I hope my readers enjoy this last chapter. I have plans to write a sequel after season two of Chaos Theory airs. Until then, please enjoy this chapter. P.S. This entire chapter takes place in the present.
The camp family gawked at Cabrera who had a large grin on his face. Instinctively, they drew closer to one another. Ben tightened his hold on Bumpy's egg.
"I have to admit, I admire how persistent you five are. Hell, even your Ankylosaurus friend fought to avoid being caught. Living on Nublar for a year must have toughened the lot of you up.
The group's stares changed into glares. Sammy and Yaz were reaching for their crossbows. Kenji was reaching for his last bola.
Cabrera lunged forward with the prod, narrowly missing Darius who had leaned back. "Don't even think about using those weapons. If you reach for them again, I will electrocute one of you."
Everyone stopped reaching for their weapons. Darius took a bold step forward. "How could you do this? How can a person like you exist in the DPW?"
Cabrera laughed. "You really think I'm the only DPW member who does this? There are hundreds of DPW members who sell dinosaurs for money. I just happen to be in control of the largest trafficking ring in the United States."
Kenji gripped the back of Darius's shirt to keep him from attacking Cabrera. "Are you the one who ordered the Allosaurus to kill Brooklynn?" he asked coldly.
"I didn't want to hurt her, but she was getting too close to my operation. I thought that the Allosaurus would scare her enough to back off. I never envisioned for the Allosaurus to actually kill her."
Sammy quickly strolled forward signaling Ben to take care of Bumpy. "Do you think we're going to believe that hogwash? You knew that a hungry predator would go after any prey it could find."
While the others kept Cabrera's attention, Ben placed the egg between Bumpy's front legs. He carefully pulled out her pendant and opened it. "I need you to pay close attention to what I'm saying, okay Bumper Car?"
Bumpy nodded weakly and tilted her head to hear better.
"Dr. Turner lives in the state of Montana, ten miles outside a town known as Terry in Prairie County. She can protect you and your egg. Make sure, she doesn't tamper with the pendent."
Bumpy nodded as she opened her mouth and Ben fed her the gel tablet. "You should change faster this time. Stay in the container until the transformation is over. Then take your egg and get out of here."
She nodded as she moved her egg protectively under her chin. She watched as Ben laid her pendant next to her. Pulling out his sling, he rejoined the others. Bumpy hoped he would be okay.
Ben rejoined the group as Yaz was confirming they could leave him alone. Provide that he let them and Bumpy go. The man had just asked why he should do that.
"Because I'll rejoin the DPW. You can keep an eye on me and through me, my friends. As long as our camp family is safe, that's what matters to us."
"I've got a buyer already lined up for your friend. What can you give me to compensate for the loss of profit if I let her go?"
"What about a bag full of ten million dollars?" Kenji suggested.
"Or a ticket to reclaim a five thousand dollar bracelet?" Sammy added holding out the pawnshop ticket. It had miraculously survived after being inside a sinking van.
"Tempting, but I see you don't have those items with you. It would be a different story if you did. Now, step away from the dinosaur," Cabrera said as he turned the prod to maximum power.
Ben reacted at that moment. Using the single stone he had, he pulled back the sling and fired the payload. It struck Cabrera's hand, causing him to release the prod.
Darius ran forward and tackled the man to the ground. He held him in place as Yaz used all but two bolts to pin him to the ground. Sammy then kicked him in the head to knock the man out.
Grabbing the prod, the kids raced away knowing that Cabrera would wake up quickly. As they neared the entrance, the group stopped to catch their breath.
Panting hard, Darius asked Ben how long until Bumpy's transformation was complete. "She should be done in about ten to fifteen minutes depending on how well her body can tolerate it."
Darius nodded and began heading for one of the doors. "We can get in touch with someone higher up on the food chain and shut this whole ring down. We should start with my old boss Ronnie."
"Darius, how do we know that Ronnie isn't in on this? You heard what Cabrera said. We don't know how many members of the DPW are on the take."
Darius frowned as he let Yaz's words sink in. "I know it's a risk but I can't think of anyone else who might be able to help us. We should at least meet up with her."
