It is pretty ironic how someone like him became a professional hockey player. Besides the fact that he spends the majority of his time in a cold, icy arena, the sport is considered barbaric in its ways with the smashing of the fists and full on body slamming going on in the rink. Maybe that was one reason why he enjoyed hockey like it was his second nature.

Him and Gray met through hockey when they were just seven years old. Zeref had put him into the sport to see if he could channel some of his mischievous energy into the sport as well as give him an outlet for his anger. And even twenty years later, they were very much into hockey and a hell of a lot closer and just a tad more mischievous. They even lived together and it's a miracle they haven't killed one another but it's not like they spend all the time in the world together.

Gray and him had the occasional company and they were all pretty close with the rest of their teammates so it gave them room to breathe.

Now as this was his fourth season in the NHL and twenty seven years young, Natsu Dragneel had been a very big face for the team and major headlines. His stats this season have been the best they've ever been. His contract had just been renewed recently thanks to that, he's able to play hockey with Gray and some of his favorite people.

They just got into the conference finals where they had just played their first game and won just a couple days ago. It's not the first they had made it this far but they wouldn't have been able to without their fighting spirit and sheer determination.

Now through the conference finals could they be a bit closer to their goal: the Cup.

Pulling on his pads to start strapping into his gear, the mindless chatter and jesting in the background was merely a blur.

The pregame anxiety always hits hard before important games. Not like every game isn't an important game but this particular one would see if they would even make it into the final rounds. Victory was so close yet so far, they can't lose now.

Strapping his ice skates on and tucking his helmet on over his wild locks, Natsu grabbed at his hockey stick before the team was all waddling over to the doors. The loud chatter and booming of the arena showed how packed it was tonight and it only made his skin prick in goosebumps before being out on the ice.

He went ahead and slapped Gray on the back of his helmet making him turn and scowl at him before his gloved fist came and whacked him right back. The two merely grinned at one another before their team was announced and they were all rushing into the screaming crowd and chilly rink.

"The place is packed tonight."

"Hopefully since it's a home game we'll have the advantage," Natsu murmured as they did two laps together before skating their way to the corner to do some stretching. He laid out on the ice, bringing his legs together and bending at the waist with his hockey stick firmly placed out in front of him as if he was pinning it down.

Natsu noticed Gray's silence and turned over to look at him, seeing how the defenseman was looking around the crowd as if he was looking for someone.

"Expecting someone?"

What Natsu was not expecting was to see Gray blush and shoot him a glare before twisting his head away to continue his stretches. It only made his eyebrow shoot up as he switched to the other leg.

"Oh, a girl?" He smirked, watching how his best friend grew even redder.

"Shut up."

"It is a girl!"

"I said shut up, asshole!"

Natsu merely snickered as he began to twist his hips, thrusting into the ice to get his mobility up. "Who would have thought someone like you would be so flustered talking about some girl."

"It ain't like that," Gray clicked his tongue as he was now switching to his other leg. "I've been out with her a couple of times and she said she's coming tonight with her friends." He turned to glare at Natsu who had his mouth open. "And no, I didn't invite her. She was already coming before I asked."

"Right," Natsu dragged out the words and he was giggling as Gray whacked him with his hockey stick. He barely felt the thing through his pads but it still made him whack him back for good measure. "Well, is she here?"

"I still haven't been able to find her." His eyes were back wandering the many heads that occupied the seats of the arena.

Natsu finished his hips stretches and stood back up on the ice, his skates firmly planted and his hands coming over to his sides. He held his hand up for Gray who took a hold of it once he was done with his hip stretches, the two of them skating over to their side to practice a little bit of shooting before the game began.

Getting into the flow of a game wasn't hard considering they have been living, breathing, and playing hockey since they were kids. It had actually become an enjoyment for them as well as a profession but nonetheless they still acted like little kids as they cross-checked one another and stole the puck away.

A bunch of his other teammates cursed at him and tried to steal it back but Natsu was quicker, pushing through the ice and dodging the many sticks that came to try and stop him. He had a wild grin to his face as the cold air nipped at his skin but with his overheated body temperature, he was sweating bullets underneath his gear.

