Charmed: Destiny Altered
4x03
Have We Met?
Teaser
[Scene: A cave in the Amazon: Prue paces as an old woman, The Crone stirs a cauldron]
Prue: How long until the potion's done?
Crone: It will be done soon enough. (tilts her head.) Hmmmn
Prue: What?
Crone: You are an intriguing creature.
Prue: What do you mean?
Crone: You've been a Charmed One for three years only to be a replaced by a stranger. A stranger who's claim to the Charmed legacy is stronger than yours. Many people would be out for blood. Yet here you are seeking understanding not vengeance.
[Prue pauses to think.]
Prue: Paige is a Charmed one, more importantly she's my sister. I just need to know if this is right. If this is meant to be. (She smiles bitterly) besides, whitelighters are pacifists.
Crone: But witches are not. Especially Warren witches.
(Prue doesn't respond. The potion emits a puff of smoke. The Crone grabs a wooden cup and ladles some potion into it. As she hands Prue the cup, her eyes become pure white.)
Crone: Mark my words, Prudence Halliwell. You believe your Charmed destiny is over… it has just begun…
(Prue stares then takes the cup and downs the potion. She disappears in twinkling lights. Pan over to the surface of the potion where we can see Paige disappearing in twinkling lights)
Fade to black.
Opening Credits
Act 1
[Scene: Manor. Kitchen. Piper making breakfast, as Phoebe walks in wearing a white robe open to reveal the pink satin camisole with matching pants she wore to bed.]
Phoebe: Good Morning.
Piper: Good morning.
Phoebe: How are you feeling?
Piper: I'm fine. (pause) actually, no I'm not. I just don't understand how all of this can happen. Part of me just wants things to go back to the way things used to be, with Prue being our big sister and we three being the Charmed Ones. But another part of me can't help but feel drawn to Paige, almost as if I've been looking for her without knowing it.
Phoebe: Prue will always be our big sister that's never going to change. But, Piper, we can't ignore the fact that Paige is our sister and a Charmed One. We need to teach her how to use her powers if we have any chance of vanquishing the source.
Piper: You're right. I just wish Prue were here.
(Phoebe walks over to give Piper a hug.)
Phoebe: I know, sweetie.
(Leo orbs in, with a worried expression.)
Leo: We have a problem.
Piper (sarcastically): Cause we don't have enough of those already.
Phoebe: What is it, Leo?
Leo: I can't sense Prue.
Piper: What do you mean you can't sense her? What, like she's blocking your power?
Leo: No, more like she disappeared off my radar. (pause) There's more.
Piper: Of course, because losing a sister isn't enough. What could be worse?
Leo: How about losing two?
Piper: What are you talk-(sighs)…Paige.
Phoebe: Ok, now I'm worried.
Piper: Alright, let's not panic. I think its safe to assume that wherever they are, they're together, and Prue wouldn't let anything happen to one of her sisters…and that includes Paige.
Leo: Either way, you need to find them. Without Prue or Paige, you guys are vulnerable if-
Piper: Don't say it!
Leo: -a demon attacks.
(A loud noise is heard throughout the house.)
Piper: Leo!
(Cut to Living Room. The girls run into see a demon conjure an energyball. He throws it at Phoebe, who levitates over it. Before he can regroup, Piper blows him up.)
Phoebe: You would think after all these years, you'd know how to avoid a jinx, Leo.
[Scene: Halliwell Manor.1920s. Prue and Paige appear in the conservatory. Prue's eyes narrow as she takes in Paige's frightened look.]
Prue (angrily): What the hell are you doing here?
Paige: Funny. I was just asking myself that.
Prue: I was supposed to come back alone.
Paige: Back to where?
[Before Prue can answer, two women walk in and sit down by the window. One his wearing a short blue cocktail dress and besides having a short red bob looks identical to Prue. The second woman has a wavy bun, wearing a black dress and looks identical to Piper.
Paige (whispering): Why are you and Piper dressed like that?
Prue (also whispering): That's not us. Those are our past lives.
Paige: Past lives?
Prue (annoyed): In our past lives, Piper, Phoebe and I were cousins who ran a speakeasy in the manor. Now if you don't mind I'm trying to figure out why we were brought here.
(As they watch, it appears that Prue's past life is comforting Piper's past life, who seems to be very upset about something.)
Priscilla Bowen: Cousin, she gave us no choice.
