A few days later, Luz was introducing King to all the demons and legends of the Underworld.
"Now this, is the most dangerous animalistic demon in hell." Luz said, revealing an artist rendering of a person being ripped in half by a large winged beast, "The Death Glider!"
King gasped in awe of the beast, leaning closer to see the picture clearer. It was a black and red scaled demon, with massive wings as it's forelimbs with "Small" hind legs. If it was assumed that the person being devoured was around six feet tall, it would be a good guess to say the demon itself was around 70 feet.
"It's a powerful demon, but also one of the most elusive." Luz explained, "It has a long neck, attached to it's strong body, with its tail used to help balance it when it flies. Despite its look, it's not actually related to dragons/wyverns, they evolved in hell separately."
"How is it elusive?" King asked, "If it's so big and dangerous, I thought it would be easy to spot."
"That's the thing, it can change its color and pattern to blend in with anything, not to mention that it can fly completely silently."
"Compete silence?" King asked in shock.
"Complete and total silence just like an owl." Luz said with a nod. "It's one of the deadliest demons in hell for a reason. Right alongside the next one, the Shadow Reaper."
Luz removed the Death Glider picture away, revealing a shadow monster with long black tendrils that seemed to make up its entire body.
"The Shadow Reaper is a dangerous creature that can take any form, specifically the form of someone's shadow. It will take the shadow and copy it's victims movement, slowly draining the life from them, until they are weak enough to be devoured whole." Luz said, as her eyes began turning red, "And then, they will take the form of the person they killed, memories and all, and then lure their next victim in and repeat the process."
Luz started scaring King a little to the point he was holding his tail and shaking. Luz then stood up and smiled innocently.
"Okay, now let's talk about the Hells Angel." Luz said.
Luz changed the image and revealed a being with wings that had black and white feathers, eyes that had black Sclera and white slit iris'. They held a demonic Guan Dao Spear in their right hand, while a white and gold angelic shield was on their left forearm. They wore armor that was black with gold trim on it.
"This... Hell's Angel, one of the most popular legends in the entire underworld, if not the entire Afterlife." Luz said, "It's said that their black and white eyes can make demons and angel alike stop in shock, their strength is said to rival my grandfather, they are the most powerful beings in the universe."
King looked amazed.
"Do you know any?" He asked.
Luz just chuckled.
"Oh, King, they're a legend, a fake one at that, in order for something like this to happen is for someone to be half angel and half demon, and those two beings cannot have a child together."
"But... don't you have an angel and demon side?"
"Yeah, but that's different." Luz said, "My dad was the first angel and that led to me inheriting my angel side, but when I get older my demon side with take over and I will finally... finally... get my devil weapon."
"Devil weapon?"
"A powerful tool, when the devil unlocks their true power, part their power manifests into a physical form, a weapon that can split the ground, make volcanos erupt, and command demons of all kinds!" Luz said, starting to sound a bit evil before switching her personality, "I made pictures of my potential weapon, what do you think?"
Luz pulled out pictures from her book and showed them to King. There were swords, axes, bows. Pretty much everything.
'She is REALLY excited about this weapon.' King thought, seeing all of the various designs/prediction pictures of what her weapon could be someday.
"Yes, I am!" Luz said, reading his mind, "That weapon means I'm going to be as powerful as my father! I'll have the strength, the wealth, the honor of being the leader of the greatest nation in the afterlife! I can't wait!"
Suddenly thunder rang from the sky. Luz and King looked outside as storm clouds seemed to be forming.
"Oh, it's about to rain." Luz said with a smile.
"Luz, that's not exactly a good thing here." King said as Luz looked confused.
"Why?" She asked him.
"Uh, the rain boils!" King said.
Luz just smiled and walked outside.
"King, I took swim lessons... in a volcano, a little hot water doesn't really bother me." Luz said, "Besides, aren't you immune to it?"
"That's besides the point!" King said.
It started raining, and Luz enjoyed the feeling of the hot drops hit her head. The burning on her skin and the heat from the air reminded her of home, both of Earth and of Hell.
"Boiling rain! Everyone inside!" Eda shouted, running from town and towards Luz.
'Yeah, no.' Luz thought as she leaned as Eda tried to grab her!
She flipped away from Eda.
"You have fun inside, because this is cool." Luz said.
"Cool?! It's boiling rain!" Eda asked her.
"And I've bathed in lava before. This is nothing." Luz said, spinning around in the rain, "You just live your silly mortal life and experience pain."
