Tobias POV

Max asked me to come by his apartment after dinner. He made it sound casual, but the look in his eyes told me it was urgent. I finished my roast beef and mashed potatoes, while ignoring Zeke, who was again trying to get me to go on a date. It's been a year and a half, and he still can't get it through his thick skull that I'm not interested. I rolled my eyes, and just walked away to clear my tray and head for Max' place.

I arrived and Max answered promptly like he'd been waiting. I guess this is important. We went to his study and his wife, Vi, or Violet, was there along with Hana, Zeke's mom. Max motioned for me to take the only remaining seat, so I did and looked to him expectantly.

"Four, I have a favor... well, it is a favor, but I'm not asking, I'm telling you to do it. I was supposed to meet my niece at Yellow House this evening, to test her for divergence." He stated.

I interrupted "You need me to meet her instead and administer the Aptitude serum?"

"Yes. There's no chair to strap her to, so make sure you stay close in case she moves during the test. I don't want my little Bumble Bee getting injured." He said fondly.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Great. I get to spend the evening with a spoiled, pampered, princess.

Vi added, "We should warn you; she can be a bit of a handful. She's got a smart mouth on her."

Hana chuckled, saying, "That's a bit of an understatement, Vi."

This night just keeps getting better and better.

Max cleared his throat, "Ahem, I had every intention of meeting up with her, but Jeanine has called an 'emergency meeting'. She made sure to include that only the 'senior' dauntless leaders needed to be present. She really doesn't like that you got the job over her plant, Eric."

I nodded bluntly in agreement. I could care less that Jeanine doesn't like me. The feeling is very mutual. She thinks she has Max in the palm of her hands. But he's just leading her on so we can figure out what her plans are.

Vi smiled at me and said, "Her name is Tris and she'll be there at 11pm. She's never late, so it shouldn't take up too much of your time. You do know where Yellow House is, right?"

"Yes, Zeke, Charlie, Shauna, and I made the mistake of trying to prank their younger siblings once. It didn't go well for us." I offered.

The three of them laughed. They must know how capable they are. So tonight, I'm meeting the infamous Tris. In the almost two years I've been here; I've never met her any time other than the night we tried to prank them. Maybe tonight will be a little more interesting. I'll at least have a face to put with the name.

I went back to my apartment to get a couple hours sleep before heading out to Yellow House. Although I was curious about meeting Tris, or Trissy, I sincerely hoped I didn't experience the tingling I did last time I met her. I only wanted to have that feeling with Beatrice. I drifted off thinking of her beautiful blue-grey eyes. I woke up two hours later from an amazing, but not remotely appropriate, dream of Beatrice. I'm still very Abnegation in some ways. I got dressed after pulling myself together and left for the ten-minute walk to Yellow House. It was close to Dauntless Headquarters.

It was dark when I arrived, I looked at my watch and saw that she still had five minutes. Max had given me the key, so I could get in. Of course, I found there was no electricity, so I had to sit there in the dark, waiting for her. Good thing I had my laptop for administering the test. That at least gave me some light. Twenty minutes later, she still hadn't arrived, and I was getting more and more irritated. Just how I wanted to spend my Friday night, sitting in a dark house, waiting for an inconsiderate teenaged girl.

More time passed, and she was over an hour late. I started packing up my laptop, in preparation to leave. Irritable doesn't even come close to my current mood. If, by some miracle, she does show up, she's getting me in full on Four mode. Suddenly I heard light steps coming up the front porch steps and the door slammed open.

"Are you Four?" she asked in a shaky voice. Good, she should be scared.

"Yes, and you're over an hour late! I have better ways to spend my Friday night!" I said in my most intimidating voice. Okay so my big plan for the night was sleeping, but she didn't need to know that.

She gasped out, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Please can you call my Uncle Max to come?"

"No! He sent me here, now let's get this test over with." I yelled.

Then she started to cry. What the hell? It's just a stupid Aptitude test. I don't want to deal with this sniveling girl. If she's crying over this, she definitely isn't cut out for Dauntless.

She quietly says, "I understand you're upset, but it's urgent I see my uncle. Also, the generator is on the back porch. If you turn it on, we can have some light."

I groaned and headed to the back door, which was through the kitchen. It would have been helpful if Max had told me about the generator. Maybe I'd be in a slightly better mood. I turned on the generator, then headed back into the house. I turned on the light in the living room and looked at the girl.

