Chapter 4:Terrible First Patrol
September 6th 2:34 pm Gotham academy
It was a brand new morning in the day of gotham like no other. With no crime going on in the morning right now. Except for the occasionally morning mugging or people trying to pedal you some shoddy items or materials for a quick buck.
But for one person right now excited for today was none other than delilah. Who was happy her friends accepted her news on gaining superpowers. But they were also going to help them as meadow was in her and artemis room right now squealing still
"It's still the weekend but this is so exciting right now. "Meadow cheered as mochi meowed a little
"I know right. I mean seriously i'm happy you guys are supporting me for this new goal in my life"deliah replied
Artemis was on her bed screwing in an arrow bolt into a metal pole. Then as she screwed it in nice and tight she quickly polished the head with a rag as she spoke up
"Listen nikos are you sure about this. I mean it's dangerous to start off in gotham of all places''artemis said
"I'm sure it'll be fine. Hey maybe i could run into batman even….he could take me under his wing"deliah said with a smile
As internally artemis was laughing at that as she thought about her feathered friend who fit more of that brooding bat more. But she was worried for her friend as she set her arrow into a case with the others crossing her arms under her bust
"Okay look i've only been here for two weeks but…still you sure this is a smart idea?"artemis said
"Why are you so worried? What you scared she'll blow up a block or building"meadow said as artemis eyed her with meadow wincing
"Please don't do that"meadow quickly added
As delilah flinched on the possibility of blowing up a building with her staring at her hands. She carries a great responsibility with these powers but she does find them very confusing actually since she isn't the best at science more like cheering people up or helping people
"I won't….i think but you think richie is done analyzing my blood with his dumb….whatever"deliah replied
"If you mean how my dumb roommate spent all night doing that then yes"sean said in the doorway startling them a little as meadow yelped a little
"Don't do that!"she shouted as he laughed as mochi meowed rubbing against his leg as he bent down petting her
"So let me guess the nerd is done with his little analyze of my blood"deliah asked
"Yep follow me"sean said
They all got up to follow him as they arrived at Sean and Richie's dorm. It was full of sporting posters on one side. With the bed being a complete mess with some boxers hanging off a lampshade right now. Along with a pair of boxing gloves on the side since the guy was into it. While the other side was the opposite. There were posters of star labs with one being kord industries. With an albert einstein picture their with a matching set of science equipment their on a nearby desk
But right now at that desk was richie still in some pajamas which were a pair of black sweatpants and a gray t-shirt with the periodic table on the back
With him looking well into his work as he glanced up smiling as he quickly zipped over shoving his friends inside the room right now. Then he locked the door creeping them out just a little right now
"Okay thats not creepy at all what you just did man"delaih said as he smiled
"I'm sorry but the research I've been doing on your blood is weird. I mean….i don't have that advance equipment but look through my microscope"he said as artemis decided to take a crack at it first
Once she took a peek through it her eyes lit up a little. As she saw blood cells on the slide but they had a similar haze that delilah conducted from her body as she looked up surprised
"Huh the same weird haze that surround you when you activate your little powers"artemis said as sean looked surprised himself
"She's right…so what does this have to do with her"he asked
"No clue"richie said which disappointed them all right now
"You seriously called us in her for nothing"meadow asked annoyed as he just wanted to show them that
"I don't have advanced equipment like star labs or any other scientific research centers. But well it's better than nothing…but….i did decide to make these last night"he said digging into his bag for a moment
As he dug around in his bag for a bit he pulled out a invention he made. That being a strange looking bracer that looked heavily modified. But on the top of it had a rectangular mold on it. With the most noticeable feature being a hook like device as meadow went ohhh picking it up gently
"Whats this do….ohhh a button"She said noticing a button about to press it but he stopped her pulling it back
"Gah! This is the prototype I made over the summer for that wrist mounted grappling hook. I copied it with the spare parts i had in my room"richie said to artemis surprise hearing that
"You made a grappling hook? Why did you make that"she asked as he blushed embarrassed
"I wanted to show it to Batman or star labs, maybe even mr. bryce for a new product he could sell. It took me months to make but….it could work for you since you wanna try to do a patrol tonight"richie said
This made his friend feel very honored right now that he made this for her. Carefully Delilah picked the device up with the gentle of hands right now.