Patience Baxter: There had to have been another way.
Priscilla Bowen: She was evil, Patience. She tried to kill us and would have continued to try had we not killed her.
Patience Baxter: You know it was always harder for her, Priscilla. Especially after she moved into the manor and became more susceptible.
Paige: Are they talking about Phoebe?
Prue: They talking about her past life, Pearl Russell.
[Cut to Present. Attic. Phoebe is looking through the Book of Shadows as Piper is sitting on the couch waiting. Leo orbs in.]
Leo: The Elders didn't know anything.
Phoebe: There's nothing in the book so far.
Piper: I just don't understand how two people can just vanish into thin air without anybody knowing.
(Phoebe turns a page in the BOS and is hit with a premonition. Prue is standing in front of the Crone drinking from a cup. She disappears and the vision zooms towards the surface of the potion just in time to see Paige disappear. Phoebe opens her eyes and takes a breath.)
Leo: What did you see?
Phoebe (looking at the page): I think I know how we can find them. The Crone. Once a powerful demonic Seer, she renounced ties to either side after the death of her lover. Now she gives spiritual advice to all who seek her counsel.
Piper: Ok, so what does that have to do with Prue and Paige?
Phoebe: In my premonition, Prue was standing in front of this old woman. I think Prue went to see the Crone.
Leo: We find the Crone, we find Prue and Paige.
Piper: Alright, let's go.
(Piper and Phoebe walk out with Leo close behind)
[Cut to 1920s. Prue and Piper are still listening to Priscilla Bowen and Patience Baxter talk.]
Patience Baxter: How are we to keep up the Manor without Pearl.
Priscilla Bowen: I have already made plans for that. We will be giving Pearl's old room to Aunt Brianna's daughter.
Patience Baxter: Aunt Brianna doesn't have a daughter.
Priscilla Bowen: I know that's what we've always thought but I assure you she does. She should be arriving any minute now.
Patience Baxter: How is it that we knew nothing of this girl's existence until now?
Priscilla Bowen: Apparently. Aunt Brianna didn't want the girl to live a life of fighting evil, so she magically concealed the pregnancy and sent the girl to stay with her father.
Patience Baxter: So why return now?
Priscilla Bowen: Recently the girl's father died which unbound her powers, making her detectable to demons and warlocks.
Patience Baxter: I suppose it's all for the best then. What is this cousin's name? What power does she possess?
Priscilla Bowen: Her name is Phoebe Warren. Her power is-
[Before she can finish, twinkling white lights appear in the room quickly taking the form of a young woman.]
Prue (shocked): It can't be…
Paige: Is that…
[The lights disappear to reveal an attractive woman. The camera pans up her body to reveal a somewhat skimpy green dress, blond hair and her face, which is identical to Paige.]
Paige (breathless): Me?
Phoebe Warren (smiling brightly): Hello, Cousins.
Cut to black.
Act Two.
[Scene. Amazon Cave. The Crone is stirring the cauldron when she suddenly looks up. Behind her, orbs appear to reveal Piper, Phoebe and Leo.]
Crone: Right on time.
Piper: If you knew we were coming, then you know why.
Crone: I know why you're here. I also know that I can't help you.
Piper: Listen lady, either you bring back my sister or I will-
Crone: And which sister are you referring to?
[Piper looks away as she realizes what she did. Phoebe steps forward.]
Phoebe: If anything happens to either Prue or Paige, we will vanquish you.
Crone: Your sisters are fine. However, I do not have the power to bring them back.
Piper: You sent them away but you can't bring them back?
Crone: The potion I brewed draws upon the magic of the drinker to open a portal through which they can find the answers they seek. Only when your sister Prue is ready to come back will she and Paige return.
[The sisters exchange worried looks.]
[Cut to a small cottage in the late 1700s. the cottage is furnished sparsely. Prue and Paige appear in the midst of a conversation.]
Paige: How do you not know about the fourth cousin, if you've been to your past lives?
Prue: Phoebe only traveled to the day her past life died. Nobody knew at that point and the girl's name isn't on the family tree.
Paige: So is that the whole point of this? To see my past lives?
(Prue doesn't answer. Suddenly, an older woman walks in with candles. She arranges them in a circle and proceeds to light them with a match. As she turns, Prue's eyes widen.)
Prue (whispering): Grams?
Paige: Who is that?
