Smythe was left walking aimlessly along the street, her mind consumed with thoughts of the past. As she walked, she happened to spot a group of televisions in a shop window that were broadcasting an interview with the Avengers. Her heart sank when she saw that Vicky, a woman she knew from her past, was the one conducting the interview. Smythe knew that Vicky had always been ambitious, but seeing her achieve such a high level of success only served to highlight Smythe's own failures.
A deep sense of bitterness and anger welled up inside Smythe as she watched the interview. She wanted nothing more than to be in Vicky's position, but instead, she was left on the streets with nothing to her name. In a fit of frustration, Smythe let out a piercing scream that echoed through the air. To her horror, the scream was so powerful that it shattered the glass of the shop window and destroyed all the televisions.
Smythe was shocked by what she had done. She had never experienced anything like this before. She was afraid and confused. Without a second thought, she turned and ran, desperate to figure out what was happening to her.
The next day after the whole Livewire fiasco, Peter was back at CatCo and saw Vicky going over the footage that she got from her interviews with the Avengers. He saw the relief on her face because she had accomplished the task Grant had given them.
"I can't believe it actually happened," Vicky said with relief. "The Avengers agreed to an interview."
"Just glad this means you get to keep your job." Peter to,d her with a smile.
"Pretty interesting stuff here," Vicky informed him. "You know Thor actually owns a flat in Australia?"
"Huh. That explains the accent." Peter commented.
Outside of CatCo, Smythe was walking down the street when she saw the building and got a piercing headache. She winced and clutched her ears, wondering what was happening. But then she figured she knew what was going on when she turned back to CatCo. She was mad about Peter Parker and Cat Grant getting her to lose her job and marched into the doors.
When she made it to the floor where Peter worked, she made her way through the elevator doors and marched through the floor. She was getting odd looks from everyone as it seemed that they all wondered what she was doing there. Cat didn't seem to care any mind as she only sighed when she saw Smythe.
"Someone, call security. I haven't seen eyes that crazy since I had fondue with Ramona Singer." Cat didn't even take her eyes off her phone.
"Siobhan." Peter stopped her from entering Cat's office. "I'm sorry, but you can't be here."
"You ruined my life, Peter Parker," Smythe stated in anger.
Vicky and Winn watched the exchange from a small distance away and wondered what her plan was. Peter felt his senses alerting him something was going to happen and he immediately used his watch to send out an Avengers distress signal for backup. He couldn't risk changing into Spider-Man in the middle of his workplace. As everyone was watching, Smythe let out an ear-piercing screech that ended up sending a shockwave that sent Peter flying out the window.
"Peter!" Vicky cried in terror.
Peter was knocked unconscious by the sound wave and even if he was awake knew he couldn't change in midair. Luckily for him, he wasn't alone in the hero business anymore. Janet came flying in her shrunken form as she flew her way upward grabbed ahold of Peter's collar and tried to slow down his descent towards the ground.
"Guys, I need some help!" Janet cried in terror. "I can't hold him!"
That was thankfully when Hank came in to help the situation. Hank enlarged himself so that all he needed to do was stick his hand out and catch Peter as he was falling. Peter landed safely in Hank's hand and Janet enlarged to normal size so she could see what happened.
"Uh, we gotta take him back to the mansion," Janet said in fear.
Peter groaned as he started to wake back up and looked around to see he was surrounded by his Avenger friends. He groaned and heard his ears were still ringing, causing him to wince and grab his ears.
"Ow!" Peter groaned. "What the hell happened?"
"We were hoping that you could tell us." Hank said as he looked over his injuries. "Your ears were bleeding by the time we got you here."
"What?" Peter asked, his hearing being muffled.
Hank sighed and saw that was to be expected. "Never mind. His hearings should return soon."
"Peter, can you tell us what happened?" Janet asked, raising her voice slightly to try and get through to him.
"Uh, I was at work and then Smythe came in and...screamed," Peter recalled with a loud tone.
"She screamed?" Logan asked with a scoff. "That's it?"
"Yeah, when we got there, it looked like a sonic boom went off," Steve commented.
"She has this sort of power." Peter tried to explain. "I think she's still angry with me about getting her fired."
"Yeah, I can see that," Hank said as he looked over the data. "Your powers are the only reason you didn't not only shatter into a crisp but also the only reason you're still able to even slightly hear us."
"Okay, so we gotta deal with this girl?" Logan asks.
"Well, she already went after Peter." Steve knew they couldn't leave her alone. "She literally attempted to murder a man."
