Chapter 17: If It Ain't Broke
(Intro)
Rancydd, Swayy and Prankk were rounding up the captured Dragons down in Mid City. Rancydd was loading up one in their carrier while Swayy and Prankk were watching over the other one. "Be quick, you 2. There's a lot of Dragon City Security in this area. And I do not want to end up back in Captain Faier's jail." Rancydd said. Suddenly, a shadow lurked past them, startling them. "What's that?" Prankk asked with fear as he pointed at the shadow. "And that?!" Swayy asked, seeing it on another wall. "Don't tell me we're surrounded." Rancydd asked with worry. "Okay. Then we won't say anything." Prankk said with worry. Suddenly, a large shadow appeared on the wall behind them, surprising them. "What is this?!" Rancydd exclaimed. Just then, the shadow turned out to be from Stewardd playing tricks on them. "What?! Hey!" Rancydd yelled. Just then, Stewardd got out a Light Green gear and flashed a light on their Dragons, scaring them off. "No! That little- Grab him!" Rancydd ordered. But as they ran towards him, Stewardd got out a little green orb and tossed it to the ground, creating a smoke cloud. When they reached the cloud, Stewardd had disappeared. They looked around for him and saw him running down the street. "Hey!" Rancydd exclaimed. As they chased him around a corner, they got bashed by a dumpster that Stewardd pushed down the street. Stewardd ran off, laughing.
Later, the Dragon Eyes returned to Word's citadel. "So, after all these years, Stewardd has returned to Dragon City." Word said. "Wait. Stewardd? Of the Keepers Crew?" Prankk asked. "You know him?" Swayy asked. "It was that little meddler that helped the Boosters escape me after that Omentaur ruined my plan and knocked me out." Word said, remembering the incident in the Wastelands of Loan.
[Flashback]
The giant snake Omentaur Devourer roared as the Muhorta threw her tendril at it. But the Devourer grabbed it and started swallowing the Muhorta whole. "NO! Stop! You're ruining my plan!" Word exclaimed. But the Devourer swatted him, Abandonn, and his Wraith Dragons aside, knocking them out.
[Flashback End]
"I can still hear the roar of that monster in my head. But obviously, Stewardd has come to Dragon City to help the Boosters once again." Word explained. "So, while you were knocked out after that beast ate the Muhorta, you were also beaten…by that little mouse?" Rancydd asked in disbelief. Word glared at him for that. "He must be very powerful for one so…small." Swayy said. "The Keepers Crew have been in hiding since the great Dragon-Human War when they were forced to build their powerful Light Green Draconium technology for trickery and deception." Word explained. "Light Green Draconium technology? Like our Fed Lock Breakers?" Prankk asked. "Yes. But true Keepers' gear contains such higher concentrations of the precious material. Such gear has not been seen in 3,000 years. It can be very dangerous. If I can find the underground hideout of the Keepers, I will put them to work…for me." Word explained. "Scour the city, my Dragon Eyes! Find Stewardd!" He ordered.
Meanwhile, in the temple, Holly and Glyttia were training for the upcoming Dragon Race known as…the Gauntlet. A while back after the Drag Ball tournament, Artha decided to put his siblings through street race training to help improve their Booster skills. Especially for those who weren't Boosters yet. But then, as they leapt over and ducked under several maces that were to be obstacles in the Gauntlet, Holly was hit by one, knocking her off Glyttia. Everyone cringed at how she went down. "Holly, are you okay?!" Moordryd asked with concern as he ran over to help her. "Yeah, I'm alright." Holly said. "Holly, we know you can do better than that." Kitt said. "And duck better than that too." Lance said rudely, making Gwen smack him in the head. "I don't know, guys. Maybe entering the Gauntlet race isn't such a good idea. I don't think I'm ready for the races." Holly said. "Don't talk like that, Holly. You have every bit of racing talent as I do. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't have agreed to start training you to enter the races." Artha said. "I know you mean well, Artha. But I don't think I'm capable of racing like you and Kitt." Holly said. "Not to worry. Not to worry. Try this. It's my new homemade Draconium Channeler Gear." Parmon said, bringing out his new homemade gear. "Holly doesn't need more gear, Professor. She just needs more practice with the gear she has." Kitt said. "Ah, but this will allow Glyttia's mag-lift to form a magnetic spin energy sphere that deflects all objects that enter the electron fringe so the gear takes the hits for you, Holly." Parmon explained as Holly got back on Glyttia. "One question. Does it work?" Holly asked. Parmon glared at that.
