Chapter Eleven - The Final Act

The latest maid opened the door at the Gilmore residence.

"Who is it, Avril?" asked Emily.

Before Avril could speak, an angry Mrs Kim pushed her way in. "I think you know who it is. Mrs Gilmore."

"Mrs Kim. What a surprise," said Emily. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"I've come for the truth."

"The truth?" echoed Emily. "Whatever could you mean?"

"I eliminate all other suspects, now left with just you."

"I fail to understand-"

"You understand! You mean lady! You broke but not buy. You don't appreciate value of money."

"I'm sure you're mistaken," said Emily calmly.

"Am I, Mrs Gilmore? Am I really? You still sting from the kimchi incident."

"Maybe I do, but that's no reason for me to indulge in petty vandalism. Surely you can't think that lowly of me."

Mrs Kim wasn't perturbed. "Why else would you get Lorelai to send me on a wild goose chase around the world?"

Emily laughed. "That's just Lorelai for you. "

"She still twice the woman you be," said Mrs Kim. "And now I'm here for justice."

"This is ridiculous. When did this incident happen?" asked Emily.

"Last Thursday evening," said Mrs Kim. "As you well know."

"Well, that's clearly impossible," Emily said. "Richard and I were away visiting Rory in Yale that day."

Mrs Kim fell silent, then turned towards the maid. "Avril, is that correct?"

"Beats me," replied the maid, "I only started yesterday."

"Richard's out at the moment," said Emily, "but you can corroborate my story with Rory."

Mrs Kim looked at Emily, and bowed. "Forgive me, Mrs Gilmore. I jump to conclusion. I sorry."

"That's alright. You can't be right all the time."

"Have been till now," said Mrs Kim, and shambled away a broken woman.

As she went out, Emily almost felt sorry for her.

"Well, I guess that's the end of it," she said to the maid. "What an anti-climax."
