The Noble

When Hope woke up the sun had barely risen. As much as she wanted to sleep her restlessness was causing her issues. Once Hope woke up she went to her bag to grab the small bit of blood she got from Jeremy. She had gotten a map on her way back from the ball, so she could get right to casting the locator spell. She had gotten all the necessary requirements for it. The blood was of someone related, but she knew who the person she was targeting is. As she poured the blood on the map she began chanting the spell, "Sequitur." The blood quickly makes its way to the location Elena is at. After finding the location she began making her way out of the place she was staying at. Hope was debating whether she should spend money on a car or just shift at this point. She had ultimately decided she couldn't shift because she wouldn't have a change of clothes. She decided to get a ride majority of the way and run the rest.

After getting to the location

When Hope arrived, all the doors were shut and a lot of the windows were boarded. Inside the building Hope could hear Elena asking questions inside, while she looked for some form of an entrance. After a few minutes she was able to find a quiet entrance and sneak in. Hope had made sure she was cloaked and had cast a minor heartbeat spell to calm her down. As Hope entered she heard Elena ask, "Why am I here?"

In response a woman with short brown hair replied, "You keep asking these questions like I'm gonna answer them."

"Why won't you?" Elena asked.

'She is pretty calm for someone who is being held hostage.' Hope observes Elena, as she continues to ask questions regardless of the risk it puts her in.

"That's another one." The woman with short brown hair replies, as she puts a wooden board on a window to block out the sunlight.

"You got me." Elena states, walking down the stairs. "Ok? It's not like I can go anywhere. The least you can do is tell me what you want with me." She says, walking over to the lady with short brown hair, who continues to board up the windows.

"I personally want nothing. I'm just a delivery service." The woman with short brown hair says, sounding more annoyed with every question Elena continues to ask.

"Delivery to whom? Elijah?" Elena asks, with a confused expression on her face. At the mention of her uncles name she freezes. She hadn't ended on bad terms with Elijah but their relationship had deteriorated significantly before he died. The reason she had come here was because she had some idea that Elijah would be coming here from the things they learned at the boarding school. She wanted to see how she would react to seeing him after all this time, she did miss him as well. They were family after all.

"Ah heh. Two points to the eavesdropper." The woman with short brown hair says with a smile. She was now sorting things on a table.

"Who is he? Is he a vampire?" Elena asks.

"He's one of the vampires, The Originals." She replies, continuing to sort through the things on the table.

"What do you mean the Originals?"

"Again with the questions. Haven't the Salvatore's been teaching you your vampire history?" She asked. Hope had to agree with the kidnapper at this question. Elena really didn't know that much about Vampires.

"So, you know Stefan and Damon." Elena inquires.

"I know of them. A hundred years back, a friend of mine tried to set me up with Stefan." The woman said, smiling while looking inside a book. As Hope thought about this woman with Stefan she couldn't really see them being together. "She said he was one of the good ones. I'm more of a sucker for the bad boys though, but I digress."

"Who are the Originals?" Elena asks, taking a step closer to the woman.

"Trevor and I have been running for 500 years." She says, turning to look back at Elena.

'Who is Trevor?' Hope wonders. 'I hadn't heard of him.' She had begun to be curious as to what part these two play in what happens to her family.

"We're tired. We want it over. We're using you to negotiate ourselves out of an old mess." She says, as Hope realizes why these people kidnapped Elena.

"But why me?"

"Because you're a Petrova doppelgänger. You're the key to breaking the curse." The woman stated. Hope had remembered hearing something about that before, but had heard there was more to the story. Her dad didn't want to explain what happened to Hope since she was still young, so she heard bits and pieces from the kids at school.

"Curse? The Sun and the Moon Curse?" Elena asks.

"Ohh. You do know your history."

"What do you mean I'm the key? The moonstone is what breaks the curse."

"No. The Moonstone is what binds the curse. Sacrifice is what breaks it."

"Sacrifice?" Elena asks.