Later, Holly and Glyttia, now equipped with the gear, retook the obstacle course. As they came up to the maces, Holly activated the gear and created the protective sphere, protecting her and Glyttia from the maces. "Drac! It actually works! Good job, Parm!" Holly said happily. But suddenly, the gear shorted out and deactivated, causing Holly to get hit and knocked off Glyttia again. Artha and Moordryd rushed over to help her. "So much for taking the hits. Can it take the falls for her too?" Lance asked rudely. This time, Fallon smacked him across the face. "Lance, not helping!" He scolded him. "Oh. Oh dear. Must need tweaking." Parmon said. "Perhaps you might be better off if you worry less about the gear you don't have and more about the skills you do have." Mortis said. "But what if I don't have the skills yet, Mortis?" Holly asked. "Don't say that, Holly. You have every bit of skills as we have. It's in your blood." Artha said.
"Need new things. New things." Stewardd said as he came out of hiding. "Stewardd? Hey, what're you doing here? How'd you find us?" Holly asked. "The Keepers know all about the ancient temple, Holly." Mortis said. "It's true. They helped our ancestor, Arthur." Artha said. "Yes, yes. Here, a gift for a special friend, the new Booster." Stewardd said, holding up a Light Green Draconium Gear, similar to Parmon's, and a pink bracelet. "What are those?" Jessica asked. "That's the ancient Light Green Deflection Armor. And the other is the bracelet of the Mana Booster." Mortis said. "Yes, yes. One named Mortis is right." Stewardd said. Holly took the bracelet and put it on her left wrist. "I…I think I can feel the bracelet's magic. It's flowing into me." She said. "Try activating it." Stewardd said. "Go ahead, Holly. You know what to do." Artha said. Holly looked at her new bracelet, knowing what to do. "RELEASE THE MANA DRAGON!" She shouted. As the bracelet started to glow, she transformed with her body now outfitted in a pink Booster armor. "I…I can't believe it! I'm a Booster!" She cried happily. "Nice armor, kiddo." Kitt said. "Welcome to the team, sis." Artha said. Moordryd just stared in awe at how beautiful Holly looked in her new armor.
"While I approve of Holly becoming the new Mana Booster, I don't think it's wise to use the Light Green Gear. True Keepers' gear has not been seen around Dragon City for 3,000 years." Mortis explained as Holly transformed back to her normal form. "Mortis is right. If Word Paynn or the Gloomix Clan were to see this gear, they would certainly try to acquire it for themselves. And the very person who made it." Artha explained. That made Stewardd stiffen up with worry and fear. "Artha's right, Holly. The Gauntlet is tough enough without you putting a target for Word Paynn and the Gloomix Clan on your back." Kitt said. "Kitt is right. It sounds dangerous." Parmon agreed. "You should listen to them, Holly. I don't want you putting yourself in that kind of danger. Especially since you just became a Booster." Moordryd said with concern. "I appreciate the concern, guys. That's why I've decided that I'll only use it this once. And if Stewardd stays out of sight, nobody will know." Holly said. "Stewardd good at hiding." Stewardd said, suddenly disappearing and then reappearing behind Holly. "Oh, I have a bad feeling about this." Artha said, pinching his temple.
