AN: Sorry about how long the update took. I can now unfortunately say through fist hand experience that getting hit in the face with an airbag SUCKS.
AN2: Also, wanted to clear something up. In chapter one I mentioned Percy and Annabeth were as close as siblings. They didn't start dating in this timeline, that way I could allow more options for pairings. That said after everyone's reactions to the last chapter I did decide on a change to my original idea which takes place in this chapter.
Wait, I reincarnated as a WHAT?! 3
Chapter 3
-Annabeth-
"Are you sure Hades?" Zeus demanded, the king of the gods looking almost terrified as Hades stood before the council, informing them that Percy's soul had never arrived in his domain, something Nico had informed her and the others about that morning.
"For the tenth time Zeus, yes!" Hades snapped, the lord of the dead flickering between Hades and Pluto, "His soul never arrived. Charon had been given specific orders to bring his soul directly to the palace upon his arrival. He didn't find his way to the entrance on his own and Hermes never found it either. Something else took him." Beside her, the other leaders from both Camps stood impatient, all of them wanting answers as to what had happened.
"Could it be the group from Boston?" Hermes asked with a frown, the god of messengers having apparently not taken someone snagging Percy's soul from under his nose well.
"I already checked with them." Hades shook his head, "We'll have to check with Moros but…I think it was the Central Axis."
"We do not speak of that!" Zeus's voice echoed with thunder, but the damage was already done. Every demigod and Satyr in the room turned their attention on Hades.
"What is the Central Axis?" Annabeth snarled, "A group of necromancers? Rogue gods?"
"If they've taken Percy then the demigods deserve to know brother." Hestia scolded Zeus who looked displeased but relented, nodding silently for them to continue.
"This world, our world…is not the only one to exist." Her mother explained awkwardly, the wisdom goddess having not met Annabeth's eyes since the Mark of Athena quest.
"Are…are you seriously telling me Percy got Isekaid?" Leo was gaping, Calypso holding the son of Hephaestus close.
"Unfortunately, yes. It would seem that way." Athena grumbled at both the interruption and the 'juvenile' term used, "The world in question that interacts with ours the most is known as 'The Central Axis World'. We don't know much about it to be honest, but we do know that sometimes people slip from our world into theirs, picked by some power in that world. Other times, people in that world deliberately summon those from this one to use as weapons."
"Weapons?!" Nico snarled, only a hair ahead of Annabeth with his reaction as the shadows roiled and lashed around him.
"Most of what we know is from Moros." Hades nodded, just as displeased as his son "As the lord of Impending Doom he can see into other timelines at times. That makes him the most sensitive of us to these other worlds. I've already sent for him to be roused from his slumber and brought to Olympus to try and find what happened to Percy." She waited, tapping her foot impatiently until Moros finally arrived, the god of Doom who even Zeus had no power over, looking far from the imposing force of nature his domain would imply. He did have a serious expression on his face, something that had the other gods even more panicked.
"I checked the spot of Percy Jackson's Death." Moros's voice wasn't loud, but it still seemed to fill the room, carrying undeniable weight, "His soul was pulled into the Central Axis world at the time of his death, reincarnating him."
"Can you get him back?" Annabeth demanded, ignoring her mother's terrified gasp at her making any demands of a god like Moros.
"No, daughter of Wisdom." He shook his head, "He has already died in this world, so it was just his soul that passed into the Central Axis world. In there though, he was fully reincarnated, so he is once again alive. If we'd been aware of the attempt at the moment then I or Hades could have stopped the attempt and allowed his soul to remain here, but we did not know. That said, there is a lingering thread at the site of Perseus Jackson's final moments. It's enough for me to send a single soul to that world. But that is all I can do."
At that, Annabeth frowned, sharing a look with the other demigods.
Nico was 'The Ghost King', someone with a title and responsibilities in the underworld.
Frank had been named Praetor during the journey to Greece and Rome, Hazel having been named the second Praetor when Reyna stepped down once the war ended. They both had their duties looking after the Roman demigods and the city of New Rome.
Jason was the Pontifex Maximus, overseeing the creation of temples for every god Major and Minor in both camps. His girlfriend Piper was the head of the Aphrodite campers and wasn't just going to abandon them to Drew again or leave her boyfriend behind.
Leo was the head of the Hephaestus cabin who had been lost without Beckendorf until he arrived, and Leo was now dating Calypso who had been wanting to see the world for centuries.
She herself, along with being the 'Architect' of Olympus, was the leader of the Greek camp. It was a responsibility Percy had given to her and she didn't think she could look him in the eye if she just abandoned everything.
"I can go." A voice brought her out of her continued attempts to think of who could be sent. Glancing up, she saw Reyna stepping before the gods, "I don't have anything holding me back like the others do." The pained look on the Daughter of Bellona's face was stomach turning. Reyna had shouldered a great deal of the blame for Octavian's actions, for the war between the two camps. Her sister dying in the war against Gaea only further reinforced Reyna's grief as the demigoddess had seemed lost and unsure of herself ever since the war ended.
"Are you sure?" Moros looked Reyna in the eye, "If you do this then there's no coming back. And you'll end up going through the same process that happened to Percy. The body you have here will die and you will be reincarnated. Do you still intend to do this?"
"Yes." Reyna nodded, "I will."
