Jayne was at the PCPD, finishing up. She had plans to go to Kelly's to spend some time with JJ and Rose. She also wanted to thank them.
Chase walked up, seeing how happy she seemed to be. He was happy for her but disappointed he wasn't the reason. "Hey, could you do me a favor?"
Jayne looked over at him. "If I can."
"Will you tell JJ that I'm sorry about his dad, If he needs a friendly ear, I know what he is going through." Chase was still coming to terms with losing his dad, Finn's downfall, and being Violet's guardian now.
"That's really kind and thoughtful of you. I will. I actually wanted to tell you something." Jayne thought it was only fair she be the one to tell him about her and JJ.
"I know about you and JJ being closer. I stopped my mom from running an article on the two of you." Chase wouldn't let his mom bully Jayne.
Jayne gave Chase a hug without thinking. "Thank you. That means a lot to me."
Chase hugged her back. "You're my friend. We look out for our friends. I gotta get back to work."
Jayne nodded. "See you soon."
Kelly's
JJ and Rose were sitting at a table, Robert and Holly were also there having lunch.
"What do you think your dad would think of that picture of him over there?" Rose asked JJ.
"He would tell you to take it down, but since he's gone, he would want us to do what's best for us coping." JJ told his grandma before looking at his phone.
"Important?" Rose asked.
"Could be." JJ gave a simple reply which Rose was used to at this point.
Holly touched Robert's cheek. "You were wonderful with Grant. He's very lucky to have a friend like you."
Robert smiled up at Holly. "I'm very lucky to have a wife like you." He kissed her hand. "Do you want to dance?" He got up and reached for her hand.
"Always." Holly replied. The music in Kelly's was quiet, but it could have been off, and the two of them would have danced.
Rose looked over at her friends and smiled. "That's so sweet."
JJ nodded as he looked at Rose. "Gran, Jayne and I are back together."
Rose's smile grew. "Oh! That's wonderful! She's really great."
"She is, we are different than who we were before. I think it's going to work." JJ told Rose as Jayne walked in.
Rose stood up to give Jayne a hug. "Why don't you keep our guy company while I work?"
Jayne hugged Rose back and nodded, sitting down. "I haven't told my dad the news yet, after you're going to get a hello kiss."
JJ couldn't help but give a devilish grin. "I've been waiting all day."
Robert and Holly walked over. "Do you mind if we join you?" Robert asked.
"Not at all. Three of my favorite people." Jayne grinned as Robert and Holly sat down.
"Dad, I needed to tell you something." Jayne started. "JJ and I are seeing each other."
Robert already knew it but knew Jayne wanted to tell him. "I'm happy for you, luv." He looked at JJ and shook his hand. "You too. Our daughter is wonderful but I think you know that. You've been fortunate enough to know her longer."
"Yes, and let me tell you, I've never seen her as happy as she is until I ran into Jayne Scorpio." JJ looked over at Jayne. He knew how important her parents were to her.
Jayne held up her hand. "Are you trying to make me emotional?"
Holly smiled. "Why don't we toast?"
Jayne nodded. "I would like that."
"Can I have a word with you, JJ?" Robert asked as he stood up.
"Of course." JJ and Robert walked over to the side.
"Look, I know you knew Jayne before either of us did, I know she is an adult, but I still want to protect her. I think even more so since I didn't get to while she was growing up." Robert told JJ, he wanted to make sure Jayne wouldn't get hurt, or at least not badly.
"Jayne told me the story. It doesn't seem like you and Holly could have done anything differently. I do promise I will do my best to never hurt her. She was always very important to me and still is." JJ told Robert, hoping to reassure him.
"I know your lifestyle makes it hard to have someone." Robert remembered those WSB days.
"Her and my gran are both very important to me, I love my job, and I am good at it, but it will always come after them." JJ told Robert.
Robert gave him a pat on the back. "It's good to hear that. You know I really do see a lot of Joe in you."
"Best compliment I can get." JJ replied as the two went back over to join the ladies.