Gliding over the ice so gracefully, the goal was a few feet away from him as he skated around his teammates who were trying to get to him. Turning over his shoulder to see who may have been behind him, Natsu got distracted as he suddenly saw a flash of gold in his peripheral vision. At the last second he turned his head and his eyes suddenly locked on a blonde who was laughing at what one of her friends was saying to her as she passed the popcorn over. It was like everything was in slow-motion with the way her head turned and her eyelids shut for her to blink and look right at him. Even with the baseball cap planted on top of her head, he could see her chocolate orbs shining so brightly at him.

They locked eyes and it felt as if all the air got sucked out of him and before he knew it, he skated right into the wall where a loud noise erupted and he fell to the ground not a second later.

"Dragneel! Get your head on straight!"

Natsu could only blink stupidly as he stared up at the bright arena lights, heads covered in helmets coming over to hover over him and stare at him.

What the fuck was that?

X—

It was already into the second quarter with the score being 2-1 with the opposing team ahead. It had been a hard game from the start with the opposing team coming on strong. They were lethal in their defense and they had taken the puck from them one too many times. Considering they had beaten them last game, it shouldn't have been this hard to score.

Natsu had come to the conclusion that he cannot be looking at that woman who looked like a goddess behind that plexiglass. She looked familiar in a way but he had no idea if it was just his memory fucking with him since he had met so many blonde little puck bunnies in the past. She was so fucking distracting and she wasn't even doing anything but sitting there!

After he had run into the wall because of her beauty, he had already missed two goals and almost ran into his teammates multiple times.

He had been barked at for a hot minute from his team captain but it really was hard not to see her in the glint of the sparkly light. Thank god they had turned the lights off when the game was beginning so he couldn't see her as clearly but she was still there and he was burning with the desire to go ask her what her name was.

But not when they were playing so fucking shitty.

Natsu got back on the ice as one of his teammates came skating over to sub him in, affectionate bumps to the back of their helmets slapping through as they passed before the rosy-haired one was gliding over towards the center with his head rolling around.

"What is with you? You're playing shitty." Gray hissed at him from the side, the two watching the opposing team huddle briefly to chit chat.

"I know," he groaned, his grip around his stick tightening. "I'm going to try and score two goals before the game's over."

Gray scoffed, turning to look at him with a smirk. "I'm going to score three."

Natsu could feel the corner of his lips curling up, sensing the competitive edge Gray was pushing him to. "I'd like to see you try, ice princess."

"You buyin' tonight if I do."

"Deal." Natsu held out a gloved hand at his friend before the two were shaking on it and the buzzer was going off and the game was back in play.

Getting his head back into the game was quite easy once he tuned everything out and solely focused on the small black puck. His legs carried him easily, years of practice instilled into him as he rushed to the opposing team to steal the puck from them. Once he had successfully managed to steal the puck, he jerked himself around and started skating back down the ice where the roar of the crowd cheered him on.

He could see Laxus coming up beside him and he flicked it over to the blonde, skating faster so he could have an opening to a shot.

Members from all over were skating around aggressively as he could see the goalie getting down low to block whatever attempts they could. Gray came flying by in a flash where Laxus passed him the puck but before he could, he was slamming into the wall and his stick went flying out, sliding against the ice.

Natsu clenched his jaw as he heard the whistle blow, the pro player skating over to aid his friend who had crumbled to the ice while clutching his shoulder. The other skater who had bulldozed right into Gray was skating away with a smug look on his face, seeing how he wasn't penalized for such an aggressive play.

Without a care in the world, Natsu went straight for him as he watched Gray get helped up by Laxus and Bixslow.

"Hey! What the fuck was that, asshole!" Natsu shouted, nearing the player who merely blinked at him. "You targeted him and went right for him!"

"All I did was try and steal the puck from him," he smirked behind his helmet making Natsu scowl harder. "Not my fault he went flying like that. Maybe he should dedicate some more time in the gym." He shrugged carelessly and Natsu was now pissed to the max.

He didn't hesitate to throw his stick to the ground before he was pushing up against him, shoving him back. He could hear the crowd murmur louder and the shouts of his teammates to let it go but he was never the one to allow someone to disrespect one of his loved ones. He would die protecting any one of them and he would be damned if this loser was bad-mouthing Gray. He's the only one who could do that!

The player shoved him back and Natsu bared his teeth at him, ripping off his gloves and helmet to toss to the side before he reached forward and grabbed him by his own helmet to drag him back to clock him right in the face.

