The Masquerade Ball
It has been two days since Hope arrived in Mystic Falls 2010. It is now the day of the Masquerade ball March 24, 2010. Hope has found a place to stay and has prepared for the ball over the past two days. She has also been gathering information about what has been happening over the past two days, so she knows what's going on. She has been trying to keep her mind off of her family by preparing for the ball. Hope has also done research on spells dealing with time but has come up with nothing, probably because of the lack of resources she now has. Even looking into Triad and ways to destroy Malivore have become more difficult.
Hope has been lucky to have her wallet on her when she was transported, but her knowing she is in the past and can see her parents again has made her restless. She can't exactly shift into a wolf either since there isn't any privacy, and she might attack someone. What Hope truly wants to do is go and see her dad and mom once again and save them, but she also knows she has to find a way to defeat Malivore and go back. Hope is trying to do currently is figure out what exactly is happening and how she won't mess up the future. What could have been changed already just from her being there. Hope had been trying to blend in and not draw a lot of attention to her since she was "new" to town.
The time for the Masquerade ball soon came. Hope made her way out of the room she was staying in and headed to the Lockwood mansion. Before she could be seen by anyone she murmured, "Invisique." She began making her way inside the Lockwood mansion to see what exactly is happening tonight. She had made her way inside watching people she recognized as Caroline, Bonnie, and Matt. She knows that Caroline and Bonnie are supernatural, while Matt somehow always got involved. She didn't know the details as well as she would like too, since, she hadn't read the Stefan Salvatore's journals since she was a kid.
The ball had been in full swing and Hope was watching everything play out. Hope had seen Katherine who she had never met, she was pinning Caroline to a wall. Hope had followed them, her spell still active, she had stood some distance away since even though she was cloaked they still had supernatural hearing. Hope didn't know any of the exact details happening tonight since her family was mentioned in later pages. Hope didn't want to admit, but she was very curious as to what her family was like before she was born.
"What are Stefan and Damon up too?" Katherine asked. She had Caroline's head pinned to the wall.
"What do you mean?" Caroline asked, trying to play dumb.
"I've got Jeremy Gilbert luring me out to the lake." Katherine had said, still pinning Caroline. "What's going on?" She asked. Katherine's voice was very calm like she had expected them to plan something.
"I don't know, nothing." Caroline states.
"Don't lie to me Caroline," Katherine said. She had sounded more threatening and was now choking Caroline. "They're up to something. What is it?" She said, as her grip tightens slightly on Caroline's throat.
"I—" Caroline says, as Katherine grips even harder, hard enough to hear something pop. "Wait, no. Ok. They're trying to kill you." Caroline says, as Katherine releases her throat.
"I figured as much. Where's the moonstone?"
"Bonnie has it."
"And where is Bonnie right now?"
"I don't know." Caroline says, sounding more sure in her answer, then previously. This causes Katherine to grab her by the throat again. As soon as this happens Caroline panicked and says quickly, "Ok. She's upstairs. She's upstairs." After that was said Katherine and Caroline began to make their way upstairs with Hope following behind at a safe distance.
"Where is she?" Katherine asked. She looked annoyed as she glanced around the empty room.
"Heh. Heh." Caroline laughed. "I did it. Heh" she said with a bright smile on her face. "I really didn't think that I'd be able to fool you. But I did it." After Caroline said that; a look of realization crossed Katherine's face as she tried rushing at Caroline which only resulted in Katherine being stuck by an invisible barrier.
"What the—?" Katherine asked, looking at Caroline angrily.
Hope had just watched this play out, trying to piece everything together from her own knowledge of everything. She had decided it was a good time to leave before either of them started to leave. Hope had decided to go see if anything else was happening with any of the other people that get involved in Elena's supernatural troubles. She was curious though as to how Katherine died, because she seemed to be smart and quite manipulative. While Hope was walking she luckily avoided bumping into anyone, so her presence still was unknown to everyone there. She eventually found Matt and if she remembered correctly a person named Tyler. There was also a girl with them drinking alcohol.
Hope started thinking of what she heard about Tyler from others, 'If I remember correctly he gets turned into a hybrid after my dad shows up, this would mean he is a werewolf.' Hope didn't know much about Tyler. Her family had always been busy with other things, so they never mentioned him. 'Didn't he throw a football at Stefan when he was a new student?' Hope wondered to herself, trying to remember information from Stefan's journals. Hope went back to gathering information about what happened at the Masquerade.