"So, we get to kick her ass?" Janet was happy to hear that. "Good. Nobody gets to hurt my friends and get away with it."
"How do we do that exactly?" Hank asked her. "We don't know where she's going or going after next."
"I can help with that," Peter spoke out loudly. "She wants revenge on me, the best bet is she saw that you guys saved me, and will wanna try again. If she doesn't go after Cat first."
"Alright, what are you proposing?" Steve asks.
"Use me as bait," Peter told them. "Shadow me, let me go about my day, and wait for her to strike."
"What?" Logan couldn't believe him. "She nearly took your ears off, and you're already ready to go round two with her?"
"If we don't find her, there's a chance she might go after someone else I care about to get back at me." Peter proclaimed. "We gotta stop her. If putting me on the front lines is our best bet, we gotta take it."
"He's right." Steve sighed. "I don't like it, but he's right. But there are other places she could be, so we better split up the work."
"What do you think we should do, Captain?" Thor wonders.
"Janet, you stay with Parker," Steve told them the plan. "Hank, we need a way to stop her from shattering our eardrums when we do face her."
"I can workshop something." Hank complied.
"Janet, shadow Parker in the meantime," Steve asks of Janet. "If Smythe shows her face, either fight or run."
"Shouldn't be too difficult." Janet shrugged and gave Peter a smug smile. "Sounds like you and I are gonna be spending the day together."
Peter was a little worried about this. "What?"
Ironically, it wasn't revenge that Smythe was after just yet as like the Avengers, she was also seeking answers to what was going on and went to the only person she could guess. She went to find her family member, her aunt, with the rest of her family either dead or out of the city.
"Well, how is my least hated niece?" Her aunt asks.
Smythe smiled and hugged her aunt in worry. "I need your help."
He'd aunt then broke the hug as she seemed to guess what was wrong. "You hear her calling you. Whispering?"
"Yes. What is it?" Smythe wonders.
"The Banshee."
Peter and Janet were now in the elevator making their way up the elevator back to the floor where just an hour ago he was flung from. His ears had finally returned to semi-normal, as Peter was constantly rubbing them in pain.
"Yeah, you know, I can still hear a bit of humming, is that normal?" Peter asked as they exited the elevator.
"Considering what happened, yeah, I'm gonna guess and say that's normal," Janet stated as they exited the elevator.
The second that they stepped off, Peter was crushed by Vicky running and engulfing him with a hug. "Oh, I'm so glad you're okay!" She stated with relief. "When we saw you fall, we weren't sure-" Then she noticed Janet and backed off. "Oh, uh, hi. I don't believe we've met."
"Janet Van Dyne." Janet introduced herself and shook Vicky's hand.
"Vicky Vale." Vicky introduced as she shook Janet's hand.
"I know. Peter's told me a lot about you." Janet stated, getting Peter to look annoyed. "What? Was that a secret?"
Vicky was a little confused and looked to Peter. "So, what happened? You get thrown out a window and come back to work an hour later? Why didn't you call?"
"Well, I could barely hear when I was saved by J-the Wasp." Peter almost blew Janet's secret there. "Janet here is my emergency contact, so she was who came to my rescue."
"Parker," Cat called, getting them to look toward her office. "You're alive."
"Yes, Ms. Grant," Peter confirmed as he walked into her office. "I was rescued. I am safe and well."
"Stop stating the obvious," Cat tells him. "You're in the middle of breaking news, now act like it. And yes, yes, another one of my ex-employees went all revenge. I am also sensing a pattern. But whatever this is, it is news." Then she looked over towards Janet. "And who are you?"
"This is Janet. She's a friend." Peter covered for her. "Doctors said someone should keep an eye on me, just in case anything happened. Told me to take it easy."
"Well, if you are going to be useless and unable to snap pictures of this new threat - I was thinking of calling her the Shriek - then get out. Go home. Do whatever the doctor told you to do." Cat tells him. "But remember this. There are a lot of people who wanna know what happened. Speak to no one. I'll let you know when you should reveal this exclusive information. Now, go."
Peter and Janet nodded as they walked off, Peter seeing he got the day off headed towards the elevator. Vicky watched them leave and looked toward Winn. "He ever met ion her to you?" She wonders.
"Hm?" Winn wasn't paying attention. "Who? Peter? He's mentioned having other friends, but I didn't know he was seeing someone."
Vicky felt a little hurt as it seemed Winn drew the same conclusion she did, that Peter was dating Janet. "Yeah, didn't mention to me either."
"So, where to next?" Janet asks Peter.
"Well, I had a lunch date planned with May," Peter told her.