"The blood of the doppelgänger. You're the doppelgänger. Which means in order to break the curse, you're the one that has to die." She says, this shocks Elena.

'It makes sense if you look at all the events that have happened until this point. Katherine hasn't even killed Elena even though she has had all the opportunities too.' Hope thought to herself.

"Tell me more." Elena says.

"Captivity has made her pushy, eh?" What Hope assumes to be Trevor says. "What do you want to know, Delicious?"

"Who are you running from?" Elena asks Trevor.

"The Originals."

"Yeah, she said that. What does that mean?"

"The first family—" Trevor says, kicking a pile of books on the floor as he walks over to Elena. "The old world— Rose and I pissed 'em off." Trevor states. Learning that the woman with short brown hair names was Rose.

Hope stands in the same room as them, gathering more information about what her family was like before she was born. But Hope starts to think to herself, 'For people who have been running for 500 years, you would think they would have noticed me by now.'

"Mm-mmm." Rose hums in disagreement to that statement.

"Correction— I posed them off. Rose had my back. And for over half a millennium, they've wanted us dead." Trevor says, tossing a random boom at Elena's feet.

"What did you do?" Elena asks Trevor.

"He made the same mistake countless others did." Rose says, answering for Trevor who just turned around. "He trusted Katrina Petrova."

"Katherine."

"Mmm." Rose hums in agreement. "The one and only— the first Petrova doppelgänger." Rose says. Hope just wonders where they got that idea, she had learned that the doppelgängers went way before Katherine and Tania's time, with them being the first immortal beings on earth.

"I helped her escape her fate." Trevor says, holding an open book not bothering to actually read it. "And now I've— sorry, we've been marked ever since."

"Which is why we're not gonna make the same mistake again." Rose tells Trevor, who just sets down the book he was holding earlier on the table full of books and walking past Elena to Rose.

Hope decides to follow Elena instead of the two vampires because there is less of a risk getting caught with Elena. When Elena sits down she sees a note saying, "Stefan and Damon are coming for you. -B" Hope can see it pretty well because of her enhanced senses. This note causes Elena to have a look of relief on her face, as she crumples the letter and holds it to her chest.

After a while, Rose comes into the same room as Hope and Elena. Rose grabs her bag and brings it to a chair opposite Elena facing away from the windows. Trevor walks in saying, "He's here. This was a mistake." A look of panic crossed his face as he walks away from the entrance.

"No, I told you I would get us out of this. You have to trust me." Rose tells Trevor, attempting to calm him down.

"No! He wants me dead, Rose!" Trevor says, pacing around the room.

Hope had finally figured out why they hadn't noticed she was there. Their minds were clouded with worries about Elijah and the doppelgänger.

"He wants her more." Rose tell Trevor.

"I can't do this. You give her to him, he'll have Mercy on you, but I need to get out of here." Trevor tells Rose.

Rose goes up to Trevor and grabs the sides of his arms to keep him in place before asking, "Hey. What are we?"

"We're family." Trevor replies, calming down slightly. "Forever." Then everyone hears loud knocks on the door, drawing their attention away from the heartwarming moment Trevor and Rose shared.

"You're scared." Elena says, stating her observation.

Before Rose starts walking to the front door to answer, she tells Trevor, "Stay here with her and don't make a sound."

Hope had decided to stay in the area with Trevor and Elena, but she decided she would listen to conversation.

What Hope recognizes as Elijah's voice ask, "Rose-Marie. Is there somewhere we can talk?"

"Yes. In here" Rose replies. "You h-have to forgive the house."

"Oh, no. What's a little dirt?" Elijah replies. "I completely understand." As they began making their way to the first room on the right. "So tell me, what is it that gives you the courage to call me?" Elijah asks.

"I wanted my freedom. I'm tired of running." Rose explains. "You in a position to grant me that?" She questions him.

"I have complete authority to grant pardon to you and your little pet." Elijah responds. "What is his name these days? Trevor. If I do see fit." Elijah questions.

"Katrina Petrova?" Rose starts, trying to gauge his current interest in her.

"I'm listening."

