Chapter 4: Oliver Jonas Queen AKA al Sah-him, Green Arrow

When I started this project, I KNEW people would not be happy with some of my choices. Oliver Queen is a fan favorite in BOTH the Arrowverse and the DCU. However, many fans like to bash him just as much. You likely will not like my version. I'm sorry.

I like PARTS of the Arrowverse!Oliver. I liked PARTS of the DCU!Oliver. In general, Oliver's basic history is the same. Rich. Lost. Found. Becomes vigilante. Uber liberal. That doesn't even account for the many flaws in his history and story in both the Arrowverse and DCU. This is how I tried to resolve these differences. Don't hate me.

ORIGIN:

Oliver Jonas Queen was born on 16 May 1992 to Robert Alan Queen and Moira Ann Dearden Queen. He was the first-born son in the wealthiest and most powerful family on the West coast. They are easily the wealthiest family in Starling. They are one of the wealthiest families in the US. Because of this, all members of the Queen Family are generally treated like royalty. This led to Oliver's life being constantly observed and commented on by random strangers. Oliver has no Aunts or Uncles. His father was an only child. His mother has a shadowy background. She met his father in college.

The Merlyns are close family friends. Malcolm Merlyn went to college with Robert. Moira introduced Malcolm to Rebecca. Both friends married around the same time. Their first-born sons were born within a few months of each other. The two boys were raised together. They became inseparable. Because of the media coverage, Oliver and Tommy could only be themselves with each other in private. They are raised as brothers and are best friends. While young, Oliver went by the nickname of Ollie. However, after the yacht sank, he preferred to go by Oliver.

In the spring of 2000, Rebecca Merlyn was murdered while leaving Angel's Rest Free Clinic in the Glades. Tommy's father disappeared after the funeral. He didn't even wait until the reading of the Will. Tommy is taken in by the Queens. Tommy was raised as Oliver's adoptive brother.

Oliver helped Tommy to come out of his shell after the loss of his mother and the abandonment of his father. When school started in the fall, Oliver met Laurel and she quickly became a part of their trio. Oliver was amazed to find someone his age who didn't care who he was or what family he was from. She just wanted to know him. The Queens were soon taking care of Laurel and her little sister Sara. Oliver's sister was born in Jan 2001. Oliver was determined to be the best big brother ever. He was enchanted by his little sister.

In 2006, Tommy's father finally returned home. Tommy was forced to move back into his family home, but Tommy refused to avoid his friends Oliver, Laurel, Sara, and baby Thea. He was livid with Malcolm and refused to have anything to do with the man. Oliver and Laurel supported him. They spent time either at Queen Manor or the Lance House.

In 2008, Oliver started to date Laurel. He was afraid of making a mistake with her and losing her friendship. They took their relationship slow.

In 2010, Oliver, Tommy, and Laurel graduated High School. Oliver had decent grades, but he had no focus. He coasted through classes with enough work done to pass. He was intelligent enough to pass without effort. He enrolled in Harvard because his parents expect it. However, Oliver couldn't focus while he was so far from his friends. He quickly dropped his attendance at Harvard because it was too far away from his friends. He enrolled in Starling City University to be closer to Laurel. Tommy moved to Starling City University to join them at the start of the next semester for exactly the same reasons. Oliver had been taking the basic required courses for any degree. He chose to pass all his classes with a B because Laurel wanted him to excel, not because refused to do better. He compromised with a B. He was just skating by with little to no interest.

Oliver and Laurel frequently hung out at Tommy's apartment near the University. Oliver still lived at home in the Queen Manor. Laurel also still lived at home with her parents. Tommy moved out of Merlyn Mansion as soon as he turned 18. Tommy's apartment was the only place they felt that they could be themselves with no expectations from their parents or the public. In 2010, after Laurel's 18th birthday, Oliver made love to Laurel for first time.

In 2012, Laurel had started to drop hints about them moving in together. Oliver was resistant to the idea. He loved Laurel, but he hated people telling him what to do. He fought against his parents' expectations his whole life. He may not know where he was going, but he automatically resented someone trying to guide his life.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:Oliver is devastatingly handsome. He is easily the most recognizable person when he is clean shaven or with just scruff. He drew looks because he is so painfully handsome (or beautiful). However, because he was so famous, he used his facial hair to disguise himself from the public. He liked the anonymity of the League with long, unkept hair and a full beard.