He tried rotating the door handle but it was locked. Yaz and Kenji tried the other doors with the same luck. All the doors shouldn't be locked unless someone was planning a trap.
"We've got to hide now!" Darius hissed. As the truck door started to lift, the group scrambled to hide behind some of the supply boxes near the door. As soon as they were hidden the door finished rising.
In stepped the raptor trainer. Her eyes were empty of any emotion. She tilted her head as Cabrera stepped into the light.
"What the hell are you doing here? I told you to stay away from me. Our business concluded long ago!"
She said nothing, just continued to stare at him with her empty eyes. Cabrera yelled at her again to leave. Instead, she turned her head to the side as the worker named Jensen appeared.
He was carrying a heavy-duty suitcase and was smirking. Cabrera instructed the man to escort the trainer out. Instead, Jensen cackled loudly.
"I can't believe you deluded yourself into believing you're running this operation," Jensen informed Cabrera coldly. "You're nothing but small fish in a big pond."
He nodded at the trainer who blew her whistle. Out of the early morning fog, Panthera, Tiger, and Ghost appeared at their trainer's side. All three still had minor issues.
Ghost's tail cast looked new. The burns on Panthera's chest were no longer inflamed but the skin hadn't started to regrow yet. Tiger's jaw seemed to be still bothering him as he winced in pain after opening it.
Cabrera's eyes widened upon seeing the animals. "What are those things?" he asked hysterically.
"They're terrifying, aren't they? The boss's personal hit squad. They're fantastic at doing their job, despite the occasional injury," Jenson stated as he side-eyed the trainer.
She whispered something and he headed outside with the suitcase. "Hope you enjoyed your last meal, Cabera. Because the Atrociraptors love having flavor added to their meal."
Realizing what Jenson meant, Cabrera started running towards the other end of the warehouse. The trainer said nothing as she blew her whistle. The pack ran after their prey with their mouths watering.
Cabrera was trying to get back to Bumpy's container. It was the only one he knew was open and where he was less likely to be attacked. She would also make a good meal for the Atrociraptors, and they might leave him alone.
Adrenaline flooded his system as he weaved his way through the maze. He could hear the creatures catching up with him. Finally, he saw the top of Bumpy's container.
He poured every ounce of energy into getting there. He was so focused on getting inside, that he didn't notice until he crashed into the door that it was locked once more. "NOOOOOOOOO!"
He tried to pry the door open, but something on the other side of the door was keeping it closed. He tugged on them, but the doors refused to open.
That's when Panthera found him. She called out to the others. In a panic, Cabrera tried to rush past her but a snap of her jaws forced him back against the wall.
Ghost and Tiger jumped on top of the nearby containers. The trainer appeared at the end of the row. She raised her whistle to blow.
"NO! Wait, please! I can tell you…"
The whistle blew and the entire pack was on him in seconds. His screams echoed across the warehouse. The young adults cringed as they listened to them.
After a few minutes, the trainer blew the whistle again. She and the pack came back into view a few minutes later. They were on the way to leave when Tiger stopped.
He sniffed the air and made a small chirp. The trainer turned around and knelt. She looked him in the eyes and it was as if she was reading his mind.
Straightening up, she scanned the warehouse before locking onto the boxes. The young adults tensed up as they prepared to run. The whistle blew and they took off before the raptors could start searching for them.
Ghost found Darius, Ben, and Sammy first. She chuffed loudly as the rest of the pack came after them. Sammy stopped long enough to fire a few bolts at the white raptor.
Ghost managed to avoid being impaled, but all the bolts grazed her. A trickle of blood started to dribble down her neck. She launched herself at Sammy, who rolled out of the way and followed her friends.
Tiger was doing his best to get a hold of Kenji and Yaz as they ran. Kenji raced up the ladder and pulled Yaz up. Tiger jumped up with his jaws wide open to bite her foot off.
Yaz twisted enough to fire her last two bolts. One hit the sore gum line and the other bounced off the teeth. Tiger howled in pain, excessively angry that he was in agony again.
