Growing family

Mirabel Was examining herself in the mirror as she looked at what she was wearing, Today was one of those days where she felt like she needed a bit of a pick me up or a change of style. Maybe it was the skirt or the blouse she didn't know but ever since meeting her new second family and Miguel she felt she had new sense of confidence something proud; Her family could see the change both living and dead even Miguel could see it and he loved seeing this new side of her that he has never seen before.
"Maybe it is the skirt, I mean it is getting old so I guess I could make a new one". She thought
"What do you think casita, Do you think I need a new skirt ?" Mirabel asked the tiles as they moved in reply
Casita moves her tiles as if to say ' Do what you need to, but I think you look you'll good in new a skirt '. She ratted her tiles
"Gracias". Mirabel chuckled lightly
Her mother then called her to help with lunch, She spent the rest the afternoon drawing , designing and sketching . Isabela saw this and knew she was in the zone and saw her tongue sticking out so knowing she was in the zone she didn't disturb her any further.
Bruno often caught glances at what his niece was sketching behind his book and when she looked his way he pretend to turn back to his book.
When Mirabel went to the land of the dead she would be with Victoria as she read quietly on her break, but even she caught a few glances at what she sketching and had a small smile.
She would often help her Abuela Daphne and Ceci and they loved her help and they got a lot more work done and both ladies were happy.
"So Mija what are you designing?" Ceci asked
"You'll have to wait see". She winked
"Well whatever it is Mi angel it will be beautiful ". Daphne smiled
"No doubt about it . "Ceci joined
When she came back she fell asleep after a long days work with a smile on a face having the best dreams as her life had truly changed for the better.
~~ 4 Weeks later ~~
Mirabel had taken time and care with creating this piece of art because it had everyone she loves On it and she wouldn't change it for the world she finally completed he creation and she was happy with it, the skirt had everyone from the Riveras and to the Madrigals her Abuelo, Tio, Tia, Abuela included; She stood by the mirror and smiled one last time before going down to breakfast.
"Buenos dias Famila". Mirabel called
"Someone's cheery this morning ". Juileta sighed
"Si why wouldn't I be?" She replied
Isabela hugged Mirabel and she hugged back tightly and smiled.
As they ate breakfast she smiled and somehow she felt comfortable and confident and was happy that her family was happy.
After all the conversation had died down Mirabel smiled as she got up and did the dishes, Julieta smiled as she and the rest of the family caught sight of her skirt and they all gasped their faces then soften into smiles .
"Mira honey what happened to your skirt?" Pepa asked
"Oh this I decided to make another one since more pepole are in our family now, including Tíos , Papá and the Riveras as well". She explains
"Oh Mira that's so sweet". Juileta sighed
"Hermana that's sneaky ". Isabela smiled
She was so glad and happy that they liked the skirt and she was very comfortable in it she couldn't wait to show it to her second family.
~~~ The Rivera household~~~
The next day she went over there and was greeted with hugs and kisses like normal, Elena sighed and smiled.
"Mija How lovely to see you". Luisa greeted
"You too, I actually came here because of a surprise I have for you". She smiled
"Oh that's so sweet". Carmen sighed
"Now I'm not sure if you're gonna like it". Mirabel replies
"Nonsense Mija any gift from you is precious ". Enrique said
She smiled and then pointed to her skirt.
"Notice anything different?" She asked
They noticed a lot of symbols but not like the ones she had on, but some new ones on her skirt and they smiled.
"Oh Mija you didn't ". Luisa cried
"I thought I might need a new skirt and I wanted everyone on there and I had to make 2 layers ". She smiled
"It's only fair that my second family gets there fair share". She adds
They noticed all the tiny details like a music note for Héctor, A shoe for Imelda ( similar to her boot.) A soccer ball for Manny and Benny, papiel picado for Carmen, Rosa some ink pens and poems, Victoria books , Rosita a wooden spoon, Tamales for Elena and a ton more including her own family.
"How long did this take you to make?" Rosa asked
"A month". She answers
"It's beautiful ". Socorro smiled
"I'm glad you think so". Mirabel smiled
"Is it made out of silk?" Abel asked
"Si, I wanted to stay in longer so I made it silk no fraying and no threads coming out". She answers
"Very smart Mija". Franco said
"That way a little piece of you gets to stay with me". Mirabel replies
"Aww Mija we love you too". Elena cooed
That afternoon she ate lunch with them and had light conversation when Miguel enters kissing his love on the cheek.