"Seriously?" Eda asked as she quickly made a shield/cover for herself. "I dread to see how you would react to the other plagues of the Isles."
"Plagues? Is that what you call the weather here?" Luz asked as she stopped spinning. "What are they?"
Eda backed up at the smile on Luz's face, fangs and all.
"You... are way too excited about that."
"I know, now tell me." Luz said, her smile still standing on her lips.
"I feel like I shouldn't but fine. A few example of our plagues are gorenados, shale hail, and painbows." Eda said to her.
"What's a painbow?" Luz asked.
"It's like a normal rainbow but looking at it can turn you inside out." Eda said blankly.
"Cool." Luz said, amazed by it.
"NOT cool." Eda and King said at the same time.
"Now are you gonna get inside the house so I can put up the barrier or what?" Eda asked, gesturing to the house.
"She's fine! Put the barrier up already!" Hooty shouted from the door. "I feel my precious stucco melting already!"
"Well, I have to know, because the barrier isn't able to be penetrated." Eda said, "She goes out there and I put it up, she's stuck out there."
"Fine, fine, I'm coming in!" Luz said, with her hands raised, "Hey, King, want to perform a blood ritual?"
"No blood rituals in my house!" Eda said quickly as Luz walked past her. "Do you know how hard it is to get blood stains out?"
"Yes, I do. The secret is to use two parts baking soda and one part water, plus a little spritz of hydrogen peroxide." Luz said.
Eda smacked the back of Luz's head.
"No blood rituals in the house." Eda said.
"Okay, mom." Luz said sarcastically.
"Hey! I am WORSE than your mom! I will fuck you up and leave you to rot!" Eda shouted, being intimidating as she expanded her shield to cover her house. "I am the most powerful and most wanted witch on the Isles for a reason."
'I can't believe she called me mom... and I can't believe I'm not opposed to it.'
"I am an unkillable, immortal, undead spawn of sin, I do not intimidate whatsoever. I can take anything and EVERYTHING you throw at me." Luz said.
"Is that a challenge?" Eda asked, turning to Luz.
"Maybe. IF you can back up that big talk." Luz said with a wide grin, revealing her fangs again.
Eda shivered a bit, Luz was a bit unnerving at times.
"Kid, you're cool and all, but you are too freaky sometimes." Eda said, walking into the house.
"As if you aren't freaky yourself. You're called "owl lady" for some reason. That must mean something." Luz said as she and King walked in behind her.
"It's because I'm so wise." Eda said.
"Or because she coughs up rat bones." King said.
"I think it's because she's attracted to shiny objects." Hooty said.
"Shut up, Hooty!" Eda said quickly.
"Hehehehehehe, really? Like an actual owl? Next you're gonna tell me you sleep in a nest." Luz said to Eda.
"She does actually." King quickly said.
That did it, Luz started laughing uncontrollably.
"Titan dang it, King!" Eda shouted at him.
"What? She guessed and I told her she was right." King said to her.
"But what about my image and self respect?!" Eda shouted at him.
"You're teaching the harbinger of the apocalypse, what else do you need to be feared?" Luz asked
"She's got a point, hoot." Hooty said.
"Shut up and guard the house! I'm going to take a nap after that spell." Eda said, using magic to switch into her messy pajamas.
Eda went back out and put her barrier around her, before starting the spell. King and Luz went out to watch, not being bothered by the rain.
'I can't tell if this is a them thing or a demon thing.' Eda thought.
"So what is the weather like in hell, Luz? Is it better or worse than here?" King asked her.
"Uh, well, that depends." Luz said, "Hell is very big, but it rarely gets below 90 degrees. Hell is demonic for 'Fire' so as you can imagine, it's always hot, we don't really have rain there at all. We do have two large rivers that go through most of the world, but every year during volcano season, the lava from volcano alley seep into the rivers and make it turn orange and raise the temperature of it."
"….So it's just constantly hot?" King asked, already sweating.
"Pretty much but you get use to it. The rivers are nice when they're made of water, like long hot tubs." Luz said, patting his head, "Thankfully, most demons of hell are pretty immune to heat. Still, I live in Sin City, which is pretty tame weather wise."
"You actually named a city after Sin? Is that a bad joke?" Eda asked, finishing the spell and heading back inside.
"Nope, it was intentional. All cities in hell are named after something demonic or unholy." Luz said, "It's also the Capital of Hell, located in Star County. Very modern city, a lot like Bonesborough... just bigger."
"How much bigger?" Eda asked.
"How many people are on the Isles?"