Later, the Penn Quadruplets entered the gear storeroom. "Lance, what are we doing here?" Isla asked. "Drac!" Lance said, eyeing the Light Green Gear in awe. "Oh no. I know what's going on, Lance. We're not supposed to be touching it." Jessica said, getting in Lance's way. "I just want to hold it, see how it feels." Lance said, trying to get past his sister. "Lance, is there seriously something wrong with your hearing or did someone drop you when we were infants?! We're not supposed to touch the gear!" Jessica exclaimed. "It's just a quick touch!" Lance exclaimed, shoving Jessica aside. "Ow!" Jessica cried as she landed on her butt. "That wasn't very nice, Lance." Isla said as she and Kurt helped their sister. But Lance ignored them as he tried to reach for the gear. But he couldn't even grab the tip. "Well, you tried. Let's go before we get in trouble." Jessica said, dusting off her butt. But Lance continued ignoring his siblings as he eyed the mag-control. "I'll just reverse the mag and catch it." He said, reaching for the control. "NO!" Isla, Jessica and Kurt exclaimed as they grabbed Lance to restrain him. "Let go of me, guys!" Lance exclaimed as he struggled to reach for the control. "Stop it, Lance!" Isla exclaimed. "This isn't worth it!" Kurt exclaimed. But despite the struggling, Lance managed to reach the control and turn it to reverse the mag. But as the mag started to reverse, the gear was thrown to the ground, causing a piece to break off. "Scales! I broke it!" Lance cried with worry. "This is what I was trying to tell you, Lance! Why don't you ever listen to us?!" Jessica exclaimed, pushing Lance hard. Kurt pushed up a box and re-magged the gear, putting the broken piece back on. "Artha and Dad are never gonna let you touch anything again if they find out about this!" Isla exclaimed.
Just then, Parmon and Cain walked in. "What's going on? I thought we heard something." Parmon asked, surprising the quadruplets. "What are you kids doing in here?" Cain asked. "Nothing." Lance said, trying to act innocent. Parmon and Cain glared at the youngest Penn with suspicion. "I didn't touch anything!" Lance exclaimed before scampering off. "Hey! Where are you going, Lance?" Parmon asked. "What an odd child." Cain said. "Come on, Jess. Let's get some ice." Isla said. "Ice? For what?" Parmon asked. "Lance just pushed me hard and now I think I got a small bruise on my butt." Jessica said before leaving with Isla and Kurt following her. "Geez, I knew Lance was odd, but I never figured him to actually push his own sister." Cain said. But Parmon forgot all about the quadruplets and turned his attention to the Light Green Gear. "Whoa. Would you look at that? Smashing piece of work. Just smashing." He said. "Yeah, you're right." Cain said. But as Parmon took the gear, the piece Lance broke fell off, causing them to gasp. "Oh no! But not that kind of smashing!" Parmon cried. "Oh, Holly's gonna think we broke it on purpose so they can't race! What do we do?" Cain asked with worry. Just then, Parmon looked over to his homemade gear and a can of light green paint. "Aha." He said, getting an idea.
He painted his homemade gear to make it look like Holly's gear. "Perfect. My homemade Deflection Gear will do nicely for now. Then we can fix the real gear and replace it at the track tomorrow." Parmon said. "I don't know, Parmon. Should we really be doing this? I mean, I worry for Holly as much as Moordryd does." Cain said. "Don't worry, Cain. Holly's gonna do great. Artha's been training her really hard for this race." Parmon assured. "I sure hope you're right." Cain said.
Unknown to them, Rancydd, Swayy and Prankk were watching the stables from the rooftops with their binoculars. They spotted Parmon and Cain exiting the storeroom with the gear. "Hey, take a look at this, guys. Light Green Gear. With the Penn brats and a traitor, Cain, no doubt. Tomorrow, during the Gauntlet competition, we'll take that gear." Rancydd explained. "But Mr. Paynn wants Stewardd." Prankk objected. "And I want that gear!" Rancydd snapped, scaring Prankk. "We'll substitute a decoy in its place, one that's rigged to backfire. We'll win the Gauntlet competition and then we'll find that little mouse, Stewardd. We'll have a little fun and Master Paynn will be more than pleased."