The trainer watched as the young adults started running down the catwalk towards an open window. She blew the whistle again and the five young adults found themselves cornered from three sides.
Ben held out the shock prod while the others reached for their pendants. The raptors hissed, ready to get revenge for all the injuries they suffered from the five humans. The trainer raised the whistle to her lips.
Suddenly, the entire building started shaking. On the ground, the trainer stumbled as the catwalk started to cave in. That's when a huge semi-truck burst through the docking bay doors and smashed into the closest container aisle.
The catwalk completely gave way. Crates and containers fell to the floor. Meanwhile, all the humans and raptors became buried under the debris that had fallen.
The truck backed out of the warehouse as the camp family did a sound off. They were all alive. The driver exited the truck and came rushing into the warehouse.
"Are you guys, okay? I saw the woman with her raptors and reasoned you needed some help. I did tell you I was a decent driver."
"Make that a crazy driver," Darius said as he was helped off the floor. He glanced to the side and saw the trainer unconscious. He signaled for the guys to come help him.
Kenji used his last bolo to tie the lady up. Ben tied his sling with Darius's to make a temporary blindfold for the woman. They also yanked her whistle off so she couldn't control the raptors.
"Guys, we need to find a phone and call the authorities to come arrest everyone," Yaz reminded the others.
"We should also go check on Bumpy. She might be ready to travel now," Sammy added.
Before the group could do either, one of the containers burst open. A very hungry Suchomimus roared as he dashed towards them. They ran outside as more containers opened.
A Carnotaurus, a Parasaurolophus, and Pach, along with a rare Unaysaurus broke free. They hustled outside the warehouse and started trying to either eat or escape the humans on the docks.
Meanwhile, the group had rolled under the truck Mateo had crashed. The Suchomimus gave up trying to eat them and went after the dock workers. One of them was immediately devoured.
The humans were about to back out of their hiding spot when the raptor pack dashed outside. Ghost gave Panthera and Tiger orders as they headed to the opposite sides of the dock. Ghost herself raced towards the nearest pile of crates to start looking for their prey.
"Those raptors are still after us? There is no way we can fight them off and avoid the other dinosaurs by ourselves," Ben hissed.
Darius nodded and looked at the others. They all had the same look on their faces. Darius turned to Mateo who was very frightened.
Coming to a decision, Darius nodded his head. "Mateo, we are about to reveal a big secret we kept from the public. You have to promise you'll never reveal what you're about to see."
"I swear on my daughter's life, whatever you show me, I won't speak a word of it."
Accepting his promise, the five pinched their fingers on the top part of the pendants. There was a soft beep and the front of the pendents opened. Lined up inside were twelve pill capsules. The ones in the front part were colored, but the ones on the back part were white.
Each young adult put a colored pill in their mouth and dry swallowed. An explosion occurred, drawing Mateo's concentration towards the docks. Big Eatie was free and roaring in fury.
"We've got to move, people!" Mateo shouted as he turned his attention back to the young adults. His jaw dropped and he wiped his glasses to make sure what he was seeing was real. The young adults were now half dinosaur!
They looked almost identical to what they had been turned into six years ago. There were a few differences. The scales covered more of their body and their features had grown.
There were also a few additions. Sammy had a bigger belly and her nails were thicker. Ben's arms were longer and more muscular than before.
Kenji's legs were now as robust as his arms along with his frill being taller. Yaz's feathers were thicker and her teeth a bit sharper. Darius's changes included his dinosaur feet and both parts of his mouth now were parrot like.
Before Mateo could say anything, the three raptors appeared and growled softly. They were unsure about the change in their prey's smell, but it wasn't important enough. They were ready to spring into action.
That's when Big Eatie showed up and bellowed at the raptors. They scattered in different directions as Big Eatie turned her attention to the Suchomimus. Ordering Mateo to get to safety, the camp family made their move.
Sammy headed in the direction of the herbivores. The Carnotaurus was fighting the Parasaurolophus. The herbivore kept trying to back away but the predator kept lunging forward as it attempted to get a hold of the other dinosaur's neck.
