Season 3: Episode 4

Despite the fear that had pervaded the home the day before, things seemed to calm down following Eliza's safe return from her trip to the pool with the others. As such the Morales house was still and peaceful that night, all members of the family were safe asleep in bed, for the Morales family felt, with Rick on the case, that the Saviours would soon be having troubles of their own, giving them a chance. Fate however was about to rebuke them with terrifying swiftness. Eliza let out a soft breath as she rolled over in her sleep. A smile crossing her face as she dreamed of the future plans she and her friends had for summer vacation. That was until her eyes shot open and she let out a muffled gasp through the hand clamped over her mouth.

"You're looking too much into this Rick, they probably just fled or went into hiding. These people after them are serious news after all."

"That doesn't make any sense, Leon." Rick replied as he glared at Leon Bassett.

Leon was still young, but certainly didn't have the excuse of being a rookie anymore. Rick wasn't fond of the man, mainly due to his lack of seriousness about his duties. It had been three days and concerns were building for the Morales family who had not been seen at during those days.

"They approached me to help them with this." Rick explained. "They wouldn't just take off...not without warning me first."

Leon shook his head. "Maybe they didn't have time."

"Look it's perfectly simple." Another deputy named Lambert cut in. "Rick, just go around to the house and check on them. You're working a case for them, so a visit like that would be perfectly natural."

"I guess, I guess you're right." Rick replied at last, picking up his hat.

Putting it on and getting up from his desk, Rick headed out to his car, got in and drove off to the Morales house.

Arriving he pulled up and got out, scanning the place worriedly. At a glance it was just another typical, nice, suburban home. But to Rick's trained eye he could see something was off. The curtains were still drawn for starters, despite the bright sunny day and the garden showed no signs of being tended to throughout the time frame that the family had been missing. A feeling of anxiety building in his gut, Rick approached the door and knocked.

"Mr. Morales!?" He called out. "Mrs. Morales, Eliza, Louis!? It's Rick Grimes!"

There was no answer, putting Rick even more on edge. He cautiously tried the door and, as he half expected and feared, it opened. A hand on his gun, grim faced, Rick crossed the threshold and looked around. The place was still, quiet, the dust that had settled was indeed three days old, matching the family's time of disappearance. His concern mounting, Rick kept his ear cocked for any approaching sounds as he knelt down to examine the front door, namely the lock.

'Fresh scratches, not good.' He realised. 'The lock's been picked.'

Rick stood, drawing his gun as he moved cautiously through the house, keeping close to the walls to avoid potential evidence contamination. The house seemed normal, until he reached and looked into each of the bedrooms and saw the obvious signs of multiple struggles.

He was immediately on his radio. "Deputy Grimes here, I'll need units and forensics at the Morales household...we've got a kidnapping, four victims, the whole family."

He quickly gave the address and moved to wait outside to keep the scene secure.

Unaware of the true horrors that had happened, while still concerned for the Morales family, Jamie and Carl had almost cancelled their date that night, the others thinking of cancelling their plans. But they were encouraged not to, so, with that concern still in the back of their minds, the two boys went on their date. Exiting the arcade at the end of the evening, their hands linked, the two boys smiled at each other. They had dressed casually for their date, given they were simply going to be spending it together at the local arcade. Both in jeans while Jamie wore a red tank-top under an unzipped black hoodie, black socks and sneakers, Carl meanwhile wore a pale blue T-shirt, white socks and sneakers.

"That was awesome." Jamie remarked happily.

"Yeah, I really enjoyed it." Carl agreed, before looking serious. "I better get home, maybe Dad's heard something."

Jamie nodded. "Hopefully."

Even with their concern and sudden seriousness, the happy couple basked in the peace of being together, at least until they started to approach the street and found themselves face to face with a rather angry looking Shane, who was clearly not back on duty yet, being clad in black jeans, a white tank-top and black boots.

"Carl." He snapped. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

Carl glared at Shane's obvious disgust directed at them. "None of your business Shane, go away."

"It's my business when you go around disgracing yourself like this in public, holding that boy's hand. Just think how heartbroken your mother must feel, knowing her son is a-" Shane snarled.

Carl scoffed. "You don't know the first thing about mom, Shane, stop pretending you do."

Shane glowered at that, unable to believe the disrespect he was hearing from Carl.

He glared at the red-headed boy who he knew was to blame for this.

"Should've known you'd be trouble, corrupting Carl and making him think this was alright, I should-"

"Back the fuck up and leave Jamie alone." Carl snapped, getting right up to Shane, despite Shane's far greater height. "Listen Shane, you don't get a say in my life and really, I couldn't give a damn about your opinion, you're not related to me in any way, my mom already knows about Jamie and I and she's happy for us, dad is happy for us. So do us a favour and fuck off."

"How dare you-?" Shane began.

But again he was interrupted.

"How dare you actually, think you have the right to threaten somebody."

They all turned to see a familiar couple. It was Brian and Beth, who had also been out on a date. Beth in simple jeans, a white T-shirt under a black unzipped hoodie and simple white flats while Brian wore black jeans, socks and sneakers and white T-shirt. Most notably, Beth had her phone out and pointing right at Shane.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Shane snapped.

Beth smirked. "Got it all on video, wonder what the other guys at the station will say when they see this."

Brian glared at Shane, stepping up to him, not being someone Shane could intimidate with his height, due to being just as tall himself.

"Get out of here, now, you're a disgrace."

"You'll pay for this, every one of you." Shane snarled.

With that he stalked off, leaving them alone.

Beth sighed and put her phone away, turning to Jamie and Carl, both of them now clearly shaken.

"Are you two okay?"

"Yeah, we'll be fine, thanks." Jamie said after a moment.

Carl nodded. "I just can't believe he, this can't go on."

Brian smiled gently. "It won't, Beth and I are taking that video to the station as soon as possible...you should maybe tell your dad too."

"Don't worry about him though." Beth reassured them. "You have us, and everyone else, you'll be fine."

They smiled at that, comforted and reassured by their friends.
