"Alex, please!"

"No."

"Alex, come on! Just to practice?"

"Absolutely not." The brunette can't help but roll her eyes as her sister dramatically throws herself on her lap.

"Alex, please, not having a broom is torture!"

The older Danvers sister looks down at the younger blue eyed girl with a smile. "Kara, your new broom will arrive right on time for the tryouts. Mom and Dad just want you to learn that you should use that broom whenever you want."

Kara sits up with a pout and rests against the cushion of their cart. "That tree came out of nowhere…"

"Sure it did. Relax, okay. You'll have a new broom in a month. Now go change into your robes, we are almost there."

Kara smiles as she grabs her clothes and exits the cart she and her sister were sharing. Kara was so excited to be returning to Hogwarts this year. Especially that everyone thought Hogwarts would be closed after the Chambers of Secrets were opened. Luckily, Harry Potter and his friends were able to save that first year and close the chamber.

This year was going to be epic for Kara because she was going to try out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. After seeing Potter, a 2nd year at the time like Kara, become the youngest seeker, why couldn't see join? All of last year she trained with Alex and their friend James who are now 5th years and both key players on the Gryffindor team. Alex is a beater and the only girl who's been strong enough to handle the position. James is a chaser and so far the top scorer on the team. Other players and the Wesley twins who alternate between chaser and beater, and Harry as the seeker.

Oliver Wood graduated last year so this is the first year Alex would be team Captain. Kara was excited for her sister but also nervous. She knows Alex, she wasn't going to make the tryout process easy for anyone interested in joining. Especially that Slytherin was too close in beating them last year. However, the young Danvers sister knew she would make the team, no one can fly a broom like she can. This year, she will be Gryffindors newest Chaser.

Kara changes into her robes and starts walking back towards her cart when she hears a familiar voice call her.

"Kara!" She turns around with a wide smile when she sees her best friend, Winn Schott, Hufflepuff 3rd year.

"Winn! How was your summer break? I didn't get any letter from you, what happened?"

The brunette boy sighs, "Well Mufungo hurt his wing so he was out of commission all summer. I'm sorry I didn't reach out. My summer was great though, mom took me to Canada and it was beautiful! How was your summer vacation?"

Kara links her arm with Winn's and walks towards her cart with him, "My summer was fun! Mom and Dad took us to Virginia to this cool Amusement Park called Busch Gardens and a water park called Water Country. Then we went to Williamsburg, Alex got to load and shoot a cannon so you can already imagine how happy she was."

"That sounds like it should be illegal, your sister should never have weapons that close to her."

Kara giggles, "I agree with you there. I'm happy to be back though, I'm trying out for the team this year."

"I know you are going to make the team. No one flies like you do, it's like you were born flying or something." Winn smiles as they reach the cart to find Alex and James trying to catch a chocolate frog and failing.

"Close the-" Alex groans as the frog leaps out of the cart and disappears down the hallway. "Damn it."

Kara shakes her head with a smile as she sits beside her sister and Winn next to James. The four enter their usual flow of conversation and banter as Hogwarts approaches in the distance, neither aware of how the year was about to change for them.

All of the students are gathered in the Great Hall sitting with their houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. The teachers sat on the upper level making small talk while they waited for Dumbledore to begin his introduction speech. Kara glances around the Great Hall looking at each house and noticing some familiar faces. Over at the Hufflepuff table, her best friend Winn was speaking to a girl she believes is named Nia, another 3rd year. Her eyes shift over to the Slytherin house table and she can't help the annoyance she feels towards the house. At the end of the table hollering and acting childish are the bullies of Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy, a 3rd year, Andrea Rojas, a 4th year, and Mike Elis, but everyone calls him Mon-El. Mon-El is a 3rd year and Kara's ex boyfriend. When Mon-El looks over to see Kara looking at their table, he smiles softly and waves, but the brunette turns away and fixes her glasses. The breakup between them wasn't pretty and every time Alex sees the boy, she threatens to jinx him. The ring leader of all of them was Lex Luthor, a 5th year. He was Captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team. The Luthors' name held more power than the Malfoys in the wizarding world. Lex feels as though he runs Hogwarts and not Professor Dumbledore. The Luthors are not people you want to have any problems with… well maybe not all the Luthors.