An uproar exploded into the air and he could hear his teammates screaming at him, rushing towards him before it got even worse but Natsu couldn't care less.

Raising his fist to try and get him again, Natsu was disappointed to find him being dragged back and yelled in his ear. He could barely hear it when his heart was pounding in his ear and how the buzzer rang when the referee announced Natsu would be having to sit in the penalty box.

This created more mayhem with the crowd booing and his teammates cursing up a storm.

"Stop being such a hothead!" His coach screamed at him. "Get your head on straight, Dragneel!"

His heart was racing behind his ribcage but it had slowed since his first attack. His shoulders were tense with anger and frustration while he skated over to the sin bin to do his time. Now they were down a player and the opposing team had an advantage. It only convinced Natsu even more that it seemed like they had done this on purpose.

He didn't get his reputation as the team's hothead if he wasn't starting a fight. But this was clearly pre-meditated and he could only grind his teeth in realization that he had fallen for their stupid petty game.

At least that other guy would surely have to sport a black eye for a couple of weeks.

Watching with sheer concentration on his teammates gliding across the ice and fighting back, his eyes darted to the time to count down the seconds he was allowed back on the ice.

His eyes followed the bodies of his teammates, seeing how Gray seemed fine and how they all pushed through to score a goal. Large hockey players came barreling through, trying to push Gray out and steal the puck from him but he was quick to flick it over to Laxus who stole the show by sinking it into the net.

A loud roar filled the stadium and Natsu found himself whooping with them, his fist shaking in the air as he called out to his teammates. Laxus came over to give him a fist bump and Natsu gave him a wide grin as the player went back to their original positions. They faced off pretty aggressively, slaps of the stick echoing on the ice before Bixslow grabbed a hold of the puck to rush across. He had two hockey players on his back before he could make it through, the puck being overturned with them all now rushing back down to his home court.

He only had one more minute left then he could join them back on the ice and score a goal or two. His hockey stick was being strangled in his tight grip and his eyes nervously followed his teammates back to the clock. He followed the flapping jersey of Gray who glided by the walls, the flash of gold coming back to haunt him as his eyes suddenly got glued back to her.

But this time, she was looking right at him and that weird feeling in his chest rose and he inhaled sharply.

She sat on the other side of the ice but he knew she was looking at him. It was hard to see her face from the darkness and distance but the shadows couldn't overpower the beauty she radiated. Deep chocolate eyes that were wide and addictive, long lashes framing her face. Her adorable button nose sat perfectly perched on her face all the way down to the plump pink lips where he could even see the shine of the gloss she had swiped across. It made him want to see what flavor she may have applied, the need to taste it growing inside his belly.

She had such long golden hair that she had up in a high pony behind a baseball cap with his team's logo on top of the jersey she wore and he couldn't see anymore than her torso but if it was anything like the top half, he would definitely be interested to see what the bottom half had to offer.

"Dragneel! Get back on the ice!"

Natsu snapped his head over to see that his time in the sin bin was over and he was just standing there like a fucking idiot. He cursed out loud as he threw himself back on the ice, his feet expertly gliding him over to his teammate who was in an intense power fight in the corner to see who could take the puck first.

Luckily, Freed was able to get the puck and chuck it over to where he was. Quickly taking a hold of the situation, Natsu rushed down the ice to get to the goal. He could hear and feel the heaviness of the players behind him and came up beside him to overpower him. Taking a little detour to the corner, Natsu rounded some of the players who almost crashed into him before he flung the puck at the goal. The black puck flew across the air before slipping right between the goalies head and shoulder and the back of the net caught it in its grasp for the entire arena to explode into cheer.

His teammates were screaming for him and he was receiving all sorts of slaps and hits on his back and helmet, a wide grin coming to his face.

As he skated back to his side, he could only catch the glimpse of his golden goose once again. She was smiling wide and clapping excitedly with her friends beside her, excited chatter and laughter filling the group.

Natsu immediately went right over to where they were, seeing how they were only three rows behind the front row but close enough he could see them. He could see how excited the crowd got as he got closer, a bunch of people rushing to the plexiglass to wave at him and try to snag a photo.

But Natsu only had his eyes set on one person and that one person was watching him, eyes growing wider as he drew closer.

