News had quickly spread throughout southern Thedas of the fall of the Inquisition, and of its Inquisitor. The Chantry, however, shrugged it off as mere rumor, until Divine Victoria launched a full investigation. Her spies uncovered that the harrowing rumors were indeed true along with the occupation of Skyhold now under enemy control. The people and chantry urged the Divine to enact a full Exalted March upon the base, but their pleas became silent once the Divine herself had disappeared sparking the thoughts of many that dark days were clouding over Thedas once more.
Dragon Age: Ascension
Chapter 2
Denix Cousland, the Warden Commander had made his return back into Ferelden after years of searching for a cure to the calling. He was accompanied by his loyal and faithful mabari, Max and his bicorn steed, Voltor. Along with the Warden was a dwarf named Jardol and his trusty bronto, Bane. Denix and company made their way into the city of Denerim where he had an estate up by the royal castle.
"How much further until we reach this house of yours? There's only so much my feet can carry me," Jardol muttered.
"You dwarves and your short little dwarven problems," Denix snickered.
"Humph, big talk coming from a human," the dwarf countered back.
"Yes, just specifically to annoy you my short little friend," the Warden teased with a laugh. "We have not far to go just up ahead to my house," Denix added.
"Maker's breath!" Jardol gazed with bewilderment.
Denix's estate was a vast sight big in square footage to where it even made an Earl reap with jealousy. Of course the Warden could afford such a large estate specially when one sits close within the King's royal court and being the Hero of Ferelden comes with nice perks too.
"Yeah, it's something alright, but I call it home when I'm here that is," Denix responded.
"Woof," Max barked in agreement.
The group rounded to the back of Denix's estate towards the stables where they would stall in Volter and Bane. Jardol noticed a quick movement from a nearby window within sight that someone was in the house. Denix and Jardol moved cautiously up towards the closest entrance only for the door to open wide in front of them.
"It's you! You've returned!" shouted the intruder.
"Anders!?" Denix asked with confusion and shock. "So this is where you've taken refuge all these years after what you've done in Kirkwall? I should have known you would wind up here," Denix suspected.
"I was hoping to find you here, but you weren't and I had nowhere else to go so I stayed," Anders explained. "I had hoped that you would have understood why I did what I did," he continued.
"Understand? Anders, you blew up a Chantry and started a war. The act you brought I can't, but your plight for freedom that I had," Denix responded.
"So does that mean you aren't going to turn me in?" Anders asked wittly.
"Perhaps I should, however, I never abandoned my friends. Even though what you did, I know you believe it to be just and I'll leave it at that," Denix replied heavily.
"So if the mage gets off easy by your standards for destroying a chantry then I should be able to destroy all of Orzammar no problem," Jardol piped in.
"What!" he yelled in response after both Denix and Anders looked at him in disbelief.
"Do that dwarf and I will show you exactly what the stone looks like," Denix said, darting his eyes down upon his dwarven friend with a smirk.
"I can never tell if you humans are ever serious or joking," Jardol whimpered.
"Well this human needs to refresh and eat," Denix stated, referring to himself.
"About that. You may need to go to the market first," Anders insisted.
Denix put a hand over his face realizing Anders had eaten all of his stocked up food. Not a moment's notice went by for a new kind of trouble to stir up within the house. The party quickly rushed inside to see a woman appearing out of a rift-like portal. She appeared to have pale skin and long blonde hair with a very calming appearance as she stared upon the group.
"Denix, the Hero of Ferelden and Grey Warden. You are summoned to save this world once again," the woman spoke as she pointed at him.
"Whoa, hold on here. Who are you and who sent you?" Denix demanded.
"My apologies Warden, I am a spirit of destiny and on the matter of whom sent me to task you is simply of your own fate and destiny coming together," said the spirit. "There is a great threat looming over all of Thedas and it needs your help to stop it," she continued.
"I've never heard of a spirit of destiny?" Anders questioned.
"My kind are rare and never seek mortals' attention," the spirit replied.
"I'm not sure if you are aware that I'm done with the whole hero thing and that there is a greater equipped Inquisition that can handle this supposed threat better than I," Denix declared.
"The Inquisition has fallen as well as its Inquisitor already by this threat," the spirit stated.
