Chapter 67
A few days ago, Grace and Viola were enjoying a quiet afternoon while sipping delicious tea. The setting was idyllic in their mansion, until an unexpected gentleman entered the gates.
Things were far from simple. William Thatcher, still convalescing from his injuries, remained at Hope Valle, determined to make up for lost time at the side of his depraved daughter, whose behavior had been a source of constant concern.
Grace watched with surprise as the gentleman, whose presence was unexpected at that moment, crossed the garden. His countenance was serious, and she noticed a tension in the air that hadn't been there before. Viola, for her part, raised her eyebrows in curiosity, ready for any unexpected developments.
The visitor approached with an expression that mixed concern and determination. He was a man of imposing stature, dressed impeccably, but his eyes carried a story of their own. He addressed Grace with a respectful bow.
- Mrs. Thatcher, I apologize for arriving unannounced, but there is an urgent matter I need to discuss with you.
Grace raised an eyebrow, surprised by the formality and serious tone of her visitor. She glanced quickly at Viola, who maintained an imperturbable countenance, but her eyes revealed a growing curiosity.
- Please come in, sir...? Grace invited, hoping to fill in the blank with her name.
- Mr. Ashford, at your service," he replied, entering the mansion with a firm but courteous step.
The tension in the air was palpable as the three of them made their way to the living room, where they could settle into comfortable chairs around a coffee table. Grace felt a shiver run down her spine, preparing herself for what was to follow.
- Mr. Ashford, please, what brings you here so unexpectedly and solemnly? Grace asked, maintaining her composure, but with growing unease.
The man took out an envelope from inside his jacket and handed it to Grace with a serious expression.
- I received this a few days ago and felt obliged to bring it to you personally. It is a matter relating to Hope Valle and requires your immediate attention.
Grace took the envelope cautiously, feeling the symbolic weight of what she was about to open. She slid the contents out and began to read, her face going through a series of emotions as she absorbed the information contained therein.
And so it was that Grace was visited by Wade, Mr. Ashford, who turned out to be her legal representative. Ignoring any reservations about the man's character, Grace was focused solely on the opportunity he brought with him. She didn't care who Wade was, as long as he could offer a plan to carry out his revenge against Elizabeth. This was the moment for Grace to take control of the Thatcher family, showing everyone who she really was.
Wade's proposed plan was tempting. It offered a clear route for Grace to take command of the situation and ensure that both her daughter and William were under her thumb. She knew that this was her chance to show her true strength and determination, making it clear that she would not be underestimated by anyone else.
Grace accepted Wade's proposal without hesitation. She was determined to go ahead with her revenge plan, willing to take on the role of leader of the Thatcher family and make everyone obey her orders. It was time to show everyone that she was not just a strong woman, but a ruthless matriarch who would do anything to protect her interests and secure her position of power.
With renewed confidence and a plan in hand, Grace was ready to face the challenges that lay ahead. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was willing to fight with all her might to achieve her goals and secure her revenge on Elizabeth. The battle for leadership of the Thatcher family had only just begun, and Grace was determined to emerge victorious.
Anger boiled inside Grace, consuming her like an uncontrollable fire. The news of Julia and Charles eloping to get married was like a stab in her already wounded heart. She couldn't accept the idea that Elizabeth hadn't chosen Charles as her husband. It was inconceivable to Grace that her eldest daughter would allow such a situation to occur.
Julia, the younger and often irresponsible sister, was the initial target of Grace's wrath. How could she be so reckless as to run off with Charles and marry on the sly? The young woman seemed completely out of her mind, a child in an adult body, incapable of understanding the consequences of her actions.
However, for Grace, the real culprit behind all this tragedy was Elizabeth. As a mother, she expected Elizabeth to follow the path she herself had set out, marrying Charles and ensuring the stability and prosperity of the family. Elizabeth's refusal to do so was an unforgivable betrayal in Grace's eyes.
The situation only got worse when Charles' family decided to disinherit him after his elopement and marriage to Julia, the "wrong daughter". Grace saw this as a direct consequence of Elizabeth's choice not to marry Charles. She blamed Elizabeth not only for Julia and Charles' elopement, but also for the disgrace that had befallen her suitor's family.
Grace's anger was fueled by a sense of injustice and betrayal. She felt that Elizabeth had ruined not only her own chances of happiness, but also those of her younger sister and even Charles' family. The hurt and resentment built up inside her, turning into an implacable determination to make Elizabeth pay for what she had done.
As the emotional turmoil settled in her heart, Grace knew she wouldn't rest until she found a way to make Elizabeth face the consequences of her actions. The war between mother and daughter was just beginning, and Grace was determined to emerge victorious, whatever the cost.
On top of everything that had already happened, Grace now had an additional reason to harbor hatred for Elizabeth. That young woman had somehow managed to persuade her own father. William Thatcher, though weakened by his injuries and temporarily estranged, had given his lawyers clear instructions: to return Elizabeth's right to inherit.
The news struck Grace and Viola like a thunderbolt. "How could they accept such an outcome? "For them, this was an unforgivable affront, a supreme betrayal on William's part and, above all, confirmation that Elizabeth continued to exercise her power over the family patriarch.
Grace and Viola would never accept this decision. After all, it was Elizabeth's fault that the whole family had been damaged. The young woman had broken ties with Charles, causing her own mother's anger and leading Charles' family to disinherit him. Now, she was being rewarded for her actions, while Grace and Viola were left on the sidelines, as if their own pain and sacrifices didn't matter.
Grace's anger overflowed, fueled by the sense of injustice and the open wound that Elizabeth continued to inflict. "How could she allow her own father to inflict more pain and suffering on her family?" Grace refused to accept it.
Viola shared the same feeling of indignation. Together, mother and daughter were united in their determination to fight this injustice. They knew it wouldn't be easy to defy William's will and the powerful legal resources at Elizabeth's disposal, but they were willing to face any obstacle in their quest for justice.