(Before Prue can answer, the woman, Beatrice Warren, begins to recite a spell from a much thinner BOS.)
Beatrice Warren:
Hear these words,
Hear my cry,
Spirit from the other side.
Come to me,
I summon thee,
Cross now the great divide.
(Lights appear in the circle. Soon they disappear to reveal a dark haired woman in a cream colored gown, who bears a striking resemblance to Phoebe Halliwell.)
Spirit: Mother, you can't keep summoning me here.
Beatrice: Pamela, you need to speak to her.
Pamela: You know it is not permitted for me to see her. Not yet.
Beatrice: It has been 16 years since you've passed. Pamela, your daughter needs to see you.
(Pamela looks away, torn.)
(Cut to present. Halliwell Manor. Living room. Piper, Leo and Phoebe orb in.)
Piper: So what we're just supposed to sit here and wait for Prue to reach inner peace?
Phoebe: We don't have much of a choice, Piper. (Pause) You never answered the Crone's question either.
Piper: What?
Phoebe: Which sister were you referring to?
(Piper sighs as she sinks down on the couch.)
Piper: Phoebe, can we not do this right now?
Phoebe: Actually I think now is the perfect time.
Piper: Look I don't want anything to happen to Paige.
Leo: But?
Piper: But honestly I don't know her. Mentally, I understand that Paige is our sister, but emotionally I'm just not there yet.
Phoebe: I understand. And I'm not saying how you're feeling isn't valid. But, Piper, you're not even trying. Which is baffling to me because you were the most accepting one when I came back to the manor three years ago.
Piper: Well that was different, Phoebe. You're my sister.
Phoebe: So is Paige. You may not have grown up with her but that doesn't make her any less your sister than I am.
Piper (quietly): But it does make Prue less my sister.
Phoebe: Wait, is that what this is about? You think accepting Paige means letting go of Prue?
(Piper looks down and doesn't answer. Leo looks between the two sisters and decides to intervene.)
Leo: Right now we need to focus on getting Prue and Paige back.
Phoebe: How?
Leo: The Crone said the potion draws on the magic of the drinker. Perhaps if you tap into your power as sisters you can bring them back.
(Cut to the late 1700s. Prue and Paige watch as Beatrice and Pamela argue.)
Pamela: Mother, there are rules that must be followed even after death.
Beatrice (angrily): After everything you have been through…after everything you have put this family through…now is not the time to worry about rules.
Pamela: You know I never meant to hurt anybody. I was in love.
Beatrice: Of course, sweetheart, but your actions have consequences. She's going through a rough time and if we continue to shield her from the truth, it will only get worse.
Pamela: How do I explain to my beautiful, wonderful little girl that her father was a demon?
Beatrice: She is not a little girl anymore, Pamela.
(At that moment, a book on a nearby table falls, seemingly on its own. Beatrice and Pamela exchange worried looks.)
Beatrice (sternly): Passion! How many times have I told you about using your powers to spy on people?
(Next to the table, a teenage girl, shimmers into view. She stands immediately, but keeps her head down so her long bright auburn hair covers her face.)
Passion: I meant no harm, Gran. I only wished to see my mother.
Pamela: I'm here, Passion.
Passion: Is it true? Am I really half evil?
Pamela: Of course not, sweetheart.
Passion: I have always felt different. I have always felt like I did not belong in this family.
Pamela: Never think that! No matter who your father is, you are a Warren. Your place has always been and will always be with this family.
Beatrice: Your mother is right, dear.
(Passion sniffs and finally raises her head. Prue's eyes narrow as Paige's eyes widens. Her hair parts to reveal a face identical to Paige.)
Passion (smiling): Blessed be, Mother.
Cut to Black.
Act 3
[Scene. 1692. A village square. People are gathered around what appears to be a pyre. Prue and Paige appear once again in mid conversation.]
Paige: Let me guess. Like Phoebe Warren, Passion also is not on the family tree.
Prue: Well it's usually best to keep the forbidden love child of a demon and a witch secret.
(The sisters laugh sharing the first genuine moment. Suddenly the crowd starts getting loud, causing Prue and Paige to take in their surroundings.)
Paige: Where are we now?
Prue (slowly): I think I know where we are…
(Paige looks at Prue, and then follows her eyesight to see a young blond woman being dragged to the pyre. They turn to the sound of a young girl crying at the side of older woman)
Woman: Hush, Prudence.