Sammy wasn't the fastest, but she used her massive belly to do a belly flop onto the Carnotaurus's left foot. Surprised by the unexpected weight, the creature started to falter.
Sammy then slammed her tail into the Achille's tendon on the right foot. The carnivore hissed in pain. She did another tail strike bruising the area again.
She jumped back as the Carnotaurus's tried to look between its legs to find the problem. As it leaned down, the Parasaurolophus took advantage of the situation. Using its head crest, it bulldozed the animal over so the beast landed on its back.
The Carnotaurus gnashed its teeth as it flailed around. Sammy started running away as the beast got back to its feet. Sammy increased her speed as the predator made another lunge at her.
Luckily, Pach was nearby and came to the rescue. He used his weight to body-check the Carnotaurus into a pile of shipping containers. Thankfully, the containers were empty so there weren't any more dinosaurs on the loose.
"Thanks, you should get out of here before the authorities show up. Good luck locating a new home!" she called out to Pach. He grunted and then took off.
Yaz had managed to get away from Tiger only to have the Suchomimus hot on her tail. She was running flat out as she headed towards some packing crates. Using her speed to increase her momentum, Yaz jumped over the crates with ease.
Standing in front of her was the Unaysaurus. It appeared to be frightened and lost. It scrutinized her and whined.
"Shush, we need to be quiet," she whispered. She hunkered down and made her way past a few containers. The Unaysaurus followed her hoping she knew a way out.
Yaz made her way between the crates as she headed closer to the container stacks. She paused when she reached the last stack of crates. Deep in her bones, she knew the Suchomimus was waiting for her to step out.
She turned behind her and softly told the Unaysaurus to stay down. Yaz moved to climb up the crates. She would surprise the predator from above.
She managed to get up two feet when she got some unexpected help. Similar to a giraffe, the Unaysaurus stuck its neck up while leaning against the crates. Yaz then used the long neck to quickly get to the top of the crate pile.
Looking down, she saw the creature waiting to ambush her. She steadied herself and then leaped on top of the predator. The Suchomimus was not expecting that as it rotated its head to bite her.
Using her claws, Yaz slashed the creature's jawline. As it raised its head a little in pain, she tore part of the neck leaving a single line of blood. She was then bucked off and got to her feet quickly.
She began to slink away as the Suchomimus started to give chase. Bursting into a full blown sprint she started heading back towards the docks. Yaz started to chirp as she ran into the open.
She heard a responding chirp and dashed to the left. She was heading towards one of the trucks. Another chirp sounded as she ducked right as the predator smacked into Big Eatie.
Yaz stood next to the truck trailer and let out a series of chirps. The Unaysaurus came out of hiding and looked at Yaz. She pointed to the gates and the creature nodded.
It raced away. A few minutes later, a bleeding Suchomimus ambled towards the exit. It clearly didn't want to fight with Big Eatie again.
Kenji and Ben were fighting off Panthera making sure she couldn't attack Mateo. Tiger had been helping but was currently trying to attack Big Eatie to keep her from interfering with his task. Darius was being chased by Ghost, who was having difficulty keeping up.
Kenji smacked his tail and stomped his feet to intimate Panthera. Ben did the same thing. Panthera took a tiny step back before leaping at the boys.
Kenji caught her on his frill and reared his head back causing her to tumble to the ground. She snapped at his feet Kenji had already moved. She got up and lunged at him.
He headbutted the raptor away. Panthera hissed as her right arm was punctured by one of the horns. This time when she lunged at him, she managed to sink her teeth into his robust shoulder.
Kenji cried out in pain as the raptor tried to dig her teeth further in. Ben rescued him by driving one of his thumb spikes into Panthera's eyes. She let him go and called for help.
Tiger came to aid her with Big Eatie on his tail. The boys and Mateo scattered as the T-rex snapped at everyone. Panthera and Tiger were snapping at the T-Rex's legs.
Big Eatie used her tail to send Tiger flying into the side of a truck. Shaking the hit off he saw Yaz and Sammy hurrying to help the others. Changing directives, he went after them to finish the mission.