Ruya: This was his natural ability to sense the ley lines of the world. With training, Ruya could connect with the Nexus and Ley lines to gather information. He could communicate with spirits to assist him in tracking and hunting. He could easily see the auras of all living beings... even through walls.

Scars:Arrow exit wound (front right shoulder) [Yao Fei's arrow], Arrow entry wound (back right shoulder) [Yao Fei's arrow], Three Diagonal Slashes from upper right to lower left (chest) [Fyer's knife], Horizontal Slash across stomach, large (stomach) [Fyer's knife], 3" Vertical Slash, thick (Left side of chest) [Fyer's knife-entrance wound], 2" Vertical Slash, thick (Right side of back) [Fyer's knife-exit wound], Bullet wound (left upper arm) [Frank's shot], Bullet wound (right thigh, high outside) [Frank's shot], crude repair (lower right stomach) [shot by Amazo pirates],

Tattoos:Post-Gambit Only: Brand: Arrowhead (Upper Right on back) [given by LoA. Denotes acceptance of new life in the League], Outline of a Triangle (Upper Left on back) [given by LoA to denote bonding with Oliver and Tommy], Magic Runes (Left Abdomen) [given by Constantine. Allows holder to channel light magic to banish dark magic used against them],

BELIEFS RELIGIOUS: Christian (raised). Oliver is mainly non-religious. However, he was raised in a Christian belief system. He attended church services at the main holidays and was not forced to participate when he entered his teen years. However, he was raised to believe in right and wrong. He clearly understood when he was doing wrong, even if he had justifications. He also believed that it was the duty of those with wealth to serve the less fortunate. His mother was very active in various charity organizations. This reinforced his belief. His sheltered upbringing allowed him to believe the best in people until they proved otherwise.

Oliver strongly believed in choice. A person made the choices they had available. In many cases, this was choosing the 'least bad' option. He believed in expanding those choices for people placed in bad situations. This belief was reinforced during his League years. He was trained to see the auras of various people. He could immediately see if a person was evil or just was influenced by evil. He could help them return to balance and make better choices. The spirituality of the League resonated with him.

BELIEFS POLITICAL: Democrat (Strong). Oliver was still developing his own political views before the Gambit. He was raised in a conservative, wealthy family with business minded political leanings. However, his experiences during his League time allowed him to see the world from another perspective. Most of his new political views match the Democratic Party Platform. He strongly believed in supporting the environment and the poor. He had to live without any resources. He had to hunt and gather his own food. He knew intimately what it felt like to go hungry. He wanted to use his wealth to assist those people to make better choices.

HOBBY:

Airplanes: Oliver learned to fly while young. Oliver and his father would bond over airplanes. Oliver learned mostly to spend time with his dad outside of the company. Oliver liked to tinker with the mechanics of the aircraft.

Motorcycles: Oliver liked his freedom as felt on a motorcycle. He was not concerned about his safety. Motorcycles allowed this freedom. Judicious training ensured his safety as much as possible.

~AU~AU~AU~AU~AU~AU~

FAMILY:

RELATIONSHIP-FATHER: Robert Alan Queen: Oliver tried to connect with his father over things besides the Company. He would spend time with his father (even at the company) just to spend time with him. His father was the one to take him flying and introduce him to aircraft. However, he was frequently disappointed his father with his lack of focus and his apathy towards business.

RELATIONSHIP-MOTHER:Moira Ann Dearden Queen: Oliver loved his mother, but she was an absentee parent. She would dictate who or what she wanted from him and then leave him to obey her directives. When Oliver was younger, he trusted that his mother only gave him good directives. He learned that his mother could fix problems for him, like when he was in trouble or arrested. It was only when he was in his rebellious phase that Oliver started to understand that anything he told his mother, she would fix his actions to be more tolerable to her idea of how his life should be. Her perception of who her son was. Moira would always decide what was best for her children. Even if they disagreed with her.

