The letters - Chapter 19

Meanwhile, in Hope Vale, Rose, Abigail, Clara and Alien were discovering more and more every day. While cleaning Elizabeth's house, they found several letters from her family and others in a box hidden in her wardrobe.

Alien thought that she had never imagined that her family would be so lovely that they would always write to her, they must love her and little Jack very much. Fiona entered at that moment, and on the doorstep, went on to say that these letters were one of the reasons for Elizabeth's estrangement from everyone in town. Most of the letters after Jack's death are about her marriage to Charles or her threats to everyone in town. Read a few and maybe you'll start to tolerate Elizabeth, she's not as bad as you all think. She only didn't leave because there was no one there and as she said, at least here she could see all of you happy and that would embrace her, even from afar. Abigail began to read a letter aloud:

ELIZABETH GRACE MARIE

YOU'RE ALREADY AN ADULT, A WOMAN, A WIDOW, WHO HAS ALREADY RUINED OUR LINEAGE WITH THAT CHILD WITH THE WRONG AND IMPURE BLOOD. YOU'VE ALREADY PLAYED TEACHER, MOTHER, WIFE TO A CHILD. IT'S TIME TO RETURN TO HAMILTON AND MARRY A DECENT MAN WITH THE RIGHT LINEAGE FOR A THATCHER.

DON'T WORRY, CHARLES HAS ALREADY SAID THAT HE'LL FORGIVE YOU FOR NOT BEING A PURE AND DECENT GIRL ANYMORE, HE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO BE A TRUE WOMAN AND LADY OF SOCIETY. WE'LL TAKE CARE OF THIS CHILD, HE'LL GROW UP AND HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT; YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN YOUR LIFE ANYMORE. I'M NOT ASKING YOUR OPINION. NOW ENOUGH OF THIS, I'M YOUR MOTHER AND I KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU. YOUR MOTHER. GRACE THATCHER.

Abigail, crying, and clearly indignant at this, began to read the letter in her hands.

BETH

SISTER, ENOUGH OF BEING A HOUSEWIFE,IN A COAL TOWN,WHERE ALL YOU SEE IS DIRT,CATARRHAL CHILDREN,AND WIDOWS WHO HAVE NOTHING IN LIFE BUT COAL I'VE DECIDED I WANT TOM THORTON. WELL, SINCE YOU'VE HAD JACK, I WANT TOM AND EVEN IF HE SAYS IT'S OVER, I KNOW I CAN GET WHAT I WANT AND AT THE MOMENT I WANT HIM, I'M GOING TO LOVE SLAPPING MY HAPPINESS IN HIS FACE AND HIS MOTHER'S; I'M YOUNG, RICH, BEAUTIFUL I CAN CONQUER ANYTHING I WANT WITH MY CHARM AND A FEW CRUSHES ON THE RIGHT PEOPLE...REMEMBER ON THE DAY OF THE TRIAL, IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE WHEN YOU DEFENDED HIM BY TELLING EVERYONE THAT I'D ALREADY STOLEN DADDY'S CAR SEVERAL OTHER TIMES?

WELL, YOUR TIME IS COMING AND IT WILL BE SOON, I'M GOING TO TAKE EVERYTHING FROM YOU, FROM YOUR HONOR, YOUR MORALS, YOUR SON, YOUR JOB AND ABOVE ALL YOUR HAMILTON PRINCESS MY

REMARK = REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE FIFTEEN... IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS I'VE EVER HAD. TOO BAD CHARLES COULDN'T GIVE YOU A DEAL, THAT PHILIP HAD TO SHOW UP AND SAVE YOU, DIDN'T HE? I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT VIOLA AND I HELPED CHARLES A LOT THAT DAY. TOO BAD HE WAS AN IDIOT AND TOOK TOO LONG TO RIP OFF YOUR CLOTHES.

Fiona let out a scream and everyone looked at her. Breathlessly, she went on to tell of the attempted rape, of the boy who was Elizabeth's soldier friend Philip who saved her that day, of the soldier's death at Charles' hands, where they fought while Elizabeth ran out with her clothes all torn and bruised from the slaps, and also, that at the trial Charles was innocent and Elizabeth's own father told the judge that his daughter had crossed the line and that she had instigated the act because her daughter was shameless.

Alien was pale, reading the letter in her hands, when she said:

- Look at this, it's even worse.

ELIZABETH

THE MAYOR MAY BE A GOOD PERSON...SHE MAY NOT BE INVOLVED IN CORRUPTION,EVEN IF SHE ISN'T,IT WAS VERY EASY TO TAMPER WITH THE BOOK,APART FROM HER ADOPTED LITTLE FOR THE BAR,THE OWNER OF THE BAR FOR THE TIME BEING I LIKE HIM,AFTER MY I LAUGHED AT THE POLICEMAN LEAVING,AND THAT SMUG JUDGE,IT WAS GREAT TO SEE BOTH THE POLICEMAN AND THE JUDGE BEING PROSECUTED FOR CORRUPTION,NEGLIGENCE AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AND THIS WILL STAIN THEIR RECORD FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES,SHAME ON MOUNTIE. LIKE JACK THORTON, THEY ARE TERRIBLE AS PEOPLE OR AS PROFESSIONALS. NEGLIGENCE AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AND THIS WILL STAIN THEIR RECORD FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES, A DISGRACE FOR THE MOUNTIE. LIKE JACK THORTON, THEY ARE TERRIBLE AS PEOPLE OR AS PROFESSIONALS. NEGLIGENCE AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AND THIS WILL STAIN THEIR RECORD FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES, A DISGRACE FOR THE MOUNTIE. LIKE JACK THORTON, THEY ARE TERRIBLE AS PEOPLE OR AS PROFESSIONALS.

BUT SINCE THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, I'M GIVING YOU SIXTY DAYS TO GET HERE, EVERYTHING HAS ALREADY BEEN SORTED OUT, EVEN YOUR DRESS IS READY HERE WAITING FOR YOU. BUT IF THAT HASN'T CONVINCED YOU ENOUGH, I'LL TELL YOU THAT OPAL, ROBERT, ALIEN, JACK JUNIOR, CODY BACKY AND EMILY ARE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN, I'VE MET EACH ONE OF THEM AND THEY'RE VERY KIND, WE MUST MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO ANY OF THEM, DON'T YOU AGREE? SIXTY DAYS, THINK ABOUT IT! FATHER. WILLIAN THATCHER.

Alien cried and said that a couple of months earlier, she had received a book that said sixty days. Abigail also said that the children had also received it. It was when Fiona spoke that Elizabeth investigated... She knew that each child had received a threat from her father, and that's when she began to organize her escape, because she knew that at sixty days it would either be the children or her and Jack junior. That's when Lucas warned her and her father's butler...
