"You can't blame gravity for falling in love." —Albert Einstein

Ever since she was a little girl, Lucy always dreamt about love. Falling in love. Being in love. The whole stigma around love was just so intoxicating and it made her heart flutter as she read novels and watched movies where the boy meets girl and they fall in love. She's been obsessed with finding her Prince Charming since she could remember, dreams of his strong arms sweeping her off her feet and saving her from the dangers of the world.
Her mom liked to talk about love a lot, how it was everywhere. She always used to say that you can see it in many different shapes and forms.
Her mom just never told her that falling in love could be so confusing.
Lucy would consider herself a somewhat clumsy girl. She trips and drops things without meaning to and it's only because she tends to be an airhead at times and accidentally falls. Or the times she gets blasted out of the sky or even the times she ends up throwing herself off the building because she hears him.
Him.
She's fallen down more than a couple hundred times and each time they stung but this time?
This was her worst fall, yet.
Falling in love was the worst and most confusing fall she's ever experienced.
She honestly didn't think it would be anything too hard or complicated. Falling in love sounds easy and so dreamy but why is it so difficult for her (and a certain dragon slayer) to come to terms with?
It took her a very long time to understand what this feeling was for her.
Lucy hadn't ever fallen in love with a person before. She's fallen in love with books, clothes, rewards, and all things celestial but people? Yes, she loves her friends—she would die for any one of them. But the way she loves her best friend would most definitely be a different type of love she has for someone like Erza or even Wendy.
At first she was in denial. She didn't even know what it was so she scoffed and laughed and pinched herself at the simple thought of her possibly having romantic feelings for Natsu Dragneel of all people! That man was oblivious when it came to all things romance and he definitely did not even think about anything that may concern her with him in that way.
It drove her crazy for a bit and it really hit her when Natsu had come and saved her from falling to her death during Phantom Lord. She thinks that's when she really started to look into it because he saved her for pete's sake. And then he did it again… and again… and again and her poor little heart couldn't handle it. At that point she was screaming and punching the air when it was just her alone because this man was driving her up the wall with his grins and warmth.
The way he looks at her gets her to melt and anytime those warm fingertips just brush against her gets her going.
Lucy could only come to the conclusion that it is indeed a lot worse to fall in love with your idiotic, loud fire breathing best friend than falling off a building or even tripping over a curb.
She would know. She's done it a couple dozen times.
And he was always there to catch her.
Every. Single. Time.