Paige: Prudence?
(She looks to Prue silently asking.)
Prue: The daughter of Melinda Warren, the ancestor who prophesied the birth of the Charmed Ones.
Paige: So that's Melinda Warren. She looks kind of old to have a daughter that young.
Prue (quietly): That woman is not Melinda Warren. She's probably Eva, the midwife who helped Melinda Warren's mother give birth to her. (she pauses) You know, she kinda looks like you just a blond older version.
Paige: Well if she's not Melinda Warren, then where is she?
(Prue looks to the pyre with a sad look. Paige looks and then, with a horrified gasp, catches on. The crowd gets quiet as an older man steps up with a bearing a club on fire.)
Man: Melinda Warren, you have been charged and found guilty of witchcraft. Any last words?
Melinda Warren: You may kill me, but you cannot kill my kind. I vow that each generation of Warren witches will grow stronger, culminating in the arrival of three sisters. These three sisters will be the most powerful witches the world has ever known. They will be good witches and vanquish all kinds of evil. They will be known as the Charmed Ones.
(The crowd lets out an angry roar. Eva picks Prudence up and rushes off before they are seen. Melinda watches them sadly, then, as if drawn by an unknown force, looks directly at Prue and Paige. She begins to laugh and the crowd again quiets.)
Melinda Warren: Even on this day I have great joy for I have foreseen something wondrous. As with the Warren line, Evil will grow stronger and stronger, but just when it seems all hope is lost, a fourth sister will appear. With her, the Charmed Ones will have power the likes of which the world has never seen.
Paige (whispering): How can she see us?
(Before Prue can answer the man with the burning club speaks.)
Man: Burn, witch!
(He throws the club onto the pyre, which immediately erupts in flames. Melinda Warren screams as the fire consumes her. Paige covers her mouth, and instinctively turns to cry against Prue. Prue is surprised and awkward at first, but quickly wraps her arms around Paige to comfort her just as she would Piper or Phoebe. After a moment, they disappear in twinkling lights.)
Melinda Warren (voice): Blessed be, my daughters.
(Cut to the present. Attic. Piper and Phoebe are flipping through the BOS when Prue and Paige appear still embraced. Phoebe rushes forward, while Piper hangs back with a guarded look.)
Phoebe: Thank God, you guys are ok? What happened?
(Prue and Paige look each other.)
Paige: It's a long story.
Piper: Why didn't you come to us?
(The sisters turn to Piper, who still hasn't moved.)
Prue: I just needed to figure some things out, but after today things are a lot more clear. (she turns to Paige) Paige, I know this hasn't been easy on all of us but whether you're Phoebe, Passion or Eva, your place is still and will always be with this family.
Phoebe: Alright, as tender as this moment is, you two have a lot of explaining to do.
Prue: You know what? Why don't we all go out to eat and just talk?
Paige: That would be great.
(They turn to leave with Paige in front and Phoebe last. At the door, Phoebe turns to see that Piper still hasn't moved.)
Phoebe: Piper, you coming?
Piper: I think I'm going to sit this one out. You and Prue go ahead.
Phoebe: Piper,-
Piper: Phoebe, I'm just not ready.
(Phoebe stares for a second, gives a sad smile, then turns and leaves. As soon as she's gone, Piper sinks into the sofa and begins to cry softly.)
(Cut to the Amazon Cave. The Crone is stirring the cauldron, when the Source flames in.)
Source: I need to know what the witches saw.
Crone: They did not see. They do not know, but the secret of the Warren line will be revealed.
Source: Will it interfere with my plans?
Crone: They won't know until it is already too late.
(Camera pans to the surface of the potion, where we see a scene from "All Halliwell's Eve." )
Charlotte: I promise my daughter will know of you. Of the three powerful witches who came to bring her into this world. And we'll always be grateful, won't we Melinda?
Piper: Melinda?
Charlotte: Yes, Melinda. Melinda Warren.
Phoebe: Oh.
Charlotte: What is it?
Phoebe: I uh... I think we're related.
(The vortex opens and the girls get sucked into it. Charlotte smiles at Melinda, when suddenly She cries in pain. Eva rushes to grab Melinda.)
Charlotte: What is happening?!
(Eva passes the baby to a nearby midwife. She kneels to look over Charlotte. When she pulls back, she has a shocked look on her face.)
Eva: There's another baby.
Cut to Black