Kara's gaze moves over to the Ravenclaw table and finds the other Luther attending Hogwarts sitting with a book in hand, Lena Luthor. Lena is Lex's half sister through his father. Even though she bore the Luthor name, the 3rd year wasn't like her brother. She truly is an enigma to everyone except her best friend, Samantha Arias, another 3rd year. Lena is only ever found speaking to Sam, Lex, or a professor and it's usually Professor Snape.

Kara tilts her head as she tries to read the title of the book the Luthor is reading. Dumbledore's sudden clapping of his hands causes Lena to jerk her head up and to her surprise, Kara Danvers was staring right at her. Lena keeps her cold stare and raises a questioning brow at the blue eyed girl. Kara's eyes go wide and she quickly turns around to look at Professor Dumbledore.

Professor Dumbledore spoke about the new professor for this semester. The new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is Remus Lupin.

"Finally, on a more serious note, at the request of the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the Dementors of Azkaban. Until such a time Sirius Black is captured, the Dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. I am assured that their presence will not disrupt our day to day activities. However, a word of caution, Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and those who get in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and everyone of you. Do not give them a reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving…" The Great Hall was silent as the student body took in Dumbledore's words. "But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light."

With that the feast of food appears before everyone and the students are back to their carefree joyful selves. Kara starts to fill her plate up with food when she feels on her. Looking to her right, she finds Mon-El looking her way. With a sigh, she turns to look in the opposite direction to find both Lena and Samantha watching her and speaking low amongst each other. Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Kara focuses on her food in front of her and thinks about her second serving.

It was around 10pm when Kara said goodnight to Alex and James and headed up to her room. As she was fixing up her bed to get ready to sleep, she noticed some of the girls gathered around a newspaper whispering not so quietly.

"What are you guys reading about?"

One of the girls, Lucy Lane, looks up and shows Kara the headline of the newspaper. Kara is taken aback by how crazy the screaming man being restrained looks on the cover.

"Is that…?"

"Sirius Black, yeah. They say he was a servant to 'you know who' and even gave up names of people who ended up getting murdered."

"Oh my gosh.. And they think he'll come to Hogwarts? Why?"

"My guess? Potter. Since he got here, things have been a bit crazy. Maybe Black wants him dead because of what happened to 'you know who."

"Enough Lucy, seriously don't you all have something better to do then to gossip? It isn't Harry's fault a deranged man escaped from prison, it's Azkabans fault. Black is a criminal and dangerous and we all should be cautious like Dumbledore said. Now, we have classes in the morning so I suggest we all get ready for bed." The voice of Hermione Granger grabs the attention of everyone. The star student didn't even look up from her book as she addressed the group.

"How- when did you get here?" Lucy asks, confused.

"I've been here the whole time."

"Whatever…" The girls disperse and start to get ready to call it a night. Kara smiles as she climbs into the bed next to Hermione, "Nice necklace Hermione."

Hermione smiles at Kara and tucks the necklace in her shirt, "Thank yo Kara. You have a goodnight."

"Goodnight." Kara looks out the window and allows her mind to wander freely as sleep consumes her.

The first day of classes were going great for Kara. So far she had two classes with Winn, one with his friend Nia who was really nice. Unfortunately, she had a few classes with Mon-El but she did her best to act like he didn't exist. The Gryffindor student was sitting in the library when Alex dropped a heavy textbook, startling her.

"Jeez! Any louder Alex? We are in a library."

Alex chuckles as she sits beside her, "Couldn't resist. How have your classes been so far?"

"Pretty good, I only have Defense Against the Dark Arts left. Excited to see what Professor Lupin has in store this year."

"I'm sure anything beats Sir dumb Lockhart."

