Chapter 192 The Locket Of Slytherin
"Do not think Kreacher does not know, the young master wants to take the tapestry..." "I will do nothing, and no one wants anything to do with that musty tapestry," Sirius shouted, "Enough Kreacher! Before I can't help but kill you, go, now!"
Kreacher shuffled his feet and stepped aside. He dared not disobey a direct order.
Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and Evan passed by Kreacher one by one. It was dreadful. He stood there, looking at them with reddened eyes. His gaze was filled with deep hatred.
Their gazes seemed like a curse cast upon them.
"Sirius, he is not in his right mind," pleaded Hermione, "I don't think he realizes we can hear him."
"That one understands everything, but he has been alone for too long. Since my mother died, he has not been in contact with anyone else," said Sirius, "I suspect he has been following crazy orders from my mother's portrait and talking to himself, but he was always a little..."
"If only you would free him!" said Hermione hopefully, "perhaps..."
"The shock... would kill him," Black explained, "You don't know house-elves, Hermione. They have to serve the wizarding family for generations, and Kreacher's family history of serving the Black family goes back through the centuries. He cannot leave. If you doubt it, you can try and suggest he should leave this house, see how he takes it."
Sirius, Harry, and Hermione were talking, and their figures vanished down the dark corridor.
Evan hesitated for a moment and stayed. He wanted to ask Kreacher about the Locket of Slytherin.
He observed him closely, and Kreacher gazed back silently.
Kreacher did not speak. If it weren't for his chest moving as he breathed, Evan wouldn't have known he was alive.
"Kreacher, I have a question for you, about..."
"The filthy brat wants to talk to Kreacher. Shame. The young master took the other two brats to see the Black family collection. Kreacher must report to the Mistress about this."
Kreacher bowed again to Evan, his face full of disdain and disgust.
Then he took the thick, dusty green tapestry and departed from the basement, as if heading towards Mrs. Black's portrait in the upper hallway.
Evan's eyes followed him until he left the basement.
He sighed. In the current situation, it was very difficult to communicate with Kreacher. Normal communication was out of the question, let alone asking him about the Locket of Slytherin. It was impossible.
The house was very large, and Evan wanted to find it himself.
In his mind, he tried to recall the details related to that Horcrux. After Voldemort turned the Locket of Slytherin into a Horcrux, he hid it in a cave on a remote island far from Hogwarts, where he placed the locket at the bottom of a basin, and then used a spell to fill the basin with potions that made anyone who tried to drink them feel like they were in hell. And it was done in a way that the Locket could only be accessed after drinking the empty basin.
Voldemort borrowed Kreacher from Regulus Black, Sirius's younger brother, and used the house-elf to test the defenses of the Locket.
Through Kreacher, Regulus went to the cave to retrieve the Locket.
He turned against Voldemort and prepared to thwart his plans. He drank the potions and placed a fake locket in the container. Then, he instructed Kreacher to take the Locket and escape without him and find a way to destroy the Horcrux. When he tried to draw water from the lake to quench his thirst, he was dragged to his death by the Inferi, and his body remained there forever.
The Locket was taken by Kreacher, but he could not destroy it.
One could transform a very ordinary object into a Horcrux. However, once a part of the user's soul is infused into it, turning it into one, that object becomes the most malevolent object of dark magic in the world. The incredible power of dark magic used to create it renders the Horcrux almost indestructible.
Now, Slytherin's Locket is hidden in the house by the house-elf Kreacher.
Evan thought carefully and recalled other details.
Kreacher couldn't destroy this Horcrux. Later, Mundungus Fletcher stole it and sold it to Umbridge. Harry infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and found Umbridge carrying the locket. Ron eventually destroyed it with Gryffindor's sword.
Additional details, the most important ones, like the location of the locket in the Black house at that time were unknown to Evan.
He pondered over it but couldn't recall anything else.
However, he mustn't be too hasty. He needed to be cautious. This matter was not overly frustrating. He only needed to inform Dumbledore that the locket in the cave was fake. With that, the headmaster would no longer have to risk his life by drinking those evil potions.
Evan snapped out of his reverie and began preparing to descend with Sirius, Harry, and Hermione. But just then, he stopped.
God, what did he see?
Suddenly, he saw what he had been searching for, Voldemort's Horcrux, Slytherin's Locket. The golden pendant lay quietly in the cabinet before him, one particularly ugly. Silverware and the locket were placed around, less than two meters away.
It was undoubtedly it. When Evan traveled back in time, he saw this locket around Slytherin's neck.
At the top of the golden pendant was a sinuous S, embedded with gleaming green stones. It was the distinctive emblem of Slytherin House.
Evan could not hold back and pounced on it. He couldn't help clenching his fists. He should have thought about where a house-elf might hide things!
He looked around and saw no one...
Evan swallowed hard. It seemed as if he had anticipated something like this happening since he always carried the Basilisk fang with him.
This was his chance to destroy this Horcrux once and for all.
He walked towards it, hands sweaty with tension.
Slowly, he opened the rusted cabinet door and reached for the locket.
Next to Slytherin's locket was a spider-shaped pair of tongs with multiple legs.
At the precise moment Evan advanced, it seemed as though the tongs had sensed something. Suddenly, they came to life and leaped onto his arm, crawling like a spider and trying to pierce his skin.
