Chapter 195 Kreacher And Regulus
"What happened upstairs?" Sirius raised Evan and inquired hastily. "We just heard the scream, a scream of a dying man."
"Yes, that horrible sound was dreadful; it seemed to pierce deep into the soul, causing a chilling sensation." Hermione nodded, her gaze fixed on Evan, and then said with concern, "What happened to you, Evan?"
"My scar hurts, I feel like..." said Harry.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. That sound occurred when I broke this thing." Evan handed over the Slytherin locket.
Although this Horcrux was no longer of use, he did not discard it.
Not to mention its possible connection to Slytherin's treasure, this pendant holds a great value for collection.
The strange lines of text also greatly concerned Evan.
Salazar Slytherin wouldn't have left those things in the locket for no reason. They couldn't be mere decoration; they must be conveying some sort of message.
Evan speculated that if those lines were not words, they must be a very rare magical arrangement that not even Voldemort himself had come across.
Though this possibility was very slim, it couldn't be denied.
Evan was going to return and study to see if he could make new discoveries related to them.
"Is this?" Sirius stared at the locket in his hand, his eyes fixed on the uppercase letter S, and it seemed he had seen a similar pattern somewhere before.
"This is the locket handed down by Salazar Slytherin himself. The uppercase letter S is a special emblem of the Slytherin family."
Sirius was so astonished; no wonder he felt he had seen that pattern before.
In the book "The Nobility of Nature: A Genealogy of Wizards," it presents the third series of pure-blood wizards, the Slytherin family. Its most memorable feature is the family emblem in the shape of a snake.
"This Slytherin locket, I found it on the dining hall window. Out of curiosity, I took it out, and then I realized something strange. This locket was speaking to me. It's an object of dark magic." Evan explained, "Harry, Hermione, do you remember Tom Riddle's diary we found last year? If I'm not mistaken, this locket and the diary are of the same kind of thing."
Upon hearing this, Harry and Hermione paled instantly, understanding what Evan meant. This locket was a magical object left by Voldemort.
Looking into the eyes of Harry and Hermione, Evan nodded.
In fact, he had just reflected on the matter and finally decided to speak about it, rather than continue to conceal it.
Now that this Horcrux had been destroyed, it was natural to inform Dumbledore about it, and there was no longer a need to hide the matter. Though it was a coincidence, it was fortunate to discover and destroy this Horcrux.
Sirius, Harry, and Hermione were also present. Dumbledore would have no doubts and wouldn't overthink.
Moreover, through the capture of Peter Pettigrew, Evan suddenly realized that Dumbledore was not as he had imagined. Since he was so tolerant, Evan could have more freedom in his actions.
The atmosphere on the stairs was heavy, and Harry and Hermione were pale and colorless. They were still immersed in the terrible news Evan had brought them.
"The Tom Riddle's diary, what are the three of you talking about?"
Only Sirius was unaware of what was happening. They hastily explained to him and recounted what had happened the previous year.
"I don't understand. If this locket is a dark magic object made by Voldemort, why is it in this house?" Sirius's face turned more serious.
"This question should be directed to Kreacher, he should know." whispered Evan.
They returned to the dining hall, and Sirius immediately called for Kreacher.
Kreacher was still holding the old, dusty green tapestry full of moth holes. He stood in front of the cold, empty fireplace, looking at them with disdain.
"Young master, how does he call the old Kreacher?" Kreacher said in a hoarse, toad-like voice, bending down and whispering by his knees. "After destroying the Black family's collection, the young master and the three unpleasant lads he brought still have further plans..."
"Do not utter those words in front of me again," Sirius said. "I have a question for you, you must answer truthfully, understood?"
"Yes, master!" Kreacher bowed deeply.
Evan watched as his lips moved silently, undoubtedly pondering the insulting words he had just been forbidden to say.
"This locket!" Sirius flung the Slytherin locket. "It does not belong to the Black family. Where did you get it?"
"This, this is the young master Regulus's locket!" Holding the locket, Kreacher trembled and shook.
"From my brother?" Sirius stared. Having just heard the explanations from the trio, he knew it was a magical object created by Voldemort.
It seemed to be just as he had imagined; it must have been Voldemort who had compelled Regulus to save this object.
Although he did not know what the plans were, they were definitely not something good.
"The young master Regulus's locket!" Kreacher gasped, his parched chest heaving. "Kreacher made a mistake and did not fulfill the young master's orders!"
Then he let out a blood-curdling scream.
In the next moment, Kreacher lunged towards the fireplace with extraordinary speed. Harry, who was beside him, instinctively reacted and hurried to catch him.
Kreacher continued to resist, and Evan rushed to assist Harry.
Hermione's cries mingled with Kreacher's sobs, but Sirius's snoring drowned them all out.
"Enough, Kreacher, I command you to stay still!"
Kreacher immediately halted in his struggle, tears streaming down his long nose towards his open mouth, revealing a gray tooth.
Evan and Harry gasped above him, and Sirius moved in to intervene. He grasped Kreacher firmly in his hand and shook him violently, as if the house-elf were a tattered garment.
"Tell me everything you know. Where did this locket come from? And what was my brother Regulus's involvement in this?" Sirius shouted loudly. "I command you; reveal all about the locket!"
Kreacher's reaction to Sirius was peculiar. He disclosed that the medallion had much to do with his brother's demise and their actions that year.