"Ooh, yay, I get to finally meet the infamous May Parker." Janet mocked in a friendly manner. "The woman who raised this amazing excuse of a hero."
"Jan." Peter moaned. "Just keep the superhero talk to a minimum. She's aware of what I do, but we don't talk about it often."
"It never occurred to you why all the women in our family are...shall we say unlikeable?" Smythe's aunt asked her. "We're cursed. From way back in the day before we left Ireland. Some starving bog lady ancestor stole from a banshee."
"So, that's it?" Smythe asked in worry. "I'm just cursed and it's never going to go away?"
"Curse is triggered when someone wrongs you. If you want it to stop, you're going to have to kill the object of your anger."
"Did you have to do that?" Smythe wonders.
"What do you think happened to your uncle William?"
Smythe was surprised to hear that and was a little scared. "And if I don't?"
"The power inside will only grow. Your voice will become a weapon that you can send anywhere in the world. Focus on your target, and your scream can decimate them."
Smythe then laid back in anger. "I'd love to get back at that smug photographer who for me fired and ruined my life. But even then, when I did so, the Avengers came to save him. How am I gonna kill him, if the Avengers are always going to be there?"
Then Smythe recalled a certain someone the Avengers all but failed to stop. "What is it?" Her aunt asked.
"The enemy of my enemy...is my partner," Smythe stated.
In the NCPD, Leslie Willis was currently inside a cell that was created to contain her and her powers, and nobody wanted to take the chance of her getting out. But that was shattered almost literally as the glass of her cell was shattered by a sonic frequency, causing her to cover her ears.
Leslie stood up in confusion and wondered what was going on when she saw some guards coming. Using her electrical powers, she sent a blast to take them down before escaping into the electrical system.
The Avengers got the alert just a few minutes too late as the crew made their way to the scene of the crime and found a mess.
"So, we first had a screaming ex-employee of Cat Grant, now we have another powered ex-employee to worry about?" Logan asked with a groan. "Remind me why we're protecting her?"
Steve ignored Logan's comments. "You picking up anything?"
"No, all I got is her standing up and leaving through the socket," Logan stated as he stood up. "Even my heightened senses can't track her like that."
"Hank, you got anything?" Steve tapped his comms.
"Well, I got us some earplugs for over our comms, allowing us to be able to at least live through this screaming Smythe emits," Hank reported as he flew in the room on an ant. "And I got an algorithm tracing her specific energy signature. In a few moments, we should have a location where she's going."
"Why break out Livewire?" Thor wonders. "I don't get the needs. Does she not possess great power on her own?"
"Well, maybe it's just that." Steve took a guess as he stood up. "It's not just about power, it's numbers. and we know Ms. Leslie can hold her own against us."
Hank then got an alert on his watch. "Speeding of which, I think I've got her."
Peter was making his way through the city with Janet. Since neither of them had a car, something he should look into since he has his own facility, they were reduced to walking. They couldn't risk letting out their secret identities and since they were waiting to be attacked, it was difficult.
"So, where are we going now?" Janet asks.
"I had told you. May's waiting for me." Peter explained as they came up to a house in the suburbs. "I just never realized how far it was since I'm used to swinging."
Janet looked at the house and smiled a little. "Aw, so this is where little baby Peter grew up?" She then chuckled and strolled forward. "This is going to be fun to see."
Peter chuckled nervously when he saw this. "I should have chosen Logan." He muttered. Peter made his way up to the door and then opened the front door to his aunt's place, allowing Janet to enter. "Hey, May, I'm here. And hope you don't mind I brought a friend."
May could be heard scurrying across the kitchen floor and making her way toward the door. She engulfed Peter in a hug, which he returned. "Oh, I was so worried. I hounded your phone, but you weren't picking up. Your boss assured me you were okay, saying you were rescued."
"I'm fine, May. It was a minor injury, I'm perfectly fine." Peter kept trying to assure her. "Ms. Grant gave me the day off, so I could relax. And I wanted to see you."
"Oh, and who's your friend?" May asked, noticing Janet.
"Hi, Mrs. Parker. I'm Janet. Janet Van Dyne." Janet said, shaking her hand. "I'm not sure if Peter ever mentioned me-"
"Of course, Janet. Peter always talks about you." May stated, causing Peter to blush. "He's talked about you all the time."
"Okay, she's over exaggerating." Peter proclaimed.
"He also mentioned that-"
"Alright, now where's that lunch?" Peter asked as he stopped his aunt from talking and led them towards the dining room. "If it's not made, I'll make it."
Janet only giggled and saw this was going to be fun. "Oh, I'm going to dig up so many secrets."
