Chapter 10: Merida of Dunbroch.

Thirteen years after their marriage, King Ryder and Queen Astrid of the Isle of Night overlooked their people in the Royal Hall as their child Zephyr came running up to her chair. The 13 years were peaceful and prosperous as they had hoped, Astrid had been missing her family and the people of New Berk, but she had a feeling she'd see them sooner than she thought.

The air in the Royal Gardens of the Isle of Night was filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming roses and the distant murmur of the fountain in the center of the garden. King Ryder and Queen Astrid strolled hand in hand, their royal cloaks billowing behind them. Princess Zephyr skipped ahead, her laughter echoing through the peaceful garden.

"Father, look!" Zephyr exclaimed, pointing excitedly at a delicate butterfly fluttering among the flowers.

King Ryder bent down to her level, a smile playing on his lips. "It's a beauty, isn't it, Zephyr?" he said, his voice filled with fatherly warmth.

Queen Astrid watched them with a soft gaze, her heart swelling with love for her family. "Zephyr, be gentle with the butterfly," she reminded her daughter, her voice melodious and kind.

The trio continued their leisurely walk, the warm rays of the setting sun casting a golden glow over the garden. Squire Ivar followed a few steps behind, ever watchful of his royal charges.

As they reached a secluded grove with a small wooden bench, King Ryder turned to Queen Astrid with a twinkle in his eye. "Shall we rest for a moment, my queen?" he asked, his voice low and filled with adoration.

Queen Astrid's laughter rang out like music in the tranquil garden. "Of course, my king," she replied, her hand reaching out to caress his cheek.

Zephyr plopped down on the soft grass beside the bench, her eyes sparkling with innocent curiosity. "Tell me a story, Father," she pleaded, her voice a sweet melody.

King Ryder settled onto the bench, Queen Astrid beside him, and began to weave the tale of how Astrid and Ryder met, drawing Zephyr into a world of wonder and adventure. His voice rose and fell with the rhythm of the story, painting vivid pictures in the minds of his listeners. The sun dipped lower on the horizon, casting long shadows across the garden. The gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze provided a soothing backdrop to King Ryder's storytelling.

"With we ever return to Berk father?" asks Zephyr looking at her father.

"Maybe one day, it would be nice to see everyone again." says Astrid looking at her husband.

As the last rays of sunlight faded from the sky, King Ryder gathered his family close. "Come, let us return to the palace before the night falls completely," he said, his tone gentle yet determined.

Together, they walked back through the Royal Gardens, the scent of roses following them like a fragrant veil. The night was alive with the sound of crickets and the distant hoot of an owl as they made their way home, the warmth of love and unity enveloping them in its comforting embrace.

The next morning, the King and Queen gather everyone into the Royal Hall.

"Alright people, calm down. I know this is unexpected, but we have have been called to New Berk." says King Ryder taking the stage. "About a week ago, they sent us a letter claiming to have seen small amounts of unknown ships entering their waters, and as you all know by now, New Berk was settled to the East of the Isle of Night. So I have sent word to Chief Stoick of New Berk, and he expects our arrival early tomorrow morning."

"But sir, we are not ready to travel to New Berk." says one of the townspeople.

"We have the largest armada of ships known in our history." says Ryder getting up from his chair. "Gather the armies and set sail, we head for New Berk and Draconia."

"Of course King Ryder." says Harald exiting the hall.

"I will be sending my Squire, Lord Ivar to Draconia to alert my brother and father of this news." says Ryder leaving the hall with his family.

A few hours later, the city boards all the ships the city has made; including the new prototype vessel. The royal family taking their Royal Carriage Vessel leading the fleet towards New Berk. Upon arriving at New Berk, the royal family are greeted by the people of Berk.

"Welcome back to New Berk your Majesty." says Valka with a mild look of concern.