"So what happened to Aimee?" The girl asked Tyler and Matt.
"I don't know. She disappeared." Matt replied before taking a drink from the bottle.
"She's probably drunk somewhere." Tyler said, looking at the girl.
"Like me." Matt said, as he poured the bottle of alcohol he had over Tyler's dad's desk.
"Whoa, don't do that." Tyler said. He noticed what Matt was doing and looked upset.
"What, man? It's a party." Matt said with a grin. "Right, dad?" He said, grabbing a photo of Tyler's parents. "You know, it looks like your dad... wants a drink." Matt said. Matt was pouring the bottle of alcohol he had on the Photo of Tyler's dad.
"Hey. That's not cool." Tyler said. He had stood up and walked over to Matt.
Hope was just watching this happens. She began to wonder, 'Was this what Matt was like when he was in high school?' She was curious if someone else planned this. She saw Katherine talking to Matt earlier, but she didn't know it was Katherine at that point and didn't care enough to listen to their conversation.
"What's wrong with you?" Tyler asked sounding upset.
"The guy was a dick." Matt said with a smile.
"Come on, you're being mean. His dad's dead." The girl said, looking over at Matt.
When the girl said that, Hope looked over at Tyler. She knew what it was like to lose a parent. Hope was even more suspicious of Matt after he said that. She didn't interact with Matt that often, but she had somewhat of an understanding for his character. Hearing what Matt said made her think Katherine told him to do something. Hope began piecing the events that have happened so far together. Katherine is looking for the moonstone, Kathrine was talking to Matt, Caroline lead Katherine to an ambush by the Salvatore brothers. Hope understood what was happening, especially with her knowing her family will be arriving soon. She had spent the past couple of days mentally preparing to see her family, even if she wasn't talking she knew it would be hard to see them. 'Katherine wants Tyler to trigger his curse, Katherine wants the moonstone, Katherine was manipulating everyone.' Hope started thinking. 'Katherine wants to make a deal for her freedom.' Hope came to that conclusion. Hope knew what Katherine was planning at this point. Katherine was gonna have Tyler trigger his curse.
"Gimme the picture." Tyler said, trying to grab the picture from Matt.
"Whoa!" Matt exclaims, making sure Tyler misses the photo. "Remember how your dad used to slap you around?" Matt asks.
"Are you kidding?" Tyler asks, trying to figure out what Matt was doing.
"Just having fun." Matt says, with a smile.
"Put the picture down, man." Tyler tells Matt. "Ok, you need to calm your drunk ass down right now!" He says. Tyler was Holding Matt's shoulders, but Matt just shoved his arms away in response.
"Do something about it."
"I'm not going to fight you." Tyler says, taking a step back. Hope notices the girl moving to behind the desk and into the corner of the room. Matt tackled Tyler to the ground and began punching him. "Get off me!" Tyler shouts, as he pushes Matt off of him. Both Matt and Tyler stand up and Tyler punches Matt. They both began fighting as Caroline enters the room.
"What is going on?!" Caroline asks, shouting at the boys, as she runs over to them. "Stop!" She shouts, as she accidentally uses too much strength and throws Matt to the ground. "Stop!" She exclaims, holding Matt back.
"I can't let me go. I have to finish." Matt states, trying to get past Caroline. When Matt says that Hopes thoughts were confirmed. Katherine had compelled Matt to trigger Tyler's curse.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Tyler asks, while being held back by Caroline as well.
"Let me go!" Matt shouts at Caroline. Once Caroline realizes there is something wrong with Matt, she pushes him back slightly and elbows him in the face, pushing him back in the floor. Caroline looks between Matt and Tyler. "Matt?" Caroline asks, growing worried after her actions to Matt. When he doesn't respond immediately she rushes to his side and crouches down to make sure he is okay. While they are all concerned with Matt; the girl from earlier grabs a knife from off the desk and begins walking towards Tyler from behind. "Matt?" Caroline asks again. Her voice was a lot softer and held worry while she checked to see if he was okay. She had noticed the bloody nose that was caused because of her. She held a look of worry as she looked over Matt's injuries. Hope was just watching this wondering what the girl that both Caroline and Tyler seemingly forgot about.
"How do you—" Tyler began to ask.