RELATIONSHIP-SIBLINGS:

Athena 'Thea' Dearden Queen (half-sister): Oliver adores his little sister Athena. He was the one who gave her the nickname Thea. Because of his absentee mother and his father who was too busy to take the time, he would always drop everything to be with his sister. He convinced his friends to include his sister. Because of this, Thea adored her brother and his friends. She always felt included with Oliver and his friends. Despite the age difference.

Thomas 'Tommy' Arthur Merlyn (adopted): Tommy lived with the Queens after his mother died and his father left for six years. Oliver had adopted Tommy as his Brother-In-Life at that time. He did everything to comfort and include Tommy in everything. They became inseparable.

RELATIONSHIP-GRANDPARENTS:Elizabeth Emily Blackburn Queen (paternal grandmother),Charles Wyatt Queen (paternal grandfather). He never knew his maternal grandparents. Oliver's paternal grandparents passed away when he was very young. He inherited his grandfather's shares in the company along with several properties that were not listed in the Queen Estate or tied to Queen Consolidated. His Dearden grandmother was an unknown person in Metropolis who bore a child in Suicide Slums. His Dearden grandmother died while Moira was a teenager.

RELATIONSHIP-OTHER FAMILY:Oliver did not have any extended family on the Queen side of the family. No cousins or uncles or aunts. Because of this, Oliver created a Found Family with special people. Raisa became his adopted mother to replace Moira's absentee ways. Malcolm was his adopted uncle. Rebecca was his adopted aunt. Tommy his adopted brother. Sara and Laurel his adoptive sisters, until he started to date Laurel.

MOTIVATION:

Pre-Gambit: Oliver knew he was rich and very good looking. He was always confident and arrogant because of his social standing. He developed a bit of an entitlement complex because of this. He usually expected others to do what he told them to do or to forgive his behavior. He also presented a mask to the world because he was constantly under scrutiny by the media. Everything he did reflected back on his parents and family. He was known for his theatricality. Especially when he needed to put on a public face. He usually made grand gestures a part of his theatricality.

Post-Gambit: When the yacht sank, Oliver was traumatized by the sinking and the sight of his father's murder-suicide. He was forced to learn how to survive in pain and hardship immediately upon arrival at Lian Yu. He cherished his anonymity in the League. They cherished him for his skills and trained his Ruya ability. Not because of his birth family. He felt that his Ruya gave him insight into others who would use him for his family instead of who he was. He was more respectful to the invisible staff for their efforts on his behalf. He had a social mask where he could act rich and commanding when society demanded it of him, but he become disgusted with people who tried to manipulate others to achieve their goals. He would treat those people with shame and wield his knowledge like a weapon. He developed and enhanced his theatricality in the League. However, he was still too recognizable to put it to use in the League.

PERSONALITY:

INTELLIGENCE:Very smart. Intellectual aspects were too easily mastered for him. He quickly got bored and moved on to other things. This was why he was only a moderate student in school. It's not that he couldn't handle the information or do the work. It's that he was bored and moved to entertain himself in other ways. Without Laurel or Tommy, he easily lost his focus and moved on to other subjects. Oliver was very smart, but he had no focus for his intellect. This manifested his intelligence in street smarts and talents for what he decided to focus on.

CLEANLINESS:Oliver was generally a clean person. He preferred to be physically clean, but can be messy with his possessions. Oliver has always had someone to clean up after him. He was messy by nature.

CONSISTENCY:Very consistent, but he will prioritize. What was a priority to Oliver, was not necessarily a priority to others. He never made schooling a priority, but Laurel, Tommy, and Thea were a priority.

RESENTMENT: Oliver took your current actions personally. If he had given you all of the information, and you still choose to do evil, he would resent your blindness and put you down. This tendency was reinforced by the League. If a person refused to return to balance, he would gladly end them. He would also resent any actions others took that brought personal or emotional harm to those he cared about. This tied back into his loyalty. He expanded his loyalty to the entire League.

