Chapter 5

The class was a bit more interesting than Miho had thought. Nearly the entire time before lunch was just everyone introducing themselves and getting their temporary schedules; the teacher had an entire slide show prepared when she introduced herself. Apparently, she had once tried to turn her music hobby into a career with no success and was a big board game enthusiast. The remaining bit was basically the entire class socializing with each and maybe the teacher sometimes; Miho however was maybe a bit too shy to try and socialize and had her mind focused on other things.

Soon, the bell rang for lunch and everyone flooded out of the room. Although they'd come back to this room after lunch, Miho still stayed behind to organize her things out of habit. After finishing she suddenly heard a voice ask, "hey there girl, do you wanna have lunch with us?" Quickly turning around, she saw two girls, one around her height with orange slightly wavy hair and the other taller with jet black hair, both girls' hair was let down and past their shoulders.

She immediately recognized both of them, pointing to the shorter one and asking, "you're Saori Takebe," she guessed before pointing to the taller girl and saying, "and you're Hana Isuzu right?"

"Yep, you are correct," the taller girl, presumably Hana, responded.

The other girl, Saori, quickly added, "I'm surprised you recognized us given how you never seemed to socialize with anyone here."

Hana looked at Saroi, "Now don't be rude, Saori."

Miho quickly threw up her hands to divert their attention back to her, "it's okay, I was hoping to try and talk to some of our classmates but I had a lot on my mind, I'm sorry."

"Oh it's okay," Hana responded, "well anyway do you wanna take our offer?"

"Of course," Miho immediately answered.

The three girls quickly make their way to the cafeteria and get their lunches. "So you and Hana transferred here from Oorarai, right?" Miho asked.

"Yep," Saroi answered, "at first it was nerve wracking, but now I really think I'm gonna have a good time here." Saroi sighed, "even if there aren't any cute boys here."

"You're still going on about this boyfriend thing aren't you?" Hana replied. "What about you Miho, um is it okay if we call you by your first name," she later asked?

"Sure you can," Miho responded gleefully. "And I'm also a transfer student."

"Oh cool," Saroi responded, "it's like we all lost souls that somehow found each other , almost like how you suddenly realize your feelings for a boy after he suddenly confesses to you."

"Are you having some trouble in your family?" Hana asks, ignoring Saroi's comment.

"Umm," Miho wasn't sure how to respond, "yeah, I guess you could say that." Miho could see the confused and surprised look on Hana's and Saroi's faces but she didn't really know just how far she could comfortably let them in on her situation, "well it's complicated, but simply put, my birth family disowned me and a new family adopted me," she briefly explained, twiddling her fingers out of nervousness.

"Oh my," Saroi was the first to respond to this revelation. "I…I'm so sorry you went through something like that," she apologized with sadness and regret in her voice.

Hana, hoping to lift up the mood a bit, quickly changed the subject, "how about we start eating before the food gets too cold?"

Both Miho and Saroi agreed and began to start eating. Quickly remembering the pastries she bought earlier, but realizing that her bag was still in the classroom, "before I forget there's a bakery near my dorm so before school I bought some treats there, so when we get back to the classroom we could quickly get a little desert before class starts," she suggests. Saroi and Hana immediately nodded their heads, "and also it's okay, when you guys asked me about my past, I've come to terms with it for the most part but I'm still not completely comfortable talking about it." Saroi smiles knowing Miho isn't upset with them.

After finishing their lunches, the three girls made their way back to the classroom and helped themselves to the sweets Miho bought.