"She didn't burn in the church in 1864."

"Continue." Elijah says, as he takes a seat.

"She survived."

"Where is she?"

"You don't seem surprised by this."

"Oh, when you called and invited me into this armpit of civilization, which is a mere 3 hours from the town we know as Mystic Falls, I surmised it had everything to do with Katrina." Elijah states. "Do you have her in your possession?" He asks Rose.

"No, but I have better. I have her doppelgänger."

"That's impossible. Her family line ended with her. I know that for a fact."

After hearing what her Uncle said Hope was confused of where they could've gotten the idea Elena and Katherine were related. Hope started to think, 'Elena isn't related to Katherine, it was just because of a spell that they are doppelgängers.'

"The facts are wrong." Rose says.

"Well, show her to me."

"Elijah, you're a man of honor. You're to be trusted, but I want to hear you say it again."

As Hope was listening into their conversation she could tell Trevor was too, as he grew more nervous by the second. But, after hearing Elijah's final line Trevor finally relaxes slightly.

"You have my word that I will pardon you." Elijah said. Hearing what her uncle said and the words he had chosen, she had figured that it wasn't a smart idea for Trevor to relax since he wasn't pardoned.

"Follow me." Rose says, leading Elijah to Elena.

Once Rose and Elijah enter the room, they can both see Elena pacing while still holding the crumpled paper from Bonnie. Elijah speeds over to Elena and smells her to see if she is truly human. 'Did he really just smell her neck?' Hope thinks to herself as she observes the scene playing out before her.

After Elijah finishes his check he says, "Human. It's impossible. Hello there." He takes a step closer to Elena before saying, "Well, we have a long journey ahead of us. We should be going." As Elijah says this, Hope freezes. She begins thinking if Elijah was planning to take Elena to see her father. She took a deep breath trying to calm her down since she isn't able to cast any spells, without getting caught. Apparently that slip up causes Elijah to notice her presence somewhere in the room, as begins to look around the room.

"Please, don't let him take me." Elena says, drawing Elijah's attention back to her temporarily.

"One last piece of business. Then we're done." Elijah says, deciding to deal with who he views as an unknown identity in the room later.

"I've waited so long for this day, Elijah. I'm truly very sorry." Trevor tells Elijah.

"Oh, no, your apology's not necessary." Elijah tells Trevor, walking over to him.

"Yes. Yes, it is. You trusted me with Katrina..." Trevor begins to say, as Elijah circles around him. After Rose heard what Trevor was saying, she knew that he would upset Elijah by saying this. "And I failed you."

"Oh, yes, you are the guilty one, and Rose aided you because she was loyal to you. That, I honor." Elijah says, before stopping in front of Trevor and asking, "Where was your loyalty?"

"I beg your forgiveness." Trevor pleads.

"So granted." Elijah says, causing Trevor to look up with a smile. But before anyone even had the chance to process what happened Elijah took off Trevor's head. This causes Rose to become infuriated with tears in her eyes. "Don't, Rose..." Elijah says, as Rose grabs onto the railing of the stairs for support as she cries. "Now that you are free. Come." Elijah says, holding out his hand to Elena.

"No, what about the moonstone?" Elena asks panicking as Elijah neared her.

"What do you know about the Moonstone?" Elijah asks.

"I know that you need it, and I know where it is." Elena says.

"Yes." Elijah responds.

"I can help you get it." Elena says.

"Tell me where it is."

"It doesn't work that way."

"Are you negotiating with me?" Elijah asks, looking amused by Elena's actions. He looks over at Rose.

Rose responds to his gaze at her by saying, "It's the first I've heard of it." Tears were noticeable in her eyes, and she looked as though she was about to cry.

"What I'd this vervain doing around your neck?" Elijah asks, noticing how is compulsion wasn't working. He ripped off the necklace and threw it towards the windows in the general direction to Rose. "Tell me where the moonstone is." Elijah says, compelling Elena.

"In the tomb underneath the church ruins."

"What is it doing there?"