The townhall of New Berk buzzed with anticipation as the rulers of the Isle of Night and Draconia gathered with the Council of Berk. King Ryder Ridaris stood tall and regal, his eyes scanning the room with a mix of curiosity and concern. Queen Astrid Ridaris, a fierce warrior in her own right, stood by his side, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword. Princess Zephyr Ridaris, a budding diplomat at thirteen, observed the proceedings with keen interest. Chief Stoick Haddock, a weathered and wise leader, exchanged a nod with his wife, Chieftess Valka Haddock, a woman of grace and strength. The rulers of the Isle of Night, King Valentine Ridaris and High King Ragnar Ridaris, exuded an air of authority and power.

As the meeting commenced, the sound of hushed whispers filled the room like a soft breeze. King Ryder cleared his throat, his voice commanding attention. "Thank you all for gathering here today. We face a new challenge that requires our united strength."

Chief Stoick nodded solemnly. "Reports have come in of strange ships entering our waters. We must investigate this matter swiftly and decisively."

High King Ragnar leaned forward, his eyes narrowed in thought. "These ships could pose a threat to our people. We cannot afford to ignore this warning."

Queen Astrid crossed her arms, a steely glint in her eye. "We must act with caution and precision. We cannot risk the safety of our kingdoms."

Princess Zephyr raised her hand, her voice clear and steady. "I suggest we send a scouting party to gather information about these ships. We need to know who they are and what they want."

King Valentine nodded in agreement. "A wise suggestion, Princess Zephyr. We shall assemble a team to investigate this mystery."

The room filled with a chorus of agreement, the rulers and council members united in their resolve to confront this new threat. The sound of chairs scraping against the wooden floor echoed through the hall as the meeting adjourned.

As the rulers and council members began to disperse, Princess Zephyr approached Chief Stoick with a determined look in her eye. "Chief Stoick, I would like to lead the scouting party. I believe I can gather valuable information and ensure the safety of our kingdoms."

Chief Stoick regarded her with a mix of surprise and admiration. "You are young, Princess, but I see strength and courage in your eyes. Very well, you shall lead the scouting party."

Princess Zephyr beamed with pride, her heart pounding with excitement and determination. She knew that this mission would test her skills and mark her coming of age as a leader.

The next morning, the scouting party set out on their journey, their boots thudding against the forest floor as they followed the trail of the mysterious ships. Princess Zephyr led the way with confidence, her sword at her side and her senses sharp. The air was thick with tension and anticipation, the sound of branches snapping underfoot mingling with the rustle of leaves in the breeze. The scouts moved with stealth and precision, their eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of danger. Suddenly, a low rumble echoed through the forest, causing the scouts to freeze in their tracks. Princess Zephyr signaled for silence, her heart racing as she listened intently. A figure emerged from the shadows, its movements fluid and graceful. The scouts tensed, ready for action as the figure approached with a sense of purpose.

"Who goes there?" Zephyr's voice rang out, firm and commanding. The figure hesitated for a moment before stepping into the clearing, revealing a young woman with fiery red hair and piercing blue eyes.

"I mean no harm," the woman spoke, her voice calm but tinged with a hint of defiance. "I am Merida, a hunter from a nearby kingdom. I hunt these unknown ships that have been troubling our waters."

Zephyr narrowed her eyes, studying the newcomer with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. The mention of unknown ships piqued her interest, aligning with the council's concerns about potential threats to their realms. She motioned for her men to lower their weapons.

"Merida, is it?" Zephyr's tone softened slightly. "I am Princess Zephyr of the Isle of Night. We are on a scouting mission to investigate these very ships. Perhaps our paths have crossed for a reason."

Merida's gaze flickered with surprise, but she quickly regained her composure. "A princess in the heart of the forest. Fate works in mysterious ways, it seems. I would be honored to join forces in uncovering the truth behind these vessels."

