"Cinder, are you even going to eat?" Ryan asks Cinder as he shoves another burger in his mouth, trying to beat Kashi at the 'burger-race'. Cinder snaps out of their current state, which was just bouncing up and down.
"Oh, yes, of course Ryan!' Cinder says, as they gawk at their plate full of colors, and then grabs the Dorito burger, staring at it before taking a bite.
Lindo sighs, wishing she could see. It was only about six days until she could, but waiting for sight was hard.
As Kashi and Ryan argue over who could eat more burgers, Lindo taps Cinder on the shoulder, as she could hear Kash mumble "Be grateful I even gave you a head start, Ryan"
"Hey, what's it like to see?" Lindo quietly says to Cinder, trying to not sound jealous.
"Well, the machine does hurt quite a bit, but after that, it's great! All the colors look much more, how do I say it, alive than I remember!" Cinder explains, sounding completely awestruck.
"It sounds wonderful..." Lindo whispers to no one in particular.
"I am not a baby!" Ryan suddenly yells at Kashi in a funny tone, bursting out in laughter. "That's a lie! You're the biggest baby to have ever babied!" Kash yells back jokingly, slamming his hands on the table as he stands up slightly, causing the entire table to shake.
"Could you both just shut u-!" Polly starts to yell at them, before Kashi shoves a french fry into her mouth, making her quiet.
"Kash, she could've choked on that fry" Cinder says, sighing. "What's a fry?" Lindo asks, with the dumbest smile on her face, as Polly face palms at the situation.
"French fries, are batonnet or allumette-cut deep-fried potatoes of disputed origin from Belgium or France. They are prepared by cutting potatoes into even stri-" Tolli starts, as Lindo powers him off before he starts rambling on too much.
"So it's a potato, got it" Lindo mumbles.
"Don't worry, Cinder. She can't choke because she's a girl!" Ryan jokingly exclaims to them. "That doesn't even make sense!" Polly says to Ryan, her head resting on her head.
With a quick shake of her head Lindo gets up from the table, grabbing Tolli and powering him on. "I need to go to the bathroom." She quickly says, half to Tolli and half to the group at the table.
"Oh alright!" Cinder says, suddenly changing from there concerned voice back to there bubbly and hyper voice. "Don't get lost." They say, which starts to echo in Lindos head.
Lindo nods her head as Tolli starts to give directions, "take a step backwords, then turn left and start walking." He says, his robotic voice sounding very happy despite the fact Lindo had force powered him off earlier.
"Got it.." Lindo mumbles under her breath as she does what Tolli says and starts to walk, waiting till she was out of hearing range of the group, where she suddenly stops. "Actually, I would like to go to Doctor J's office." She said softly.
With a small whir, Tolli changed course, giving Lindo a new set of instructions. After a moment of walking Lindo found herself outside of Doctor J's office. "Well, open the door." Tolli says in an annoyed tone.
"I'm not going inside." Lindo whispers to Tolli, her voice staying as quiet as possible as she puts her ear up the door. The sound of rustling papers could be heard inside along with the sound of two men speaking with Doctor J.
"We need to cut the production of many things, since the government took our funding, we haven't had as much money." The one man said, his voice slightly muffled by the thick door.
After a moment of silence the other man spoke up, "It would only be some of the smaller projects-" he starts to say in a soft voice before getting cut off by Doctor J.
"We won't need to cut anything, very soon it will all be paid for." He says with a bitter laugh that caused Lindos ears to hurt along with her stomach. Suddenly a sound comes from the opposite direction, a rhythm of steps clacking against the floor along with a whistle of a small tune.
Turning in fear, Lindo grips Tolli as quick as she could, "Cafeteria, Cafeteria." She whispers, her voice suddenly going dry, as she knows that getting caught wouldn't be very good.
"Alrighty sir, take a right." He replies in his very calm voice, not understanding the dire of this predicament. "Twenty steps forward now." He says, a bit too loudly, forcing Lindo to put her hand over his speaker to muffle the noise.
Running down the hallway, fast, yet slow enough so that she didn't run into anything, Lindo was determined not to get caught, listening to Tolli's instructions until she could suddenly hear the voices of her friends, still talking and laughing at each other.
Finding her seat fairly quickly, Lindo sits down. Everyone suddenly stopping talking. "You ok Lindo?" Kashi asks, his voice gentle, yet with concern. "You look like you saw a ghost."
She nods, "I'm ok, just running from the bathroom-" She says, deciding not to tell about what she heard from Doctor J's office. "What were you all talking about?" Lindo asks, wanting to get off the conversation of her.
"Oh, I was just telling about the time that Kashi decided to act like he was the president of cheese land." Ryan says with a laugh before getting interrupted by Polly.
"Which was yesterday, even though we were all there." She says, with a roll of her eyes, yet smirking a bit. "Anyways, Cinder and Lindo, how have you both been? Doctor J's been pushing us to the limits and I just wanted to make sure you're both doing ok."
Cinder bounces up a few more times before replying, "Oh it's been hard, but now that I can see it's amazing!" They say, making Lindo a bit more jealous.
"And I've been.. ok." Lindo replies, her voice definitely making the impression that she was not ok. "It's been rough, but I'll survive." She says.
Suddenly another set of footsteps start to sound, walking into the cafeteria. "Cinder and Lindo?" The stranger asks, his voice sounding stern and commanding, silencing everyone at the table.
Lindo and Cinder suddenly stand up, unsure of why this stranger had just sayed there names. "Yes?" Cinder replies with a half shaky voice, breaking the silence just at the stranger got close enough.
"Your both coming with me, Doctor J needs you." The man says, turning around ready to walk out with the two in tow. The two nod there heads, as they couldn't resist or else something bad might happen. Saying a quick goodbye Lindo and Cinder follow the man to Doctor J's office, to hear something that would change they're lives more than they're lives had already been changed.