Arriving at the location, Leslie stopped traveling through the sockets and arrived at the location she was being led to by some screech in her head. As she was beginning to look around, she began to open a few of the boxes and found a new container. She found a few drinks and popped off the lid before drinking it.
"They even have my brand," Leslie commented as she chugged it down.
"Wanted to you to feel at home," Smythe stated as she came out of the shadows.
"You look familiar," Leslie said as she dropped the empty bottle, allowing it to shatter. "Do I know you?"
"Siobhan Smythe," Smythe introduced herself. "Cat Grant's assistant."
"Oh, that's right." Leslie recognized her. "Man, with a name like that, it's a wonder if your parents knew you'd grow up to be a big snob."
"I need your help," Smythe said.
Leslie then started to charge up a shock. "I could help you catch on fire."
"You should be a little more grateful," Smythe stated, without showing any fear. "Since I'm the one who broke you out of your little cage."
Leslie laughed when she heard that. "How'd you manage to do that?"
Smythe then turned over an empty glass bottle and immediately started to shatter it. Once it shattered, the glass windows began to shatter, sending glass everywhere, and causing Leslie to grab her ears from the loud scream.
Luck of the Irish." Smythe stated with a smile.
Leslie saw that could be a useful power to go against people who were definitely stronger. "I'm listening. Barely."
"You and I have shared interests," Smythe tells her. "You wanna kill Cat Grant and the Avengers, I wanna kill that snotty photographer who's protected by them both. Figured we could team up."
"Like an evil Taylor Swift squad?" Leslie asked sarcastically.
"What do you say?" Smythe asks.
Leslie nodded and strolled over. "Alright. I might be interested." Then she gestured over Smythe's normal clothing. "But not like that. You need a makeover."
Peter made his way down the hallway, leaving his aunt with Janet, for about five minutes. And that was all the time it took for May to break the old scrapbooks full of photos of Peter while he wasn't looking. When he came back into the living room, he heard the giggles and laughter from the couch and saw the photo albums.
"Hey, what are we looking at?" Peter asked in worry.
"Oh, just looking at the baby pictures of Peter Parker," Janet said and Peter's face went pale.
"You're what?" Peter asked in fear.
"You looked so nerdy with those glasses," Janet said and Peter saw that was before he got bitten by the spider. "Look at those chubby little baby cheeks."
Peter groaned and palmed his face. "May, why?"
"She asked." May shrugged.
"Come on, she's a coworker." Peter reminded May.
"Come on, a model and a photographer. I don't see you two seeing each other that often." May stated, getting an odd look from Janet since that was the first she heard the cover story Peter told May. "Ooh, hand on, I think I remember where a few more albums are."
May then made her way across the room towards the back room while Peter groaned. He saw that this wasn't going to be ending anytime soon and noticed Janet's look.
"A model?" Janet questioned.
"Well, I told her I'm a freelance photographer, so I have to go to constant places at constant times. It's the best excuse and not technically a lie." Peter shrugged. "And you definitely looked like someone who could be a model for a media industry."
"Aw." Janet saw that was actually kinda sweet. "That's nice of you." Then she looked over to see that May wasn't coming back yet. "But why don't you just tell her the truth?"
"What? That I'm Spider-Man?" Peter asked her. "That I go out there every day and risk my neck to save others with no guarantee I'll make it? No, I can't put her through that."
Janet nodded and saw rang was a plausible excuse for not telling her. "Well, you better hope she doesn't find out."
Peter nodded. "That makes two of us."
Janet then looked over one of the photos. "Oh, is that your uncle?"
Peter looked and saw there was an old photo of him and Uncle Ben. "Yep, that's him."
Janet looked and noticed his sorrowful look. "Sorry, did I-"
"No, it's good," Peter promises her. "Come on, May will be looking for us."
Thor was the first to arrive at the scene while Steve, Logan, and Hank made it to the same destination a few moments later. With Thor's ability to fly, he gets around faster than Steve's flying cycle and the others with their various ways of getting around.
"Sure this is the place?" Steve asked as he looked around.
"Someone is here," Logan stated as he sniffed the air. "I can smell them."
"You try keeping yourself clean using prison soap!" Leslie stated as she zapped into the room. "Long time, Freakengers."
"Freakengers?" Logan scoffed. "You had, like, what? A day in prison and that's the best you could come up with?" He then scoffed and rolled his eyes as he eyed the others. "No wonder nobody listens to her podcast."
"This doesn't have to end in a fight." Hank tried to de-escalate the situation.