"About 2.3 million."
"Yeah, the population of the County is 4.5 million, Sin City having a good third of that."
"WHAT?!" Eda and King shouted in shock, the former almost having a heart attack from the sheer number.
'How many people sin on Earth?!' Eda thought.
"Yep. There are a lot of sinful people in the human world." Luz said with a nod, "Again, that's just Star County, that's just one of the 66 established counties in Hell. Most are sinners, others are natural born demons. In total, Hell has a population of 3.7 Trillion."
Suddenly, Eda fainted to the floor as the sheer number combined with her exhaustion made it impossible for her to stay standing.
"Uh, that's not good." Luz said, "Good thing I didn't tell her the military is almost one trillion."
She was going to exclude the fact that it was made of powerful demons as well as some of the worst factions to exist, such as Nazis, Terrorist, and Confederates, just to name a few. Luz picked her up and carried her to bed.
"Please stop talking." King said, walking to Eda. "Let's just carry her upstairs and out wait the rain. I think I've learned enough about hell for now."
"Fine, I wanted to hear about some of the demons here anyway." Luz said.
With only one hand, Luz picked and threw Eda over her shoulder to carry her upstairs as King followed behind them. A small chuckle came from her lips as she still found Eda sleeping in a literal giant nest hilarious.
'I am SO gonna take a picture when I put Eda down.' Luz thought.
Luz, unceremoniously, dropped Eda into the nest.
"Alright, done!" Luz said
She clapped her hands clean before taking several photos of Eda's position in her nest.
"Okay, let's head back downstairs." Luz said to King.
King followed Luz for a moment before slapping Eda and rushing out!
"Hehehehehehe!" King giggled.
Once back in the den, Luz sat and watched as King set up his own teaching set up for demons of the Boiling Isles.
"Now, Hell isn't the only one with some very dangerous creatures." King said, "For example, bam!"
He showed Luz a picture of a giraffe.
"Well... that explains Grandpa's confusion when they just showed up." Luz said.
"Yes! The giraffe is one of the most heinous and dangerous demons to ever walk the demon realm! They were so bad, we had to banish them to another dimension entirely! The same with vampires, yetis, and griffins when the population got too much to handle." King said as he put the picture down.
"Wait, vampires came from here? Are all human legends about monsters just demons dumped from this realm?" Luz asked.
"That what Eda told me, yes." King said with a nod.
"Huh... I really should speak with Dracula more often, see what he knows about this stuff." Luz said, "Dad can probably get in contact with him."
"Anyway, the current most dangerous demon on the Boiling Isles. The Snaggleback!" King said, revealing a picture of the Snaggleback.
"Oh, looks fierce." Luz said.
"Right? Snaggleback's are ferocious demons with shells that are impervious to the acid rain. Legend says they wander out during the rain with an appetite for unlucky tourists." King said.
"Well, if one of them tries that here, they're in serious trouble." Luz said.
"I don't now, Luz. I hard their shells are as tough as diamonds. I don't think you could break it." King said to her.
"I won't know unless I try and if I can't, I'll just pull him out." Luz said as if it was simple.
"Besides."
Luz summoned a large diamond, almost the size of a baseball... she crushed it in her hand, like it was a snowball.
"GULP!" King said nervously, his teacher hat falling off.
'How strong is she?'
Luz clapped her hands clean of the sparkling dust before looking back to King.
"So, anything else I should know about demons here?" Luz asked him.
"Uh, well…there are three main types of demon. Biped, Bug, and Beast." King said.
"Which one are you?" Luz asked.
"Me? I never asked but going by my appearance, I'm a beast type demon." Demon said, looking over himself. "At least I think."
'Okay, I'm going to take a look and see what I can find out about him.' Luz thought, 'After his lesson of course.'
"Anything unique about the demon species?" Luz asked him.
"Well, each one can use magic in their own way." King said.
"Cool."
"If you're talking about demons, I can teach you too!" Hooty said, stretching into the den!
"Hooty, this is my lesson!" King shouted at him.
Before anyone could say anything else, the sound of glass shattering could be heard, coming from upstairs.
"Did you guys hear that?" Luz asked, looking up
"Yeah." King said.
"I FELT it. Hoot." Hooty said.
"Get behind me." Luz said, heading up the stairs, "Hooty, let us know if something comes downstairs."
"Aye aye!" Hooty shouted as he stretches back outside of the house.
Luz opened her book and summoned a bow. She pulled on the draw string and a bright red arrow formed.
"Woah, how'd you do that?" King asked.