A while later, the Penn Quadruplets explained their predicament to Stewardd. "And so…I broke it." Lance said. "We told him not to touch it, but he never listens to any of us." Jessica said, holding an ice pack on her butt. "Have to fix. Stewardd needs tools. Tools from Keepers. Must go. Stewardd be back tomorrow." Stewardd said. "Okay. Meet us at the track early." Kurt said. "And promise that you won't tell anybody." Lance begged. Stewardd zipped his lip and winked at Lance before leaving. Lance sighed in relief. But then, Isla pulled him to her by his shirt. "You're really on a short leash here, Lance. If Stewardd can't fix the gear, we're telling Artha and Dad what you did." She warned. Lance gulped with worry at that.
Later, the next day at the track, Parmon and Cain were inside the Penn Racing Team's tent fixing the Light Green Gear. "Are you sure you know how to fix it?" Cain asked with worry. "I think so. Let's see. The green wire to the other green wire." Parmon said. As he repaired the broken piece, the gear started powering up. "Ah, there. I think I fixed it." He said. Cain took down the homemade gear and put the real gear back in its place. "There we go. Now the Keepers' Gear is back where it belongs." He said. Suddenly, they heard a noise outside. They quickly hid the homemade gear in a box as Artha, Kitt and Moordryd walked into the tent. "What are you guys doing?" Artha asked. "Uh, well…we were-" Cain tried to say, feeling nervous. "Just leaving!" Parmon cried as he and Cain zipped out of the tent, bumping into a couple by accident. "HEY!" The man exclaimed. "Get lost!" The woman exclaimed. "Sorry!" Parmon cried. "No offense, Artha, but Professor Parm is an odd guy." Kitt said. "None taken. But it was even odder that Cain was with him." Artha said. "Yeah. Very odd. What were they even doing in here anyway?" Moordryd asked. Just then, Kitt noticed the box, walked over and picked it up, revealing Parmon's gear. "Guys, isn't this Parm's wacky gear?" She asked. "Looks like he and Cain were planning to replace Holly's with it." Moordryd said. Just then, Artha got an idea. "Hey, that's a good idea." He said. Kitt and Moordryd grinned and nodded in agreement. "You don't need this, Holly. And besides, it's dangerous." Kitt said as she replaced the Keepers' gear with Parm's. "She's right. It's for your own good." Moordryd said as he took the gear and threw it into the trash. "There. Now it's just you, your skills and the gear you got, little sis." Artha said as they walked out of the tent.
Suddenly, Swayy and Prankk peeked out from their hiding place beside the tent, chuckling sinisterly. They walked into the tent and took Parmon's gear, mistaking it for the real gear, and replaced it with their booby-trapped decoy. "Rancydd, this is Swayy and Prankk. We've got the gear and the decoy is in place." Swayy said into her com-link.
Meanwhile, Stewardd and the quadruplets were hiding by the stands. As they crept over to the fence and looked over at the Penn tent. Just then, they saw Swayy and Prankk walk out of the tent, carrying Parmon's gear, mistaking it for the real one. "Oh no. Swayy and Prankk have got the gear." Isla said with worry. "Mortis was right. We got trouble." Lance said. "Oh, when did you figure that out? When you broke the gear or when we saw those 2 dirty Dragon Eyes taking it?" Jessica asked sarcastically.
Later, Kurt took down the decoy. "We gotta take it to the Dragon Eye waste bin and switch it with the one they stole. That way, Stewardd can hide with the gear." He explained. "Yes, that's a good plan." Jessica said. "But there will be no gear here." Stewardd said. "Oh yeah. Until we get the gear back, Holly won't have any gear to use." Isla said. Lance started to think until he thought of something. He started digging through a crate of junk. "Yeah, this should do the trick." He said, pulling out an identical piece of gear and setting it on the workbench. "Uh, are you sure about this, Lance?" Kurt asked. "This plan, never work, never work. It's wrong color." Stewardd said. But then, Lance held up the can of light green paint. "Paint?! Are you kidding me?!" Jessica exclaimed. "Uh, why not just tell the truth?" Stewardd asked. "Are you kidding? Artha and Dad will scale me!" Lance exclaimed. "That's nothing compared to what I'll do to you!" Jessica exclaimed. She tried to march over to beat up Lance, but Kurt and Isla held her back while Stewardd pondered Lance's words. After painting the makeshift gear, they placed it on the mag-pit. "There. That looks-" Lance tried to say. "Bad." Stewardd interrupted, seeing how bad it was painted. Lance stared at him. "He's right. That looks bad, Lance. Of all the ideas you've ever had, this is the worst." Jessica said.
