The Saiyan Devil
Chapter 26
King Sadala left no room for arguments; his voice was as commanding as the bellow of a Lion King. The four Saiyans, who had been training in secret for the past year, felt an indescribable chill run up their spines, and if they still possessed tails, they certainly would have puffed up as if struck by static shock.
King Sadala's hazel eyes moved from side to side, observing the four Saiyans with a stern and sharp eye. Taking a step back, he sighed and placed his hands behind his back, resuming a straightened posture.
"King Sadala, it is not in our intention to keep a secret from you," Cabba found the courage to speak. His fists were clenched, considering he felt guilty lying about the Tournament of Power.
"Hmm," Sadala hummed, raising his head; he closed his eyes. "They'll arrive soon. We'll discuss further when they're here."
"Tch," Caulifla snickered, wanting to leave this wretched place immediately.
…
The group of four Saiyans decided to enjoy the festivities, much to Caulifla's dismay.
Celeon walked around the capital square, staring at a large sculpture of King Sadala. It looked exactly like him, giving off the same authority he would in the flesh. Despite that, it also gave everyone, young and old, a sense of safety and security.
King Sadala represented the embodiment of a Universe 6 Saiyan: pride, charisma, strength, and courage. Seeing him alongside you was akin to a cure, nullifying your doubt and fear.
The breeze lightly brushed against Celeon, causing his hooped earring to sway. His charcoal eyes remained fixated on the statue before he felt the presence of two individuals.
They were undoubtedly the King's commanders. They stood above the Defense Force and usually operated as a duo.
"Can you feel that?"
Celeon turned his head to see Kale drinking a glass of green juice, the earth's equivalent of a Green Smoothie. The juice was primarily made of Broccoli and other fruits found on the planet.
"I do, looks like it's time."
"Here."
Kale handed over the second glass, which he accepted with no complaints. Kale practically forced him to start drinking the smoothie a while ago, and ever since, he couldn't stop drinking it.
It was too good!
"Thanks. So, how're you feeling?"
"Huh? Oh, I'm fine. The King is…well, the King."
Celeon sipped on his drink, savoring the taste for a moment.
"He's still strong. I boldly assumed I surpassed him a while ago, but it seems I didn't. Can you imagine how strong his Super Saiyan form would be if his base is that strong?"
Kale sighed, frowning a bit as she quietly stared at her juice.
"It's a scary thought, but he's the King for a reason. Outside of royal blood, he is the closest to a perfect Saiyan. And knowing how he is, he would jump at the chance to meet the Universe Seven Saiyans."
Kale made a valid point. King Sadala may keep a calm and fierce appearance, but he does love fighting. He has a habit of fighting the captains of the Defense Force any chance he could get.
He balanced his habits with his duties, making a perfect blend. It could explain why he still possesses a strong spirit despite being unable to transform into a Super Saiyan.
Or perhaps he didn't need it?
The King won all his battles without showing signs of panic, weakness, or rage.
Celeon knew there were different ways to trigger the Super Saiyan State.
Rage, instinct, frustration, or, in Kale's case, being chosen as the Legendary Super Saiyan and reaching a certain threshold. There may be many ways to achieve it, yet they remain undiscovered.
"That may be why my parents were close friends with the King. He's like a magnet…could also explain why I can't find it within myself to hate him."
"I don't think you hate anyone…"
"I hate Frost," Celeon immediately replied with a snicker, getting Kale to giggle.
"I forgot about him…maybe I shouldn't. He's a problem."
"Yes, which reminds me of the deal I heard from the Arlians."
"Deal?"
Celeon nodded. "Supposedly, the King wanted a peace treaty, though it looked like the King was trying to get Arlians under control. I don't know what for."
"Don't let it bother you. I'm sure the King had the universe's interest in mind. If I remember, the Arlians were problematic."
"Yeah…"
Celeon still had a few doubts, but he knew the King was trying to help the innocent Arlians escape a corrupt regime. He was sure this was to avoid a possible war.
Supposedly, Arlians could go through an evolution, although it has yet to be confirmed.