Kara giggles as she goes back to her notes. After a few moments of silence, Kara notices her sister hadn't written anything down. Instead, Alex is looking over to a table where a few girls were sitting and giggling. Kara rolls her eyes and nudges her sister.

"This isn't flirting grounds Alex, some of us are here to study."

Alex winks at whichever girl had her attention before looking at Kara. "Don't be a party pooper Kara. I'm just being friendly, plus you know me. I'm a free soul. No one can tie me down. I'm like that movie Dad showed us last year, The Untouchables. I'm Un-."

Alex stops speaking as Samantha Arias catches her eye. Sam walks by their table with a smile and stops right in front of Alex. "Hey Alex, hey Kara."

Kara smiles politely, "Hey Sam." Alex doesn't speak, just stares at Sam who tilts her head with a smirk. Kara tries her best to save her sister so she steps on her foot causing her to wince.

"He-hey Sam. What's up?"

Sam giggles and lightly shrugs, "I just wanted to say congrats on making Captain. I worry for my house team but maybe we'll give you a run for your money this year."

Alex scoffs with a smile, "Sorry, but that won't be happening. This year Kara will be joining the team and no one can stop the Danvers sisters' magic."

Sam raises a brow with a smile as she looks over at Kara, "You are trying out this year? What position?"

Kara smiles shyly, "Chaser."

Before Sam can respond, she spots her best friend walking by and grabs her by the arm. The tug shocks Lena but she quickly regains her composure when she sees it's Sam. "What?"

"Lena, did you hear the news? The other Danvers is joining the Quidditch team. Looks like Ravenclaw won't be winning any games this year."

Lena raises a brow as she looks over at Kara, "Congrats."

Kara clears her throat feeling a bit flustered at Lena's tone of voice and intense gaze, "I-I still have to try out."

"We've seen you fly Kara, you'll make the team." Sam says, earning a side glance from Lena.

"You've seen my fly?"

Sam nods, "Your incident with our famous Whooping Willow was the talk of the school."

Kara blushes with embarrassment at the mention of the incident that left her with a broken broom and in the infirmary with a broken arm.

"Kara has always had a soft spot for magical creatures and there was one stuck on the Willow."

"What was in the tree?" Lena asks now interested in the topic at hand.

"It was a bowtruckle… got separated from his actual home." Lena smiles for a split second and Kara is captivated by the sight. She wants nothing more than to see her smile again… it was beautiful.

"You were able to see a tiny bowtruckle on that tree? What do you have, x-ray vision?" Sam asks with a giggle.

"X-Ray vision?" Lena asks, confused.

"It's an ability a superhero can have in comic books." Kara answers.

"What's a comic book?"

Sam smiles, "Lena here doesn't know much about the muggle world besides what is in our textbooks, she's never been either."

Kara smiles as Lena rams her elbow into her friend's side causing her to swat her away with a laugh, "A comic book is a book with drawings used to explain the story. Usually multiple comics play out one storyline since they are rather short. And you have two big companies, Marvel and DC, who's comics are about superheroes and their abilities and how they use them to defeat the bad guys and save the world and–"

A hand covers Kara's mouth stopping her ramble and it is of course Alex's hand. "Excuse my sister, she tends to ramble when she's nervous or geeking out over something."

Kara can't stop the blush that consumes her face and she looks down embarrassed. "Sorry.."

"Don't apologize. Thank you for the information, I hope to read a comic one day. Sounds interesting." Lena smiles at the blue eyed girl.

"Well we have to get to our next class, see you guys around." Sam says with a wave and smile, "See you Alex."

"Yeah, see you soon." Alex smiles and watches as the girls walk away. Once the coast is clear, she wacks Kara's arm, "I'm in love."

"Ow! Watch it" Kara rubs her arm, "You sure about that, Miss Untouchables?"

"Oh, I'm sure. Samantha Arias has got me without a love potion. You think she's into me? What am I saying, of course she's into me."

Kara shakes her head with a smile as she gathers her books, "Whatever you say. I have to get to class, am I seeing you after?"