"It's with Katherine."

"Interesting." He says, acting as if he entirely forgot about the other presence in the room. Hope had wanted to leave while he was compelling Elena, but she had a bad feeling about doing that. Now she stood still not wanting to be noticed by her uncle, who begins looking around the room, causing Elena to look confused. "It appears we have an unexpected guest in this room." Elijah says, causing both Elena and Hope to panic for different reasons. Hope had wanted to see her uncle, but it was only that, seeing her uncle. But, unknown to Hope when he called her out, her heart rate spiked just enough for him to know her location in the room.

Before Hope realized it, Elijah had her pinned against a wall by her neck. This had caused her concentration for the cloaking spell to break, from this interaction with her uncle. "Now, who might you be?" Elijah asks, observing Hope's features. He does take note that her eyes resemble his brothers, which is part of the reason why he hasn't killed her immediately. "Rose-Marie, why do you have a witch here?" Elijah turns his head to ask, Rose who also seems shocked by whom this stranger is. He begins applying pressure Hoping that would make the witch talk.

"My names Hope." She says, giving in cause she didn't want to fight her family.

"What are you doing here?" Elijah asks, looking back at Hope. He didn't know the reason she was there and it all seemed to suspicious for him.

"Nothing against you, so no need to worry." Hope says, hoping that will be enough reason for him to release his grip on her neck. It doesn't make him release his grip, but once his attention is drawn to the sound of glass shattering, he asked, "What is that?"

"I don't know." Rose replies.

"Who else is in this house?" He asks, turning to look at Rose. He released Hope and walked over to Elena.

"I don't know." Rose responds again with the same answer. This causes Elijah to grab Elena by her arm and walk off.

'I was not expecting to reunite like that.' Hope thinks to herself, rubbing her neck. She begins to try leave, knowing things would not end well for her if she stayed.

"Move!" Elijah shouts, going up the stairs. Everyone leaves Trevor's headless body as they leave. "Hope, you as well." He speaks loud enough, that a human would be able to hear what he said from the distance. Hope just sighs and follows thinking it would be better to not make her uncle mad. Hope, Rose, Elijah, and Elena enter a different room with a staircase. Elijah still has a tight grip on Elena's arm realizing that the people there are after her. Once everyone stops moving a vampire runs behind Elena and Elijah. After that Elijah pushes Elena to Rose. While the vampire speeds up the stairs. "Rose." Elijah says, in a threatening voice.

"I don't know who it is." Rose says, starting to panic. The vampire speeds between the groups, while Hope stays near the wall away from them, not knowing what will happen.

"Up here." A voice says. Elijah speeds half-way up the staircase.

"Down here." Another voice says, Hope recognizes that it is Damon's voice. She pieced together that Stefan and Damon were here and trying to get Elena. A pencil fires at Elijah, only going through his hand. He pulls it out and looks around the room. Both Rose and Elena are gone and Hope is just standing there wanting this to be over.

"Excuse me." Elijah says loud enough for the vampires to hear. "To whom it may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me." He says, as he begins walking over to a wooden coat stand. "You can't." He finishes off saying with a smile, as he does a dramatic hand gesture with his arms. "You hear that? I repeat—" He says, breaking off the end of the wooden coat stand. "You cannot beat me. So I want the girl on the count of 3, or heads will roll." Elijah says, walking around the room while tearing off the hangers and eventually the top part of the wooden coat stand. "Do we understand each other?" He asks.

"I'll come with you." Elena says, walking to the steps at the top of the staircase.

'Did their plan actually work?' Hope wonders to herself. She couldn't remember hearing about this kidnapping. Hope couldn't understand how they could have won. 'What is she holding?' Hope wondered, noticing Elena holding something.

"I'll come with you. Just, please don't hurt my friends. They just wanted to help me out." Elena says, trying to convince Elijah. After Elena finishes speaking he speeds up the stairs.

