Lorelai was almost ready to leave, she smoothed her dress and slid into her silver high heels. She was just about to grab her purse but jumped at Luke's voice.

"Hey, is there anything I can do to help?"

"What exactly do you think you could do? Fix my makeup? Help choose accessories?"

"Okay, ha ha. I just wanted you to hurry up. I told Buddy and Maisy we'd be there for seven. Wow, I love that dress -"

Lorelai grinned, "it's the one I wore to Liz and TJ's wedding. I thought it would be cute, but it's it too cheesy?"

Realizing she might want to change, he panicked, "Cheesy? You look stunning and it reminds me of the night I never wanted to end."

Lorelai looked at him skeptically, "Loved the Renn Faire that much?"

"Ha, ha. I'm just trying to say you look gorgeous," He kissed her temple. "Can we go?"

Lorelai rolled her eyes, "Yeah, let's go. I'm excited to go back to Sniffy's."

They headed to the car, Lorelai making a show of putting on her silver cardigan and her coat causing Luke to smile at her. The ride passed in a comfortable silence. And as Luke opened the door to the restaurant for her something dawned on him and he sighed. "Oh crap. They're going to bring us champagne!"

"So? You can't pretend to like it for one night?"

His eyes got really wide and he motioned to her stomach, "YOU shouldn't drink."

"Oh Hon, you're so sweet. Just tell them I'm on antibiotics. It's something people won't ask about and they understand that you can't drink."

Luke nodded as he led her to their table, his hand never leaving the small of her back until she sat in the booth.

They shared a wonderful meal, chatted with Buddy and Maisy, ate delicious food, shared glances and touches, it was a perfect date. Lorelai kept expecting Luke to propose. Each time there was a lull in the conversation or when he would change the topic, she thought it was the time he would propose. But it never came. Finally when they were back in the car Luke noticed the quiet was different than the car ride to the restaurant. He gently squeezed her knee. He startled her, so she jumped and then apologized.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah," she tried to shake off her nervous excitement and just enjoy the night.

He parked the truck behind her Jeep.

"Are you coming in?" She asked casually.

"It's only after nine, I'm not ready for the night to be over, are you?"

Her smile softened, "Do you want to watch a movie?"

"Sure, but why don't we sit on the porch for a little bit, the guy on the radio said it might snow."

Moments later Luke was sitting on the porch swing with Lorelai cuddled at his side. She was talking about the last town meeting, about how much fun it will be to tell everyone that they were having a baby, she then went off on more ideas she had for renovating the house.

"So you're okay with us changing the house?" Luke asked.

Lorelai sighed, "I am, I never thought I would be. But the idea of you living in the home you have been repairing for years seems so right, like you should have been here all along." She snuggled closer and kissed his chest.

"I love you Lorelai."

"Mmmm I love you too."

Luke shifted slightly, "I've loved you longer than I ever wanted to admit, probably from the moment I saw you. You are the most amazing woman I've ever known. And the way you are with Rory, well I've felt for years that if I ever were to have kids, I wanted it to be with you. You're such an incredible Mother. I know this wasn't how we planned, that we didn't really plan much, but when you told me you were pregnant, it was the best moment of my life."

He slid off the swing and turned to her on one knee. "Lorelai Victoria Gilmore, will you marry me?" He held out the opened ring box and she gasped.

"It's snowing! Ooooh Luke, it's snowing." She kissed him urgently.

He hummed happily as they kissed until he got his wits about him and gently backed away. He stared at her expectantly.

"What? Come back here and kiss me," she leaned in.

"I would love to kiss you, but do you think you want to answer my question?"

Suddenly realizing what he meant she laughed, taking his face in her hands, "Yes! Of course! Yes, Luke Danes, I'll marry you!"

He wrapped his arms around her as he rose to his feet and they kissed passionately. When they needed air, he rested his forehead against hers, "Do you want to go inside and celebrate, or since it's snowing do you want to go for one of your snow walks?"

She was playing with the curls at the nape of his neck, "You really are perfect, aren't you?"

"Of all the nights of our life, yeah, I want this one to be perfect."

"Well, then let me assure you that snow walks are only really important for the first snow of the season. But on the night where you have asked me to be your wife, took me to the same place we went to on our first date, AND gave me a ring that is BEYOND perfect - after all this, the last thing I want to do with you is walk!"

With that he scooped her into his arms like a groom carrying his bride over the threshold, "Well, then I'll carry you to bed."

XoXoXoXoXo

Rory took a deep breath, plastered on a fake smile and rang the bell at her Grandparents' house. She only had to wait a moment for the maid to open the door and direct her to the living room. Her fake smile melted into a genuine one when she saw her Grandfather reading the paper in his usual seat and her Grandmother nowhere in sight.

"Hi Grandpa, how are you doing?"

Richard rose and smiled, "Rory! How's my favourite Eli doing?
The two embraced and she nodded when he offered her a club soda.

"Things are good. Classes this semester are really interesting and I'm loving the challenge of working at the paper. My editor, Doyle, is tough but fair. He gave me some critique and it's only made me better. How are things at work?"

Richard poured himself a club soda, and reclaimed his seat, "Things at work are okay. They want me to travel more than usual and I put a stop to that. I know it was a sticking point with your Grandmother in the past and she's right, part of owning my own umbrella company means I get to call some of the shots and I get to delegate."

"That's great. So your own company within the old one is working out well?"

"I think since Floyd knows that I am not afraid to leave he's letting me do my thing. I only see him once a month in the department head meeting. And rumour has it his wife is getting ready to leave him so he's been distracted lately."

Rory nodded and then looked over her shoulder, "Where's Grandma?"

Richard checked his watch, "A friend of hers was taken to the hospital, she should be back shortly. She said she would be home for dinner."

Rory took a deep breath, she was close with her Grandpa and hated the tension within the family. Plus she loved her grandparents. Despite Emily's recent despicable move, trying to use Chris to break up her Mom and Luke, Rory believed with everything in her that Emily loved Lorelai and genuinely wanted what was best for her, even if she was misguided on what was best.

"Grandpa, since we're alone, I want to talk to you about the vow renewal and see if we can figure out a way to clear things up between Mom and Grandma."

Richard exhaled, "My Dear, I would love nothing more than to find a way to broker peace between them, but do you really think it's possible? They're both so stubborn."

Rory looked over her shoulder again, making sure that Emily didn't walk in and hear, "I'm not going to get into all the details, because it's not entirely my place. But Mom and Luke recently got back together, and not only are they dating again, they're talking about getting married. Both of them were so miserable when they were apart, I think they both realized that they want to be together and they're at an age where the time to start the next chapter is now. Do you think that Grandma would apologize?"