The jersey she wore was hung over her body a size too big but it fit her perfectly with the curves she had underneath. He could see the rest of her outfit with the bootcut jeans she had on and the booties she had underneath.

He pointed right at her with a gloved finger, the blonde blinking stupidly as she turned her head to her right and left to ensure he was talking about her. Once she turned back to look at him, he jammed his finger right at her again making her mouth 'me?' and him nod.

He flipped his hand over and used his pointer finger to signal for her to get up, pointing at the ceiling as she furrowed her brows at him. She slowly stood up from her seat, nervous eyes darting around her as she realized they had been noticed and nearly everyone in the arena was watching them. Natsu felt himself nodding in approval as she stood from her seat and he made a small circle in the air to signal for her to turn around. He nearly lost it when she did a circle and gave him a perfect view of her body and he simply flashed a wide grin her way, a big thumbs up, before he was skating away from her.

"Dude, who is that?"

"I don't know but I'm going to find out," Natsu smirked as Bixslow and he approached his other teammates, getting ready to finish the game.

—X—

After ending the game 4-3 with them taking the win, the team was as happy as they could be. Of course they still got their asses beat into by the coach for their performance and Natsu got the majority of that heat with how he was. But he had redeemed himself in the last quarter when he had scored the very last goal, earning them the win.

Getting themselves showered and ready to get out of the arena, the group of men all excitedly chattered about the game and how they all wanted to go out for celebratory drinks.

"Natsu, dude, who was that chick you were making eyes at?" One of their newest rookie members, Romeo, asked as he buttoned his shirt back up.

This caught a lot of the attention that had been dispersed within the group, the rosy-haired player stiffening up slightly in the midst of him putting his clothes back on.

"You know her?"

"No, I don't." Natsu yanked his shirt back on before running his fingers through his damp, messy hair. "But I will."

"You don't even know the girl and actin' like that?" Freed asked, judgment heavy in his tone.

Gray snickered as he came over to his best friend, dropping his bag beside his on the bench before slapping his shoulder. "Come on lover boy, I owe you a drink."

"More like ten," Natsu laughed as he closed his locker and packed his bags up. "You all coming to Mirajane's?"

He doesn't even know why he bothers asking. They always went to Mirajane's, a nice local pub run by three siblings. They all think it's because Laxus has a thing for Mirajane, the owner and oldest out of the three, but it was also because it was the closest bar and Mirajane did treat them all like family. Besides, their drink specials are like no other.

"I gotta find that girl I was talkin' about earlier, first."

"I wonder if that blonde is still here." Natsu mused out loud, following Gray out of the locker rooms as the others trailed out or continued to get dressed. They walked down the halls out of the locker room, chatting excitedly about their win before they walked out the doors to see a crowd of people waiting around.

The majority of them are fans with an exception of a couple of puck bunnies who were waiting around to see if they could catch any of their eyes. Some of them excitedly asked for autographs and photos, chatting animatedly about the game. Natsu had always enjoyed the attention the fans provided as he was always such an extrovert. Even when he had bad days, he was always greeting each and every person with a smile and excited banter.

"It looks like the girls have made their way to Mirajane's already, let's go meet them." Gray jerked his head over to the parking lot. Natsu bid his eager fans goodbye, slipping away with his best friend as they quickly got into Natsu's truck.

Mirajane's was merely a ten minute walk from their place so Natsu went home first, dropping the car off, before the two made their way to the local bar that was already packed with hockey players, locals, and fans. The local pub seemed to erupt into a loud cheer once they walked in and Natsu was all grins while they made their way to the large table in the back that hosted many of his teammates.

Once the greetings were all sorted out, Natsu made a straight beeline for the bar to order a drink and he flashed an award winning grin at Mirajane who gave him one right back.

"Congratulations on the big win, Natsu." She said as she poured him a tall glass of beer before sliding it over to him. "Any post-game celebrations besides beer you might be partaking in?"

"The night is still young, Mira, we'll just have to see what it brings."

"Just make sure you're being safe."

"Danger is my middle name." He was barking out in laughter at the corny line as Mirajane rolled her eyes. Someone came up beside him to order a drink which stole the bartender's attention and just when he turned to leave, that's when he noticed who it was. "Hey! Blondie!"