EXPECTATIONS FOR SOCIETY: Oliver failed to follow the social rules for justice. Society demanded that he follow the law. However, Oliver knew that the law was flexible. His family used money and power to influence the courts. Oliver was disillusioned by Social Laws before he joined the League. He didn't think they conformed to justice. The League reinforced this belief with their views of the outside world and how the outside world often did not act in accordance to balance. Oliver's sense of justice did not mirror that of the outside world. He didn't believe that the law was justice. To that end, the legal system was broken. He used the means that the League taught him to bring back balance in the world... in spite of the law.

EXPECTATIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS: Oliver expected individuals to operate in a common-sense role. They should behave according to what was right, not what was allowed. Anything else was to choose to do evil. He refused to believe that people could not return to balance. That they would choose not to return to balance. When someone failed to return to balance, he was more than willing to accept their choice and end them.

MASKS WORN: Playboy Mask [Social, Dutiful Son [Social], Caring Brother [Social], al Sah-him [LoA, Violent], Ruya Team Member [Social, charisma, advising]

PERSONALITY TRAITS:

COURAGEOUS: Pre-Gambit: Courageous. Courage born of being rich and handsome. He frequently felt entitled. Post-Gambit: Anxious. Fearful. He was constantly worried about how others were doing. How he could protect them. He was apprehensive that he would fail them. He used his fear and anxiety to help guide him in removing threats to the people he cared about. Oliver was very self-confident in his skills and abilities. He trusted his skills and abilities. He trained them rigorously. He perfected them. Oliver did not consider himself to be courageous. He liked to take risks. He was frequently impulsive in his actions. It was in his nature, but he didn't feel it was a risk. He knew his skills and abilities. He knew their limits. His risk-cost ratio was always weighed before he took an action, even an impulsive one. The hardest thing he had done was to ask Laurel out. He was overly concerned with the consequences of his actions... if she should refuse him. He was content being her friend, but was afraid that by asking he would lose that part of her.

OUTGOING:Optimistic. Extroverted. Oliver was a positive and outgoing person. He believed that people would choose the right course of action if given the option. However, he would plan on them just choosing the wrong path to cover his bases. He was never afraid to express his disappointment when a person chose the wrong path in his eyes. Oliver was very extroverted and outgoing. However, since his experiences on the Gambit, he kept his interactions to a small level.

CONFIDENT: Confident. Non-Invasive. Oliver was very self-confident. He had never been refused anything in his formative years. He never failed in any significant action. That confidence translated to his attitude in life. Nothing phased him. It allowed him to keep his calm. Oliver had been the target of the invasive media his whole life. He refused to indulge in any invasive actions as a result. He would only go as far as is needed.

COMPLIANT OR STUBBORN: Varies with the situation. Oliver would follow the rules when someone had explained why those rules were in place. He needed to verify the logic behind that rule. If the rule made no sense, he would easily disobey it. However, Oliver exhibited his stubborn nature when he felt that the rule was wrong. If it was meant to hurt people, it was meant to be disobeyed.

LAZY:Lazy. No ambition. Pre-Gambit: Oliver had no focus. No direction. He ended up being lazy because he had no direction. His intelligence allowed him to coast through his classes. Post-Gambit: Oliver gained focus and was driven to become the best at that task. He became hard-working until he had free time. Then he would relax and do nothing. He was content to sit still.

EMPATHETIC: Empathetic. Oliver was a very good listener. He was very empathetic and would listen to your problems or issues. Even if you didn't want his advice, just an ear. When Oliver was interested in you, he gave you his full focus. He was a patient listener. He felt deeply. He took injustice personally. He was raised to believe that he was responsible for everyone. He took that role of responsibility in the League and weighed his actions to ensure the benefit to the most people.

PASSIONATE: Passionate. Pre-Gambit: Passionate and would to try anything. He tended to be wild and impulsive. He enjoyed trying everything, especially if there was a risk. Post-Gambit: Oliver was still passionate, but he was more selective about what he would be passionate about. He was more reserved with his actions while in public (mostly to stay hidden), but he would take action to keep those he cared about safe. He was more than willing to take risks for the sake of others. Oliver was very passionate, but his passion was ruled by his objective outlook. He did everything with the fervor that the task deserved. He seldom needed to rationalize a task that he didn't want to do.