"I have to see McGonagall first, so I'll probably see you at dinner." Kara nods and waves as she heads to her last class. When Kara reaches the large classroom, she can instantly tell the Professor hasn't arrived yet. Most of the students were walking and talking amongst friends, only a few had chosen a desk. She notices a few familiar faces, Harry Ron and Hermione from her house were seated towards the middle. Two seats behind Harry and Ron was Draco and Crabbe, to their left was Mon-El and Goyle. Behind Hermione was Lena and Sam, unfortunately for Kara Winn had this class at another time of the day so he wasn't present. Kara sees Hermione sitting by herself since Harry and Ron were paired off like usual. She walks up to the brunette and smiles, "Hey Hermione, can I sit with you?"

Hermione looks up from her textbooks and smiles, "Of course Kara. Have a seat." Kara sits besides the girl and waves over to Harry and Ron who wave right back. Watching the interaction closely was Lena, who caught the eye of Harry Potter. She raises a challenging brow towards the boy who lived.

"Need something Potter?"

Kara looks over her shoulder looking at Lena and she's a bit surprised by the cold stare she's giving the boy. You could almost hear venom in her voice.

"Nothing, but I could ask you the same Luthor."

Kara could see the moment Lena's jaw tightens but before Lena says anything, Sam leans forward and waves a piece of parchment paper. "Okay there, hold the fire. We come in peace." She tries to lightly joke and places her hand on Lena's bicep causing the girl to instantly relax. Lena leans back in her seat and her eyes shift over to Kara. Kara holds her gaze with a curious expression. What was the problem between Lena and Harry? However, Kara's train of thought and gaze is broken when she feels a soft hand on her back, "Don't pay mind Kara." Hermione's voice makes Kara turn towards her and give a small nod. Professor Lupin emerges from his office at the moment but Kara could feel eyes burning holes into her back for the rest of class.

"Hello everyone and welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts. I am Professor Lupin. Today for our first class I want to review exactly what you learned last year." The students chuckle knowing they barely learned anything last year from Professor Lockhart and Lupin always knew this. Their first class went by smoothly and fast, Lupin seemed to grab everyone's attention. When the class ends, Kara thinks it's a perfect chance to turn around and ask Lena if she was okay, but as soon as she turns around, she is gone. Sam looks at Kara and smiles softly, "She can be a grouch sometimes, don't sweat it."

"I- I'm not sweating anything."

Sam smirks, "Sure Danvers. Catch ya later." Sam gets up and exits the classroom.

Kara bites her lip as starts to gather her belongings while Hermione speaks to her, "Want to walk back to the common room with us?" Kara nods and follows the trio to their living quarters.

"Hey Harry, what's the tension between you and Lena Luthor?"

Harry shrugs a bit as they maneuver through the halls. "I truly don't know why she dislikes me so much. It all started near the ending of last year."

"Ever since Harry saved the school from that bloody snake-"

"Basilisk Ronald." Hermione interrupts.

"Fine, Basilisk. Ever since then, she's been giving looks and shoulder bumps to Harry any chance she gets. Maybe it has to do with whatever Dumbledore and Lionel Luthor spoke about in the office with you Harry?"

"I did accuse her father of having a part in what happened to Ginny… Still, I don't trust the Luthors or the Malfoys or the Rojas. Even Mon-El, they are all bad news."

Hermione jabs Harry and gives him a look that causes the boy to clear his throat, "Sorry Kara. I know you used to date Mon-El."

"No, it's okay. I see what you mean about certain Slytherin families. Mon-El used to be kind, but now, I don't even recognize him."

"Something tells me I can't trust the Luthors especially after last year. Something is going on, I can feel it." Harry sighs as they reach the common room. "We will see you girls at dinner, yeah?" The girls nod and head up to change. The rest of the evening was filled with talk of the first day of classes and delicious food. Hogwarts was in for a whirlwind of events and none of the students or staff were going to be prepared for it.