Slowly she slipped it over her right forearm as she grabbed the straps clipping it on and wrapped it around her arm. Once she made sure everything was secured enough she examined it wondering how she activated it
"So how do i activate it"she asked excited
"Well simply you flex your forearm upwards to activate a switch–"he said this as she did it on instinct flexing her arm
Suddenly the hook flew forward with a loud whirring noise right now. As suddenly she followed the path of the hook as they all looked over where it landed. Right into a pillow kicking the stuffing out of it. As she flexed her hand back retracting the hook as it made her stumble slightly
Meadow jaw dropped going into a huge grin on her face right now
"This is so cool! What should we do for patrol tonight?"she asked
"I think this is a bad idea….i have an idea why don't we wait for tonight. Maybe we could run into i don't know batman….superman…green arrow maybe"artemis said with an awkward look as richie spat his tongue out
"We can find them easier if we bring them some bad guys. Lets get some sleep…i need some"richie said
"Agreed let's find some stuff to do till then '' Sean said as the four discussed some ideas. But quickly artemis snuck out of the room running back into her dorm room locking the door growling to herself
She paced around the room right now with a very worried look as she rubbed her face.
"They're going to get themselves killed if they go out tonight. If i keep trying to stop them they'll get suspicious of me….i gotta call kaldur and the others"she said
As the blonde rushed over to her bed slipping something out from the boxspring. That being a box as she opened it revealed a suit it seems. As she pulled out a mask as she slipped it on with her quickly getting on her other attire right now eyeing the window sighing.
After maybe twenty minutes she soon got geared up in her attire for the night. That being a uniform with a midriff baring costume highlighting her build. With her having a sleeveless top with a stylized arrow tip on the front, with a pair of fingerless gloves, pants and black knee pads with black combat boots. She wore a black utility belt and pouch strapped on her left leg. On her back was a quiver with an assortment of arrows.
Quickly artemis got to the ledge of the window pressing her ear
"Kaldar called the team in. have you and robin meet me at a dropoff location got it"artemis said as soon someone came in
"Understood we'll be there shortly tonight"kaldar said as she sighed off
Quickly notching an arrow back she fired it away straight into the side of a building. As artemis tugged on the arrow as it released a line that she grabbed. Then leaping off the edge she swung herself around to the other rooftop as she prepared herself for tonight little patrol to make sure her new roommate isn't going to harm herself or others
8:35pm gotham city
It was hours later in the night as deciding to start off with a good light was Delilah and her friends. Who got access to a rooftop thanks to an emergency ladder as she was in her makeshift superhero costume right now. As next to her was sean and richie right now without meadow as she was on a phone call with them
"Sorry i couldn't go but someone needed to cover you guys for nightly rounds tonight. Babs is helping me"meadow said
"And did we seriously have to include her on this"deliah asked as peeking onto the screen was barbara who rolled her eyes
"I wanted to help. Besides, I'm the only one with access to the police scanners. I'll make sure you avoid the most dangerous stuff. I rather not lose my friend to some would be super villain"barbara replied being filled in on the plan
Sean tied his shoes stretching out just a little"well it's better than nothing besides anything interesting on the yee old scanner right now"he asked
Barbara quickly looked at her laptop on her end. As she stared at the screen with it hooked up on several police scanners and chatter came through. While it did scooping the area around them was sean who noticed something
That being people secretly making their way into an abandoned warehouse right now with him eyeing it
"Hey guys i just saw two people heading into that abandoned warehouse by sixty third and blvd"he said as delilah and richie looked over as barbara overheard it
"Wait sixty third and blvd…that place is an abandoned warehouse that used to be home to the marconie family. An infamous gang and mob group but what would be going on at this time of night"barbara said as delilah thought of one thing
"Something bad…let's check it out and maybe we can see what ups"she said as they thought about it for a moment
"Deliah are you sure that smart it could spell trouble"meadow warned as richie spat his tongue out at that
"Come on, let's check it out. If it even that bad we could call the cops…maybe even meet batman tonight."richie said as sean and delilah where all for it as they went down the firescape to make their way over and investigate the little criminal activity right now
Meanwhile on a street corner not that far away right now was artemis pacing around with an impatient look right now on her face
"Dang it kaldur you should be here….heck wally should be here since he has stupid superspeed"she said as a childish laugh was heard behind her
"Well…well lookie here artemis! What are you doing in gotham!"a male voice called out startling her as she looked back seeing two familiar faces
The first being a boy in a red vest held close by three yellow rectangular fasteners on the front. With him sporting black leggings and boots with a pair of black gloves. All of which seemed made of some sort of protective body armor that seemed to provide great mobility. While on the left side of his chest a yellow stylish R symbol in a black circle. And around his waist he wore a yellow utility belt with pouches for his various equipment. He wore a cape over his shoulder that was black on the outside and pale yellow on the inside
But on his mask he wore a stylish black domino mask
But next to him was a boy who had light blonde hair cut at the bottom with deep brown skin and pale green eyes. He had high cheekbones and a lean build with him possessing black eel like tattoos that ran across his back along his arms. While he also had web handles and gills on his neck. He seemed close to her age.