She jumped at the loud exclamation and she turned to look at him with wide eyes. She was even more stunning in the light and he was instantly zoned in on the woman.

"Oh… hi there." She answered bashfully, a small smile and blush on her face. "Natsu… right?"

"Right," he leaned against the counter, dipping his head down to come eye level with her, peeking at her through her baseball cap. "I think it's a bit of a disadvantage that you know my name but I don't know yours." He grinned at her.

Her smile grew slightly as she turned to exchange a look with Mirajane and he never quite understood what these silent eye-talk girls did. It was a bit creepy in his books.

"Natsu, do you really not know who she is?" The platinum blonde asked, leaning into the counter where they both stood on the other side. Natsu turned to quirk a brow at her as his eyes darted back and forth from the giggling blonde and beaming bartender.

"Uhh… am I supposed to?"

"Let's keep it that way," she tossed a playful wink his way before turning back to Mira. "Can we get three orders of cranberry vodkas?"

"Right away!" Mirajane sang before she was off to mix the drinks, leaving the two alone once more.

Natsu stayed quiet as he stared at the blonde, taking in her physique and trying to rack through his brain to see if he knew this girl. He was just secretly hoping it wasn't one of his past flings but from the way she's acting, she didn't seem like she really was trying to get back into his pants or flirt her way into his bed. But he knew she did look a little familiar from the jump, he just didn't know where he's seen her before.

"Are you really not going to tell me your name?"

"Nope," she popped the P as she drummed her fingers on the counter.

"Is it a secret or something? Are you under witness protection that I shouldn't bother to know what your name is?" He probed, leaning in closer to smell her sweet sugary scent.

She giggled cutely at his comment and the way her eyes lit up made him want to think of this as a win but she just shook her head. "No, I'm not under witness protection."

"Then what is it? You have some big traumatic memory concerning your name? Or do you just not like your name so much that you hate saying it out loud?"

She was laughing even harder now and he really enjoyed the way it tinkered in his ears like bells. He was becoming addicted to hearing it and being near her that he wasn't aware of some of his teammates approaching until they came right beside him and startled him out of her orbit.

"Holy shit!" He turned around to see Nab, his team goalie, staring wide-eyed at the blonde he was currently trying to talk up. Couldn't he see that he was here first? "You—yo—you're Lucy!" He was half-shouting and Natsu quirked a brow at him, watching his cheeks flush. Lucy? Where had he heard that name before?

She was giggling again as if Nab was some fucking comedian when he wasn't and Natsu turned back to look at her.

"Yes, yes I am." She turned to look at him, grinning. "Guess the cat is out of the bag. You know my name."

"Where have I heard your—"

"I'm such a huge fan!" Nab's irritating voice was still right beside him and Natsu frowned while glaring over his shoulder at his teammate who couldn't get the hint. He excitedly stepped forward. "Can we take a photo?"

"Of course!" She chirped happily and Natsu was dumbfounded when he was pushed to the side before Nab came in where he was to snap a selfie with the blonde.

Natsu's eyes were ping-ponging between the two as they chatted happily and he didn't know what this awful gut twist feeling he had watching Nab talk with Lucy like this. She was clearly someone who the public knew and even her name was ringing bells but he just couldn't figure out the life of him on who this—

"I must say, I wouldn't expect a model like yourself to be in such a pub like this in town."

Model?

"My friend Juvia invited me out since I was in town. I have a small break in between until the holidays before I have to fly back to Paris for my holiday collection shoot."

Photo shoot… model… Lucy… as in…

"You're Lucy Heartfillia?!" Natsu nearly screeched in disbelief, his jaw practically hanging off its hinges at the sight of the one and only.

Lucy Heartfillia, one of the most popular uprising models who had made her debut into society merely a year ago. She mainly did lingerie as she was a VS model in the fashion show but she also dabbled in other stuff with clothing brands, make up, perfume, and so on.

No wonder she looked so familiar. The amount of times his teammates have talked about her and even her many ads that were plastered around billboards and television screens were no joke.

And here he was, acting like some kind of hockey brute that thought she was just some regular ass puck bunny trying to get into his pants. He was so far off of it and now he must look like a fucking idiot.