Darius was zigzagging across the docks with Ghost right behind him. He knew she was catching up so he headed in the direction of Big Eatie and Panthera's fight.
As he predicted, the alpha ran past him to aid her pack member. Darius moved closer to the warehouse and made some observations. What he saw was troubling.
Big Eatie had managed to get Panthera off her back while Ghost nipped at the dinosaur's heels. Meanwhile, Tiger was pushing the rest of his friends into a tight corner where they couldn't move or escape.
That's when Big Eatie knocked one of the huge forklifts into the containers. The one exit the others had was now blocked. Ghost suddenly appeared next to Tiger as Panthera drew Big Eatie's attention.
The raptors were using Big Eatie as a living barrier to prevent his friends from climbing over the forklift to escape. If they did that, they would be noticed instantly and be attacked. Ghost and Tiger were getting closer, giving his friends no chance to move about.
We require another dinosaur to fight against the red female Darius thought. If two big predators attacked the lone raptor, she would call for help to avoid being eaten. That would give the others time to move somewhere safer.
He dashed back into the warehouse, snatching the discarded shock prod and stopping in front of One-Eye's container. He turned the prod on and opened the door. One-Eye took a cautious step out.
He couldn't really get a good look at Darius. But his sense of smell told him something was different about the human. That's when he noticed the light. Light equaled food!
Darius started running outside as he carried the shock prod. He glanced over his shoulder to see One-Eye was following him. Facing forward, he started to smack his beaked lips together, to help One-Eye follow him better.
When he got close enough, he hurled the shock prod at Big Eatie and dove out of the way. The prod bounced off Big Eatie's neck and landed in front of Panthera. One-Eye bumped Big Eatie out of the way as he tried to catch Panthera.
Panthera jumped back while calling for her pack for help. Ghost and Tiger abandoned their mission to help their pack mate. Darius clicked his beaked lips loudly to let the others know where he was.
With the dinosaurs occupied, the rest of the group plus Mateo, made it over to the dock crane and hid next to it.
Big Eatie had enough of the other predators trying to take her down. She grabbed Panthera by her tail and hurled her into the side of a massive container. She spun around and sent Tiger flying into a semi-trailer.
She kicked Ghost into a stack of crates. She then proceeded to pick up the Allosaurs with her teeth. She bit down sufficiently to draw blood, but not to kill. She slammed One-Eye into the ground and placed her foot on top of him.
She let out a loud bellow right next to One-Eye's face. He coiled up a tiny bit to look smaller. Big Eatie roared at him one more time before she released him.
One-Eye then ran away not wanting to press his luck any more than he already had. Big Eatie glanced in the direction of the young adults. The half-dinosaur humans tensed up.
Big Eatie made a chuffing sound and then started trotting towards the gate. More fog had rolled in and she disappeared without a trace. The others let out a sigh of relief.
That's when they heard Jenson on the other side of the crane. "There's no more time to get the rest of the cargo. Take these eggs to the Broker or heads will roll!" Jenson shrieked at one of the sailors.
The others looked at one another. Who was the Broker? Was it them who put the hit out on them?
Jenson was trying to call his boss and didn't notice One-Eye coming up behind him. The human screamed as he was swallowed whole by the Allosaurus he had mocked. With a full stomach, One-Eye finally left the shipyard.
The others were about to come out of hiding when Darius snapped his beaked lips again. Somehow, the raptor trainer had freed herself. She aimed a death glare at the transformed young adults.
Without her whistle, she did the best she could to match the same tone and pitch naturally. The three Atrociraptors appeared as they weakly limped towards her. The fight had taken most of their energy out of them.
The sounds of several sirens could be heard. The trainer looked back towards the road. In the distance, she could see several police and government vehicles on their way.
Glancing down at her Atrociraptors once more, she whistled a different tune. The raptors started retreating while the trainer gave the camp family one last glare. They knew this wasn't the last time they would see her.
As soon as she was gone, everyone let out a sigh. Opening their pendants, they swallowed the cure. Mateo closed his eyes and covered his ears not wanting to see the transformation back to normal humans.