While he was wearing a skin tight bodysuit that was red and blue stylish into a swimsuit that exposed his arms and feets. It had small dorsal fins on the back of the calves. With a symbol of an A on the buckle of his suit. With him having a water pack it seems with a pair of items resembling a pair of water bearers
"Gah! Dammit robin….i hate how he does that"artemis said
"It's how i roll….but you didn;t answer my question why are you in gotham"he questioned as she tapped her chin for a moment
"Well i umm well was visiting a friend of mine…that ummm program i got accepted back in star city. My uncle ollie told me to do it with my mom being here"artemis said quickly
"It would appear so. But you said something about your friend having powers"kaldur asked
Artemis nodded"she did. This morning I saw a blood test that showed her cells were being messed with by it. Along with that she thought it be a great idea to do a patrol tonight with two of her other friends"she mentioned worrying the two
"A dangerous superteen with new powers going out this quickly….brings back fond memories"robin replied
Kaldur cupped his chin"This is troubling but we need to make a move. I've already tasked superboy, miss martian and kid flash to arrive on the scene soon. Their on the bioship"he explained
"Then let's go, I placed a tracer on her outfit last night"Artemis said with haste as they sprinted off with her projecting a map of the world on her phone to follow it.
Meanwhile, the three teens quickly scaffold up some boxes. As he offered a hand to Richie as he grunted, helping him up, panting. With delilah easily climbing up to the next box as richie frowned
"I hate how you're so athletic at times"he growled
"Skip the late night snack cakes come on let's check this out"deliah said quietly
They all secretly made their way to the top of the rooftop. As they crouched to minimize the noise they made slowly they made their way over to the window overlooking down below. Looking down they saw what was down below which came to their immediate shock right now seeing what was going on down below
That being several people with a truck right now as it seemed to be in goons dress with winter attire. Along with having a penguin emblazoned on the sides. But in the center of them all was a face well known around the city of gotham
That being a short satire man in his late thirties standing at 4.10 in height. While he also seemed slightly pudgy for his appearance. He also wore a striped pair of black pants with him having a black vest over a white button up long sleeve shirt. With him having a black bow tie on. Along with hair reaching the side of his head as the top of his head was balding. As he sported a strange monologue with him having an umbrella in hand
"Holy shit…is that the penguin"richie said almost aloud as sean shushed him as richie covered his mouth
"Did you guys just say the penguin?"barbara whispered as delilah picked her phone up
"We did and….ummm who are they?"she asked looking at who this infamous criminal was meeting
That being a group of heavily armed people in tactical gear all in black uniforms. With them all carrying automatic weapons with them sporting katana on their back. But one of them stuck out right now.