He was gaping like a goldfish out of water, unsure how to handle this new information as Lucy was happily chatting with Nab as if they were old friends. It brought some type of irritation inside of his chest to think Nab had any right bursting his bubble right now and chatting up this beautiful model. He was here first and he called dibs because she was the reason why he was so distracted on the ice and she was also the one making his heart thump so obnoxiously.

"Can I buy you a drink?" Natsu asked as Mirajane had finally returned with those cranberry vodkas. He had chased Nab away with one of his glares and he was quick to take the hint and dip out of there as if he was never there in the first place.

Lucy turned to look at him with a coy smile on her face, a small dimple poking out of her cheek. "I have three here already."

"How about another three?"

She giggled once more and she gave him a playful smile. "If I didn't know any better, I would say you're hitting on me."

"Is it obvious?" His sheepish smile gave him such an adorable expression.

She snorted in response and turned to him slightly, facing him even more as he straightened himself. "Just because you found out I'm a model now, you want to flirt with me?"

"I wanted to flirt with you before I even knew you were a model," he shot back, leaning against his elbow as he smirked. "The model part is just a bonus now."

"Did you really not know who I was?"

"You looked familiar but I had a hard time figuring out from where but now that I do, I feel a bit stupid that I didn't."

She raised a brow at him, silent and looking as if she was thinking.

God she was stunning. She was a few inches shorter than he was but she also wore heels to boost herself up, possibly three or four. Her jeans were sinfully tight on her till they opened up by her ankles and knowing what this woman looked like just in a pair of bra and panties, he knew what she had to offer underneath all those layers.

"Is the hat for disguise?" he asked, getting a bit impatient with her silence. He had to figure out a way to score with this one and he was running out of things to say. Maybe push this up a notch and play one of his secret cards.

"More or less."

"Well, it worked. Pretty damn well." He offered her a smirk and she tilted her head to the side. He just wanted to grab her and assault those pretty plump lips of hers. "But isn't this a bit too cliche? Maybe it's not written in the stars."

"What do you mean?"

"A pro hockey player with an incredibly sexy model? There's no way that could work."

"Oh yeah?" She was smiling at him, leaning in closer. "And what makes you think it wouldn't?"

Natsu had to bite down the grin that wanted to overpower his features because holy shit his plan was actually working.

Trying to appear nonchalant, Natsu shrugged one of his shoulders and took a sip from his beer. "The pressure is just too much. Our schedules would clash, our fans would be heartbroken, the public might combust having two incredibly good looking people together, and we can't have that now, could we? The world might as well implode."

She was laughing at his poor performance but it still made him feel better about himself. She was laughing because of something he said and she was entertaining him just as much. Could his luck really be this great? Or is she just too polite to reject his advances?

"That does sound pretty terrible," she said while wiping the tears from her eyes. "can't disappoint the fans now, can we?"

"But you see…" Natsu's eyes went straight for hers, pinning her to the spot as she raised a brow at him. He leaned in a bit closer, finding his face inches away from her own as her cheeks dusted pink and she almost went cross eyed. His hot breath tickled her neck and he could see the hair rising, a wild grin smearing across his face in victory. "I'm not really the one who really cares about all that. I'm kind of a wild card. A stubborn mule. When I want something… in this case, someone, I would burn the world trying to get what's mine."

He leaned away from her space to go back to his cup of beer that was slowly growing lukewarm. The sparkly ale slid down his throat in a satisfying way, his dark eyes swirling with the feelings of want and desire while she blinked up at him.

Her pupils were blown wide and her cheeks were a beautiful rosy color. She had a small smile curving up on those plump lips of hers and she glanced in some direction as if she knew whoever over there was watching and then she turned back at him, smile growing wider.

He curled her finger inwards to indicate for him to come closer and he came back down, leaning into her space as he lended her his ear.

Her breath tickled him and he shivered slightly at how close she was, inhaling her sweet scent that was just so arousing he wanted to bathe himself in it.

"I'm not sure if you'll be able to handle such a gal like me but if you're so willing to see the world implode around us, give me a call."

He felt her tuck something into his pants pocket and then she was gone and he's never felt colder than before. But it was so hard to think he was that cold when he took the card out of his pocket to flip it over to see it was her business card that also had her personal cell on it. The best part? It had a photo of her on the back and it was one nice fucking photo. A photo he would not have an issue hanging up on his wall.

Right after he watches the world implode around them.
