Chapter 11: Professor Anthony Ivo
Ivo was a hard character to sketch out for my AU. The character in this story is closer to the Arrowverse!Ivo than the DCU!Ivo, but I did bring some of the DCU elements over. Ivo's specialty is a prime example, but I like the insane ship vibe I got from the Arrowverse.

ORIGIN:
Professor Anthony Ivo was a University Professor with borderline morality working at Ivy City University. He has a genius-level intellect. His specialties are robotics with emphasis on cellular and structural biology. His goal is to create an artificial biological cell that can mimic life.
His wife got an inoperable brain tumor. Cancer. At this point, Ivo decided that he MUST find a way to save his wife. He must find a way to cure her cancer. His University denied his research on moral grounds. Ivo decided to take his research to international waters.
He bought the cargo ship, the Amazo, and retrofitted it with a state-of-the-art research laboratory inside. He created Ivo Labs. He took the ship and picked out a pirate crew. He created a specialized nanotech virus and infected each of the pirates. The nanotech targeted specific organs and would release a debilitating acid at Ivo's command.
The first Captain tried to defy him in front of the crew. At a spoken word, the Captain fell to the floor writhing in pain until he finally died screaming. This terrified the crew. They all believed that Ivo had special powers and could kill with his voice. The rest of the crew never tried to cross him again. In return, Ivo largely ignored what the crew did as long as he has test subjects. Ivo's apathy saved the crew from trying to end his life.
His wife died two months after he first set sail. With her death, Ivo lost his mind. He was an insane genius bent on unlocking the key to curing everything. He had a special demented goal to cure cancerous cells. He specialized in nanorobotics, but he found larger robotics to be just as easy to create. They presented no challenge.
In this story, since Ivo started his research, two years have passed. Once a month, the Amazo went to a port to stock up on supplies. One day for sundries. One day for human cargo. Ivo doesn't care how the subject cages are filled, as long as they are full. He allowed the crew to have the females. He would only experiment on the males.

Ivo was married, but his wife died of an inoperable brain tumor in past years. No children.

MY AU MOTIVATION:
Ivo's motivation is to find a cure for all diseases, including cancer. Ivo is aware of the metagene, but he does not actively seek it out. He lost his mind when his wife died. His sole goal is to unlock a cure. His main failure is that he doesn't care how he finds that cure. He induced illness and cancer in his subjects to test his nanotech cures. If a subject is not cured or died. They were disposed of overboard. Ivo had no morality after the loss of his wife.

PERSONALITY:
Ivo is a very forceful personality. He is very intelligent and can easily read people's emotions. He uses those emotions to manipulate them. He will use any means to achieve his goals. He considers what he is doing as right. If you oppose him, you are wrong.

NOTES:
Ivo is one of those DCU villains that don't make any sense. Like Joker. Ivo created the Amazo Robot. Why? I think he was more than a touch insane in DCU and they just tried to write a backstory for the Amazo Robot. They needed a tough bad guy to go against the Justice League, but failed to do any type of backstory until after it was published. Retcon after Retcon, the character is still very thin.
I like the specialty in robotics and nanotech. Arrowverse!Ivo was insane. DCU!Ivo was likely insane. I kept that quality in my Ivo. I just took away his focus from Mirakuru to experimentation for funsies. I commend the actor for being able to portray a completely rational insane person. He did an awesome job in showing the audience how bent Ivo was.