Five minutes later, Kenji told him he could open his eyes. The camp family was normal once more except for a few tears in their clothes or being barefoot.
"Are the five of you, okay?" Mateo asked cautiously.
"Yeah, it's just been six years since we transformed. So, were all a bit shaky. No big deal," Kenji replied.
Darius tapped his brother's shoulder. Kenji looked at him with a curious glance. He correctly guessed what Darius wanted to say.
"Kenji, I didn't get a chance to tell you before why I wasn't with Brooklynn. She knew of my feelings for her but she didn't reciprocate them," Darius explained as the others gasped.
"She let me down gently but I was overly embarrassed by the fool I made of myself to her. I couldn't face her and that's why I didn't show up that night. I've been blaming myself for being so subconscious about myself that I let it get in the way of being there for my friend."
He looked at the others and said that included them. "I understand now that there was nothing I could have done even if I was there. I also know I can't keep hiding away from my camp family when we're in trouble."
They all glanced at the ship, which was preparing to depart soon. "I don't know about any of you but I won't feel safe until we find the Broker and put them behind bars."
"I agree with Darius. None of our homes are safe besides Kenji's. But there is no way that old camper trailer is going to be livable for five people and a dinosaur," Sammy pointed out.
Kenji muttered something under his breath but didn't argue. "If you're going on that boat, then all of us are getting on that boat."
"We owed it to Brooklynn to finish what she started. To get her and the dinosaurs justice for the horrors that have been done to them," Yaz remarked.
"If we're doing that then Bumpy needs a safe place to take care of her egg," Ben said. He turned to look at Mateo who was still standing there watching them.
Ben took off his jacket and gave it to him. "There's a container at the end of the fifth row in the northwest corner of the warehouse. It's marked, as deceased dinosaur number seven."
"You'll find inside a half-human/half-dinosaur teenage girl holding an egg. Call her Bushra Libertad and say you're a friend of her daddy Ben. She'll give you an address to a safe place where you can drop her off. Make sure she doesn't misplace her pendant."
"There's a dinosaur with the same ability as you?" Mateo gasped. He rubbed his hands together and promised. "I'll hide her in my car and drive her to the address after I help the authorities with the dinosaurs. Don't worry, she's in good hands."
The others nodded and then quickly made their way onto the ship. Mateo watched them hide in one of the containers as the ship cast off. As the boat sailed away, he wished them luck.
Going back inside the warehouse he found the container Ben told him about. The doors were still shut so he knocked. "Um, Bushra Libertad, I'm a friend of your daddy Ben. I'm supposed to drive you to a safe place to hide."
He heard the sound of something being removed from the doors. They swung away revealing a naked seventeen-year-old girl holding a speckled egg. Her hair went down to her butt and her bust was big.
Mateo turned his head away and handed her Ben's jacket. The girl slipped the coat on before placing her pendant around her neck. Clutching the egg tightly she said, "I'm ready to go."
"A dinosaur turned into a teenager who can talk. When will the world stop surprising me?" Mateo inquired out loud. Offering his arm, he helped "Bushra" out of the warehouse and to his car.
Meanwhile, back in California, Ronnie had just received a message from the head of the DPW. All members were to report back to their regional headquarters for news concerning Dudley Cabrea. She looked at the article and a picture sent to her by her bosses and decided to forward it to a friend.
"I have something you need to see. I think your friends are doing their own investigation," she said into her phone.
A text message materialized on the phone screen. "Great to know. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out for them."
"Please, be careful out there. Dino Gal rolling out now."
In a secret location, the text sender typed a response. "Don't worry, I'm always careful. Except when I'm not but that won't happen again."
The person clicked the print button and picked up the piece of paper. The hand that picked it up wasn't human. Rather, it was bright pink with four dinosaur fingers on it.
Brooklynn stepped back after she pinned the article to her theory board. She stretched her dinosaur fingers again to help her get used to them. Looking up from her phone she stared at the picture of her friends.
"Be careful guys. I don't want to lose you for a second time," she whispered before leaving the room.