"Oh, but don't you know, Ant-Man? It always ends in a fight!" Leslie cried as she prepared to strike.
"Have at thee, villain!" Thor cried and summoned lightning to then throw at Leslie.
"Thor, NO!" Steve tried to stop him, but he was too late. "Remember last time!"
But Leslie had already begun to absorb the electricity and was amplifying her powers. She chucked and then prepared to soot off the energy she absorbed. "Thanks for the charge!"
Leslie then fired at the Avengers, ending with Logan and Hank being fired backward. But Steve was able to protect himself while raising his shield to defend himself. Thor also protected himself by taking the lighting back. Steve then got an idea when he looked up and saw the sprinklers, seeing that might harm Leslie and her powers. Steve was about to use his shield to hit it when an ear-piercing screech came from nowhere, causing him and even Thor to grab onto their ears in pain. Steve looked and was shocked to see his ears were bleeding from the high frequency.
"Oh, have you met my friend?" Leslie asked, gesturing upward. "Meet Silver Banshee."
Then out came Smythe wearing a new black outfit with a white stripe down it. She wore makeup to give her face a look like a skull, and white gloves and boots to complete the outfit.
"All my life I thought I was cursed," Banshee said as she kicked some metal, revealing she now had super strength on her skill list. "But now, I see I was cursed for the better."
"Smythe, you don't have to do this. We can help you." Steve said, his shield raised to protect himself. "Come on, this doesn't have to end in a fight."
"He just keeps saying that, doesn't he?" Leslie chuckled.
"Here's what I say to that." Banshee then let out a shriek, causing Steve to raise his shield to protect himself from the shriek, whilst Thor spun his hammer to keep any sound from reaching him.
Hank struggled to his feet, his eyes shining with determination. With a deep breath, he activated the Pym particle, growing to an enormous size in an instant. He positioned himself between the heroes and the villains, using his massive form as a shield to protect his allies.
Logan, the fierce and feral mutant, snarled as he made a desperate leap over the towering Ant-Man, attempting to attack the villains. However, Leslie, one of the villains, was ready for him. With a crackling burst of electricity, she sent Logan flying backward, sending him crashing to the ground.
As the villains were distracted by Logan's attack, Steve sprang into action. He quickly formulated a plan and hurled his shield at the warehouse walls, causing it to ricochet and bounce off the surfaces. The shield flew back towards the heroes, striking Leslie as she tried to phase through it. The impact caused her to scream in agony, and she inadvertently hit Banshee, disrupting their attack.
Logan fell to the ground, writhing in pain as he healed from the electrical burns he had sustained. Meanwhile, Banshee then shrieked to take off into the sky, and Leslie disappeared into the electrical outlets. Thor, who had been wielding his mighty hammer, let out a groan of frustration. Hank's suit was badly burned and scorched, but he remained resolute and determined. Steve caught his shield as it returned to his hand, grinning with satisfaction at the success of their plan.
Peter and Janet were still with May as they were actually enjoying their time together. Peter was helping May with the dishes while she and Janet got to know each other better. May then took a moment as she made her way over to Peter to talk with him.
"Janet seems like a nice girl," May commented.
"Yeah, she's sweet." Peter agreed with her.
"How come you haven't mentioned her, or asked her out then?" May asked.
Peter ended up squirting water everywhere as he was shocked by the statement. "What? God, May, come on, she's just a friend. Besides, she's already seeing someone."
"Oh, she is?" May sounded almost upset to say that. "Oh, that's too bad."
Peter rolled his eyes when his phone went off, showing Jarvis was alerting him that the Avengers were attacked. "Uh, sorry, May, we gotta go."
"What happened?" May wonders.
"Nothing, it's just a message from Cat. She needs Janet." Peter made a quick lie and walked over to Janet. "Come on, we gotta go."
"What really happened?" Janet whispered.
"The Avengers were attacked," Peter confessed as they left.
May watched them leave and gave a small smile. "Too bad. They look cute together."
Banshee and Leslie made their way to a new hiding place in the city. They were now in an old apartment complex this time and regrouped. Banshee groaned as she felt the side of her face where Captain America's shield hit her. Leslie chuckled as she strolled over and dropped on the old dusty couch.
"Well, for our first tour, I say that went well," Leslie stated. "Vibranium shield to the hip and face aside."
"There's something I don't get," Banshee whispered as she thought of the team. "Where was Wasp and Spider-Man during all of that?"
"Maybe they called in sick?" Leslie shrugged.
"No, something is going on," Banshee replied. "I attacked Parker, and the next time the Avengers are seen, two of them are missing. Which means..."