"Lance? Guys?" Parmon's voice called, startling Stewardd and the quadruplets. "Hide this. Hide this." Stewardd said as he handed the decoy gear to Lance and dove out from under the tent. "Guys?" Parmon called. "Quick, quick! Under that box!" Kurt whispered, pointing to the box on the workbench. Lance quickly hid the decoy gear under the box and hid the paintbrush behind his back as Parmon and Cain walked into the tent. "Lance, what're you and your siblings doing?" Cain asked. "Nothing." Lance lied, acting innocent. "You lot wouldn't be trying to check out the new Deflection Gear, would you? The one Artha and Mr. Penn specifically told you not to touch?" Parmon asked. "Uh-uh. It's right there." Lance said, accidentally splashing some paint on the mag-pit. He nervously hid the paintbrush back behind his back, splashing more paint on the tent…and on Jessica's face. "There." He said, pointing at the gear, accidentally revealing more paint on his finger. Parmon and Cain eyed the gear suspiciously, seeing the paint was still wet. "Okay then. The Gauntlet race is starting and we have to get to the crew area. We'll be back for the mag-rack during the repair period." Parmon explained before he and Cain left. The quadruplets sighed in relief. "That was close." Isla said as Stewardd crawled back under the tent. "Speak for yourself." Jessica grumbled, wiping the paint off her face while glaring at Lance, who chuckled nervously. "I hate having to lie to Parmon and Cain like that. But we gotta go and get the gear back from the Dragon Eyes right now." Kurt said as he took the decoy gear and walked out of the tent with his siblings and Stewardd following.
Meanwhile, the Gauntlet race was just about to begin. "Welcome competitors to the Gauntlet!" Marshal Budge greeted. The crowd cheered. "You have 3 race periods to survive. And repairs are allowed for only 5 minutes between each one. Best time wins. Good luck!" Marshal Budge explained. Holly was a bit nervous since this was her first official race. Rancydd, who was on her left, smirked sinisterly at her nervousness. Marshal Budge banged his gong, starting the race. The racers and their Dragons took off down the track. Rancydd cut in front of Holly and Glyttia as they were about to enter the Gauntlet's obstacle course. "The Gauntlet." Holly said in awe. As they entered the Gauntlet, several racers already got struck by the obstacles. Holly and Rancydd were neck-n-neck. Suddenly, Holly saw a giant hole in front of them. The Dragons leapt hard over the hole. But then, Rancydd activated his Red Thruster Gear, throwing Holly and Glyttia off balance. Luckily, Holly activated her White Gear, allowing them to glide to safety. But then, she saw one of the obstacle maces was about to hit her and Glyttia. She tried to glide Glyttia out of the way, but the mace hit and damaged the White Gear's right wing, causing them to fall. But luckily, Glyttia managed to grab the edge of the hole with her claws and pull herself and Holly back up. By the time they reached the finish line, Rancydd had already crossed first. "Rancydd of the Dragon Eye Crew takes the first feat!" Marshal Budge announced. Rancydd addressed the crowd as he saw Holly and Glyttia ride up. "Oh, it looks like I win the first part of the Gauntlet, stable skank. I'm surprised your loser family allowed you to enter this race. You don't have the skills or the gear for this race." He said mockingly. 'Oh, we'll show you yet, Rancydd. We'll show you yet.' Holly thought, glaring at him.