"All bows in Hell fire arrows that are made out of demonic energy. The stronger the demon, the brighter the arrow will glow." Luz said, "Now stay quiet, we don't know what that was."
King covered his mouth and nodded, following Luz as she made her way upstairs to Eda's room.
Luz put her back against the wall, before quickly moving in front of the door and kicking it open. She had her bow aimed, and saw... nothing. No intruder and no Eda?
"Where did Eda go?" Luz asked, looking around.
"She was out cold when we left her." King said, looking around as well.
Luz walked around until she stepped on something. She looked down and saw a pile of broken glass and a golden liquid on the floor. She kneeled down and put her fingers in the liquid. She brought her fingers to her mouth and tasted the liquid before gagging a bit at the taste. If the cannibalistic, carnivorous, blood drinking demon doesn't like the taste, then you know it's bad.
"UGH! What is this?!" Luz shouted, spitting at the floor.
"That stuff? That's just something Eda usually drinks everyday. I don't know why though, she never told me." King said, looking at the golden liquid.
They suddenly heard screaming and the lights went out.
"Hooty?" King asked, recognizing the voice.
The owl demon controls the lights in the house, so if something happened to him then that means, they were both in the dark. Literally. They ran downstairs and saw that Hooty was off the hinges, in the jaws of somethings mouth. It was some sort of demon, a large beast with only its glowing eyes visible in the darkness.
"SNAGGLEBACK!" King shouted, assuming the beast was that creature.
"Grrrrr!" It growled, gripping Hooty tightly.
Luz quickly drew her bow and fired the demon energy arrow, making the beast jump back and drop Hooty to the ground. The bright glow coming from the arrow made the beast screech and retreat back to the top floor.
"It's getting away!" Luz said, turning back to King. "Find a weapon and let's get hunting!"
"Uh... Yes, ma'am!" King said.
King rushed into the kitchen, tossing pots and pans around as he searched for weapons. Maybe armor too. Luz held her book close at all times. An entire book of spells and weapons would be VERY handy against whatever is inside of the house.
'If that thing did something to Eda, I am gonna have it for dinner!' Luz thought.
The two went upstairs, closer to the sound of snarling. King had gotten a pot lid to use as a shield while hold on a large metal fork for a weapon, but it was shaking in his nervous grip as Luz still held her bow in hand.
"Ready?" Luz asked, pulling back the string and making an energy arrow to light the hallway.
"R-Ready." King said with a stutter.
Luz turned the corner and fired the arrow, embedding it into the wall, just behind the beast.
"RAAAH!" The beast roared, hating the light as it gave Luz and King a clearer image of it
It had feathers, but hid its face, neither of them could think of anything that it was.
"How did it even get in, the barrier shouldn't be able to get breached?" King said.
Luz's eyes widened at this... if the barrier wasn't able to be breached, then it was in there the entire time.
'No Eda, broken glass, an elixir that she has to drink, already here.' Luz began to piece it together.
"King, get behind me." Luz said, lowering the bow.
"What? Why?" King asked before seeing Luz put her weapon away. "And why are you unarmed?"
"Because I understand now." Luz said, walking towards the beast, "Eda?"
"Eda?" King repeated, confused.
"ROOOOOAH!" The beats roared, moving forward enough for the energy arrow to light up her face.
"What... what happened to you?" Luz asked.
She held a hand out, hoping that Eda would recognize her scent... that's how that works, right?
"Eda... it's me."
Eda growled and then pounced on Luz. Eda sliced Luz's chest, sending blood all over the halls and floor.
"Fine, mother fucker, you want to go, let's go!" Luz said, her eyes turning red.
She kicked Eda away and then did a Kip Up. The owl beast shook her head and roared at Luz, making Luz roar right back as her demonic tome floats next to her! She summoned the bow again. Luz aimed new arrows at Eda, ready to fight and possibly kill Eda if this new version of her is blood thirsty enough! She released the arrow. Eda dodged and charged at Luz with her claws out! Luz easily grabbed her and threw her to the other side of hall.
"King, find cover." Luz said, walking out of the room.
"But I want to help!" King said to her.
"You staying safe does help." Luz said, shutting the door with her foot.
Luz cracked her neck when she heard Eda rush at her.
"Bout to make some fried chicken." Luz said, holding a red fireball in her hand.
Inside of the room, King was banging on the door to be let out as he heard the sound of fighting outside! He wanted to stop them from fighting, he wanted to fix this.