"Could that be why King Sadala made that decision?"
"Ah!" Celeon was brought out of his thoughts as he felt his left cheek being pulled.
"Stop overthinking…"
With an audible slap sound, Kale released his face. Celeon rubbed the spot, noticing a slight stinging sensation. Kale was stronger than before and now usually wins the training sessions.
For some reason, Kale has difficulty keeping her Berserk State under wraps and usually reverts to going Berserk. She usually listens to his voice now, but it only sometimes works.
"Let's head back," Kale said, grasping Celeon's free hand. Together, they sipped on their juice as they returned to the palace.
Cabba returned first, considering it was in his nature to be early. This situation required his immediate attention, so much so that he stayed within a reasonable distance.
"Well, if it isn't Cabba, did you get taller?"
Cabba turned his head, and two figures entered his sight. He immediately recognized them.
"It's great to see you both, Miss Karela and Sir Kabu," Cabba responded with a kind smile.
"Still respectable as always. I said drop the formalities. We're pretty much around the same age," Karela grunted in displeasure. Referring to her with such respect made her stomach coil.
"Sorry, it's a habit," Cabba sheepishly rubbed his head.
"Yo! You're taller than me now," Kabu, unlike his sister, hastily went up to Cabba and patted him on the shoulder. "You're…stronger now? We usually get our growth spurts either with puberty or power."
"…Haha" Cabba nervously chuckled. "I guess you can say that."
"Great, you two are here; go eat, and we can discuss matters later."
"King Sadala, I want to fight with the Saiyans who achieved the next step!" Karela declared fiercely like a lioness, making the King sigh.
Cabba was utterly silent and confused.
"Could it be!" Cabba felt his heart sink. His eyes widened before he turned to look at the King.
"As you may have guessed, Cabba. But what we're referring to is the Super Saiyan state."
"I-I see…"
"So Cabba, I didn't think you'd be able to reach it, especially with how you act…" Karela narrowed her eyes.
"We're back!" A voice announced, earning everyone's gaze.
"Oh! If it isn't Celeon," Karela eyed the tall Saiyan through her narrowed eyes. "You're still a prodigy at keeping your ki as minuscule as possible, huh?"
Karela tilted her head and noticed Kale and Caulifla, making her smirk.
"Well, this is surprising! There's no way Kale could have achieved it…Caulifla, I can understand, and Celeon…it's possible."
"You wanna fight!?" Caulifla was already irritated, and Karela's condescending attitude didn't help.
"Yeah, why the hell not? I wonder if you're any better now."
"By the Gods," The King rubbed his temples, releasing a heavy breath.
…
Taking them to a remote location, the King and everyone else except Caulifla and Karela stood to the side as the two female Saiyans stretched.
Celeon and Kale casually sipped their juice while holding hands. They weren't worried about the fight. Caulifla could hold her own.
Caulifla positioned her arms in front of her like a boxer. Karela positioned her right leg forward, adopting a serious look.
Although you can argue that Caulifla and Karela were similar, they would deny it or beat you up. Whether it was due to their pride or being both considered prodigies, they disliked each other.
And this fight was an excuse to blow off steam.
"You both will fight until one surrenders or one is knocked out! You may begin!"
Caulifla and Karela moved from their respective positions with incredible speed. Karela bent her knee and spun, her foot sliced through the air like a katana, while Caulifla guarded against the incoming kick by bringing up her right arm and blocking with her forearm.
The attack rippled through the air as if sending a message to the clouds. The two female Saiyans didn't hesitate to continue their fight. Caulifla maneuvered her left arm and attempted to grab Karela's raised leg, but the latter flipped back onto her hands and spun around.
Caulifla went on the defense, blocking the spinning kicks that could be mistaken for twisters. Karela, unlike most, was a fighter who used kicks, causing her to stand out amongst other Saiyans.
Caulifla moved her right leg back and spun on her heel, using her left foot to hit Karela's hands. Karela twirled in the air as her balance was disrupted and landed a few feet away.
