The Many Dates of Danny Fenton Danny and Luz
"So in the demon realm their idea of a school dance is a gladiator fight with a fear monster" Danny asked Luz who was telling Danny all about the adventures she had while on the Boiling Isles having told everything up to Grom
Except for a time she King and Eda had switched bodies to settle a bet something about an agreement to never talk about it again
"Sounds like the only school dance I went to where my best friend turned into a dragon"
"Yeah not too sure what they'll do next year since Amity and I turned Grom into a tree" Luz admitted "also lucky I never got to go to a school dance where someone turned into a dragon"
"You say that like it's a bad thing" Vee said not as excited about the idea of a dragon showing up at a school dance
The two teens one human the other basilisk disguised as a human entered the Robins roast coffee shop where Luz's mentor Eds the Owl Lady had caused some chaos here according to that old article that was on the cabin floor
Hopefully she left some magic stuff behind when she did
"Hi can I help you" the barista behind the counter asked
"Uh possibly" Danny asked looking up seeing a picture of Eda holding a struggling raccoon "that lady is um uh my aunt yeah the last time she was here did she leave of her stuff here" he said quickly coming up with a lie on his feet
"You mean Marilyn" the barista replied "no she hasn't showed up since she tried to buy a latte with a live raccoon than the weird thing with the croissants happened"
"What weird thing" Danny asked
"They started glowing and floating so we had to toss them out" the barista explained
'I wonder if Eda did something to mess with the croissants' Danny thought from the stories Luz she would for sure do something like that to mess with people leaving the Robins roast
Danny and Vee headed into the alley the stink from coming from the dumpsters was a lot like the river of revulsion how a dumpster behind a coffee shop reeked that bad Danny didn't want to know
'When I came to visit Luz I didn't think dumpster diving would be part of the plan' Danny thought about to climb in when a bunch of glowing eyes appeared looking at them
Stepping out into the light were some crazed looking rats who looked like they were jumped up on way too much espresso
"Bread of wisdom gives us minds we desire more" the rats said in unison slowly inching towards the teens creeping Danny out
And he fought ghosts
"Cool talking rats maybe you could get some magic from them Vee" Luz suggested Danny was thinking the same thing as his girlfriend figuring one source of magic was as good as another
But Vee clearly thought differently her skin had paled she was sweating and she looked to be on the verge of a panic attack Vee broke into a dead sprint leaving the alley
"Vee" Danny shouted concerned for the basilisk chasing after her leaving the talking rats behind
Catching up to Vee in a park by a statue of two guys from the 1700s Vee was breathing heavily as she leaned against a statue
"Vee are you okay" Danny asked Vee looked at Danny like a deer caught in the headlights Danny didn't know for sure but he got the feeling Vee left the Demon realm for a reason though Danny wasn't sure why
"I'm sorry" Vee said catching her breath
"Hey hey Vee it's okay you're okay we'll find some other magic thing if we have to Danny will steal a magic thing from Zatarra or some other magic superhero"
Danny nodded
Sure stealing is wrong but he didn't want his new friend to get dissected 'maybe I could ask Gwen wait a second why didn't I think of that sooner she probably has some magic stuff we could borrow'
Danny was about to suggest calling the red head Tennyson when Luz shouted loudly getting everyones attention pointing to some guys that looked their age playing with a deck of cards
"Uh Luz what does nerd poker have to do with helping Vee" Danny asked
"I don't know what nerd poker is but I know what those are they're Hexes holdem cards they're from the demon realm" Luz explained Vee took a sniff
"Those cards don't have any magic left though" Vee said "but they probably know where to get more"
Vee started walking towards them Luz tried to call her back "oh man she's going to get made fun of" Danny heard his girlfriend mutter Danny looked down at the screen
"Everything okay Luz" Danny asked noticing how she was looking away from the screen
"What oh nothing Danny everything's fine" Luz quickly replied obviously lying as she couldn't make eye contact with Danny 'for someone whose being taught by a master conwoman she's not a good liar' Danny thought figuring out what made Luz so uncomfortable about the situation
"Looks like Vee's friends with them" Danny pointed out seeing Vee talk easily with them
"Yeah she's better at being me than me" Luz admitted with a slight frown "before I came to the Boiling Isles I didn't really have friends ever most people thought I was too weird"
"Well that's their loss" Danny told her "you're passionate funny smart beautiful anyone would be happy to have you as a friend I know I'm the luckiest guy alive to have you as a girlfriend" Danny rambled on but he didn't care since it cheered up his girlfriend
Luz smiled at him "you really think all that about me"
"Yeah I do" Danny answered smiling down at his girlfriend really wanting to be able to kiss her right now