CONFRONTATIONAL: Confrontational. Oliver tended to be assertive and liked to take risks. He refused to let others exclude him or his friends. He had no problem telling you exactly what should happen. If you disagree, he would confront you and argue loudly for his opinion. The League taught him to react violently, if needed. His friends knew how to manage his wild side. Laurel quickly learned how to curb his wild nature. He preferred action and activity to standing still. He would not avoid conflict to avoid an issue. He would likely confront the person to facilitate the action required. Right or wrong, you will know his opinion and how wrong you are on the issue.

EASY-GOING: Very easy going. Oliver was generally laid back and relaxed in his surroundings. He gained an ability to adapt to different environments quickly to gain a comfort level because of his upbringing. This adaptability was enhanced in the League. Oliver was very concerned with his physical safety and the safety of others in his immediate environment, but aside from his safety he was very tolerant of the opinions of others as long as they don't impose those opinions on him. He would become confrontational when you tried to remove his choice.

HONEST:Honest. Direct. Oliver is used to having people lie to him. He was raised in a society that constantly lied to him. He had gained anger for those who lied directly to him. Regardless of the issue. If asked directly, he would answer truthfully. He was direct, but not blunt. Oliver was honest to a fault. He frequently refrained from mentioning things that would hurt you, but he never lied. His trust would easily be broken by one lie.

LOYAL: Loyal. Discreet. Oliver was very discreet. He had been a target for gossip since he was born. He despised gossip and tabloids. Oliver was affectionate. He could be sweet or firm, depending on what role he was playing. He was seldom harsh unless a person had been cruel or harsh to one of the people he loved. Then he would slice them with his razor-sharp tongue. He took responsibility for the good of the community. That community had his loyalty outside of his family.

OPEN-MINDED: Open-minded. Oliver was open to trying new things. To taking in new perspectives. Post-Gambit: Oliver had become more cautious when trying new things, but he was open to things that assist in maintaining the safety of others. Depending on the subject, Oliver could be biased or objective. He tended to be bias with family, but outside of family, he was objective and was able to help direct his loved ones onto a balanced path. His Ruya helped him to balance his bias for family.

RELIABLE: Reliable, mostly. Oliver was very consistent and very reliable when he felt that the action or loyalty was deserved. However, he would prioritize the tasks and choose to take action where he was needed the most. Oliver always weighed the priority of a task against assisting the most people. His duty and responsibility were to the people, not to a specific person. His priorities were not your priorities. If he wanted something, he would persist until it became true. Oliver had never been goal-oriented. He had no idea what he wanted, so went where ever his interests took him. Once he had a goal, he strove to perfect that task to ensure it was completed to the best of his ability. Oliver could be reliable, but he would weigh the priority of the tasks to determine what had to be accomplished. If that meant he was unreliable, then the person stating that needed to evaluate what tasks clashed with their task.

INNOVATIVE: Innovative, but pragmatic. Oliver was very pragmatic. He had a great mind, but his focus was on other things. Intellectual aspects were too easily mastered for him. He would much rather wrestle with more complex questions. When he needed an object to accomplish a task, he would create that object in the most expedient manner possible. Then put it out of his mind.

IMPULSIVE: Impulsive. Moody. Wild. Diligent. Oliver was frequently told to curb his wild side. He would go out of his way to try new adventures, especially those adventures with risks. He could control his impulses, but he preferred not to stop. He found that the new adventures assisted in removing his boredom. Post-Gambit: Oliver was moody. Oliver was not a free spirit, but he was wild. His upbringing taught him how to reign in some of his behavior. Oliver could be impulsive, but he always thought out his impulsive actions to a high degree. He was not cautious, but he planned out his actions to an extreme. Mostly so that his loved ones with him would not get hurt. He had no problem getting injured himself, but he hated having a loved one injured. Oliver was diligent. He was taught to cover all the bases during a time where the risk involved his life and additional pain. He learned to be meticulous and plan several contingencies. Oliver started as immature. He grew up quickly while trying to survive. However, this did not eliminate his desire to act out for no reason. To be flamboyant. Oliver could be patient, but he was usually not patient when the task didn't require planning, contingencies, or action. He could wait while hunting, but grew restless if he had to sit and do nothing for an extended period of time.