"What game are you playing with me?" Elijah asks, clearly not having fun with what was happening in this situation. Elena uses this time to throw the vervain bomb at Elijah, successfully throwing him off guard with these actions. He was screaming in pain as Elena ran off to the corner. Elijah healed quickly and began walking up the stairs towards Elena.

Hope had noticed something was wrong with everything, she was tempted to warn her uncle, but didn't want to ruin things. Her presence being there has already probably changed things. Stefan began going down the stairs at a human speed and shooting wooden bullets at Elijah who just takes them with ease. After noticing that the wooden bullets weren't effective Stefan tackled Elijah down the stairs. Elijah stood up first and began walking over to Stefan prepared to kill him, before Elijah could Damon walked over with the broken wooden coat stand that Elijah had dropped when the vervain bomb was thrown at him. Damon had successfully pierced Elijah's heart.

Hope knew this wouldn't kill Elijah but it still greatly upset her. A few items in the room shaking as she began calming herself down. Elena had been able to notice a few items nearby shaking, since she had very minimal involvement in the situation before them. Elena had glanced at Hope and observed how she was taking deep breath's to calm down. Elena had managed to piece together what was happening to the objects. Hope was losing control of her magic because of her emotions; seeing her uncle die in front of her caused her to relive some trauma, even though she knew he would live it affected her greatly. Everything has been happening too fast for Hope, and she hadn't had the time to process. Hope was becoming more involved even if she didn't want to admit it, this was a changing point.

After Elijah had "died" Damon looked over at Rose, beginning to walk over, but before Damon can say anything Elena says, "Just let her go." Elena sighs in relief, smiling as she begins heading down the stairs. Damon smiles seeing her come down the stairs in the same direction as him. That smile is short-lived as she goes to hug Stefan who is asks if she is hurt and ok. They hug each other, but what Stefan doesn't know is that Elena had mouthed to Damon, "thank you." Damon mouths back, "You're welcome." Before turning his attention to Hope.

"Now who are you?" He asks turning to Hope, who has calmed down from the death of her uncle.

"Her name is Hope. She's a witch." Elena says, stating her observations.

"What's a witch doing here?" Damon asks, acting very cautious of Hope.

"I was just curious." Hope states, successfully not showing her discomfort with the fact her uncle has a stake through his heart. "If that is all I should be going now, I shouldn't get involved."

"How are you getting involved?" Stefan asks, concerned for Elena's safety at the mention of a new witch.

"I have no intention of harming any of you, so I'll just be on my way." Hope says with an awkward smile, as she begins walking past Damon. Before she can leave Damon grabs her arm making sure she doesn't leave.

"Answer the question." Damon demands, annoyance lacing every word said.

"I'm not involved and don't want it be, so if you would." Hope tells Damon, silently urging him to just let her go. She was upset that her uncle died and the way they reunited even if she didn't know she was his niece upset her.

"Why didn't he kill you?" Damon asked, he was very suspicious of Hope's presence there. He didn't have much trust in witches after what Emily did, as well as Bonnie lying recently about undoing the spell for the Gilbert Device. Hope had enough and had started a pain infliction spell on Damon, causing him to let go of her and hold is head in pain. Stefan and Elena were both alarmed by Hope's sudden attack, so Stefan sped over and had knocked Hope unconscious. This was only possible because Hope had too much on her mind, from both her current present, future present, and the people she cares about, she wasn't able to properly focus or think recently.

After Hope woke up

Hope had woken up in the car on the way to drop Elena off at her house. Hope just accepted her fate of being kidnapped, since she already planned on not getting involved. She thought this would be a good idea to tell them to not bother her, but that would have to wait since they had tied her hands together and had put duck tape on her mouth. Damon was driving, Stefan was sitting in the back next to Hope, and Elena was sitting in the passenger seat. Hope had kicked Stefan's leg to get his attention. He had noticed her hint and decided to take the tape off her mouth judging she wouldn't be able to do anything unless she wanted to injure herself as well.

"Now that the tapes off, I will say this again I don't want to be involved in any of this." Hope says, gaining the attention of all the people present in the car. "If you could just let me out, I promise I won't bother you."