"They split up." Leslie was getting what she was saying. "They're protecting Parker, while they are searching for us."
"Which means...nobody is protecting Grant." Banshee was happy to see they were on the same page.
"Let's go skin ourselves a Cat." Leslie was on board.
Peter and Janet arrived at the Mansion to find the Avengers getting their injuries looked over by the AI. They were surprised to see everyone was harmed after everything.
"What happened to you guys?" Peter wonders.
"Livewire was broken out," Logan explained, finally getting feelings back into his claws. "And now she and Smythe have teamed up."
"Calls herself Silver Banshee now." Steve commented as he rubbed his ears. "I've heard worse. Name wise anyway."
"Okay, if she's with Livewire, then she isn't following me." Peter stated. "I'm un-benching myself. I'm back in the game."
"I...I don't think that's really the way sports work." Hank commented.
"Either way, I'm helping out this time." Peter retorted. "Next time they're spotted, we all act as a group. Together. Now, what can I do to help?"
"We need maybe something to protect our ears." Logan stated.
"And maybe something so Logan stops conducting electricity." Steve stated.
Peter grew a grin when he heard that. "I might have some ideas."
Back in CatCo, Grant made her way out of her office and was looking around. "Where is Parker? Is he actually spending the day out?"
"Yeah, he left with his friend a while back, Ms. Grant." Vicky confirmed.
"Well, when he gets back, tell him I want him for that interview." Grant tells everyone. "I am not going to let-"
Before she finished, there was static coming around the room, causing everyone to panic other than Grant. Then the television screens in Grant's room revealed Leslie's face.
"Livewire here." Then she came zapping into the room, whilst Jarvis immediately sent out the alert after hearing her name. "You really should watch where you're going, Cat. Or someone's gonna need to declaw you."
"You know, you really. We'd to get some better material, Leslie." Grant stated.
"Well, your days of telling me or my friend what to do - are long over." Leslie proclaimed.
Grant heard her elevator go off and saw Smythe enter the room, "Oh, it's you, Siobhan." She didn't seem to be surprised or scared. "I see that my ex-minions have united. Strength in numbers? You should call Norma Rae and find out how it's really done."
"You know, your voice is just about as grating as this." Smythe got ready to use her high pitch scream.
Smythe then released her high pitch scream and caused everyone in the room to cover their ears in agony. When they opened their eyes and ears again, they saw there was no sign of the three of them.
So, I got this idea when I fought a villain who uses sound waves as a weapon." Peter was explaining as he showed the gang the enhanced earbuds he created for them. "He called himself Shocker."
"That's a interesting name." Steve commented.
"So I whipped up these bad boys." Peter said as he showed them the buds. "
"Are they earbuds?" Logan asked as he picked at the device.
"Yeah. In a sense." Peter explained. "Basically, they'll repell the sound waves when she attacks us, similar to your shield, cap."
"I'll admit, ingenious." Hank complimented.
"Thanks. It should be powerful enough protect us from Silver Banshee's yelly voice." Peter tells them, getting a fearful look from the team all of a sudden.
"Should?" Janet asked in fear.
"Well, I never really tried them out." Peter stated. "We're gonna have to try them out in the field to be sure."
"Excuse em, sir, but there's something that's come over the line thsy must be brought to your attention." Jarvis informed the room.
"What is it, talking voice in the walls?" Thor asks.
"Livewire and Silver Banshee kidnapped Cat Grant.
"What?!" Peter asked as he jumped to his feet.
Their screens seemed to begin glitching, thankfully Leslie couldn't glitch her way into their facilities like last time anymore. But it seems she has taken control of every screen in the city this time.
"Hello, Red and Blue." Leslie called out.
"Ugh, I gotta update the security firewalls." Hank groaned.
"Come to the City Park... now," Leslie demanded them. "That is if you don't want Cat's blood all over your hands or all over the street."
Then she stopped and allowed their screens to go to their normal broadcast, spooking the team.
"Okay, you said you had something to help me from being electrocuted, right?"
"Oh, right." Peter nodded and knew they needed to figure something out for that. He then looked over as wolverine activated his claws, giving him a sight of them. "Okay, well, we can't really ground these things. Rubber and p;Astrid aren't going to do much, but...have you ever tried magnetizing them?"
Logan fare him a dumbfound look. "You think that I would magnetize my entire body?"
"Well, obviously not, but if you let me, I can have it so that I can magnetize your claws themselves, and give your suit a quick upgrade, allowing your body to withstand the electricity, and allowing your claws to take yo the whole blast."