VIOLENT: Violent. Pre-Gambit: Oliver would actively confront people and their attitudes. He preferred to have rapid solutions. This usually involved some form of violence. He was cautious not to get caught or have this tendency advertised in the media. This was usually because he was trying the lazy way. Post-Gambit: Oliver found that the easiest way to express his displeasure with a chosen course of action was through violence and anger. He called this releasing his monster. He was very often brutal and angry when he expressed how upset he was over the chosen course of action. Sometimes physically. Sometimes verbally. However, he refused to lash out against Laurel or Tommy.

SELFLESS: Deep. Selfless. Rebel. Proud. Oliver was very deep. He usually masked how deeply he felt something. When he had given you his loyalty, he would kill and die for you. He had to choose to live for his friends when he thought he had lost them. Oliver was a rebel because of his upbringing, Oliver was constantly told how to live his life. He rebelled against this course of action. He hated being told what to do. Oliver had no problem with bucking a system that was flawed. He found that rebellion mirrored his desire to correct the system from the outside. Oliver was proud of his family and heritage, but he had no personal pride. He was proud of his family name, but he had decided that he, himself, had done nothing to justify pride in himself. All his actions Post-Gambit are based on his own achievements, skills, and abilities.

SUSPICIOUS: Suspicious. Intolerant. Oliver was not easily influenced by others. He had spent his whole life being manipulated for his money or family name. To this end, he was not easy to convince to take any action he did not agree with. However, if the action was justified, he would easily see the probabilities of the action. He would take that action quickly once it was explained to him. Oliver was not very tolerant. He despised people who made rash judgments based on factors that don't matter, like race, sex, religion, or country. This belief was reinforced in the League. He judged people on their skills and abilities. How good a cop? How good a soldier? How good an assassin? He didn't care about things that did not affect the job. Oliver was neither cynical or idealistic. He was more realistic. He preferred to see people as they are, not how they can change for the better. He was very down to earth. He believed that people would choose to return to balance.

ETHICAL: Pre-Gambit: Arrogant, but generally ethical. He was privileged and people would frequently try to use him. He would defer them with an arrogant front. This put most people off and allowed him to only be open with his friends. Oliver was NOT humble. Post-Gambit: Ethical. Humble. Presumptuous. He no longer had to use a defensive front to protect himself from people who wanted to use him for his money or family. The League did not focus on that. He only focused on his League contacts and allies. Because he was abused by unethical people, he found extreme distaste in that sort of behavior. He was more than willing to call others to task for less than ethical behaviors. Oliver was presumptuous. He took what you told him at face value. If you lied to him, then it was your presumption that led to his actions. He would push as needed. If he caught you in a lie, he would never trust you again.

SERIOUS: Serious. Oliver was very understanding. He preferred to see the world as it was. He was able to take that perspective and gave people the benefit of the doubt. To allow them to return to balance. He liked to think that people made their own choices, and you just had to show them all of their choices. Once they had chosen, he would ensure they understand the full meaning of the consequences of their choice.

GENEROUS:Pre-Gambit: Generous, but could be self-centered. No hardships help him learn that behavior. He was generous because his mother was focused on charities as a part of her social position. He was wealthy and had no problem spending on his friends. He felt it was the duty of the rich to help the poor. Post-Gambit: Generous. Self-sacrificing. He did not value himself. He would place himself in danger to save others, but he would not spend his life on people who used him. Oliver was not possessive, but he liked to share his passions with others. When someone got possessive, he could deflect them away. Oliver could be hospitable, but it depended on who was seeking hospitality. He would remain reserved for everyone he did not trust. It was easy to lose his trust. It was hard or impossible to gain it back. Oliver had lived a life of wealth and privilege, but that had not allowed him to be normal. He was envious of those people who did not live in the spotlight constantly.

CALM & EXCITABLE: Both, calm and excitable. Oliver had a very unique perspective on his friends. He was generally calm or he got excited to a hyperactive level, but if he was refused something, he would only persist on his own view until you comply, agree, or walk away. He didn't get bad-tempered. However, if someone endangered a person that he cared about, he would react protectively and violently to defend the person he cared for. He learned from a young age how to wield words like a knife and when words fail, he reacted physically.