'Think! What can I do?! What can I do to help?!' King thought as he looked around Eda's room, seeing a pool of the gold liquid.
He ran towards it and saw a smashed bottle near, hopefully that could give him some clues.
'Where would Eda put one of these things?'
He got up and rushed to the closet, throwing aside clothes and other junk.
"Come on, come on!" King said before hearing a loud crash outside of the room! "Come on! Where is it?!"
He found one of the bottles.
"Yes!" King said, grabbing the bottle. "Now I just need to get out of here!"
He looked at the door.
'If I can't use the door then-' King thought as he looked to the smashed window. 'I don't think I could survive that fall without breaking my legs. Maybe there's a weapon here that I could use to smash the door open.'
He looked around for one. The fighting outside made him more worried as thunder cracked outside the house, making King think a war was going on between Luz and Eda!
"There's one!" He shouted, running towards it.
He grabbed an axe, not really asking why Eda had one here.
"Ugh!" He lifted it with a grunt, nearly falling down. "Here comes the KING!"
With a defiant cry, King charged at the door and swung with all his might. He somehow broke it down. He was surprised but very happy as he quickly ran toward the sounds of fighting. He saw Luz in the jaws of Eda.
"GET THE FUCK OFF ME, EDA!" Luz screamed, against the wall as she used her foot to push back Eda's jaws!
It was stabbed in a few of her teeth but Luz didn't care as she was losing in a battle of strength against the owl beast known as Eda. Luz gave Eda a sharp kick to her eye, making her let go, but only for a second. Luz attempted to reach her bow, but she was grabbed and yanked back by her foot, which got bitten off.
"Fucking whore! Do you have any idea how long that will take to grow that back!?" Luz yelled, before Eda pounced on Luz and bit down on her neck, "I swear to Grandpa, if you bit my head off, I will kick your ass!"
The only reason she was taking it easy on the beast was because it was actually Eda. King looked around and in a panic, grabbed the bow. He was a demon, so it should work with him, right? He pulled the string back and pointed it at the wall above Eda and Luz. He closed his eyes and fired, hitting the wall with an arrow that lit up the ENTIRE hallway. The beast screeched, which let Luz go. She ran on her hands and feet to get over to King.
"I said to stay away." Luz said.
"I know how to fix this!" King said, holding up the elixir.
Luz took the bottle from King and read the label tied to it.
"An elixir a day keeps the curse away." Luz said before looking at King. "This is what Eda drinks? Curse fighting potions?"
"If we can get her to drink it, she'll turn back!" King said.
"Then let me." Luz said, putting the bottle between her teeth.
She got on all fours... well, three... and ran at Eda.
'Okay, I got one shot.' Luz thought.
She ran at Eda and jumped at her. She tackled the beast and pulled the cork out and poured the golden liquid into Eda's mouth. As the Elixir began to take effect, Eda began to return to normal. She opened her eyes and groaned.
"W-w-what happened? Wh... where am I?" Eda asked, her vision blurry.
"Right where you belong." Luz said before speaking demonically. "IN HELL!"
"... I don't see any liquor so I think you're right." Eda said, before sitting up, "What happened?"
"You became a furry, that's what happened." Luz said, "Also, you bit my foot off!"
Luz pointed to the bleeding leg that was missing its foot.
"I'm going to be spend the entire night regenerating that." Luz complained.
"Hmm, that why my mouth taste like iron mixed with hot sauce." Eda said, spiting Luz's blood from her mouth.
"What the home was that!?" Luz demanded.
"Yeah! You never told me you became some sort of monster when you don't drink you medicine!" King shouted at Eda.
"Yeah, well... I don't like talking about it." Eda said, "When I was young, I was cursed. I don't know how it happened or who did it. It's tough, but if you take the steps it's... manageable."
"Maybe... I can talk to my dad about this at some point." Luz said, "He has some knowledge on curses."
"And how do you expect to tell him while leaving out the fact that you're here?" Eda asked, "Besides, I'm fine. I've lived with this most my life, I can handle it. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to get some sleep, the curse takes a lot out of me."
Eda stood up and began walking to her room.
"Damn, that's a LOT of blood." She said, "Luz, does demon blood stain?"
"No, I can clean it." Luz said.
Suddenly, there was a voice.
"Hello? I'm on the floor! It's cold!" Hooty said.
"Ugh, that voice, that annoying voice!" King said.
"Come on, let's go help him up." Luz said.
As they went down the stairs, Luz looked at the hole made by the arrow King fired.
'Damn, what kind of demon is he?'