"Matt failed. If Matt fails, I can't." The girl says, walking over to Tyler with the knife. Caroline looks over at the girl after she says that.
"Tyler, look out!" Caroline shouts. Tyler quickly looks behind him, getting stabbed almost immediately after. He shoved the girl, and she hits her head on the table, breaking her neck. Tyler checks his wound, before realizing what he did. He realizes what he did and starts panicking.
Hope just watched this all happens. She knew she couldn't get involved, or she would definitely change future events. Hope was curious though. She was curious about one specific person. The person that successfully evaded her father for hundreds of years, but ended up dying by these people. 'Katherine is a formidable opponent. She is very cunning and is okay with feeling pain as long as she wins in the end. Against normal vampires Katherine would win.' Hope thought to herself, thinking back to the things she has heard about Katherine.
"No, no, no. Come on, wake up." Tyler says, crouching down next to the body, shaking her slightly. "Sarah! Sarah, open your eyes, wake up." Tyler says, continuing to shake Sarah in a panic. At this moment Hope learns of the girls name. "This can't happen." Tyler mutters to himself. Hope decides that she has observed the people she hadn't met yet for long enough. She figured out the relationships of several people and saw the way certain people acted in the past. "This can't happen. This can't be happening. Sarah! Sarah, get up! Sarah! Open your eyes!" Tyler shouts at Sarah, growing more panicked at her unresponsive. "Oh, god. This can't be happening." Tyler says, standing up and walking away from the body. Caroline walks over to the body and checks for a pulse. "Oh, god." Tyler realizes what this means and is still panicking. He begins groaning and holding his head in pain. He goes on his knees hitting the floor, while Caroline looks over trying to see if Tyler is alright, calling his name.
"Tyler, what's happening?" Caroline asks, taking a step back from him.
"Get away!"
"What's happening?" Caroline asks once again, eyes going wide when Tyler looks up showing different eyes than the ones he has when human. Hope begins quietly making her way out of the room still watching the situation, as she makes her way outside. Hope does feel bad for Tyler, she understands what it feels like to trigger your curse on accident; but she knew she couldn't interfere since Tyler has to be able to become a hybrid and for that to happen he needs his curse to be triggered. Hope goes out of the room and walks around a bit more, until she sees Bonnie walking. Bonnie seems as if she were looking for someone, so Hope follows behind Bonnie to the secluded area.
"You look for me?" A woman with a gold mask asks. She has straight, long, brown hair that fades into a light brown around her neck.
"Who are you?" Bonnie asks, taking a step closer to her.
"Lucy." The girl who was wearing the golden mask replied.
"What are you doing here?" Bonnie asks.
"I should have known I'd run into a Bennett." Lucy states.
"How do you know me?" Bonnie questions.
Lucy sighs in response before saying, "You figure it out. Look I have no Interest in fighting you."
"Then stop the spell you put on my friend." Bonnie quickly replies.
"Give Katherine the moonstone, and I will." Lucy replies with a small smile.
"Why are you helping Katherine? Don't you know what she is?"
"Tell your friends to hand over the moonstone and all will be groovy."
'People still say groovy?' Hope wondered.
"You're not leaving this room until you stop the spell." Bonnie said, blocking Lucy's path.
"Look, I don't wanna hurt you." Lucy says.
"I don't want hurt you." Bonnie replied, almost instantly.
"Look, I don't have a choice. The bitch saved my life, and now I owe her. I have to pay up." Lucy says, before trying to walk away. As Lucy tries to walk away Bonnie grabs her forearm to stop her. "You have the moonstone. I can sense it on you." Lucy says, directing her attention to Bonnie. Lucy grabs Bonnie's arms while saying, "You feel that? You can trust me. Give it to me. It's ok." Lucy says, convincing Bonnie to give it to her. Hope had seen what she wanted from the party, all that was left was Elena's kidnapping. So before she could watch anything happen between Bonnie and Lucy she went outside into the parking lot.
Hope saw Jeremy on her way out and decided to get a drop of blood from him, luckily she didn't get noticed from that since he was occupied with Elena. She decided she was going to do a locator spell in the morning after getting some sleep since it was late, and she didn't feel like following her tonight. Hope had already felt restless from her not being able to shift lately, the last time feeling like ages for her. She was growing more restless as time went on, with majority of her thoughts being about seeing them alive. She wants to fix everything so her parents could survive, but she knew that would be wrong and her family wouldn't want her to do that. They wouldn't want to put Hope through all of that. Yet, Hope still had the urge to see her family together, happy. The thoughts of what happened the last time she did that still remained in her head, preventing her from actively doing so.