LOOSE: Loose. Oliver was very loose and curious sexually. He discovered his interest in men was limited, but it didn't stop him from trying out the new thing. He tended to focus on the person and people he was with. He had a very high sex drive. He could easily come 10 times in a night with a short recovery time. His partners had complained that it took two of them to settle him down.

SOCIOLOGY:

RELATIONSHIP-ROMANTIC PARTNER:

Dinah Laurel Lance: Oliver had been in love with Laurel since he was eight. He loved that she saw him, but he lacked focus. He didn't think he was enough for someone as driven as Laurel. Laurel accompanied Oliver on the Gambit. Oliver was more than willing to bring her along to bond with himself and his father. Oliver discovered that he had a hard time living without Laurel in his life for his six months of separation. Afterwards, Laurel was more than willing to commit her life to Oliver. He was committed to helping her recover from her sexual abuse, but he discovered that he needed more than just Laurel.

Thomas Arthur Merlyn: Tommy had always been in his life. When he was separated from Tommy, he realized how badly he needed Tommy in his life. Upon joining the League, Oliver began to see his close friendship with Tommy evolve to a more active partnership. To encompass more than just friendship. The culture of the League allowed him to consider a romantic relationship with Tommy while he was still with Laurel. He pursued it.

RELATIONSHIP-CLASSMATES: Besides Tommy and Laurel, Oliver was only casual acquaintances with his classmates. He learned at a very young age that his classmates only wanted to be friends with him because of his wealth and family name. Tommy was different. Laurel didn't care about his money.

RELATIONSHIP-FRIENDS: Oliver was best friends with Tommy, Laurel, and Sara. These were the only people he allowed to see the real Oliver. Everyone else got a version of a mask that fit their expectations for who Oliver really was. Even his parents.

Sara Marie Lance: Sara was Oliver's close friend. She was his partner in crime. She had been close to Oliver, Laurel, and Tommy and spent time at Queen Manor. Because of this exposure, Sara was one of the few people that Oliver trusted.

NOTES:

As you can tell, I spent A LOT of time fleshing out my AU!Oliver. Oliver Queen is a fan favorite in BOTH the Arrowverse and the DCU. Justifiably so. Many people assume that their head canon Oliver is the only right one. Which leads to conflicts, etc, etc.

I don't bash my AU!Oliver. I traumatize him, but I use the about character traits to plot out how he reacts to that trauma. If you like Oliver bashing, my AU!Oliver is not for you.

Arrowverse!Oliver and DCU!Oliver are both very complex and flawed characters. I would go on to say that the Arrowverse destroyed their Oliver within the first five minutes of their pilot episode with the Gambit-Sara fiasco. I addressed Oliver as a flamboyant flirt without destroying his character. I then built up his core beliefs to develop him as a main character. Yes, he is still flawed, but not to the point where he intentionally destroys himself.

In general, Oliver's basic history is the same. Rich. Lost. Found. Becomes vigilante. Uber liberal. That doesn't even account for the many flaws in his history and story in both the Arrowverse and DCU. This is how I tried to resolve these differences. Don't hate me.

That said, Oliver Queen and Green Arrow are VERY long-lived DC characters. They have many iterations. They have changed many times over the decades. Usually, without explaining how DC chose that character trait. I tried to explain mine through his past and his life experience. Yes, I hit on his sex drive. Because it was a huge part of his personality. Batman was the monk. Not Oliver. He is NOT a womanizer or a serial cheater as displayed in the DCU!Oliver. He has two partners; Laurel and Tommy. Those were the only people he WANTED to be with. His sexual energy was a part of his need for action.

I also made him devastatingly handsome. Memorable kind of handsome in a pretty kind of way. Steven Amell was a rugged handsome. I wanted so pretty that you drooled at the TV handsome. I went younger and prettier. Because of his media exposure, the whole civilized world knows what he looked like. He broke hearts all around the world when he died. This made his stealth and infiltration training harder.