That being a male who was wearing a purple spandex costume in design. His mask had shades of purple with back portions being a dark purple. And the front portion being regular purple. It also sported a spider emblem that takes up most of his forehead. With him having it intersect with a pair of golden eye pieces. The torso of the suit is dark purple along with his hands, knees, elbow, inner elbow and parts of his rest of his costume is purple with him having on two dull gray bracelets
"Okay whos the guy in the spandex"sean whispered
"Let me see him show me his face with your camera"barbara said as delilah zoomed in on his face. On her end she quickly did a quick background check on him going wide eyed on her end which meadow noticed
"What is it?"she asked as barbara stared at her screen
"Guys you have to alert the cops. That guy in the spandex is a highly skilled assassin who's been going around everywhere. He's a skilled killer with hundreds of peoples names under his belt"she warned shocking the three
"Are you kidding me? Our first patrol and it's a assassin"sean said in fear
"Okay we gotta go now"deliah said but richie eyed the scene before taking his camera out which the two noticed
"What are you doing?"deliah asked quietly
"Hey we gotta call the cops if they get away they need evidence"Richie whispered as they could agree on that as Delilah quickly got her phone out to take a picture. Down below in the room the man in spandex sighed
"Ozzy, come on, you've worked with us in the past. Just give us the rest of our goods and we'll be well on our way"the man sighed as oswald scoffed
"Not enough kids. Right now I need insurance that the bats won't tamper with my affair tonight. Your boss owes me for letting you rest at my club"ozwald said
"I aint a kid old man. Call me the black spider"black spider corrected as he stepped forward placing a hand on a crate
"Besides, you're the best gun runner in all of gotham. I'd like to take a good look at our toys"black spider said as Oswald smiled. Snapping his finger one of his goons stepped forward with a crowbar
Jamming the tool into the crack of the crate lifting it up with enough force. Then he threw the lid off revealing the goods being a case of m4 sopmod weapons. Black spider picked one up adjusting his grip on it as oswald explained
"Custom made army issued rifles. Had to buy these for my special friends. We got a list of parts you wanted and needed. Along with attachment you requested on your list"ozwald said as black spider chuckled placing it in the box for safe keeping
"It ain't my style but ...my boss will like this very much."black spider said as he looked up on instinct. As he did he saw the flash of a camera as he immediately he struck
Buckling back he grabbed the rifle aiming it at the ceiling. He fired off a stream of shots almost nailing Sean in the head. But the three teens looked down as the glass crashed underneath them as the three came down screaming. With Delilah grabbing Richie to shield him as the two landed into a pile of boxes. But sean landed on a crate hard grunting in pain as he rolled around on top of it in pain
Delilah panted as the dust cleared slightly with her seeing richie panting in fear looking at her in worry
"Deliah what are we gonna do"he asked
"I don't know i–"she was stopped by the primmering of a hammer as she looked up flinching as a pair of goons aimed some automatic weapons at her
Immediately the three were brought before the gangster right now as they were forced onto a kneeling position. As they stared at the penguin and black spider who laughed right now as he paced around
"Isn't this just precious a group of children…with a masked hero freak….man you guys are scraping the bottom of the barrel now"black spider taunted
Ozwald growled"you let some puny runts follow us….well it seems my boys need to get dirty."he said snapping his finger as they grabbed their shoulder scaring richie who began to visible shake
"Don't kill us please! We were just testing out my new invention is all! We weren't spying on you we swear!"he shouted but black spider laughed at that. As he stepped forward grabbing onto sean shoulder squeezing it a little as he winced in pain with the assassin laughing
"Kid you got a funny way of lying ... .besides I'd like to know who our mysterious guest is. You copying me kid"black spider asked as delilah growled at him
"I aint a kid jerk! Touch a hair on my friend's head and you're dead meat!"delaih shouted as her suit showed the blue haze slowly peeking out of it catching his interest. The man pinched the edge of her mask tearing it off revealing her face as a nearby goon scratched his head
"Heyya boss this girl over here looks familiar sort of"he commented as oswald went wide eyed with a grin coming across his face
"Well i recognize these little schmucks. This ginger here is a son of some famous boxer here in gotham had him brawl for me a few times. Then this one some resident genius. She's the step daughter of bryce industries CEO"ozwald said as delilah growled
"He's my dad! My real dad stepped out on me and my mom prick! Let me go and i'll teach you a lesson!"she shouted as black spider laughed grabbing her chin making her face him for a moment
"Hmmm you remind me of a colleague of mine…you're the spitting image of the guy except with tits. Wonder if your his"he said confusing her before suddenly the doors to warehouse blew open as a yellow blur came dashing into the room right now
Immediately in a swift motion the blur ran around the room snatching some of the goons' guns. As they sprinted around in a swift blur the blur quickly knocked a few of the thugs back. With a few of the strange dressed people in tactical gear around the room. Then as the blur reappeared they stood infront of a pile of weapons as they revealed themselves
That being a fifteen year old boy who had spiky red hair. As he had a slightly muscular build with him wearing yellow with red pants, red gloves, yellow shoes with a symbol of a red lighting bolt within a white circle on his chest. As shoulder pads and other protections on his costume as he clapped his hands together
"Well lookie what i found. A bunch of no good crooks named kid flash if you need a reminder."kid flash said as the three teens looked surprised to see an actual superhero here tonight.
Seems the first patrol ended up with our new supehero meeting the team. But we also saw the introduction of black spider and the penguin. He was never shown in the show but this is my design for him and hes based off the arkham verse one. Thanks for reading!
