The Legacy You Leave

Chapter 42

I feel myself falling further down your priorities

And I still make excuses for you constantly.

You really came to me for sympathy. I consider you, When I'm not trying to.

"I think getting some air would be good. Come on Win." Oscar insisted.

Winston followed his brother out of the living room.

And towards the entryway. When they left.

Brooke was relieved. She looked to Lucas.

"Why did you bring this up at all to them?" Brooke questioned.

"Would you rather me slowly move out then they wake up and i'm just not there?"

"They are old enough to understand what this means."

"I thought we were on the same page with this. Why are you acting like this isn't what you want?" Lucas questioned.

Brooke sighed deeply. Realizing letting Stella go have a playdate at Rachel and Mouth's daughter was the exactly what needed to be.

She was too young understand or grasp any of this.

"When did you stop loving me?" Brooke questioned.

Lucas stared at her wide eyed. "What kind of question is that?"

"Why would you ask me something like that?" He replied.

"Audrey obviously." Brooke replied.

Lucas looked to her. "Why do you always bring it back there!" He exclaimed.

"Because that is when it all changed. Since then i've been trying to piece what i felt and feel for you and our marriage back together."

"To make it fit and I don't know what to do with the anger and frustration. The fact that despite that I still love you."

"And that feels like i'm waiting to get disappointed and hurt all over by ever letting you back in to my heart." Brooke admitted.

"I regret it. Her. You know that." Lucas replied.

"I never planned or wanted to hurt you Brooke." Lucas insisted.

"It doesn't matter. You can't take back or change it."

"She threatened everything we spent years building and you let her." Brooke proclaimed.

"She kissed me. You are making that bigger then it was and is." Lucas insisted.

"What about you telling her if the situation was different the two of you would of had a chance.?"

"Do you have idea how humilating that was?"

"If Oscar hadn't came back in and caught the two of you what was going to happen?" Brooke questioned.

"I would of made her leave." Lucas replied.

"Why don't I believe you." Brooke replied.

"I'm you're husband. You should know me better then that." Lucas insisted.

"What did she give you that I didn't? Or was it because she was new and exciting. She didn't need you. Care about consequences."

"She was fun and free. Single. Not tied to anything but her job."

"Or did she just stroke you're ego and make you validated as more then Brooke Davis's husband?"

"What was it Lucas?" Brooke pushed.

"Brooke please." Lucas replied.

"Well since you refuse to answer. I'll assume its all of that."

"I'm going to my store." Brooke proclaimed.

"Brooke. How many times do i have to apologize?" Lucas asked.

"You should get to packing. I'm sorry i held you back from living the life you wanted to live." Brooke said. Before she left the home.

Brooke rushed to the car and started to drive.

She sighed deeply. Passing showers were normal this time of year.

...

Awhile Later

The boys were already home. In the living room. Watching something on tv. Sharing snacks from a tray.

By the time Lucas had appeared with Stella after picking her up from her playdate. Stella soon joined them.

The ringing from cellphone took him into his home office.