Meanwhile, the quadruplets and Stewardd snuck their way into the Dragon Eye tent. "Come on, let's make the switch and get the Drac out of here!" Jessica whispered. Kurt took Parmon's gear from the mag-pit while Stewardd replaced it with the decoy gear. "Look what we have here." Swayy said as she and Prankk surprised them. Kurt quickly dropped the gear and slid it out of the tent unseen. "If it isn't the famous Stewardd and the stable brat's little siblings, the baby brats." Prankk said. "Trying to take back your gear, are we?" Swayy asked mockingly. "Quickly, Penns!" Stewardd exclaimed. The quadruplets moved aside as Swayy and Prankk were about to grab Stewardd. But Stewardd pulled out another green orb and created another smoke cloud. Swayy and Prankk made a grab, but Stewardd disappeared again. "What?! Where'd he go now?!" Prankk exclaimed. "I don't know! Uh…could you let go of my hands please?" Swayy asked, blushing as she noticed her hands and Prankk's holding. "Oh! Sorry." Prankk said, blushing out of embarrassment. The quadruplets exited the tent, grabbed Parmon's gear and ran off. Stewardd tried to crawl out, but Swayy and Prankk grabbed his ankles, pulled him back out and held him up. "Master Word will be very pleased to see you." Swayy said. "Yeah. You and soon, the rest of your secret crew." Prankk said.
Later, after Rancydd returned, the quadruplets peeked into the tent and saw him, Swayy and Prankk interrogating Stewardd while hanging him off the mag-pit. "If you don't wanna tell me where your crew is…fine. After the race, we'll pay a little visit to Master Word. I'm sure you'll both be very happy to see each other." Rancydd said sinisterly. Stewardd became very worried at that. "Kurt, can't you use some of your Booster smoke to help Stewardd?" Lance whispered. "Are you whacked?! Even with my Booster powers, I can't take on those 3 by myself." Kurt whispered. "He's right. We need to head back and get Artha and the others." Isla whispered. "And this time, we tell the truth." Jessica whispered. "But-" Lanced tried to say, but his siblings glared at him, shutting him up.
Later, everyone prepared for the Gauntlet's second race period. "Remaining racers, prepare for the second period. Same track, same obstacles, but twice the danger. On your marks!" Marshal Budge announced. Holly and Glyttia got ready. As Marshal Budge rang his gong, the racers took off, earning cheers from the crowd. Rancydd pulled out an Energy Draining Whip and attached it onto a female racer in front of him, draining her Dragon's Energy. "Out of my way, loser!" He exclaimed, pulling the racer and her Dragon down as he raced past them. Meanwhile, Holly and Glyttia were finally getting the hang of dodging the obstacles at every turn. "Drac, this isn't so bad. Got a lot more room to maneuver…" Holly started to say. But then, one of the maces slammed into her, knocking her down. "…and a lot more room to fall." She groaned. "Ow! That's gotta hurt. And it looks like Rancydd with the best time." Marshall Budge said as Rancydd crossed the finish line. "Boo!" An elderly man with Penn merchandise booed. "Now with a nearly insubmittable 30 second lead." Marshal Budge announced.
Later, Holly stormed into the team's tent. "Okay, that's enough! I need Stewardd's new Deflection Gear or I'm gonna lose to the Dragon Eyes!" She exclaimed as she walked up to the others. "Listen, sister, if you think you need some new kind of gear, you're just kidding yourself!" Kitt exclaimed. "And what about what Mortis said? Just having that gear here is dangerous." Parmon said. "Humph! I don't care about the danger. I need to win this race." Holly said as she was about to take the fake gear. "Stop!" Moordryd exclaimed, blocking her. "I can't let you do this, Holls! Look, we don't know where this gear came from, but it's not the real one." He said. Parmon and Cain got confused at that. "He's right. We checked it. It's a cheap knockoff with still-wet paint." Kitt said. Artha walked over to the trash and pulled out the real gear. "This is the real gear. Kitt, Moordryd and I hid it in the trash to keep it safe. "Thanks. For nothing!" Holly snapped as she took the gear and stormed off. "I'm so confused." Parmon said. "Me too." Cain said. "What?" Artha asked. "What?" Parmon asked. "What?" Kitt asked. "What?" Cain asked. "What?" Moordryd asked. "What, what, what, what, what?" Parmon asked.
