Chapter 19: Simon Stagg
My AU!Simon Stagg was mostly made up of Arrowverse!Simon Stagg. I did include some aspects of DCU!Simon Stagg. However, Arrowverse!Simon Stagg didn't have a large role to play in Arrow. This left his character open to use in just about any way. The parts that were missing from the Arrowverse, are from DCU. He didn't really have a large role in my AU either.

ORIGIN:
Simon Stagg was a brilliant man. He built his company, Stagg Industries, off his brilliance. He was able to use his intelligence to build and develop his company first around engineering. Then chemistry, and finally genetics. His first love.
Simon was easily able to use his business acumen to thwart the governmental regulators on a consistent basis. He didn't see the need for the multitude of regulations governing his various industries. However, he was not stupid enough to leave a trail for the regulators to see. He would frequently take manufacturing shortcuts that reduced the cost of his processes without exposing himself in his regulation paperwork.
After so many years in the top of his fields, Stagg Industries was a power in Central City. He married and had a daughter, Sapphire Stagg. However, his wife left him because he was too immersed in his business. Sapphire eventually moved in with her father. He had always been a doting father to her. Indulgent to her face. Conniving behind her back.
One of Simon's greatest accomplishments was the ability to create a clone of a Neanderthal. However, his genetic experiments were not sanctioned and were technically illegal. To hid the boy, Simon adopted the child born of his experiments and named him Java. He never treated Java like a son. He treated him like an experiment.
At the time of my AU, Sapphire is a young woman who is exploring the world. She has met Rex Mason, the archeologist, and has developed a deep relationship with him. Simon doesn't want his daughter to get involved with the archeologist. He sent him hunting a rare artifact to take him away from Sapphire. Sapphire is livid with her father for interfering with her life.

FAMILY:
Sapphire Stagg (blood): Sapphire was an independent young woman who carried none of her father's flexible morality. She was quick to anger when she was faced with wrong. She carried a light about her that inspired her father to be a better man.

MOTIVATION:
Simon Stagg was motivated by power and influence. He wanted people to know who he was and to defer to his knowledge. He barely acknowledged his divorce from Sapphire's mother because it didn't affect his position or power. He skirted the moral line when confronted by governmental regulations that cut into the profits from his manufacturing processes, but he seldom crossed the line into outright danger. He felt that with his brilliance, anyone who worked for him benefited from his brilliance. He treated discoveries by his employees as his own. He often had a clause written in their contracts that entitled any of their discoveries on company time, as property of Stagg Industries.
Simon Stagg was also motivated by control. This was especially true of his daughter. He wanted to control every aspect of her life. He felt that the best way to protect her was to control who had access to her. This often brought him into conflict with his daughter.

PERSONALITY:
Simon Stagg had a strong and charismatic personality. He made you believe that anything was possible. His brilliance inspired his employees to greatness. However, his tendency to desire control and power frequently caused him to burn his employees. He frequently took credit for their discoveries. He left them without protection and took advantage of them.

NOTES:
I developed AU!Simon Stagg because I needed a way to track a borderline businessman. Arrowverse!Simon Stagg was better than the Arrowverse!Ted Kord. I didn't use much outside of his DCU background because his Arrowverse background was largely missing.
