The Legacy You Leave

Chapter 40

authors note : I had mixed reactions with the last chapter. Honestly i feel understanding and a level of sadness for them both. The audrey situation really impacted them. And she had let Lucas move in for their kids. Yet these two loved each other. Sharing this bond and friendship. Lucas didn't want to hurt Brooke anymore. And Brooke had alot of feelings. Stay tuned.

Days Later

I found myself not believing that Lucas was serious given the way he could be at times. Saying things with intention without follow through. But as i sat across from him.

In his office. During a less stressful time period for us both during the day. And he pulled out this folder.

Removing papers he had already signed.

My eyes went wide and my heart sank.

I read it over to myself before my gaze locked on him.

"Divorce papers. I'm not sure what to say." Brooke proclaimed.

"You gave up more then you should of had too. I just want to do what's right and fair for once. I don't want to fight."

"I want us to be best friends. To raise our kids."

"To have peace of mind." Lucas explained.

"Have you're lawyer look it over and all you have to do is sign it." Lucas added in.

Brooke felt her stomach twisting in knots.

"Friends." She said softly. As if the word didn't fit.

"We had never just been that." Brooke replied.

They were too tied together. Their bond. Connection so consuming.

Lucas put the divorce papers into a folder. And handed the folder to Brooke.

"Do you want to get lunch?" Lucas offered.

"No. I'm going to take this time for myself." Brooke replied.

Tucking the folder under her arm. As she left the building.

Brooke got to the parking lot. Got into her car.

As she drove towards a nearby burger place.

Got a burger fries and milkshake. She went home.

Taking advantage of the quiet. She went into the kitchen.

And read the papers word for word.

It was what she expected. They would leave with what they came with various legal words seperating their life into different places.

...

Brooke placed the folder back in his home office.

By that time it late and dark. Lucas lingered in the entryway.

His eyes locked on her. She had held on to those papers for hours.

He looked in the folder surprised to see she hadn't signed any of it.

"I thought we had come to an agreement on this." Lucas said.

"It was my fault! I'm taking responsibility for it."

"Why are you acting like it isn't what you want?" Lucas questioned.

Brooke sighed deeply running her hands through her dark locks.

Letting out a frustrated sigh.

"Me saying I needed time and space didn't mean this!" Brooke proclaimed.

"You're throwing us away. You're giving up. That isn't fighting for us.!" Brooke exclaimed.

"I just want and need it to stop Brooke."

"I want you to be happy. I can't keep going around in circles. Hitting the same walls. What do you from me Brooke. I know its complicated and confusing. But i need you to be honest with me please." Lucas said. His voice breaking with emotion.

"Stay." Brooke said softly. Grabbing his face as she kissed him.

Lucas kissed her back. Wrapping her in his arms.

Their kisses full of passion and hunger.

Her eyes feeling his lips on her neck. She let him take her.

She felt her body get pushed against the wall.

Her hands going up his shirt. Their eyes locked on each other.

"Take me upstairs. In our room. In our bed."

He leaned over kissing her hard.

"Lucas." Brooke said softly. Her body aching for him.