Later, it was time for the final race. Glyttia was set up with the Deflection Gear. "You'll have to finish 31 seconds ahead of me or you lose, stable skank." Rancydd said. "Oh, I think I can manage." Holly said, gesturing to her new gear. 'My decoy. This will be fun.' Rancydd thought, mistaking the gear for his decoy. "One more period. And only 2 racers left. Get set. GO!" Marshal Budge said, ringing his gong. As Holly and Rancydd started to race, Rancydd's Dragon activated its Green Bashing Gear and slammed Glyttia into the wall, slowing her and Holly down a bit. As they reached the obstacles, as Holly caught up with Rancydd, she prepared to activate her gear. But then, she noticed the decoy on Rancydd's Dragon. 'Wait. He's got Deflection Gear too?' She thought. "Mag your new gear, Penn! I heard it's a real blast!" Rancydd exclaimed. But as he went to activate his gear, the bomb on the decoy went off, blowing him off his Dragon. As he parachuted down, he got smacked by one of the maces. As Holly dodged one of the obstacles, she prepared to activate the gear. But then…she hesitated. 'Maybe this whole thing is a bad idea.' She thought. "Maybe I can do this." She said, leaving the gear alone. "Come on, Glyttia. We can do this." They charged into the obstacles, dodging each one left and right. Just then, as she saw one of the bigger obstacles was about to hit her, she stood up on her saddle and grabbed onto it as Glyttia raced on ahead. After performing a perfect handstand, Holly leapt off the mace and flew over the other obstacles. Glyttia magged her back onto the saddle as they crossed the finish line. "It's over! Holly Penn has beaten the Gauntlet with an amazing run!" Marshal Budge announced as they awarded Holly and Glyttia with the Gauntlet Trophy.
Later, Holly returned to the tent, where she was greeted by her octuplet siblings, Connor, Kitt, Parmon, Moordryd and Cain. "You did it, sis!" Artha cheered. "Without the gear." Holly said with a smile. "We're very proud of you, Holly." Connor said. Just then, the quadruplets came running up. "Artha, guys, help!" Isla cried. "What's going on?" Charlie asked. "Stewardd's been caught by Rancydd, Swayy and Prankk!" Kurt cried. "They must be on their way to Word." Artha said. "If Word gets Stewardd…" Kitt started to say. "The Keepers will be in big trouble." Erika added. "Well, at least they don't have the gear. We got it back." Lance said, holding up Parmon's gear. "You can drop the act, Lance. I know what happened." Artha said. "You…you do?" Lance asked with worry. "Alright, everyone just hang on! Glyttia's got the real gear, and this is my gear." Parmon said. "Your wacky Deflection Gear?" Kitt asked. "And the one Rancydd had was a decoy he set up, and the other one was a cheap painted fake." Cain said. "Okay, does someone want to explain to me what the Drac is going on here?" Moordryd asked, feeling his brain spin. "No time, Moor. Give me that gear." Artha said as he took the gear. "Boosters, it's time to release the Dragon." Kitt, Derek and Benny held up their gauntlets. Kurt held up the Horn of Libris. Charlie fiddled with his necklace. Erika held up her tiara. "You too, Holly." Artha said. Holly held up her bracelet and nodded. They activated their powers and transformed.
