AN: Just a heads up, the Jaune in this was inspired by Hercules from Fate/Stay Night and his semblance WAS the noble phantasm shown in the show. If you haven't seen the show and are planning on watching, or are in the middle of watching, and don't want spoilers you have been warned.
Survival (working title)
-Ren-
Face a calm stoic mask, Ren sent silent apologies to the staff members who'd agreed to keep an eye on Nora as he went up to meet the Headmaster, Ozpin. Why he was being called to see the man when initiation wasn't even for another three days was another matter.
"Ah, there you are." Ozpin nodded as Ren stepped out of the elevator, "Now that you're all here we can begin." As he took a seat, Ren noticed two other girls he recognized as Weiss Schnee and Pyrrha Nikos were in attendance as well.
"May I ask why we're here sir?" Pyrrha asked with polite confusion.
"Of course." Ozpin let out a tired sigh, "I was hoping to ask a favor of the three of you in regard to a team I'm hoping to have formed for the upcoming year." Ren saw Weiss stifle an excited expression while Pyrrha looked like her polite smile was becoming strained.
"May I ask why sir?" Ren decided to speak up, "And why you're so certain we'll pass?"
"I've gotten good at figuring out who will and won't pass initiation each year." Ozpin gave a good-natured chuckle, "And I wanted to ask you three because I feel you three will be the best ones to be able to help one of your upcoming classmates."
All three of them blinked in confusion at that, sharing baffled looks with one another, "Sir?" Weiss probed.
"One of your classmates is…unique in their situation." Ozpin looked, for lack of a better word, defeated as he spoke "He needs help in a great many areas but in all honesty, I doubt there's a student at any of the academies that could stop him in a true no hold's barred fight. And yes, that includes you miss Nikos." As Ozpin spoke, the headmaster brought up an image of an absurdly gargantuan blond bearing a near feral expression.
"I…is that who you wished to us to team up with?" Weiss gulped at the wild man's picture.
"Yes. This is one Jaune Arc." Ozpin nodded, "When he was six years old, his village was attacked and burnt to the ground by the Branwen Tribe of Mistral. Jaune was the only survivor." Ren felt a blow to his gut from the story not all that dissimilar to his or Nora's.
"How did he survive?" Pyrrha looked horrified.
"He got lucky that his father managed to hide him during the chaos but that's where luck ran out." Ozpin's expression was tired and broken at the mention of what Raven Branwen, who Ren had heard was an ex-alumni of this school, had done "Jaune was the sole survivor with no other thought of how to get by than to get to his sister who lived in Argus. Which was on the other side of the continent they lived on."
Ren's eyes widened at the implication, "He walked? A child that young walked that far? No…no, someone had to have found him partway through, right?"
"He walked." Ozpin shook his head, "No concept of where to go besides North and on the coast. He walked and without aura as he is one of those who cannot unlock theirs on their own. He walked and he survived for all those years. Not just the elements but from what I've learned there were no less than a dozen incidents where he was in a fight that should have ended his life. Still…despite all he suffered he wants to be a huntsman, to save others. And once he got to Argus, he had his aura unlocked. His semblance, is extra lives. After he dies, he is almost instantly resurrected to full health and can come back a dozen times. Not just that but he will get back one of those lives every twenty-four hours if they're used. A retired huntsman doctor whose semblance lets them understand those of others at a glance learned all this."
"…Why do you need us?" Ren broke the stunned silence.
"You, young man, for how your semblance can help him. Jaune is still healing mentally from his ordeal. He was on his own for so long and had to rage against the world to survive. You'd be able to not only relate to his trauma, but your semblance could help calm him if he goes into a rage." Ren nodded, remembering doing something similar for himself and Nora when they'd been younger after their village was destroyed.
"Miss Schnee, you have the highest academic scores among the first years, so you'd be the best at helping him get caught up academically." Ozpin continued as the white-haired girl nodded, seeming unsurprised.
"And finally, Miss Nikos, while Jaune is stronger than you are physically he is all raw power. I was hoping you could help him acquire technique. I…feel partly responsible for what happened to him, given that I was the one who trained Raven all those years ago. If you three agree to aide him then there will be compensation for you. And don't worry Mr. Lie, your friend Miss Valkyrie will be roomed next to you so you're not that far apart."
"I…I want to help sir." Ren nodded, his resolve set.
AN: So yeah, this is a Jaune with the god hand. I thought it'd be interesting, and this is just a first look at concept and what his immediate circle would be at Beacon.