Caulifla didn't hesitate to approach, sending a flurry of punches, which Karela maneuvered with graceful steps like a ballet dancer. Caulifla straightened her body before going for a right hook. Karela bent her right leg before spinning on her left, going for a rear kick.
Karela struck Caulifla in her shin, knocking her off balance, but the latter rolled forward and kicked the ground, causing it to crack. Karela turned around and used her left arm to block a cross punch, but Caulifla quickly went for a fast rear uppercut that slammed against Karela's chin, sending her into the air.
Karela froze in the air before rushing back at breakneck speeds. Caulifla jumped back as Karela crashed into the ground like a tactical rocket. Dust imploded, flying into the air and causing the sky to become dusty brown.
Caulifla got into a proper stance and brought her hands above her chin. Her eyes scanned the murky area, seemingly unaffected by the annoyance dust would bring to her eyes.
The sound of a pebble could be heard to Caulifla's left, causing her to turn. A boot crashed into her, but her arms were up, creating a solid defense.
However, Caulifla couldn't react as the boot quickly retracted and disappeared. Caulifla felt her instincts shout, causing her to move her head back. Her eyes shrunk as she saw the visage of a boot split the air, causing some of the dust to disappear.
Caulifla began to punch the air, causing ki blasts to erupt within the dust cloud. She knew the dust cloud would be a problem, so she spun in a circle while shooting ki blasts from her fists.
The dust that sullied the air dispersed under Caulifla's mild frustration, causing the clear skies to seep across the training ground.
Caulifla scanned the environment but was nowhere to be seen, causing slight discomfort to run through Caulifla's body.
"Where the fu—GAH!"
A strong pain lodged into Caulifla's gut, and her mouth instinctively opened to spit out blood; however, due to her holding her ground, with her feet stuck to the ground, she didn't fly away but instead skidded across the floor, leaving black marks behind.
The faint smell of burning rubble permeated the area, and in a flash, Karela appeared behind Caulifla, aiming for a kick toward Caulifla's neck. The shorter female Saiyan was prepared. Her body moved to the left, letting Karela fall. In the same sequence, Caulifla moved her body quickly, her arm bent and connected directly to Karela's stomach, and with a little push, Caulifla blasted Karela with a ki blast.
Caulifla still had blood smeared on her lips as she stared at her opponent, who recovered from the blow quickly. This caused Caulifla to smirk.
"You're not too bad, but there's more to your power than just that, right?"
You would expect Caulifla to say those words, but they came from Karela. It wasn't her usual sarcastic and overbearing tone but one of slight surprise and respect. She didn't think Caulifla would pose a challenge, but she seemed worth her salt.
"Yeah, let's kick this up a notch!"
Caulifla tightened her fists. Her black hair swayed as the wind began to pick up. The pebbles on the ground shook in fear before floating around Caulifla. Her hair shifted between black and gold.
Naturally, this turn of events surprised the Saiyan King, Kabu, and Karela.
"To think she truly possesses the Super Saiyan state…"
AN: And cliffhanger, I hate those so much, but I feel it worked well this time, so don't hate me too. If you didn't notice, I suck at the romance department, but I'll try my best for that. I don't have too much to say about this chapter.
Gilgamesh 50—I understand your perspective, but I never planned to make the King weak and insignificant. Before I even started writing this story, I had planned for him to be relevant, and this arc is about the Saiyans and how Super Saiyan will flip everything on its head. Now, sure, Celeon is strong; he's been training for a year, but if I put him at his peak against a full-powered Jiren with no one else, Celeon is not beating him on his own; this doesn't mean he won't surpass him, but I don't want Celeon to be that strong just yet. Much growth will occur in this arc, not just for Celeon but for everyone else, which will tie in with the next arc. I hope I didn't come off as rude, but I wanted to convey that.
I want to thank everyone for the influx of favorites and follows. It means a lot and shows that people are reading. Feel free to review it and let me know your thoughts. I read them, after all.
If you feel generous and think this deserves money(somehow), you can donate a dollar. I won't lock my stuff behind a paywall, so you're all reading stuff simultaneously.