"And we totally believe that." Damon said sarcastically.

"What were you even doing there?" Elena asks Hope.

"I was just observing the people at the Masquerade ball and I happened to see you." Hope says nodding her head at Elena. "I saw you get kidnapped and wanted to figure out what was going to happen to you. It was just curiosity." Hope states choosing each word carefully, so she wouldn't risk anything about her being from the future to them.

"You saw her get kidnapped and just randomly decided to track her." Damon says emphasizing the word random. "How did you track her?" He asked.

"A locator spell." Hope states simply.

"How did you cast the locator spell? Bonnie had used Jeremy's blood, but you didn't have that." Elena asks Hope.

"A witch has her ways." Hope responds vaguely.

"So what you are saying is you are a powerful witch?" Stefan asks. Stefan had decided that if they could get Hope to help them against future threats Elena would be a lot safer. Even though they had Bonnie, Bonnie was new to this and Hope seemed more experienced.

"I am not getting involved." Hope says, noticing what Stefan was hinting at. 'I have already gotten involved and brought too much attention to myself.' Hope thought to herself, sighing, thinking about everything she has to do.

"What if we offered you something?" Elena offered.

"You are truly full of making negotiations today." Hope told Elena, causing the boys to be confused.

"You were there?" Elena asks Hope, surprised at the fact that neither Rose nor Trevor noticed she was there.

"You are helping us." Damon told Hope.

"No I'm not." Hope replied almost immediately. When she said that you could hear how she annoyed as well as the look she gave when Damon said that.

"How about this, you help us, or we snap your neck and leave you on the side of the road in a ditch." Damon says.

"Damon, no." Elena tells Damon, giving him a look that said, if you kill her you won't be forgiven.

"You guys will be fine without me, I have other stuff to do." Hope says causing the other people to be suspicious.

"Your in Mystic Falls what is there to do." Damon says, not believing a word Hope said.

"I am doing research, Mystic Falls has a lot of history you know." Hope states, trying to get Damon off her back. "After my research is done I plan on leaving."

"Well you are here, could you help us?" Stefan asked.

"I don't want to get involved." Hope said once again.

"What if we help you with your research and give you a place to stay?" Stefan offers. Damon just groans at this offer not wanting to do more than necessary. Hope was confused on how he knew that she didn't really have a place to stay but had decided to accept his offer.

'The sooner I get back to my time the better.' Hope thought, thinking of all the things he has to do.

In the Present

Lizzie and Josie were laying on one of the beds in their shared room. They spent the hours looking for Hopes aunt, Freya, but they couldn't find her in town. So, instead they had spent hours trying to find a spell to find Hope, but to no avail. They both realized something was wrong, first of all Hope left without saying a word to anyone, second Hope hasn't contacted anyone, family included, over the last couple days, third it was practically impossible to find her. It was early in the morning and the twins were both exhausted from their search.

"Have you been able to contact Freya?" Lizzie asks turning her head to face her twin. Josie sighs in response, worried about her friend. Things might've been worse lately because of their relationship with Landon. Josie still cared about Hope even though she still wanted to be with Landon. Josie and Lizzie had know Hope since they were children and had gotten close since the monsters started attacking. Josie knows that she shouldn't let Landon mess up her friendship with Hope, she also know that Landon loves Hope more than her and over the past couple days she had grown to accept that, but that only increased her worry since Hope is missing.

"I've tried calling her and contacting her through magic, but it isn't working." Josie says, sighing as she turns her head to face her twin as well. "And J don't think dad would allow us to take a trip to New Orleans either."

"Well, he is busy being the headmaster at the other high school." Lizzie says, suggesting they leave without telling him.

"You know, I don't think I left a great impression on her aunt." Josie says, recalling their interaction in New Orleans. "Maybe you should take the lead in asking her for help."

"Josie, you are the reason everyone remembers Hope to begin with, I think she can forgive you for what you did."

"I'll get the tickets," Josie tells Lizzie. "But we can't get caught, so we have to go when we don't have classes."