The moment ended when out of the corner of his eye he saw Vee walking back towards them "so my friend Masha said that the historical center is selling the decks" Vee explained "come on it's a short walk there"
Like Vee said it was a short walk to the historical center when they got there Vee let out a small sneeze
"It's not that dusty in here is it" a brunette man said walking in carrying a crate the nametag on the desk read 'Jacob Hoskins' as he looked between Vee and Danny "let me guess you're here for those tarot cards"
"How'd you know" Vee asked
"They've been pretty popular with high school kids" the man explained "I got them from a woman she was gonna dump hundreds of decks into the river before I offered to take them off her hands for some reason she kept asking about snails" he explained
Danny knew from Luz's stories that snails was money in the Demon Realm though Danny wondered if Eda didn't know about human money or she did and just liked messing with people for fun
'Could probably go either way' Danny supposed not really knowing the lady
"So would you two like a deck" he asked
"Yes please" Vee answered politely
The guy nodded promising to be right back with a couple of decks one he was gone Vee looked away from Danny walking over to an exhibit case "Vee is everything okay"
"I don't get it" Vee said "I don't get you Luz you've got a good mom you've got Danny your life is perfect why would you run away why would you leave" Vee asked for the first time since Danny saw her getting angry at Luz "I don't understand you"
Danny didn't say anything Luz frowned looking like she was tongue tied she looked not sure what to say "I didn't mean to run away I just didn't want to lose what made me me" Luz
"My kind the basilisks went extinct ages ago the Emperors coven made us in a lab experimented on us in the conformatorium they wanted to understand how we absorb magic one night we were able to escape the Emperors coven chased after us we split up I hid until I saw you and you know the rest" Vee said hurt in her voice
Danny was speechless he didn't know what to say to apologize to Vee for the messed up things that happened to her to stick up to his girlfriend to point out to Vee how she essentially stole Luz's identity this was a messy situation and both sides weren't perfect
Vee sniffed the air "do you smell that it smells funny" she asked heading towards a door marked staff only Vee and Danny went through the half open door and what was inside was a lot of witch hunting merchandise a conspiracy board with clippings of Eda webpages talking about 'Fairy god parents' sightings blurry pictures of 'dragons' and lizards' in the sewers
And a lot of pictures of Danny Phantom including a paused shot of Danny flying into Gravesfield today
"Vee let's grab some cards and get out of here" Danny said not liking the looks of this place Vee nodded looking just as freaked out as he was when a cage dropped down trapping the two inside together
"No" Vee shouted terrified panicked dropping her form banging on the bars "let me out let me out"
"Don't worry Vee I'll get us out of here" Danny said reaching a hand out to touch the cage to turn it intangible so they'd be able to get out when he did though Danny felt a familiar burn something he hadn't felt since Salem
"Blood blossoms there's blood blossoms inside the metal I can't turn it intangible" Danny grit his teeth pulling back his hand
"That's right demons" the curator Jacob Hopkins said stepping into the option "I knew you'd show up here at some point but I didn't think it'd be this soon"
"What are you talking about we're just ordinary teenagers we have no idea who you are" Danny said stepping in front of Vee "we just came here to buy some of your tarot cards"
"Save your lies for someone more gullible ghost boy" Jacob said pulling out a remote pushing a button Danny followed the remote to a monitor that had footage of Danny outside of the cabin by Luz's house changing from Phantom into Fenton
Than it cut to footage inside of the cabin of Vee in her basilisk form
"Uh any chance you'd believe you're being pranked"
"Not a chance I know all about you demons I ran into one of your kind not too long ago" Jacob said pointing to a blurry picture of a giant owl looking thing judging by the look on Luz's face that was Eda in her cursed form
Crud this was bad this guy might actually know something about the demon realm he could turn them into the Guys in White or something
"How you're from Mars and how you came here to harvest our teeth to power your time machines" Jacob declared pointing at them "and you're the commanding officer Danny Phantom or should I say the Prince of Mars"
Okay this was the low point of Dannys superhero career getting caught by a conspiracy theory believer this was more embarrassing than losing to the Box Ghost
That was without a doubt the dumbest thing Danny had heard in a while
"You don't know anything about us do you" Vee asked surprisingly calmly
"I know plenty" Jacob denied
"Oh yeah well if Martians are invading than how do you explain Martian Manhunter" Danny asked bringing up one of the founding members of the Justice League
"Oh please everyone knows Martian Manhunter like Superman and Supergirl is a human super pretending to be an alien to avoid persecution from the anti super laws" Jacob explained as if Danny were an idiot "your martian mind tricks won't work on me I shield my mind from hypnosis by shampooing with peanut butter" he explained
Yep this was definitely the lowest point of Dannys superhero career
