"All right, I have Chinese coming for us, I made certain to get all our favourites!" Penelope sang out as she welcomed her friends into her apartment. It had been a few weeks since they'd all managed to find time to get together, and she was eagerly looking forward to having this evening with them. They'd had a good class, and Moira had seemed pleased with the progress they were all making, which had also put her in an ebullient mood.
"Oh, I hope you added a few extra egg rolls, Garcia," JJ said as she dropped her bag on the floor before heading over to the sofa and taking a seat on the far end of it. "I have been craving them so strongly in the last few weeks!"
Penelope swallowed her smile, knowing that that was probably a symptom of her pregnancy. Or, what she thought was JJ's pregnancy. Until she heard it from JJ's lips, she could only assume that she was in the family way. "I think that I ordered eighteen? Three for each of us, and a few extra."
"Perfect!" JJ said, a happy grin on her face. Erin and Alex chuckled as they dropped their bags next to JJ's and took the two remaining places on the sofa. Jessica rubbed her shoulder lightly as she slipped past Penelope and took a seat in the plush chair, setting her bag next to her. "I brought a movie that Emily recommended to me. Is that okay?"
"Of course! Pop it into the DVD player while I get us drinks. Everyone okay with water? I also have apple juice, or can make tea or coffee."
They all asked for water, and Penelope nodded as she slipped into the kitchen and quickly filled a bowl with ice and a pitcher with water before placing those items and five glasses onto a tray and brought them into the living room, passing them around to the women before plopping down into the last free chair and focusing on the television.
About thirty minutes into the movie, there was a knock at the door, and she hurriedly got up to get their food, handing the delivery driver a generous tip before closing the door and bringing the food over to the coffee table. Everyone managed to find what was theirs, and she settled back into her chair as she went to focus on the movie once more. Something caught her attention from the corner of her eye, and she carefully turned her head to look over at the sofa.
Erin was looking at the food container in her lap, chopsticks clenched in her fist, staring at it with a faint look of revulsion. As Penelope continued to watch, the older woman turned a little green as she set the container back onto the table. "Are you okay, Erin?" Jessica asked before popping a piece of broccoli into her mouth.
"Fine, I think. My stomach just suddenly lurched at the smell of my beef and broccoli. I wonder if I'm coming down with something?" she mused as she picked up her water and sipped at it, obviously trying to settle her stomach. Penelope felt a stab of sympathy and gave Erin a pained smile. "Oh, don't worry, Penny! Everything will be fine, I just need a few moments to get control again, and then I can eat."
She nodded, feeling like that wasn't the total truth, but not wanting to call Erin out on it. The older woman gave her a small smile before taking another sip of water and settling back in the sofa. Penelope split her attention between the movie and Erin, watching as she turned progressively paler as the minutes ticked by, and how she never touched her food, only continued sipping at her water. And then, twenty minutes later, Erin popped to her feet and made a beeline for the bathroom. Through the closed door, Penelope could hear Erin throwing up, and she let out a quiet sigh as she got to her feet, setting her food on the coffee table before following after the woman.
"She'll be all right," Blake said, and Penelope shrugged.
"Erin also doesn't know where I keep my washcloths, and she'll want to clean her face after that. Don't worry, I won't bother her. Too much." She gave the older woman a small wink before slipping behind the bathroom door and stepping over Erin to open the small cupboard where she kept her linens. After pulling out a soft cloth, she ran the tap until the water was lukewarm before wetting the cloth and kneeling beside Erin, holding it out. "Blake doesn't want me to bother you, but sometime you need someone to take care of you?"
Erin nodded as she accepted the cloth, wiping delicately at her face. "Thank you, Penny. I've been feeling a little rundown for the last week, maybe the yoga upset my stomach more because of that. I didn't embarrass myself, did I?"
"No. We've all had our bodies fail on us before. But let me make certain your face is completely clean." Erin looked up at her, and Penelope smiled as she took the washcloth from Erin's hand and wiped away the last traces of sickness from her cheeks. "Now, if you think the food will still bother you, I do have ice cream for us."
"Ice cream sounds good right now, if you don't mind."
"I wouldn't have mentioned it if I did. Come on, let's go finish the movie with the others."
Erin nodded as she took hold of her hand and rose to her feet. Penelope felt her smile soften at the trusting touch, and she tightened her grip on Erin's hand as she brought her back out to the others. After Erin had taken her place next to Blake once more, Penelope went into the kitchen and opened the freezer, pulling out the carton of mint chocolate chip and making a small bowl for Erin.
Returning to the living room, she handed the bowl over before settling back in her chair and pulling out her personal phone. Opening up her calendar, she made a note on today's date with her supposition that Erin was now pregnant, as well as JJ, which put them within a month of each other. And with two potential babies to spoil, Penelope knew that she could stop putting the folic acid into their smoothies, even if she still made certain to add it to hers, along with Jessica and Blake. Just on the off chance that she was wrong about the other two, she needed the assurance that there would possibly be a baby in their future.
"All right, nose out of that phone, Garcia! We're supposed to be present with each other for these get togethers, and you cannot do that if you're paying more attention to a screen than to us!"
She glanced up at JJ, and shrugged sheepishly before saving the information and shutting the phone off, slipping it back into her bra before picking up her food and starting to eat once more, a sense of peace settling over her mind at the notion of her plan really starting to come to fruition. And no matter what happened from this point on, she would have at least one little one to spoil in the next thirty eight weeks.