"I'm sorry, I find it hard to believe that a powerful organization like the Inquisition would easily fall to enemy hands," Denix said skeptically.
"This threat is not like any other Warden, but with every enemy into one," the spirit invoked.
"You keep saying 'this threat' what is it exactly?" The Warden questioned sternly.
"Imagine all the world's greatest evils all united under a single banner. Darkspawn, Demons, undead, red templars, blood mages and more together that is the threat. We call it the Blacken Incursion and its one goal is to destroy everything in their waking path," the spirit explained.
"Impossible," Denix claimed. "Look, I don't know what scam you trying to pull here, but I'm done with this game and even if a quarter of this is remotely true like I said I'm done with the hero getup I left the blight behind me in the past where it belongs now I'm focusing on my life the way I should be able too," Denix heated heavily before turning his back to the spirit.
"If words can't convince you then perhaps your own eyes will," the spirit embarked as she connected her hands together then apart releasing a wave of green energy towards the Warden.
The Warden quickly turned towards the spirit as the energy surrounded him, slowly shifting the scene of his estate into a burning ruin following with the sight of Denerim under siege and destruction. Bodies of his friends and family laid not far from him covered in blood and wounds among other victims. He fell in torment as darkspawn, demons, red templars and blood mages all took in the slaughtering and destruction he was witnessing. His final sight was that of a hurlock charging in his direction striking him down. The Warden opened his eyes as he was down on his knees shaken to the very core breathing heavily as sweat dripped down his face. His surroundings all back to normal around him with the spirit in front of him as both Anders and Jardol wondered what exactly she did to him.
"What? What did you do to me?" Denix asked under huffed breaths.
"I only showed you what your destiny would look like if you choose not to take up arms against the Blacken Incursion, however, this does not have to pass unless you side by your destiny," the spirit insisted. "I am here to insure your future as well as many others Warden," the spirit pleaded.
"Denix, what happened?" Jardol asked with concern.
"We can answer that," said a woman standing in the entrance with a man right next to her.
Denix got back up to his feet and turned to realize whose voice that was.
"Leliana? Alistair? You both are here?," the Warden noted in confusion.
"It appears you got the same mind plant as we did, how lucky we are," Alistair said jokingly.
"Speak for yourself, one of us had the mind to actually look into this," Leliana retorted.
As this all turns out the spirit of destiny had gone to appeal with Leliana first knowing she in fact would get the facts and proof of the Blacken Incursion. Once all in hand Leliana left her post as Divine to rejoin with the Warden against the threat. Alistar on the other hand needed a more insightful conviction much like the Warden. Shortly after Denix was now officially on board to face the threat with seeing both the proof and insight of the threat at hand.
"I assume there is a plan to all this then," Denix inquisitive.
"Indeed, there are some steps and other requirements that will be needed; they are as followed," the spirit began. "We will need to find the schematic of a powerful weapon then forge it," she added.
"Where do we find that?" Alistar asked. "Ha, where else do you find powerful weapons in the deep roads of course," Jardel mocked.
"Correct," agreed the spirit. "Wait seriously," Jardol responded with surprise.
"We will also need to find the phoenix," the spirit continued.
"So we need to go to the Western Approach then?" Denix figured.
"We will be needing the real phoenix. The ones in the Western Approach are false errors in an attempt to bring back a real one by the days of old and there's a rumor that Starkhaven may house its ashes," the spirit stated. "Upon that we will also need aid from the great dragon which is also lost it seems," she added in continuation.
"Oh, I see how I already fit into this role now thanks," Alistair said with distaste.
"Even when we have all those we will still need to build an army to match against the Blacken Incursion," the spirit said, adding more weight to the cause.
"That's actually the easy part there. I still have contacts I can reach out to apart from being the Warden Commander," Denix started. "I have command of the grey wardens within Ferelden and let's not forget all my ties to Orzammar. I can also reach out to some mage contacts as well with the werewolves too," Denix stated directly.
"As Divine I can use my contacts within the chantry and Alistair as king has command of the Ferelden army," Leliena pointed out.
"I think reaching out to Branka may also be worth trying," Denix stated.
"She locked herself far within the Deep Roads with the anvil and golems, did she not?" Leliena replied.
"All the more why we should pay her a visit," said a deep, heavy voice followed by two loud steps.