Meanwhile, Rancydd, Swayy and Prankk were on their way to Word's citadel with Stewardd. Suddenly, they stopped in their tracks as Artha and Beau stood in their way. "Going somewhere?" Artha asked. The 3 Dragon Eyes looked around as they saw the other Boosters surrounding them. "And you lot aren't invited!" Rancydd exclaimed. "Save it! We want to make a trade." Derek said. "Trade? Lord Paynn wants this little mouse. What do you have that could possibly interest us?" Rancydd asked. "Give us Stewardd and we'll give you the real Deflection Gear." Erika said. "It's a trick." Swayy mumbled. Artha looked at Holly and nodded. Holly activated the gear, creating the deflection shield. The Dragon Eyes were shocked by that as she deactivated it. "We've been protecting them all along." Artha said. "Yeah. The Penns gave it to us for safe keeping." Holly said. "I'm not sure." Rancydd said, feeling unsure. Glyttia magged off the gear and placed it in Holly's hand. "With that gear, you'll be way more powerful than the other Down City Crews." Artha said. "He's got a point. With that gear, we could take over the Down City Council." Swayy said. "She's right. What the old man doesn't know can't hurt him." Prankk said as Holly and Glyttia secretly swapped the real gear for Parmon's. "I guess we could let the master worry about the mouse. You and your friends got yourselves a deal, Dragon Booster." Rancydd said. 'Let's hope they don't realize this is your wacky Deflection Gear, Parmesan.' Holly thought before tossing Parmon's gear to Prankk. Rancydd magged Stewardd over to Beau. "See you later, Dragon Blunders!" He said mockingly before taking off with his lackies. "Thank you. Thank you, Boosters. But my gear." Stewardd said. "You mean this gear?" Holly asked, holding up the real gear. Stewardd was surprised, but smiled that his gear was safe.
Meanwhile, the Dragon Eyes returned to Word's citadel and presented Parmon's gear to their master. "Ancient Keeper Deflection Gear. Perfect. For once, you 3 have done something right." Word said. "Yes, my lord. Watch. Activate the citadel defenses." Rancydd said. Word activated the citadel defenses as Rancydd activated the gear. "It takes the hits for you." He said. But as the defenses fired, the gear shorted out. Rancydd screamed as he and his Dragon got caught in Green Trapping Gear. Word pinched his temple in disappointment. "Does it take falls too?" Swayy asked. "Must need…tweaking." Rancydd groaned.
Meanwhile, as the team returned to the temple, Holly handed the Deflection Gear to Stewardd. "Thanks for lending me the gear, Stewardd. But I don't think we'll need it. If we continue to have it, you'll be put in danger again." She said. But Stewardd pushed the gear back to Holly, making everyone confused. "Stewardd knows the dangers. But gear belongs with you, Mana Booster. With all of you." He said. "He's right. We might need the gear someday." Artha said. "Thank you, Stewardd." Holly said. "Though we might need to train our Dragons to use that gear if we're gonna continue using it." Derek said. "Speaking of training, Holly, since you're the newest Booster on the team, it's time for training with your new Booster powers." Artha said. "More training?! Even after I just won the toughest race in the city?!" Holly exclaimed. "Yes. Because with more training, the more you'll be ready to help your fellow Boosters in the field." Mortis said. Holly groaned as she understood. "Here, you can use Lance for target practice. As part of his punishment for touching the gear when we clearly said not to." Artha said as everyone turned and glared at Lance. "And breaking it." Kitt added. "And lying to us." Erika added. "And hurting your sister." Jessica added. Lance chuckled nervously. "Oh, this…is gonna be fun." Holly said as her hands fueled with mana. Lance screamed as he started to run off.
Wow! Wasn't that amazing?! After learning that Stewardd was back in Dragon City, Word Paynn orders his Dragon Eyes to find him. Meanwhile, Holly and Glyttia train from the Gauntlet. Stewardd supplies them with Light Green Gear, with an additional Mana Booster Bracelet, but Lance's habit of NOT LISTENING TO HIS SIBLINGS caused the gear to break. And because of this, without everyone even knowing, they kept switching around their own handmade gears. With the Gauntlet rolling, as Holly finally realizes that using the Light Green Gear was a bad idea, she relied on her own instincts, as well as relying on her teamwork with Glyttia to win the Gauntlet. But what new adventures will the Booster Team have with Holly now joining the ranks as the new Mana Booster? What new dangers will Word Paynn and the Gloomix Clan plot? Leave a review if you'd like.