"Then I shall prepare what is needed." Moros nodded, "In three days I will send you to the Central Axis world, I can at least ensure you'll arrive relatively near where Perseus did. Use this time to say your goodbyes and wrap up any unfinished business."
-Percy-
Glancing at the trio of humans who were going deeper into the cave he'd finally managed to leave, Percy shook his head. They were definitely adventurers, but they didn't seem like the smartest bunch, leaving the door to the cave wide open. Just because he'd dealt with all the attacking monsters inside doesn't mean they knew that. Continuing on outside, relishing the feel of the sun for the first time since he'd arrived in this world, Percy glanced around.
"Percy, there are a group of monsters approaching your location." The voice of Wise Girl commented, having access to the various other skills he'd acquired by eating the monsters in Veldora's dungeon, including the sensory abilities of the bats. Turning at Wise Girl's direction, he saw a group of small green people approaching. They were scrawny, many of them covered in bandages or injuries while brandishing rusty iron weapons. And every one of them looked terrified.
"S-strong One!" the lead Goblin, or at least he thought they were goblins, stepped forward "Do you have any business in this part of the forest?"
"Nothing specific, why?" Percy studied them, used to this song and dance, fully aware that they planned to ask for something. They were too scared and too battered to be trying to threaten him, so they likely wanted his help. Veldora had mentioned that the naming process as he used it would mark Percy as his equal so it stood a good chance that someone had some sort of sensor skill that could feel that.
"I…please sir, we beseech thee." The lead Goblin continued to bow, the others following suit "We need your help."
"Alright, stop bowing." Percy shook his head "I really don't like groveling. I'll at least hear you out, but I don't promise anything more than that."
"Oh, thank you sir!" the lead goblin looked close to crying from relief as he and his fellows led him back to a small ramshackle village that was barely standing. A single unintended sneeze from Veldora would likely be enough to level the place.
"Thank you for coming here." An old goblin, trembling from either nerves or age, greeted him in the sturdiest looking hut, the goblin who'd led him here kneeling beside him, "I am the elder of this village."
"I am grateful to be a guest in your home." Percy nodded back, still used to the concept of Guest Rights from Camp Half-Blood, "I was told that you wished to ask me for a favor?"
"Yes." The old goblin looked down "It's the other monsters who have grown more active as of late. They've been attacking our village, our people. Our god Veldora, who's presence had once protected us vanished recently and with his disappearance, came the wolves." Percy could hear the grief in the old man's voice at that, the younger goblin placing a hand on the elder's shoulder.
"We tried fighting them off ourselves but…we didn't have the strength or numbers. The strongest of them, my brother Rigur, died protecting us. He was the only named Goblin we had. Without him it takes ten goblins to have even a chance of defeating a single Dire Wolf…but our numbers are roughly equal to the pack attacking us, and that's including those unable to fight any longer."
"I see." Percy grimaced, "Your named guardian fought until the end to protect his home? He sounds like an honorable man." it was a sentiment that caused a familiar ache in him. Over the years and his adventures with the gods, he'd grown used to being able to tell when someone was lying and he didn't sense any deceit from the goblins, only grief and fear.
"Yes…that warrior gave his life to ensure the information he carried came back to us." The elder had tears prickling in his eyes now as he bowed before Percy "He…he was my eldest son."
"With my brother gone, I thought we were doomed before I sensed you out in the forest." The younger goblin was also crying as he bowed again, "Please Strong One, please save our village."
"I do have a price." Percy spoke softly as the two goblins looked up, hope starting to form in their eyes. They knew if he had a price then he would be willing to help. He didn't want to extort them, but he knew how much injured pride could rankle someone, it was best to ask for something simple to avoid that fate.
"What is your price my lord? We will give anything!" The elder looked close to begging.
"I simply want permission to make a home here too." Percy spoke gently. Veldora had helped him find his feet in this world, and was now his brother in a way. If Veldora was the guardian who'd protected these Goblins before then he'd do so now in the dragon's stead until Veldora was free once again.
"T-that's it?" the elder gasped, as if unable to fathom so simple a price.
"That's it." Percy nodded, trying to convey a gentle smile through his slime form. Before the old goblin could say anything else, a loud howl filled the air, coming from the distance as those outside the hut started to panic. Seeing the elder trying to calm the Goblins, Percy moved forward. As he moved, he used the determination, the need of the moment to push his shape changing ability as he finally took a shape that resembled his old body, just made of dark blue slime.
"Everyone be calm!" Percy called, his voice carrying over the sound of panic and the fading echo of the Dire Wolf's howl, "I am here in my brother's stead."
"Y-your brother?" the elder looked confused even as the other goblins looked stunned at his new appearance.
"I am Perseus Thýella!" he clenched his fist, "Brother to Veldora Thýella! I am the Tempest who shall protect this place in my brother's stead until his return!" if they were worshippers of Veldora then being at least a little dramatic with this would probably help reassure them.
"Y-you are the brother to the great Dragon?" The elder looked stunned.
"He declared me his brother, granted me my name." Percy nodded, "But that can wait. For now, we have to prepare the village. The Dire Wolves will not take another goblin here!" his words became a roar, a declaration against the world as the goblins around him cheered.
"Elder, take me to where your injured are." Percy looked to the aged goblin that was still gaping, "The rest of you, gather timber and tools. We need to make a fence around the village to help with the attack!" the goblins scrambled, hurrying to carry out his orders as the older one snapped out of his shock and led him to the largest building.
It was time to get to work.