"Okay, and how are you going to do that?" Steve asks.
Peter smiled as he looked over to Thor and some jumper cables. "How much do you trust me?"
"You don't want me to answer that, bub." Thor stated.
Peter then got to work as he quickly took the jumper cables and wrapped them around Thor's hammer. Then he had Logan's claws on the other end of the cables, with copper wire wrapped around it.
"Okay, now your suit should ground you." Peter told Wolverine. "But...just to be safe...think lightning proof thoughts."
"What?" Logan asks.
"Thor, hit it." Peter didn't answer Logan and called to the god.
Thor sends a small spark from his hammer and sent it into his claws, allowing him to electrify his claws and protect his suit from electricity. When he did his end, Peter then tried it out by taking a few keys and saw they were magnified.
"Okay, great." Peter said with pride. "You're now Livewire proof. For at least a hour or two."
Logan then retracted his claws and extended them, feeling no difference and grew a grin. "Let's go cut some weight."
Leslie and Smythe were having themselves some fun while waiting for their heroes to come out. People were running in panic as Leslie was shooting electricity off into the crowds, causing them to run away screaming.
"Where the hell are they?" Leslie asks.
"Maybe we didn't motivate them enough." Smythe stated as she strolled over towards the chained up Grant using handcuffs from the prison she grabbed on her way out. "What do you say?"
"I like the way you're thinking." Leslie stated as she strolled over towards Grant. "You see, Cat, I'm still 50-50 if your heart's actually beating, but I'm gonna stop it anyway."
Leslie then reached to prepare to use her powers to shock her heart. "No, Leslie." She begged. "Please don't do this."
"Begging?" Leslie scoffed. "I'm disappointed. What are you so afraid you're gonna miss, hmm? Another silly award ceremony? Where a bunch of sycophants kowtow to the false queen and tell you how great you are?"
"No." Grant denied. "No. I'm not asking for myself. I'm asking for my boys. I'm all they have. Please don't take their mother away from my them."
That seemed to actually cause Leslie to stop for a second snd think when Smythe stepped in. "We're wasting time!"
But before she could take her deep breath, a shot of webbing stoped her, causing her to take a step back to try and pry it off. Then came swinging in Spider-Man, followed by Wasp, Ant-Man, Captain America, Thor, and Wolverine. They were ready to fight, and slowly stepped towards them.
"Hey, Sparky!" Shrieky!" Peter called out, missing the chance to call them that earlier. "Why don't we step away from the nice lady, and settle this like super powered freaks." That caused the team to spin over to their friend in confusion. "What? Come on, we're all freaks, and we're proud of it, aren't we?"
"That's one way to put it." Janet shrugged.
"What are you waiting for?!" Leslie asked Smythe.
Smythe then started to charge up a sonic screech, and she sent it out, causing people passage to grab their ears in pain. As glass shattered around them, the heroes stood their ground, and aside for a bit of some push back from the shockwave, they were left unharmed.
"Seems your earpieces worked." Steve said.
Smythe then looked over towards Leslie. "What are you waiting for!?"
"Watch who you yell at!" Leslie stated as she started to charge up a blast of energy, sending it towards the heroes.
But they all immediately started to defend themselves since all of them now were given upgrades. Logan extended his claws, allowing them to conduct the electricity, and he was kept safe. Peter was wearing a electric proof suit, which he passed over to Janet and Hank, allowing them all to be able to withstand the electricity.
Wait, who was going around to try it out!?
They all scattered around to stop themselves from getting struck by the electricity. Peter shot two webs and yanked to get away from the blast, ending him landing on the side of the building. Janet shrank down to disappear from the attack, then Hank came in and enlarged himself to become a sort of barrier between them and the people still trying to escape.
Steve raised his shield and blocked the attack, causing it to ricochet off of him, and make its way to Thor who used his hammer to absorb the attack. Then Thor started to rise up, spinning his hammer to summon more electricity.
"Thor, remember, keep that away from Leslie!" Steve called into comms. "We can't risk her getting stronger."
"We can't take them together!" Peter cried as he swung away from Smythe. "We gotta split them up."
"Good call." Steve agreed and ran behind some rocks for cover. "Spider-Man, you, Wasp, get Grant out of here and take Smythe. Logan, you and me get Leslie. Hank, you keep those civilians back from the fight."
"On it." Peter said as he leaped into action. "Janet, you move in,mill keep Smythe on me!"
"Good idea." Janet stated as she flew around, shooting Smythe to go around. "She hates you more than me!"