In the Present
"Josie, I think something is wrong." Lizzie states, marching into her and Josie's shared room.
"What do you mean?" Josie asks, leaning up from her bed. Josie clearly didn't seem like she wanted to talk about Hope after recent events.
"What I mean is, I can't find Hope." Lizzie said, going to sit next to Josie. "Neither could Hobbit 2.0." Lizzie said, sarcastically. Josie looked down when that was said.
"Lizzie, he went to go find her saying his true feelings." Josie said. "And we are calling him Simulandon." She states, looking over at her twin.
"This is the opposite of girl power. This is the opposite of clear thinking. There are two Landons." Lizzie inquires, straying off the topic.
"What about Hope?" Josie asks, wanting to change topic. 'I suppose, I need to be more concerned as well. Simulandon couldn't find her, neither could Lizzie.' She thought, wondering where Hope could be.
"Well, I tried different types of locator spells, she disappeared off the globe, and I asked around as well. No one has seen Hope." Lizzie says, clearly annoyed by the disappearance of Hope. "I even went as far as having MG compel anyone who might've seen Hope leave outside of school!" Lizzie exclaims with annoyance pacing her voice.
"Why do you want to find her so badly?" Josie asks, confused as to when Lizzie and Hope got close together. If you listened closely to Josie's tone and knew of the events you could hear slight annoyance.
Lizzie was somewhat speechless at what her sister asked, not knowing the answer herself. Lizzie just knew that something was wrong with Hope. Perhaps, because of all the time she and Hope had spent together, they had formed a bond over the time everyone forgot Hope. Lizzie didn't know how to explain to Josie; she couldn't put it into words. All Lizzie knew was something felt wrong. "Don't you feel something is wrong?" Lizzie asked. Josie could tell what her sister was saying, since she felt that there was something wrong as well. Josie was just frustrated with recent events.
Josie sighs before saying, "I feel something is wrong too."
"Good, this means I'm not losing my mind and being paranoid." Lizzie mutters to herself.
"Have you asked dad about it yet?"
"Yeah, I went to go find him yesterday, but he didn't think anything was wrong." Lizzie says, sounding more frustrated as she continues on.
"We could go ask Mr.Vardemus." Josie suggests. "He is a witch, so he should know more spells."
"Ok, let's go." Lizzie says, standing up from her spot.
In Professor Vardemus's Office
"Hey, Mr.Vardemus." Josie greets.
"Oh, Josie, Lizzie, what do you need?" Professor Vardemus asks, watching them walk into the office.
"Hope's gone." Lizzie states, getting straight to the point. Lizzie walks over to the chair and takes a seat with Josie following behind.
"What do you mean, "she's gone"?" Professor Vardemus asks. 'How could she just be gone?' He wonders nervously.
"Well it's exactly as I said." Lizzie states, leaning back in the chair and crossing her arms. "I've tried many ways to find her, but none of them worked."
"I know a spell that may be able to locate her, but it requires black magic." Professor Vardemus says. Trying to plant the idea of that spell into the twins minds. "You could probably find the spell somewhere in the school, however I wouldn't recommend casting it with just the two of you." He says, before standing up and walking out of the office.
After making sure he was out of earshot Josie said, "Lizzie no, he said it will be too much black magic for just us."
"Then what are we supposed to do?" Lizzie asks her twin, worried about what might be happening to Hope. Not that she was truly willing to say that out loud.
"Do you think her aunt is still in town?" Josie asks Lizzie. "If she is, we could ask her."
"Maybe." Lizzie says, as her and Josie walk out of the office. As soon as they leave they almost immediately bump into Landon, Rafael, and Simulandon.
"We don't have time for you." Lizzie says, as she grabs Josie's hand and heads to find Freya.
"Wait, we should talk." Landon tells Josie.
"We have to find Freya, maybe later." Josie says, before walking off with Lizzie.
"Listen Josie, you and Hope are friends, your friendship shouldn't end over a thrift store hobbit." Lizzie says loud enough for only Josie to hear. "Now, let's go on our mission to see if Freya knows any spells to find Hope." Lizzie says, in a clear voice. Josie smiles at what her says.
