A/N: I had so much trouble figuring out a theme for this chapter... though, my sister, -being a cat person and all- inspired me to write this, so; here you go! I wanted to incorporate Madame Red into the story, somehow but she is... dead and this was all I could think of.
Chapter 7
The Withered Red Rose
Lady Elizabeth walked amidst the red roses of the Phantomhive's rose garden, at night, and suddenly spotted a red kitten. It was cleaning itself and she was particularly curious on how it got it's ruby red fur color. I wonder if I should tell Sebastian about this lost cat? She thought, as she wandered over to the kitten. It just looks so lonely.
Her hand reached out to it, as she knelt down in front of the small animal, "Hello, Kitty Kitty..." A smile crossed her face and she giggled to herself, before the kitten ran away into the night. "Wait! Come back!"
She ran towards the kitten and chased it down the cobblestone walkway. It lead her far away from the Phantomhive Manor, towards the town's graveyard. It stopped in front of Madame Red's grave.
Elizabeth stared at the kitten dumbfounded, while her eyes wandered up to a man in a black tailcoat with black hair and ruby red eyes; "Oh! Sebastian I didn't notice you followed me here!" She curtsied to him politely; "I thank you for your concern, but I can assure you; I do not need your assistance here. There was a little kitten and-"
She looked around, but did not notice the cat, anywhere. Sebastian merely responded with a stern look and crossed arms; "As much as I value the lives of cats and their well-being; I do not trust the cat you were with, because of it's familiar atmosphere -that cat held none other than the spirit of whose grave we are standing on."
"Really!" She seemed surprised and soon looked past him to notice the name of Angelina Dalles on the gravestone. The memory of the funeral soon flashed through her head -it made her eyes narrow in a most depressing way; "Oh... right." She smoothed out her dress and looked off into the distance, towards the cat with the ruby red fur. When she did see the cat; she did wonder why she was so drawn to it, but she followed it anyways. "I suppose we should get going now, right Sebastian?"
Elizabeth's emerald green eyes sparkled under the stars with sincere happiness, as her pale skin glittered under the moonlight in a most delightful way. Sebastian studied her bright and innocent features, while her blond hair was fluttering with the wind; "Of course."
"Thank you, Sebastian!" Another smile danced across her lips and he lead her back to the Phantomhive manor.
The cat, however, decided to follow them from behind and a man with ruby red hair was chuckling to himself; "Oh Bassy! Why can't you realize my true feelings for you!"
The cat simply meowed at him in annoyed tone, and darted after the two, who began walking out of the local cemetery. Grell only watched the cat with disgust and responded; "I will not let you have him, Madame Red! I should have never awoken you to make you reincarnate as a cat; it was most unnecessary! You're lucky I regretted my actions and revived you, you stupid cat!"
He ran after the feline and they followed Sebastian and Lady Middleford, in secret. He was surprised the demon did not notice them on their walk after him. Usually Sebastian would notice such things as a cat, but he did not -he did not even notice his presence and he wondered if Sebastian was simply ignoring them, hoping they would go away. Such things did seem plausible, as Sebastian didn't trust either of them, even though he liked cats and Grell sincerely believed that Sebastian loved him. He does love me -deep inside his heart! He just does not realize it, yet! I do hope my precious Bassy will soon!
