aurora." I explained.
"Absolutely not!" Mom retorted. "There is no way that I am letting that tart's child come here."
"Honey, I think she has a great idea." Dad responded. "And besides if she is going to be the queen, it's not up to us either."
I smiled. I would need to have something start the letter. I was actually considering writing it myself. Someone would need to deliver it, but I would make sure that it made its way to the Isle of the Lost.
Audrey's POV
I walked outside to meet up with my friends Ben, Jane, and Chad. We lived in the Isle of the Lost, which was essentially a prison just off the coast of the land of Auradon. Despite the fact that we were trapped there, it really wasn't that bad of a place to live. Everyone liked to help each other out for the most part. I also had hope that someday we would be able to be free of the Isle and everyone would be happy. I met up with up with them as we walked down the streets.
You know the bed feels warmer sleeping here alone
You know I dream in color and do the things I want
Think you got the best of me, think you had the last laugh
Bet you think that everything good is gone
Think you left me broken down, think I'll come running back
Baby you don't know cause you're dead wrong
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes a fighter, footsteps even lighter
Doesn't mean I've over cause you're gone
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger just me myself and I
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
Thanks to you I've got a new thing started
Thanks to you I'm not the brokenhearted
Thanks to you I'm finally thinking about me
You know in the end the day you left was just my beginning
In the end
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
What doesn't kill you makes a fighter, footsteps even lighter
Doesn't mean I've over cause you're gone
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger just me myself and I
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger stand a little taller
Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone
I'm not alone
From there, we were told that we all needed to head home. That was to my family's inn. I thought it was a little on the nose that my mother who had been given the name Sleeping Beauty owned such a place. Apparently, there was something important that we needed to know about.
"What's going on?" I asked as we entered. All of our parents were there for some reason.
"We've just received a letter from Auradon." Mom declared.
"Why would Auradon send anything here?" Jane questioned.
"The four of you have been invited to attend Auradon Prep." Chad's mom explained.
"How do we know that isn't just some of sort trap to kill all of us?" Chad retorted. Well one reason was if they wanted to kill us, they could just come here.
"The new queen seems to want to open her arms for you to attend." Ben's dad explained.
"Well I think that it sounds like it could be fun and we all have mentioned how we wanted to get off of this island as well." Ben commented. While I did want to get off of the island, this did seem a little suspicious. Also I hadn't heard that there was a new queen, but we were usually the last ones to get the news from Auradon. Our technology wasn't the best and we didn't have the magic that they had there either. It would also give me the chance to explore outside of the Isle for a chance.
"There's also something else that you need to know." Jane's mother told us. "Long ago before Auradon was overtaken by evil, I used to be a powerful spellcaster but when we lost, they took my wand away. If you can get it back, we may be able to break the spell over the Isle and take back the kingdom."
That I really wasn't sure about. It sounded like it would be pretty dangerous and I didn't know if things needed to be changed like that. Even though the place was called the Isle of the Lost, I didn't really feel lost.
"What if we don't want to go?" Chad asked.
"The four of you are going." His mother told us. So it seemed like we wouldn't have a choice in the matter. I would probably need to start packing but I didn't even know what I would be able to bring. I was also a little bit scared. The queen of Auradon had tried to kill my parents and even though my father had been able to awaken her from her sleeping curse, they had still been defeated. I actually wasn't sure why everyone was banished instead of being killed but maybe they figured it was easier.
I started to pack. We wouldn't have a lot of time and I didn't really know what to expect. I was feeling a lot of different emotions as I waited for this to happen. At least I was going to have my friends with me. I didn't know if I would be able to do something like this without the three of them. I didn't know if we would be able to get the wand back, but maybe it would at least be worth a try. I watched as the royal limo pulled up ready to take us to Auradon.
So I kind of thought of this idea of what would happen if the villains had won. The main of this is going to be Mal and Audrey which I think isn't explored enough. Mal is played by Meaghan Martin and Aurora is played by Rashida Jones. Please don't forget to review.