She was wrapped in an extremely over-sized, Abnegation men's coat. She was also wearing black, Dauntless combat boots. She had a black eye and a busted lip and had clearly had a bloody nose. Through all that, I was horrified to realize who was sitting before me, who had obviously been attacked by someone. I had been awful to her, and she was hurt. Then I felt blinding rage! Who dared put their hands on my Beatrice! I just stared at her, hoping my fury didn't show. I didn't want her to think it was directed at her.

She stared up at me and asked, "Tobias?"

I hurried over to sit next to her on the couch and put my arm around her. She immediately winced. I couldn't find any words. I needed to apologize for being such a jerk to her!

"Beatrice, You're Tris?" I asked, taking her hand in mine. Her knuckles were al split and bloody.

She nodded her head and looked down. She started sobbing. I just held her gently. Then I realized she really did need her Uncle Max, so I grabbed my phone from my pocket and called him.

"Four? What's going on?" Max answered.

I took a deep breath and said, "Max, it's Beatrice. She's been attacked, I need you to come to Yellow House."

There was silence on his end, then, "I'm on my way."

Beatrice told me there was a first aid kit in a cupboard in the kitchen, so I went to find that. I also found a bottle of acetaminophen, so I grabbed two capsules. I then grabbed a cup from another cabinet and hoped the sink worked. It did, so I got her a cup of water. I found rags too and wet one. There was no hot water, so cold would have to do.

When I got back to Beatrice, I moved to pull her coat off so I could assess all her injuries, but she pulled away and wouldn't let me take her coat. I frowned and looked at her questioningly.

"I'll explain it all... sort of, when Uncle Max gets here. I don't want to have to tell it more than once." she stated.

She then moved a little away from me like she didn't want me to touch her. I don't know what to do or what to say to her. Is she afraid of me specifically or is this because of whatever trauma she's been through? I decide to just say whatever comes to mind, just to try to distract her from her injuries and to keep her awake in case she has a head injury. She can't seem to look at me.

"I never answered you that day, but I want you to know... I waited for you." I said, hoping she still wants me.

This just sets her off again and she's crying and worse, she got sick and ran to the bathroom. I followed her in and pulled her hair back while she was violently ill. She finally stopped and I gave her a new cup of water to rinse out. She went to the sink and oddly enough, there were toothbrushes there. I just hope the one she grabbed was hers. There were six to choose from. It was blue with sparkles. She brushed her teeth, then went to sit back on the couch and wait for Max.

At that point, I just decided to sit on the other couch and give her some space. I also decided to just stop talking. It's not really a good sign when the girl you're in love with gets sick knowing you've been waiting for her for a year and a half. I'm in misery. She's moved on. She's hurt. She doesn't want anything to do with me. I was also a total asshole to her when she got here. No wonder she hates me. Does she hate me? She doesn't want me near her. She won't look at me. Wait, did I just think "the girl I'm in love with"? Am I in love with her? My chest feels tight, and I feel like I can't breathe. It physically hurts to think that she doesn't want me. I looked down at my hands and knew that yes, I'm in love with Beatrice Prior. If anything, a year and a half separation has made my feelings for her even stronger.

It's only been about ten minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Finally Max and Vi came barging in the door. Their faces filled with concern.

Beatrice looked up at her aunt and uncle and Max moved to wrap his arms around her. She held up her hands to stop him.

"Please don't. I hurt everywhere." she said, her voice quaking.

I went to the back bedrooms to see if there were any blankets. It's January and I'm stupid and didn't think about her sitting there shivering. The house is nice and has beds and everything. I pulled a patchwork quilt off a bed and ran back out. I didn't want to upset Beatrice, so I gave it to Vi and she wrapped it around her.

We all sat around staring at Beatrice, waiting for her story.

Looking down at the floor, she finally started talking, her voice still shaking, "This goes back a couple years when a man started acting weird towards me. I talked to the gang about it, and we decided it would be best for me to wear one of our hidden prank cameras, so we could catch him, in case he did anything more."

Max interrupted, "Hidden prank camera?"

"You'd have to talk to Uriah about it more. He and Gus, from the Control Room, designed them. They're mostly invisible. They stick onto your clothes or whatever you want, and you push it, and it records everything. You can download the footage with a phone or computer. We decided I would always wear one when I wasn't home." she explained.

Violet asked, "Were you wearing it tonight?"

Beatrice nodded her head and reached into her coat. She opened it only slightly and was really fast, but we could all see that her shirt was ripped open. She pulled the tiny camera off and handed it to Max.

"Everything is on here. Just search for it with a computer or phone. The code you're looking for is uriahrules3. I already lived through it. I'm going to go lay down on one of the beds." she said flatly, then left the room.

I took out my laptop and set it on the coffee table. I found the wireless code and downloaded the files from the tiny camera...