"Hola beautiful didn't think I'd see you this afternoon ". Miguel greeted her
"Ay, for your information I wanted to show them a new project I just finished". She sighed
She stood up and showed her newly made skirt that was finished with all her family symbols.
"Silk?" Miguel coaxed
"I needed something softer so that they could stay on longer so I thought this was the best option especially since it's easier to wash". She exclaimed
"Smart Mi vida". He sighed
Then he looked closer at the symbols and noticed there were shoes he was guessing for Mamá Imelda, A music note for Papá Héctor, Dance shoes for Socorro, soccer balls for Manny and Benny and her more including her family symbols; including her Abuelas, Tios, Tias and Abuelos and he smiled.
There was One specific symbol that caught his eye it was a butterfly on the headstock of a white guitar similar to the one Miguel has (previously Héctor's).
Hidden in one of the corners of her skirt was their symbol as a nod the love they share, it had some writing done on the bottom to it said : With love, to my love and my only love.
Miguel smiled and chuckled at the inscription lucky to have Mirabel in his life and to have her love as much as she does.
He gave her a light peck on the lips and smiled she blushed he then whispered into her ear.
"I love you too you have no idea how much". Miguel smiled
"You saw that". She blushed
"Of course I did". He replied
She smiled as he sat down next her and held her hand from underneath the table as they continued to eat and talk through the rest of afternoon.
~~ The next day ~~
She went to the Rivera household in the land of the dead ( Thanks to her newfound abilities)hoping that everyone was there so she knocked.
Rosita answered the door and smiled when she saw Mirabel and let her inside and then giving her a big bear hug.
"Mija what a nice surprise ". Rosita smiled
"I hope you don't mind I have a little surprise ". Mirabel replies
"No of course not my love come come". She gestured
Mirabel always loved Rosita and her personality it was so bubbly, fun and bright much like her own and it made her very happy.
Julio and the others turned and saw her come in and said the hellos and bombarded her with hugs and kisses she really did feel like she was part of the family.
"Sonbrina it's so good to see you". Oscar said
"You too, I hope no inventions are blowing up". Mirabel replies
"Not in my house their not". Imelda called as she exited the workshop and went to join the rest
Mirabel smiled and chuckled lightly.
"Mija my darling what a surprise ". Imelda hugged Mirabel tight
"I just I thought I might stop by I kind of a surprise ". Mirabel replies
Daphne and Pablo then came up and sighed and hugged her.
"You've been quite busy lately Mija is everything okay?" Héctor asked
She nodded and smiled.
"Everything is fine, work can leave a girl speechless and tired". Mirabel sighed
"Don't we know it". Pablo joined
Mirabel sighed and the rest nodded.
"Anyway Mi vida what's the surprise?" Alma asked
She smiled and look down at her skirt. The family looked at and gasped and then their faces softly turned into smiles.
"Mija How did you-" Pedro asked
"Seamstress Remember ". She reminded
"Right ". He clicked
"Mija That… it's beautiful ". Julio said
"Gracias". She thanked
They all looked at the symbols carefully and saw their each respective one and smiled, Imelda chuckled at hers and Héctor smiled at his as did Rosita, Victoria, Daphne , Coco and the rest of the family .
"I thought it might be a chance for showing off my love for you guys as well as my family, I mean you're my second family.
Coco gave her a tight hug and then in joined the rest of them including her own family.
"You didn't have to Mija ". Héctor said
"No but I wanted to you already have done so much for me and I wanted to repay that love". She smiled
"Mija". Imelda stopped
Mirabel hugged Imelda tight and smiled gently.
"So this is what you have been working on". Daphne smiled
Mirabel nodded.
"Silk?" She asked
"Ah so they don't fray and you can keep them forever". Daphne sighed
"Smart Mija ". Pablo added
"Si". Mirabel replies
Victoria hugged her tight and smiled.
"Well we love it". Victoria said
"Especially since you've got every symbol right". Oscar chuckled
She smiled glad she made everyone happy with her skirt this was her way of showing love and they took it to heart she was more then happy.
"Come sit, you have to tell us about the symbols". Rosita smiled
"Si ". Imelda smirked
So with that she sat down and enjoyed telling them about the skirt and what made her get the idea and she smiled as she told them all the stories she could think of while they listened to everything she said.