Of course it could be the one and only golem, Shale as she made her presence known to the group. She looked completely the same as before like when they first met, however, Shale seemed to have lost the crystals she had during the fifth blight. Shale was also not alone upon her arrival as a bright bluish ball of light was hovering by her side.
"Willow, welcome back and thank you for guiding Shale here to us," said the spirit of destiny.
Willow is a lightning wisp and a dear friend to the spirit of destiny, who was tasked to find and guide Shale back to the Warden's side to aid him yet again. Shale was then up to date with the status quo and too fully on board. After a while the group took time to catch up and meet one another. Anders however, felt out of place and gestured the warden over for a talk.
"Are you sure about this? I mean all of it?" Anders started asking.
"Why, it's not like you are planning on joining," the warden retorted. "Wait, you want to, is that it?," the warden asked cunningly.
"I need to make up for my sins and if I can partake in this I think-" Anders started.
"You are already involved in this Anders and if it's redemption you want then that's for you to find, otherwise of course you can join," Denix approved.
"Then my cat can come too, right?" Anders asked bluntly. "Cat? You mean Sir Pounce Aot," Denix assumed.
"No, my new cat. Her name is Grace and speaking of which here she is," Anders answered as he picked up his cat.
Grace had a full white coat of hair apart from her head which was covered in black, but it was her eyes that made her stand out with one being blue in the right and green in her left. Denix also felt something strange about her like a synergy radiating around her, but chose not to inquire about it. Denix and company took to the night at his estate before making the plans for the next day. Denix and Leliana took time alone in his private quarters for each other's much needed company.
"Tomorrow we start an all new journey yet again to save the world," Denix pondered as he laid in bed.
"Yes and together again this time. We have to do this before it gets worse and others will follow you. It's not all on your shoulders I promise you that," Leliana consoled him.
Denix didn't say anything back other than nodded to her in agreement then fell asleep. The following morning Denix and Leliana woke to the sound of laughter and heavy chatting down the main hall. Upon investigating they both saw everyone else was up with an extra person in their midst. It was an elven man with blonde hair and had a very distinct voice that was very hard to miss. Denix and the elf locked eyes with both shock and excitement.
"And here I thought I was the start of the party not the end of it, As it appears you should have invited me hours ago," the elf queried.
"Well the inventions were a little short handed you understand I'm sure," Denix retorted jokingly. "But I'm glad you made it nonetheless, Zevran," he added.
"Ah yes with all this doom and gloom over our heads facing all the evils known to us in one army how could I say no to such an idea it sounds almost romantic no," Zevran replied perkishly. "It is good to see the old gang back together or to those of us that are here that is," Zevran added lightly.
"Well Oghren is a family man so it just seems fair that he is with them. Sten being the Arishok means he has a higher purpose within the Qun. Wynne is unfortunately not with us anymore, may the Maker bless her. As for Morrigan, well I don't know she's always been one for her own needs and purposes," Denix explained.
Denix and a few others made their way over to the market district to pick up supplies that would be needed for the journey that's to come. He went to The Wonders of Thedas shop for some mystic items while Jardal went to see about some arms and armor. Leliana went to stop at the local chantry for spiritual aid. Once everyone was done with they're errands they regrouped back at Denix's estate. Denix entered his room only to dig out his arms and armor that he thought he would never have to use again. Suited, armed and packed the warden was ready to start his new quest to again save the world. The party made good progress getting through the city up until reaching outside the city gates when Alistar suddenly made a stop.
"Do we actually have a plan going forward to where we're going first?" Alistar asked to which everyone looked at him realizing they had not.
Before any new comments could be said in response from anyone else a voice came in sound from who was not from the party.
"Well, well. What have we here,"

Dawn Of the Blacken Incursion
Chapter 2
(A/N I know it's been a very long awaited update for this story and for that I highly am sorry. When I wrote the first chapter for this story I didn't realize I would be starting it when bad timing in my life would start to unfold soon after thus why there was such a long pause a lot was due to many personal reasons. I also took a lot of time to repurposed the story in its direction so a lot of changes were also made in the years following. So the good news is I'm back and I'm finally ready to show this story in full glory that it so rightly deserves and I hope many of you are ready to be blown away for what's all to come.)