"Get comfortable Martians once the government thwarts your invasion you'll be spending the rest of your life in cages just like this one" Jacob swore before he left the office locking the door behind him
"Danny Vee are you okay"
"I'm fine Luz just embarrassed I got caught by a tinfoiler" Danny answered deadpanned looking to Vee "don't worry about that creep Vee he didn't bother to take our phones and I bet he didn't think to put blood blossoms in the floor I can phase us out of here"
"If you can get out of here Danny you should" Vee said glumly "but leave me here"
'Yeah no there's no way I'm doing that' Danny thought there's no way he was going to do that
"Vee I'm not leaving you here" Danny promised
"You should you can go home and Jacob can't do anything to you but he's seen what I look like he can show Camilla I won't have anywhere to go" Vee said looking dejectedly looking depressed "I've spent my life in a cage I'm used to it"
"Yeah well you're not going to spend another day in a cage" Danny said planning to turn intangible and go through the floor he'd kick Jacob the Tinfoilers butt and get Vee out of here
However a big problem with Dannys plan Danny couldn't phase through the floor thanks to blood blossoms under the floor boards "terrific a well prepared moron" Danny grumbled maybe he could use his phone call someone for help "and there's no reception"
Double terrific what else could go wrong with today
It felt like forever before Jacob came back the good news was he didn't come back with anyone from the Guys in White the maybe bad news he came with a woman who going off Vees reaction was Luzs mom
"Woowww is this one of those escape rooms" she asked looking around at all of Jacobs creepy witch hunter stuff obviously thinking it was fake "sorry I don't want to break the illusion"
"Wow your government training is impressive if I didn't know better I'd believe you were just an ordinary veterinarian" Jacob complimented "but anyways the reason you're here behold the demon monster and the Prince of Mars"
"Help please he's crazy"
Jacob kicked the cage making Vee jump "don't try to trick her with your Martian lies" he shouted at them "sorry I would have gagged them but the Prince is too dangerous to handle while he's conscious you'll want to tranq him before you begin the live dissection the snake demon is much weaker"
Did he say dissection Danny thought just his luck came to visit his girlfriend ended up dealing with a Guy in White wannabe
What Jacob didn't notice was how disturbed Luzs mom was looking more and more uncomfortable Danny guessed Luz was on her phone talking to her
Vee looked cautious as she knelt in front of the cage while Jacob left to put on some armor he got from the renaissance fair "hello who knew I had such a brave girl living under my roof" she said reassuringly before looking to Danny "today probably hasn't gone how you were expecting was it"
"And yet this still isn't the worst interaction I've had with a girls parent" Danny quipped "I'm Danny"
"You can call me Camilla" she said as Jacob came back dressed in a dorky set of armor
"This is still more embarrassing than losing to the Box Ghost" Danny muttered not being able to look at Jacob in the stupid set of armor
"We should knock him out Danny Phantom might have a load of information being the Martian invasions top officer but he's too much of a flight risk so I say we just dissect him" he declared pulling out a knife
Okay this guy was a serious pyscho 'and I can't use my ghost powers with all the blood blossoms in the room'
"Stop" Camilla shouted "the uh president called and uh oh I'm not good at this" she said pulling out a sandal knocking the knife out of his hand and knocking Jacob to the ground
"I'm letting those innocent children out of that cage and you won't be bothering anyone ever again or I'll be happy to tell the police how you've abducted two teenagers and put cameras on private property"
"You can't do this to me we had a verbal agreement I'm the good guy here" Jacob protested
"Yeah a lot of bad guys think that" Camilla said holding the sandal above her head swinging it down on Jacobs head
A sight that was totally worth being locked in a cage in Dannys opinion
After Camilla let them out of the cage hauled a beat up Jacob into and liberated the rest of Jacobs supply of Hexes holdem cards Danny had made a call to Kara she was probably the only super person Danny knew who could make sure Jacob was thrown behind bars without much actual evidence
Danny smiled knowing Jacob wasn't going to bother anyone for a long long time
Now standing in the rain he looked across from Luz who shined golden in the headlights of her moms car made of hundreds of drops of rain "so today probably didn't go like you were expecting"
"Not really" Danny answered "but all in all it was a pretty good day"
"So Danny it's probably going to be a bit before we figure out a working portal and there's whatever Belos is planning it might be a minute before we see each other face to face"
"I can wait" Danny promised watching as she smiled at him "you're not getting rid of me that Noceda next time we see each other we'll go on a date"
Luz smiled prettily at him "I can't wait"
Danny smiled wishing he could hug her or kiss her but he couldn't and not just because her mom was right there watching them Danny stepped away rings passing over his body as he went ghost smiling to Camilla and Vee before he flew off