"Which I can easily see the irony." Peter muttered and webbed Smythe's mouth, only for her to immediately rip it off and let out a screech, causing glass to shatter around Peter. "Can't I go a full day without shattered glass!?"
Leslie tried to shoot electricity towards Thor, but all she ended up doing was allow him to absorb it as he was spinning thr hammer around to absorb all electricity in the area. While she did so, Steve flung his shield, causing it to bounce off of her and flying back to his hands.
"Oh, come on!" Leslie cried in pain. She then powered up to shoot at him. "Why can't you leave me be?!"
But what she didn't know was that he was a distraction for Logan. He climbed up the side of a nearby building and leaped off with a war cry. By the time Leslie realized what was happening, Logan stabbed her while his claws were absorbing her electricity. He wasn't going for a kill strike, just one to injure her.
Janet flew her way over and enlarged right in front of Grant, seeing her look of no surprise. "What took you?" Cat asks.
"Seriously?" Janet was shocked to see how well she was taking everything. She then shot the handcuffs and freed Grant. "Let's get you out of here, Ms. Grant."
Janet however did turned around and was then punched in the face by Smythe, who sent Janet skidding backward. Then she quickly turned around and used her stingers to shoot her, giving Peter an opening to come in swinging and kicking her in the back.
Leslie fell down, her body showing a few small wounds where Logan stabbed her. They saw they were finally victorious to see both Banshee and Livewire were stopped.
The next time Smythe opened her eyes, she was shocked to see she was currently inside a cell and looked around for a way out. What she saw was a small computer with a text-to-speech app installed. She then saw Ant-Man and the Wasp right outside the cell she was in.
"You should feel honored." Janet stated as she strolled around the cell. Her voice was entering the cell through a speaker in the cell. "This is the same cell that held Shriek. So, you can yell all you want. You're not getting out."
Smythe seemed to try to speak, but nothing was coming. "Yeah, soundproof. So whatever you're saying, we can't hear."
"All done." Hank said as he backed off. "She isn't going anywhere anytime soon."
"Great, let's get out of here." Janet stated as they strolled out.
Smythe only shrieked in anger, sending the bed and few items around the cell as she tried to escape. But all of her sound was only being flung back towards her. They found Logan and Steve in the halls with Thor watching over Leslie who was getting looked after considering Logan stabbed her.
"How's she doing?" Hank wonders.
"Minir injuries." Steve confirmed. "Logan knew what he was doing."
"Like there's any doubt." Logan scoffed.
"Well, at least she will live to serve her life sentences." Janet joked. "Sorry, Peter's not here and someone had to say it."
Peter sighed as he made his way back into CatCo as if everything was back to normal. He walked past Winn and have him a friendly fist bump as he sighed. Vicky was also there, happy to see Peter was okay.
"So, been a eventful week, isn't it?" Winn asks.
"Yeah, you could say that." Peter sighed.
"I'm surprised you were up to coming back in." Vicky commented. "After that, I would have made an excuse to take the rest of the week off."
"When you've been at this as long as I have, you get used to stressful situations." Peter shrugged it off. "And Grant called me in for the interview."
"Stressful? You were flung from the window." Winn scoffed. "What's a terrifying situation for your head?"
"Having to disappoint my aunt." Peter replied with a laugh.
"Yeah, okay, I'll agree with you there. She's scary." Winn agreed. Then he got a messages, someone needed his tech support. "Uh, I'll be right back."
"So, how's your friend...Janet?" Vicky wonders as Winn left.
"She's doing okay." Peter answered. "She's with her boyfriend, Hank."
"Boyfriend?" Vicky was surprised to hear that.
"Yeah, she's been seeing this guy for a while now." Peter confirmed. "Why?"
"Oh, just...yesterday, she looked like you had her were..." Vicky tried to explain it.
"Oh, no, she's part of a... bowling league." Peter lied. "We're friends, but that's it."
"Hm." Vicky commented. "Hey, Peter, you got plans after work?"
"Not really, unless my...league calls me. Why?" Peter wonders.
"I was thinking...maybe we could go out for a drink." Vicky said, trying to ask him out.
Peter was surprised to hear that she was indeed asking him out for a drink. "Are you...you asking me out?"
Vicky nodded. "Something you'd be interested in?" Vicky asks.
"Uh...sure?" Peter decided to go with it.
The Watcher saw the whole scene and smiled. "Love. The one thing that ties the entire multiverse together... and it's always unique. No matter who's relationship, none of them are two alike. But some are never meant to last." He then jumped ahead into the night to see Vicky and Peter starting to share a few drinks. "Let's see what kind of relationship they have together."