The two women exchanged a nod of understanding, a silent agreement passing between them. With newfound allies by her side, Zephyr led the way back to the map chamber of New Berk, where the leaders of Draconia and Isle of Night awaited their return. In the grand chamber adorned with intricate tapestries and flickering torches, King Ryder Ridaris and Queen Astrid Ridaris of the Isle of Night stood alongside High King Ragnar Ridaris of Draconia, their expressions grave and contemplative. Princess Zephyr entered the chamber, Merida by her side, their presence drawing the attention of the gathered leaders. A hushed murmuring filled the room as all eyes turned towards the unexpected guests.

"Princess Zephyr, you have returned," King Ryder's voice carried authority as he addressed the young princess. "And who is this you bring with you? A hunter in our midst?"

Zephyr stepped forward, her posture regal despite her youth. "My lords and lady, allow me to introduce Merida, a skilled hunter who shares our concerns about the mysterious ships prowling our waters. She has valuable information to share."

Queen Astrid's keen gaze assessed Merida, noting the determination etched in her features. "Welcome, Merida. Your presence is most timely. Please, enlighten us with what you have discovered in your hunts."

Merida's voice rang out clear and unwavering as she recounted her encounters with the unknown ships, detailing their strange markings and elusive nature. Her words painted a vivid picture of a looming threat that lingered on the horizon.

High King Ragnar listened intently, his brow furrowed in thought. "These ships pose a danger not only to our realms but to the delicate balance of power in the region. We must act swiftly and decisively to uncover the truth behind this mystery."

The leaders fell into a deep discussion, weighing their options and strategies to confront the looming threat. Princess Zephyr and Merida exchanged a knowing glance, united in their resolve to protect their lands and people. Hours passed as plans were forged and alliances solidified in the map chamber of New Berk. The flickering torches cast dancing shadows on the faces of the leaders, their voices blending in a symphony of determination and unity. Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the chamber, causing the leaders to startle in surprise. The doors burst open, revealing a messenger breathless and wide-eyed with urgent news.

"My lords and lady, a fleet of unknown ships has been sighted on the horizon! They are closing in on our shores as we speak!" the messenger's voice trembled with fear, the gravity of the situation sinking in.

King Ryder's eyes widened in alarm, his hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of his sword. "To arms! We must defend our lands against this threat! Prepare the defenses and ready the troops for battle!"

Chaos erupted in the map chamber as the leaders sprang into action, issuing orders and mobilizing their forces with swift efficiency. Princess Zephyr and Merida stood shoulder to shoulder, their resolve unyielding in the face of impending danger. Swords clashed, arrows flew, and war cries pierced the air as the armies of New Berk, Draconia, and Isle of Night united against the common enemy. The fate of their realms hung in the balance, tested by the crucible of war. Through the smoke and tumult of battle, Princess Zephyr and Merida fought side by side, their bond forged in the heat of combat. Together, they stood as symbols of courage and unity, leading their allies with unwavering determination. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a crimson glow over the battlefield, the tide of battle turned in favor of the united forces. The unknown ships retreated, their threat vanquished by the valor and strength of the allied realms. Cheers erupted from the victorious warriors, their voices raised in triumph and solidarity. Princess Zephyr and Merida shared a smile of shared victory, their friendship forged in the fires of adversity.

The leaders of New Berk, Draconia, and Isle of Night gathered once more in the map chamber, their spirits lifted by the hard-won victory. King Ryder raised a toast to their newfound alliance, a bond that would endure beyond the trials of war. And so, in the heart of the map chamber, amidst the flickering torches and ancient tapestries, a new era dawned for the realms of Draconia, New Berk, and Isle of Night. United in purpose and strength, they stood as beacons of hope in a world fraught with challenges. The echoes of battle faded into the night, replaced by the laughter and camaraderie of allies turned friends. In the midst of chaos and conflict, bonds were forged that would withstand the test of time, shining bright in the darkness of uncertainty. And as the stars twinkled in the night sky, casting their gentle light upon the map chamber of New Berk, a sense of peace settled over the realm.
